Blame Game
Morning, all.
It has been a truly awful two weeks for Celtic, and that’s despite the fact that we were without football at all for one of them. We saw our dreams of a cherished treble disappear at Ibrox. You’ll all remember those heady years when we took such things for granted, winning four in succession. We saw our European aspirations take a damn good thrashing as Ferencvaros came to town and hammered us. And finally, the icing on the cake, a meek surrender at home in the league to the foe malign, a performance which yielded a miserable one shot on target.
Last week, while the game took itself to international pastures, saw the release of the latest accounts. Turnover fell off a cliff last season, and our record profits of £45m were converted to a £6m loss.
Strangely, nobody stood up and took the blame for any of these events. Yeah sure, there was lip service paid to having to step up to the plate, having to accept responsibility. Yet we still saw the same end result, a rudderless leaderless headlong rush into making the same mistakes time and again. One player stood up and told us what we knew to be true, that there is a lack of proper coaching and direction for the players from our management team.
He got crucified for it on most of the sites. Seems us Celtic supporters don’t like being told, even if by one of our own players, what most of us are saying amongst friends in the stands, the pub, or even on sites like this.
Even worse was to come from our CEO and interim Chairman when they provided their statements in the accounts. While admitting to a tough year which saw us with three separate managers, four if we include Martin O’Neill twice, it was all’s well that ends well and all right on the night as far as they were concerned. Every decision made was justified by the final outcome-which meant that they had proof that every decision made was the right one.
No mention of the precipitous drop in income, other than to say that they safeguard against such by having sufficient cash reserves. Barely a mention of the reasons for that drop, including the loss of Champions League riches caused by their ineptitude last summer. Nothing at all about the drop in merchandising income, brought about by a widespread boycott of the tat which routinely hits our inboxes almost monthly. And certainly no mention of why our cash reserves dropped by £11m when our post tax deficit was only around a third of that.
Meanwhile, some of our supporters still hold blindly to the notion that all of our ills can be laid at the door of our former manager, whose only crime was to speak publicly about not getting the players he required at all, never mind at the time he wanted them. After all, how could they be signed when the CEO was hamstrung by an outdated signing and wages policy? I await with interest the target of the latest blame game which will be along shortly. I confidently expect the common denominators who have been in place throughout to be sheltered from the loud howls of disapproval by their unofficial fan club.
Meanwhile, this club is in danger of slipping into irrelevance, a doom loop of its own making. And we will be told it is all the fault of those nasty fans with banners depicting the real culprits with a red line through their image.
I think we on here are smart enough to know different. And to lay the blame where it belongs.

Well, that sounds like a plan. Any ideas on how we go about getting the answers to these questions? The club has banned all Celtic sites, so that’s a no. The CEO is the least communicative in history, so that’s a no. And the AGM only exists to insult the fans and shareholders, no questions allowed, so that’s a no anaw.
Maybe we should ask DD at The Dunhill Cup?

Re McCoist:
Cos the prick is on a major radio station and occasionally on TV spouting shite.
And, as was pointed out, he had the cheek to mention FRAUD in the Man City situation.
I’m of the never let the bassa’s forget they died!

Much of the material to support that view is on the web.
Did I link to this explanation why the legal entity that was Rangers ceased to exist caused the imposition of Article 12 of FFP?
Will anyone bother reading it? It gives a very solid and authoritative platform to refute any same club arguments by that mob .

