United Against City
Morning, all.
Some of you may remember that about ten days ago I said I was looking forward to an international break for probably the first time ever. The reason for that was obvious-it meant three weeks that I didn’t have to watch Celtic stinking the place out every time they went onto the pitch, watching while we were giving up fourteen or forty shots on goal against even the most ordinary of opponents. In short, we had a three week break from tearing our hair out while hoping that our management team might somehow conjure up a winning formation.
Even though we have a two point lead at the top of the table, this isn’t a great time to be a Celtic supporter. There are too many problems at the club, and too many employees who simply shouldn’t be there at all. That includes everyone, from the backroom staff, medical staff, playing staff and all the way up to the boardroom. But we know all this, and we’ve discussed it loud and long on here. I’ll leave it alone for the moment, because it turns out that our problems are only little ones compared to those that some clubs have. While I could mention the €2.6 m debt currently strangling Barcelona, Manchester City is the obvious one.
City are the most successful club in England over the last fifteen years, and have doubled their trophy count during that time. Countless league titles, cups and even the Champions League have been paraded at the Etihad, previously the stadium built for the Manchester Commonwealth Games. Not content with getting the stadium handed to them on a platter, they then sold the naming rights to an airline. £400m, an amazing windfall (twice!) for a club which had spent so much of the previous three decades in the lower divisions. And might do so again soon.
Having been bought as a sportswashing vehicle for Abu Dhabi in 2008, the emirate wasted no time in splashing the cash, but rules were soon introduced to ensure that spending was related to footballing income. Owners could no longer spend their own money to buy success, it had to have been earned through acceptable channels. And City have been found guilty of inflating that income by almost £1bn between 2011 and 2018 alone.
Even worse for the club, the EPL released this bombshell during a three week international break, when the sports hacks are crying out for anything topical to write about. And they’ve seized upon it with gusto! Not for them the tears for a club torn apart through no fault of its own, nor are there cries for titles to be retained as they were won on the pitch. Nobody is even shouting that City are too big, too important, to suffer the punishment that their crimes demand. No sirree, every article since the news broke has been about the disgrace that this affair has wrought, and that the club must be punished to the full extent of the regulations.
Some of you will see parallels with the downfall of R1ngers, though I doubt any of us will see any parallel in the punishment arrived at by the footballing authorities. Lest we forget, that punishment amounted to a £250,000 fine levied on a club which was already in administration, and which was therefore unlikely to be paid. No sporting advantage was found to have been achieved as the club systematically defrauded the taxman for over a decade. No sporting penalty was actually enforced upon a club which had cheated its way to seven league titles and various cups. Let that sink in.
Not only were the Scottish football authorities prepared to turn a blind eye, so too were the media and the legal profession. Murray retained his knighthood, Lloyds actually allowed him to cherrypick the viable subsidiaries from his bankrupt firm-£1bn of PUBLIC money, remember-nobody went to jail, nobody has ever repaid HMRC, and the SMSM are still telling us today that R2ngers are the same club, and should never have been relegated in the first place. Complete denial of the process which saw them go bust (and therefore unable to honour fixtures anyway) and a new club formed, which was allowed to take their place, against regulations, at the bottom of the SPFL structure.
They do things differently in England. Hell, even David Conn was wheeled out of exile to comment. Everyone wants blood. There is broad agreement that titles and trophies won should be relinquished in the record books. The Asterisk Years at last! There is a growing discussion around points deductions of up to EIGHTY, which would definitely see them relegated. There is also a gathering storm in the EFL, which might refuse to admit an outfit which has been found guilty of such levels of cheating-why should they be the receptacle for ne’erdowells and bounders?
The procedure which found Man City guilty was no kangaroo court. Legal costs are estimated to be over £100m on each side, and the arguments made prior to the judgement have lasted over four years already. City have until tomorrow to lodge an appeal, and I have no doubt that they will do so, that they will fight this one through to the bitter end. That bitter end will, apparently, be decided in the UK, as EPL rules preclude appealing to CAS. The good news for City fans and the club is that the owners have indicated a will to fight, the bad news is that the opposing side aren’t going to walk away either. The cataclysmic news for the club which has dominated English football for the last fifteen years is that they have managed to do something which most of us have long thought impossible.
They have united the English press, which is unheard of even in time of war. They have got their teeth into a target, a villain of foreign origin no less. They can expect no let up on that front, indeed they will be like a dog with a bone. And even if the legal teams manage to spin out the appeal for as long as the four years that the original hearing took, we will see a death by a thousand cuts during that time.
The world’s superstars will no longer be queueing up to join what was once football’s most lucrative gravy train. Those that are there already will have lawyers poring over the small print of their contracts and looking for loopholes. Haaland will be ruing signing that nine year contract-though he might be lucky, and find that the appeals process stretches beyond that! In short, a win for either side may be a pyrrhic victory, attrition having already stripped the club bare.
Meantime, you can hear Minty himself discussing events on a podcast with Souness, which definitely falls under You Couldnt Make It Up. The two people most responsible for putting the huns in the shitter, firstly by spending money they didn’t have, and finally by being careless with their correspondence on the Boumsong transfer. I’m thinking of crowdfunding a statue for them!!!!

