No Sporting Advantage?

So Man City were at it.
You’ve read the story, you have your own view undoubtedly.

What immediately jumped out to me was the reporting that upon learning of the decision the other clubs immediately contacted their lawyers to see where exactly they stand with regards to trophies, league positions, and renumeration.
Ooft.

I keep looking back at yesteryear and recalling when we went through similar with an EBT and Side Letter scandal, I don’t remember other clubs considering suing a giant of the league, as City are now Rangers were then.

While the two cases are pretty similar the biggest gap is necessity. The EPL is big enough and successful enough to survive with no City, the SPL clearly weren’t having that.
We got a quick Nimmo no sporting advantage.
They got a 4 year enquiry with a panel of experts.
There’s the difference and another justification of the Mickey Mouse league label.

If you cast your mind back we were told at the time that UEFA had no intention of getting involved and admitted they had became a new club anyway. We were told they weren’t opening the door to other clubs that lost points to EBT Rangers in Europe to sue them. That door was shut.
That door just got blown off the hinges by the EPL and thus UEFA will be dragged into this. Celtic themselves had three CL points “stolen” by City in the Moussa Dembele game at Parkhead if those charges stick.

My own personal conspiracy theory is that not only do Man City go the way of Rangers and liquidate, but that their owners have much less money these days and much bigger problems than football and would gladly discard the once cherished plaything. Very similar to Rangers again.

What is not similar is that the words “social unrest” aren’t in English footballs dictionary unlike the SPL’s.

Where all this could benefit Celtic and a whole host of other clubs is that I do believe City not being in the EPL signals the bubble officially popping. The TV money won’t increase if one of the crown jewels is missing or gone for good. Another possible option is targetting City in the next two windows, but then we would just be bringing a player from uncertainty to more uncertainty nevermind a massive drop in standards across the board.

My final point,,,foreigners have waltzed in and completely screwed the City of Manchester’s two biggest football clubs.
Glasgow beware.

Minimum of 1 Irish parent. F’k the grandparent shite. Most of the gobshites that apply for a passport have never set foot in Ireland or have no intention of doing so no idea of who we are or what our Culture is. Of course, there are a few exceptions, but mostly it’s about travel and visa applications; they really couldn’t give a feck about Eire2..

way down south

gobshite bit of self definition there me thinks-
You have no statistical base for saying folk are applying for an Irish passport have never set foot inn ireland,your self description works.
Irish culture has been an ongoing export of the diaspora for centuries,its dynamic and all encompassing,friendly and welcoming.it is deeply layered.it has never been defined it is just us getting on with it.
I would suggest to you if folk are applying for a Irish passport do gaf bout ireland,they want to better a country they have ties with.

My tastes are catholic, eclectic and wide ranging. I like originality. I don’t like derivative stuff. I don’t like hype. Oasis, U2, Simple Minds etc do not float my boat.

Of late I’ve been listening to the Grateful Dead more than anything else. But it could be a hundred others.

Funny enough I saw Richard Wilson in Glasgow once. It was about 10am on a Saturday and he was standing next to me on St Vincent St waiting to cross the road before the approaching Orange Walk appeared. I got the distinct impression that he was not a fan.

Aye proud as F’k the bitches of the English
While Scotland only made up about 10% of the total population of the United Kingdom during the height of the British Empire, Scots were disproportionately overrepresented across its administrative, military, and economic sectors. Historically, historians refer to this heavy demographic and structural skew as Scotland “punching well above its weight” in imperial expansion.
 “punching well above its weight imperialists “
My 1/4 Scots heritage feels nothing but shame – pride – aye?

At the height of the British Empire you do know the proportion of Irish soldiers was greater than the number of Scot.

So what say you about the historical punch of the irish within the British Empire? It was certainly more than the scots,its a meaningless point as irish or scots the majority were poverty fodder,when you say scots were overrepresented you mean thhe select band of privately educated officer class

Where they poor hungry bastards,like the Scots,cleared of their land,emigration,exile or a cup of soup to wash the green out of its mouth as they enlisted instead of dieing on coffin ships.
Go on give it tight to your ancestors who served,they were irishmen first and foremost who served a tyrant

The irish role in Empire needs looked at,and looked at respectfully,the same with the 250,000 or so who died in ww1.

In the City case, commentators are already discussing fines, points deductions, expulsion and the stripping of titles and trophies. That is not because anyone should prejudge the case before the written reasons and an appeals process are complete. It is because the credibility of a competition depends on the proposition that success earned under false financial pretences cannot simply be protected by delay, complexity or commercial importance. Scottish football had its opportunity to establish that proposition. It took the cowards approach

Scottish football will be watching with interest what the Premier League hits Manchester City with – as Neil Doncaster, the SPFL, and the Scottish FA sit squirming in their chairs over their failure to protect the sporting integrity of the Scottish game all to protect one of their commercial cash cows from proper sanctions.