Well I put that question to be answered at last AGM by the Board but it never got asked due to the abrupt ending.
Undeterred I put the question to a Celtic official pointing out what was supposed to be a statement of purpose in The AGM papers was not fit for purpose. He agreed it required attention and it would be addressed.
I wait to see what has been said with baited breath.
I cannot find what I actually sent to Celtic via the Compushare facility last year but this is a draft of a Resolution for this year that pretty much repeats what I said on Purpose last year..
Draft Resolution for 2026 AGM
The Purpose of Glasgow Celtic PLC.
The mounting evidence over the years is that Shareholders, Season Ticket Holders and others who support Celtic in various forms, is that Celtic PLC have gone beyond sustainability requirements and the perceived purpose of Celtic PLC is to use the loyalty of their support to make a profit.
We remind you that Celtic was founded with a clear ethos and purpose rooted in community, charity, and identity. To ensure alignment between this founding purpose, the responsibilities of the Board, and the expectations of shareholders and supporters, We would be grateful if you could address the following:
1. Purpose – What does the Board consider to be the fundamental Purpose of Celtic Football Club?
2. Vision – What is the Vision of the Board for Celtic’s future?
3. Strategy – What Strategy has the Board adopted to achieve this Purpose and Vision?
4. Policies – What Policies and processes are in place to support and deliver the Strategy?
5. Indicators – What Indicators or measures does the Board use to assess whether the Purpose, Vision, Strategy, and Policies are being achieved in practice?
We would respectfully ask that the Board’s responses provide clarity, substance, and measurable indicators, so that shareholders can understand and see how governance decisions align with the ethos and long-term direction of Celtic Football Club as a PLC.
Individual shareholder reading this can send it to Celtic via Compushare or if 100 shareholders were to register with SC the foregoing could be sent as a resolution after agreement here.
Here is how we tried in 2024 on SC with the Compuserve e mail address.
https://sentinelcelts.com/2024/03/22/resolution-on-refereeing-standards/
Trouble was we did not have records of 100 shareholders to act on behalf of like the CST, so if any CST members are looking in they can ask the CST to take over as they had a Res on Strategy that never got debated either.

The process the SPL/SFA used to arrive at the LNS conclusions of no sporting advantage and no question of dishonesty can be shown to be invalid due to the deliberate withholding of vital information by Duff and Phelps requested by the SPL.
The problem is finding someone in msm to look at it although due to Man City some journos in England might ask questions. Even then the SPL are unlikely to ask for a review based on missing information but they might decide to simply set LNS aside as unreliable, which means it never existed.

The Board (ie Mr Desmond and some sock puppets) bank on the season books being renewed. Stop that and the grip is broken.

I think the only way to make that happen is to expose the lengths gone to in order to save the Scottish Football industry from the folly of Rangers behaviour, but even then they will still cough up.

I’m used to that totally ignorant judgement from some, which is why I wonder why I persist in talking sense in the absurd belief that some reading might make a different judgement.
However if you want to set out what you consider to be pish I’m happy to learn.
I know I hear and see things differently than most on here, but, as a lawyer, when I listened to the McCoist video there, I was gobsmacked by some of what he said, which nwas close to, if not an admission of guilt. I probably shouldn’t have been surprised, as he doesnt strike me as the sharpest knife in the drawer, and I suspect that he has a history of getting away with stuff, so perhaps feel even subconsciously that he can speak as there will be no consequences.
The part that got me was:
“I dont know. I have to check . But it looks like its fraud. ..,.I dont want to be turning up with 97 charges against me, allegedly.”
That is the sort of statement that lawyers ndream of getting from an opposing party. He is clearly connecting the Man City charges (double contract, I suspect) to his own situation. that is a pretty damning admission of guilt. If I was his lawyer, I would be having f**** kittens if I heard a client of mine say that!
MIT
the bottom line is that the judiciary aren’t in the least bit interested in justice never mind Scottish justice. McCoist can stumble around with his ignorant hun platitudes ad infintum and no one ultimately gives a fuck. Same will happen with Man City. You’ll see.

Don’t DD and his puppets want the prestige of remaining in the top tier of favourable Adidas clubs ?
If we don’t buy the merch won’t Adidas complain or at least ask why there are such low sales and how do we reverse this situation? ie pressurize them into sorting it out.
If we buy nothing then things will collapse, no strips , no tat, no Xmas prezzies, no match day items will put severe pressure on those concerns as no one is buying them, so why bother produce or provide that service anymore?
I refuse to give money to the people who banned the Green Brigade and disgustingly slaughtered BR for their own mess or have thrown away hundreds of millions of CL money yet remain unaccountable. Not to mention their condescending arrogance towards other Celtic fans. I can’t abide pompous twats who idiotically think they are better than others.Nothing but wholesale change at CP will make me give them a single penny again.
I loved giving my money to Celtic and I await the day I can do it once more but I don’t give money to backstabbers or those with no ambition for a European giant and no respect for some of the greatest fans in the world.