Alex Wickom is talking shite.
the scale of real estate investments to Manchester is huge and commited.
The difference in the city over 10 years is on an incredible level,
Investment trusts dont pull out of in progress construction projects.
Estimates of £30 bn spent already.
Ernie
another interesting issue that may arise concerns the diplomatic status of Man City chairman, Almubarak, and the diplomatic immunity from criminal and most civil liability that typically flows from that status.
there will be arguments about whether certain acts for City were diplomatic in nature or not, such that immunity should or should not apply.
not just one can of worms, but several, have been opened with this.
and unlike Scotland, too big to be swept under the rug so easily.

BAD is known for making his position plain on some matters, and has explained in the clearest of terms why he no longer attends matches nor buys merchandise, etc. I’ve no doubt at all that he wishes more fans would do the same, but he doesn’t try to impose his will nor demand that others follow suit, nor does he belittle fans who do attend.
Others certainly do, but even they still form a minority on here. Most of us want an end to the DD hegemony, but it doesn’t mean we are not Celtic supporters. We support the team, not the board.
St Tams,
I would love to post my thoughts on the current shit show that our custodians loosely call a football club. Unfortunately I feel strongly that I won’t post as long as Mags McGill continues on here to make disgusting remarks about Celtic supporters as a collective and as individuals. I still lurk because I like to see what others are thinking. Suffice to say my thoughts align a lot with your thinking. Maybe I’ll see you at concert hall on 14 June 😂😂
MIT,
This isn’t personal. The EPL commission is only interested and considering one of it’s members Manchester City Football Club. The club doesn’t have any immunity whatsoever. It submits itself to EPL rulings and statutes as an active member.
Nabbla,
No matter how many times you say I give attendees a hard time for their decision to keep going, it still will never make you any more correct, simply because it’s just untrue.
For all the years I’ve been posting on here (Basically since inception) I guarantee you won’t find a single poster who will back up your claim I’m in anyway against those that want to see Celtic.
Try and accept others have a different outlook to you, and you may find the world less confrontational as you go on you merry way.
Enjoy your next Tic game …genuinely.

Very saddened to hear this she’s brilliant
so,
implied threat of stopping investments if City were severly punished by THE FOOTBALL AUTHORITY suggests what ?
They bought the club so they could get front and centre for Real Estate Investments trusts (and the returns is brings)
or
While coming to the Etihad they just thought we like this town so much lets spruce it up some and if we win some trophies along the way then that is fine as well.
jJust follow the money. and the timeline.
Bobby,
Appreciated.
If Nabbla knew me he’d know I absolutely want him to enjoy Celtic, it’s what the team is there for. I would just like to see both sides give each other the respect their decision should come with.
It’d be daft to try and turn this into a competition, as that is not enabling us to get to what’s really important – the future direction of our great team.

I was also disappointed to read that she’s written her last Guardian column. Brilliant, as you say, and a way of spearing a target that made you laugh at them. The Guardian has lost a lot of quality columnists over the last couple of years, and attempts to replace them have been weak.
Scored some feckin belters.

BAD.He disnae go for reasons x,y,or z,his choice, his bag,his party, you know he is the lighter of the non attenders on here
“Nor does he belittle people”
– gettin called “mr desmond” for going to see Celtic?
What is that about?- thats a non attending narrative
Let me be clear BMCUW,those who dont go to see Celtic for whatever reasons so be it,but dont be thinking that narrative extends or influences anywhere,it doesnt,
But read back i am gettin it for going to see Celtic,on your Celtic blog.how the flook does that work out?
HH
Nabbla,
You’re now just making stuff up. No one called YOU “Mr Desmond” but whether you like it or dont, Desmond needs you to attend, otherwise he’d have been forced to face the fact him stating his love for the huns split the fanbase, not that he appears to care.
Hence my claim that Mr Desmond would send his love ..No biggy, just a statement of fact. I’ll gladly take that back if you accept it’s crass of you to keep trying to belittle others for not attending ..which you have history of doing.
If you would rather have the confrontational stuff, you are barking up the wrong tree here, I’m really not interested in getting involved in a multi-day pissing contest

‘Alex Wickom is talking shite.’
He’s not offering that as his opinion. He’s reporting what he has been told that UAE officials are threatening.
The treat refers to future, not current, investments.
In any case I’m not sure the sums you mention are that large for the UAE.
Moreover sportswashing is design to enhance the reputation of the UAE, not make a profit. If all this has failed in that aim I can understand why they would want to spit the dummy.
The coverage MacIntyre gets on Sky is a disgrace, Fitzparticks maw got more ,and I’m not joking