September 27, 2026 2:23 pm

So, Andy Muirhead wants you to believe Neil Doncaster & Co will be sitting squirming in their chairs?

With all due respect Andy, don’t talk utter pish!

From Alan Morrison on the HuddleBoard…

“When I watch a match back, as well as capturing the data, I keep a commentary file of thoughts and incidents.
Can you guess which match the following is from?

  • “just sloppy all over giving the ball away then being easy to break against due to spacing and full backs bombing on – look a really sloppy disorganised side”;
  • “long pass easily takes out whole midfield – too large a gap”;
  • “start quite well then gradually disintegrate after the initial enthusiasm surge”;
  • “No settled system to work to and spacing all wrong”;
  • “(opposition have) 51 recoveries midway through half”;
  • “(central midfielder) cannot cover the centre on his own and in general it is not a mobile or defensive enough midfield”
  • “(opposition are) stunningly average but Celtic losing by all key metrics”;
  • “from losing it in their box and 1 pass exposes the whole team”;
  • “Utterly abysmal – surely time for change”.

Answer below…”

“You have no statistical base for saying folk are applying for an Irish passport have never set foot in ireland.”

Hi Nabbla:
I have no statistical basis either, but I know many are baling from the US. No information on whether they have set foot in Ireland. Some get the passport in case they have to move, some elect to jump ship right away, some even renounce US citizenship once they get an Irish passport ( or any other passport ). Nearly 5,000 renounced US citizenship in favour of other countries in 2025 alone, according to data compiled from IRS quarterly reports. Political climate has played an increasingly central role. ( Most who renounce have already expatriated ).

I have a mate applying for a Hungarian passport with the intention of moving. I don’t think he has been there. Life not so good in the States these days.
————————

Applications by U.S. citizens for Irish citizenship through ancestry reached a record 18,910 in 2025—a 63% increase from the previous year—following Donald Trump’s return to office.
( Irish Times ).

A growing number of Americans are looking to get second passports after Trump’s re-election, according to a London-based migration consultancy.
Henley & Partners reports an almost 400 per cent rise in enquiries during election week, with “constant” phone calls the day after Trump won. A popular choice is Ireland.
An Irish passport gives access to an English-speaking country and allows for freedom of movement across the EU and the UK.
Ireland offers citizenship to those born to Irish parents or grandparents – good news for the 9 per cent of Americans who claim Irish heritage.
For many, the first step towards Irish citizenship is getting on the Foreign Birth Register, a database of descendants born to Irish people abroad.
The number of such registrations in the US increased by half in 2024 compared to 2023, while the number of Irish passport applications by Americans rose by 10 per cent. ( Elaine McCallig, Tortoise Media ).

HI iniq4.
Thank you for your considered reply.
i think it is a great thing that the Irish diaspora can claim their birthright- to be an Irish citizen and passport holder.If it were me goin back to grandfather he was born in 1840s Donegal.
I think its important to note periods of Genocide 1840-52 and the eviction era,up til land league was formed.The last evictions were at Derryveagh in 1861,continual harassment over land.
The reason I suggest this state of penury under London was a reason to go to your land,they did,they stabilised as a growing culture within America,the one thing they did not do was forget.That memory was harnessed and it was the stories passed down from those in coffin ships augment by those who died in ditches,emaciated,mouth died green with eating grass.it was that generation that funded the struggle,so to me there will always be a welcome in ireland.As james Connolly said and it is as relevant today with the brit-touted pishtriot movement,let no man throw the stone,it will hit his brother.

Good luck with your application and all the folk applying,their part in Irish history may be attempted to ne gobshited out bty some,but it is never forgotten by those with respect.

=================
Especially if it can be proved that LNS Commission was misled by Duff and Phelps withholding evidence to protect Rangers of charges of dishonesty so they could sell them.

The Man City situation puts the focus back on integrity and if it can be shown LNS was not provided by D&P with what SPL requested that, had it been, would have changed the TORS, then at the very least the findings in the LNS Commission must be set aside.

And with it his incorrect ruling on sporting advantage, possible only because SDM’s testimony to the FTT states that the reason to use ebts was to get sporting advantage. That totally conflicts with LNS ruling. Andy covers SDM input but the evidence existed pre CW trial.

I can understand BAD’s cynicism because it has been one huge coverup, but as I mentioned before – if you sit on the riverbank long enough the body of your enemy will float by and to add more philosophy ” don’t push the river, it flows all by itself.

It must be 10 years since I wrote that article I referred MIT to iro LNS waiting for the tide to turn. Man City might be that tide.