Los Angeles FC’s form has been patchy this season and they’ve now fired head coach Marc Dos Santos. The man touted to replace him is Wilfried Nancy — but sources close to Nancy say he’s keen to remain in Europe, despite his disastrous spell in charge of Scottish champions Celtic.
Visiting Glasgow this weekend and popped into the Celtic shop , and to be sure there are many lovely items that I would happily have purchased.
However, I resisted, I could not in good faith given them £200 of my money, not under the present circumstances.
I’ll go online and visit our Chinese friends for their wares. Anybody got a trusted seller?

I don’t tend to take any notice of players once they have left us but was reading a bit about Kyogo last night.
Since leaving CP he has scored 3 goals. 😳
He’s actually had as many transfers as he’s scored goals.

Hi Auldheid,
i honestly and truthfully applaud you for all the work you have done in the pursuit of Honesty concerning all things Celtic. But the positioning and attitude of the celtic board in 2026 (position the PLC as a business opportunity to sell merchandise without trying to make the football team as good as they can be) and only trying to stay one mini step ahead of the 2nd best supported team without grasping opportunities to be more successful in europe means that supportersare completely alienated from the PLC. There is no chance that the board will change tactics, or business plans so the only way to get Celtic the team back on track is a complete clearout of ALL of the board and then get a concrete 5 year plan on moving forward. Have any 5 year plans ever been mooted by the board? Rhetorical question.Sadly, the only way to combat PLC board is to withold money as nothing changes until the board are gone.I realise many supporters are very reluctant to do this and i fully sympathise but realistically that is the only option to force change.
To be world class in everything we do. do you see any correlation to between the present board thinking and what is below?
AI says
Boardroom Ambition: Executives use the phrase to emphasize a self-financing model, aiming for top-tier operational and developmental standards matching elite European levels.
Fan & Media Skepticism: Critics and supporters often point out a gap between this rhetoric and on-field European competitiveness or academy output, arguing that true “world-class” status is rarely reflected outside of executive pay.
General Definition: In broader high-performance and sports contexts, achieving a world-class level requires mastering the daily basics, marginal gains, absolute focus, and consistency over a long period rather than relying on catchphrases
BAD
re Kyogo
I am and always have been a firm believer in horses for courses. Ange got the best out of the wee man by playing to his strengths. As is so often the case, we are a unique team in that we ( well up until recently) dominate every game domestically and are constantly attacking. That suits your kyogos Jota’s Paddy Roberts Matt O’rileys etc of this world. Take them out of that game model and they struggle. It is the same at the back. Take a top backs to the wall premier league defender like Shane Duffy and ask him to defend on the halfway line and he looks like a donkey.
And if you sign a player like hogh who scores a barrow load ghosting in at the back post and getting on the end of intricate play, don’t ask him to be a hold up player and fire balls at him surrounded by 3 defenders and not a green shirt in site. And if you have a speed merchant like Duran who can be deadly centrally and breaking against the run of play don’t stick him out wide and tell him to beat a man and get a cross in.
If we had a defined way of playing and an efficient football dept including scouting and analytics we could sign the right players for our system rather than ringing round agents on deadline day. But all that would need a modern hierarchy with a modern football vision. And that’s why it falls at the first hurdle

I don’t doubt the sincerity, but I suspect the board are happy enough that someone out there is offering up schemes to keep folk busy and let off seem, whilst not proving any real threat to the status quo.

