No Sporting Advantage?
So Man City were at it.
You’ve read the story, you have your own view undoubtedly.
What immediately jumped out to me was the reporting that upon learning of the decision the other clubs immediately contacted their lawyers to see where exactly they stand with regards to trophies, league positions, and renumeration.
Ooft.
I keep looking back at yesteryear and recalling when we went through similar with an EBT and Side Letter scandal, I don’t remember other clubs considering suing a giant of the league, as City are now Rangers were then.
While the two cases are pretty similar the biggest gap is necessity. The EPL is big enough and successful enough to survive with no City, the SPL clearly weren’t having that.
We got a quick Nimmo no sporting advantage.
They got a 4 year enquiry with a panel of experts.
There’s the difference and another justification of the Mickey Mouse league label.
If you cast your mind back we were told at the time that UEFA had no intention of getting involved and admitted they had became a new club anyway. We were told they weren’t opening the door to other clubs that lost points to EBT Rangers in Europe to sue them. That door was shut.
That door just got blown off the hinges by the EPL and thus UEFA will be dragged into this. Celtic themselves had three CL points “stolen” by City in the Moussa Dembele game at Parkhead if those charges stick.
My own personal conspiracy theory is that not only do Man City go the way of Rangers and liquidate, but that their owners have much less money these days and much bigger problems than football and would gladly discard the once cherished plaything. Very similar to Rangers again.
What is not similar is that the words “social unrest” aren’t in English footballs dictionary unlike the SPL’s.
Where all this could benefit Celtic and a whole host of other clubs is that I do believe City not being in the EPL signals the bubble officially popping. The TV money won’t increase if one of the crown jewels is missing or gone for good. Another possible option is targetting City in the next two windows, but then we would just be bringing a player from uncertainty to more uncertainty nevermind a massive drop in standards across the board.
My final point,,,foreigners have waltzed in and completely screwed the City of Manchester’s two biggest football clubs.
Glasgow beware.

I have a date with Oasis at Celtic Park on the 25th May 2027…
Aye you do know that the Gallaghers claim they are Irish, albeit not being born on the Island. A bit like half of U2 that you commented on
WDS
Their parents are both Irish. Good enough for me. Being born in a stable doesn’t make you a horse.
Bada I’ve had nada notifications but live in hope HH 🙏

..Irish
To me, it says we are Irish; as we all know, it’s blood, family, and history, not rock; it always has been. NG trying to be as diplomatic as Ed Sherin – another f’n confused paddy, btw.

Irish citizens, allegedly. Just as someone briefly posted last night, KT is English?
WDS
I know full well who I quoted. Doesn’t make it any less true.
WDS
KT was born on Isle of Man. It’s a Crown Dependency. Not English.
WDS- I could be an” alleged “Irish citizen as my mum was from Donegal, really not sure what you’re trying to prove her mate…

A quote used to diminish his Irishness – really a most excellent quote. KT was born in a crown dependency but not Scotland! Not really English – ok

Not what I am trying to prove; rather, I am trying to understand what prompted your post questioning the supposed nationality of members of U2.
WDS- I think it was a comment from long time poster Mags on here,re U2 being Irish whatever…..it was a throwaway comment, with a throwaway reply….not trying to prove a point, just pointed out facts….it’s fine don’t sweat it…
I’m an old guy born in Scotland to Scottish born couple. All grandparents were Irish. Am I Irish or Scottish? I’ve always felt more Irish. People take me for Irish, because I normally speak softly.
Quiet tonight!! 🫣😆

Could I ask if you and your family were really Irish?
Where was your family born?
So only one Republic of Ireland player ( with the non Irish name had the power to stand up to his convictions) Maybe its because he is black. However, wearing pretend black arm bands tomorrow is better than giving the Germans the Zeig Heil which the Republic did between the wars.

May I ask what is your definition of being irish to ask such a question?

Minimum of 1 Irish parent. F’k the grandparent shite. Most of the gobshites that apply for a passport have never set foot in Ireland or have no intention of doing so no idea of who we are or what our Culture is. Of course, there are a few exceptions, but mostly it’s about travel and visa applications; they really couldn’t give a feck about Eire

what if you can recite the Soldiers song, prove that you had an uncle in the IRA and as a tourist in Tralee complain to the police about the local bigots hassling Hasidic Jews having a coffee? Does that qualify for a passport?
FWIW, there is absolutely nothing in this country that makes me proud to be Scottish

Bada,
Really? Nothing makes you proud to be Scottish? 🫣
Here’s my thoughts for what it’s worth:
Billy Connolly
Sean Connery
Kevin Bridges
Jock Stein
Alexander Graham Bell
John Logie Baird
Simple Minds
The Blue Nile
Caramel Wafers
Irn Bru
Glasgow Underground
Celtic Park
Alisdair Gray
Rikki Fulton
Still Game
Two Doors Down
and last but not least
………………
The Lisbon Lions
To name but a few, make me proud to be Scottish 🏴
Re the 67 League Cup Final,
We won 5-3 was at the game but, never seen a goal.
Why? Because Jinky was sitting in front of me in the Main Stand, he was suspended.
I was there with my Da but the fitba was second best as Jinky was right in front of me, my Hero.
He was drinking a container of coke with a straw.
The weird thing was that the Sunday Papers had to contact my Da to get permission to use the photo with me in it. Changed Days indeed.

Aye proud as F’k the bitches of the English
While Scotland only made up about 10% of the total population of the United Kingdom during the height of the British Empire, Scots were disproportionately overrepresented across its administrative, military, and economic sectors. Historically, historians refer to this heavy demographic and structural skew as Scotland “punching well above its weight” in imperial expansion.
“punching well above its weight imperialists “
My 1/4 Scots heritage feels nothing but shame – pride – aye?

Commiserations. I suppose you could always wear a decent pair of ear defenders.
A bit quiet in here today.Regarding Man City woes, for what it’s worth, I’m still getting a good chuckle on Instagram re-educating some English fans regarding R2ngers downfall.
Comments like “The FA should punish City the same way the SFA did with Rangers”, “ Send them down to the lowest division like what happened to Rangers”
I think it’s been an eye opener for some of them, judging by the lack of anyone contesting my responses .
I think the backlash down south is seriously gaining momentum , unlike 2012 when it was suppressed beyond belief.
I’ve never understood the idea of being ‘proud’ of something that you have no choice in, like the ethnic roots of your parents or the place you happen to be born.
You might be grateful for or happy with the advantage those things give you, but I don’t understand how you can claim to be proud of them.
Similarly you should not be required or expected to feel ashamed of them.
Ernie,
“Some might say” it’s a matter of taste.
Who’s your favourite bands/artists, Ernie? Not a big Oasis fan either, but I’d be interested to read who might be on your turntable right now.