BAD
I have no problem with others having a differing point of view, thats evident in my posts,I think its the other way round,ie making out I am some sort of shill for attending a Celtic game, that seems to be a problem
Thanks BaD,maybe see you up at CP sometime, who knows, and another thing just because I attend do not think I am in ignorance of Murray 87to2012 I am not.
BAD you are implyin that I am a mrDesmond something or another because I attend?and you’ll take it back if I stop belittling non attenders( majority on here).
Catch yourself on BAD.
i will keep attendin, fighting the good battle within my club,i am o and most probably get made out a rat, shill or lackey here,on a Celtic blog, thats fine too lolz, wrong tho it is.
Listen BAD,I am sorry you dont go,I have real difficulty in your final choice, nothing and no one would influence my relationship with Celtic is to pristine,it has been that way in my family since the dear Brother launched the good ship Celtic afloat of the alter.i am simply goin to see my team.
You be good:-) and hopefully ye can rip the piss oot o me in west brewery sometimes,me usual haunt after a title win.
Take care&HH.
Peace now

“Will Andy Burnham talk soon about the very fabric of Manchester society.”
If Man City are relegated Noel and Liam will go out on a bender and wreck their local pub. Liam will then tweet that their tour is off and that in turn will lead to the type of “social unrest” that Stewart Regan warned us about in 2012.
BAD
Yeah noticed that. Its the same when Bob is playing in America its an English player love in no matter how bad they are playing.
Nabbla,
I certainly don’t think you’re a rat, and would certainly never call you one, and am cool with leaving it at that as I have no interest in spending days doing this.
But ..
You can’t make the mistake of accusing folk who don’t attend of “”Cowardice ” because they won’t forget Celtic completely and just walk away.
It is not your place to judge what a Celtic supporter has to be, you are not the judge of what qualifies as a Celtic supporter, everyone is just doing their thing
That, along with calling this site “A non-attending echo chamber” suggests you think this little site has become a bit of a joke to you
Try and be more understanding and you may find your experience of this site will improve. Failing that, Celtic cyberspace is massive and there are many more places that may suit you more.
Take it easy.
Hearing Jota played 45 mins today and laid on 2 goals for Lucas Clearey.
Here’s hoping 😀
Not the greatest angle, but for those who have not seen it, Parrott’s superb goal against Austria.

More Football Leaks dropping in 6 minutes!
Tony Bloom worried?
No leaks, he’s on the run and seeking funding.

This is like a cryptic crossword.
What’s the next clue?
😄
MAHE
That it? Not seeing anything about this elsewhere.
Northern Ireland 2-0 up away to Ukraine, Liverpool’s Morrison excelling.

And not a shitty square hopeful ball in sight after taking 10 mins to get ball upfield.
Ange signed Kyogo because he fitted our system.
That others negated his strengths and potency was not Kyogo’s fault.
Fan
to be fair to BR and MON, Celtic havent really had a system since AP left. So it must be hard to sign the right players for a system, when you dont really have one…🤷🏻♂️
Donnarumma having a worldie for Italy. 4 fantastic saves so far.
Olise with screamer from free kick touched to him puts France 1-0 up.
What a belter! Even Donnarumma hardly moved.
Cumnock 1 Auchinleck 0.
Evergreen Lewandowski with 2 goals as Poland lead 10 man Romania 4-0.
MIT
Agreed !
Norn Ireland 3-0 up away to Ukraine, and top of Group with 7 points ahead of Hungary, Ukraine and Georgia.
Huns play Kilmarnock at the Bigotdome the day before we play Motherwell. We will not be top of the league at kickoff and very possibly not at full time. If we lose, we will be back in Nancy territory.
France 1 Italy 1 Bastoni.
Saw a brilliant post on Instagram where Pep is Manuel on Fawlty Towers telling Basil he knows nothing.
unfortunately my computer skills are non existent so maybe tech savvy guy here can find and post.
Nae buts, its a truth, its cowardice,I have family member like Ernie, believe you me what i post here,to you or Ernie is light,
I only judge when I am boxed, tagged or given grief for following my team. That happens here.
BAD now you are flailing, implying i am anti-this site?Thats just rubbish mate,so whit that i mentioned once its a non attending echo chamber, that was said at a time when the blog had Ernie-doesn’t go,Mags doesnt go,on it,its factually correct at that point in time.its not my thinking of the blog BAD,to many good posters in Saltires, mit, rebus even Ernie the odd time to mention a few, let’s knock that swipe on head please
BAD i will decide who, what and when i return a post to thanks,I am not out of turn(our hosts are here for that) and at all times have been respectful to you,and will be in future.i go to see Celtic that just means I go to see Celtic, thats my identity, not an individual,a boardmember,a player, but the 11 on the park.Celtic.and I still have a view on new club also.my support of Celtic is not positioned on another team.

First team into Scottish Cup second round with a 2-0 win vs Talbot.
France down to 10. Upamecano red carded.

Where do you stand on the complete shitshow
MoN has led us into this season?
Incoherent nonsense on the pitch, aided and abetted by his hapless coaching team.
MoN is unwittingly or otherwise complicit in this season’s potential equivalent of the 10 in a row disaster scenario.
Off topic but I’ve just logged on to Apple Music to find that Elvis Costello has just dropped a 49th anniversary (could he not have waited 12 months?) of My Aim Is True featuring 104 tracks.
And moments later I discovered that Paul Weller has just dropped a live album containing 31 tracks from his recent tour.
It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas!
😄
Well done to the ACSOM guys for getting Brendan booked for Royal Concert Hall, sold out in under an hour