For far too long, we’ve been signing players without a thought to how they can fit into the structure. It’s why we’ve had so many projects, and why so many have gone sour. But Duran as a winger is a peach. Deadly, as you point out, in his preferred role, but useless and worse than a man short where we play him.

The pitiful response where nowhere close to a meagre 100 shareholders could be found to support the Draft Resolution sums up the problem of effective supporter engagement in attempting to change the direction of travel.
That and steadfast financial support via season ticket take up.
The Board might think that the support are easily manipulated/ satisfied and therefore offer no existential threat to the status quo … I couldn’t possibly comment.

An independent Commission has found Manchester City FC guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-season period, and the majority of charges in relation to its failure to co-operate with the League’s investigation.
The independent Commission found that between Seasons 2009/10 and 2017/18:
– Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ contracts (which misrepresented the true agreement between the parties) with a number of its commercial partners, as well as relying on ‘sham’ agreements with others, to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs
– The club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators
– Manchester City was significantly in breach of both the Premier League’s and UEFA’s spending limits
– During the Premier League’s investigation, Manchester City committed multiple breaches of its duties of co-operation and utmost good faith towards the League (three of the four alleged breaches were upheld)
The independent Commission found that Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ commercial deals with a number of its sponsors during the period, which were part of a disguised funding scheme, whereby those companies were only required to pay a portion of the relevant sponsorship fees. The remainder was funded by Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd (ADUG), which owned the club. As part of the scheme, further ‘sham’ arrangements, funded by ADUG, were entered into to enable the club to record lower operating expenses than it actually incurred, as well as a ‘sham’ circular arrangement with Fordham, an entity that purchased the club’s players’ image rights, that was funded by ADUG.
The purpose of these schemes was found to have been to artificially inflate the club’s revenues, and reduce its costs, by more than £900 million during the affected period, to appear to comply with financial rules. The consequence of this, as the Commission found, was that the club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators. The Commission concluded that ‘by its conduct the club clearly intended to circumvent the PL Rules‘.
As a result, Manchester City failed to accurately report its income and expenditure for the purposes of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules and UEFA’s Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Rules. The Commission found that, had all of the relevant agreements been reported accurately in the club’s accounts, it would have been in breach of both the League’s and UEFA’s spending limits by a very substantial amount.
In addition, during the course of the four-year investigation conducted by the Premier League, the club committed multiple breaches of its duties of co-operation and utmost good faith towards the League. The Commission concluded that the club had ‘made concerted efforts to stop and frustrate the PL investigation’.
Richard Masters, Chief Executive of the Premier League, said: “The core decision establishes the facts of what happened at Manchester City during this period. It details how the club systematically broke Premier League Rules for nearly a decade.
“It also vindicates the Premier League’s decision to pursue this case against Manchester City. While the process to date has been both long and difficult, the League has remained determined that the facts be established independently.
“It is a key responsibility of the Premier League to ensure that the Rules, approved by the clubs themselves, are upheld to protect the integrity of the competition. It is paramount that the League remains competitive and fair for all clubs and for the fans. We take that role extremely seriously.
“This disciplinary case, and this decision, are the most significant in Premier League history. There are elements of the case that remain to be decided, including, importantly, what sanction must follow for these breaches. Now we have the Commission’s decision, we are committed to moving swiftly through the remainder of the process, to provide certainty for the League, our clubs and fans.”
The independent Commission’s findings are set out in a Core Decision, of which a redacted version has been published (click here). The Commission’s award comprises both the Core Decision and a large number of additional appendices, which the League is committed to publishing as soon as it is able.
The League is able to publish the Core Decision because the Commission has ruled (and an Appeal Board has confirmed) that the Commission’s decision is a ‘final award’.
Now that the charges have been proved, the issue of sanction will be addressed separately in a further hearing with the independent Commission. In accordance with Premier League rules, that hearing will remain private and confidential until such a time as publication of the outcome is permitted.
The club has the right to appeal the independent Commission’s findings and has until Friday 2 October to exercise that right.
The Premier League Board’s intention is that the full process (including any appeals and publication of relevant decisions) is concluded as soon as possible.
Notes to EditorsPremier League investigation, independent Commission process:
– The Premier League began its investigation into Manchester City in December 2018, and a complaint was subsequently issued under Section W of the League’s rules in February 2023
– The independent Commission held a 42-day hearing, which concluded in December 2024
– In explaining the length of time it had taken to provide the parties with a decision, the independent Commission wrote: ‘It has taken us much longer than we would have wished, and much longer than we had anticipated would be the case when the hearing concluded, to produce our Decision. That is regrettable.
‘However, we were fortunate to have available to us throughout the period in which our Decision has been being prepared not only all of the documents that were used at the hearing but also
(a) verbatim transcripts of the evidence given by each witness and expert at the hearing. Those transcripts ran to approximately 7,000 pages, and (b) extremely detailed written submissions from the parties (that they had supplemented orally over four days at the end of the hearing) on the evidence and each of the numerous issues that we were tasked with determining in the proceedings.’
Premier League investigations, independent Commissions, and Appeal Boards
– The Premier League Board has the power to investigate any suspected or alleged breach of Premier League Rules
– Where, following the conclusion of an investigation or otherwise, the Board believes that there is a suspicion or allegation of a Rule breach, it has a number of options available to it. One of these options is to issue a written complaint and refer the matter to a Commission
– The League has established an independent Judicial Panel, comprising a number of legal, financial and other experts
– Members of the Judicial Panel are appointed by its independent Chair. It is also the Chair of the Judicial Panel who selects members of the Judicial Panel to sit on Commissions, which are independent of the Premier League. The Chair of the Judicial Panel at the time of the Complaint in these proceedings was Murray Rosen KC. The current Chair of the Judicial Panel is Sir Gary Hickinbottom
– All proceedings convened under Section W of the Rules are confidential and heard in private
– The Commission appointed under Section W of the Rules has a broad discretion as to the sanctions it wishes to apply, the non-exhaustive list set out in rules includes fines, points deductions and other sporting sanctions
– Whenever a Commission makes what is described as a ‘final award’ in the rules, such decisions are published on the Premier League website
– A party to proceedings that wishes to challenge a decision of the Commission may do so under Section W of the Premier League Rules, by filing an appeal to be heard before an Appeal Board
– Appeal Boards are also appointed by the Chair of the Judicial Panel and must have three members, one of whom should have held judicial office, and would sit as the chair of the Appeal Board
– An Appeal Board has wide discretion in respect of the appeal, and may allow it, dismiss it, or make any other order that it thinks fit (including varying the order of Commission)
For further information on the disciplinary process, please see Section W of the Premier League Handbook.
Confidentiality
– The disciplinary proceedings between the Premier League and the club have been confidential, as provided for in the League’s Rules
– Premier League Rules provide for the publication of the outcomes of final awards of Commissions
– It has recently been determined that certain aspects about the findings of the Commission in these proceedings may be published under the League’s Rules
– At this stage, the Premier League is only permitted to publish a redacted version of the summary of the Commission’s ‘core findings’
– The process remains ongoing and any further information related to the proceedings that has not been published by the Premier League remains confidential. When the Premier League is able to do so under the League’s Rules – unless legally prevented from doing so – the Premier League will publish the full Decision and any further updates. In the meantime, all aspects of the ongoing process will be confidential

The lawyers are gonna make a fortune out of it.
Either way EPL has a straightforward choice to make.
1-They could enforce the existing rules
2- Copy Scottish Football and come to decision’s that make nonsense of existing rules.
The EPL has an awareness that if the Arabs walk the financial pyramid of league will be on shaky foundations and other may reevaluate investment.
There is also the threat that City may moot a resurrection of super league. the FIFA and UEFA MAY ALLOW THE GREEDY an opening.
The number of clubs demanding compensation for being cheated makes an exit more likely.,
The game was losing its soul to money.
So hopefully a level playing field comes out of the chaos?
