With crisis comes opportunity
Its been the best International break of recent times. Plenty to discuss and none of them laughing matters.
Last Sunday morning Derek would have been the waking up laughing and once he heard Rangers were in the news he would have believed praise was coming. His feel-good factor got blasted out of the blue (pardon the pun) and now all the current players are properly aware of the past I hope. It was hard to turn anywhere but their name was getting dragged into a comparison chart with England’s team in blue.
The Parkhead bigwigs may or may not have been laughing at them being unexpectedly dragged back into the uncomfortable past, but the smiles would have ceased upon hearing Brendan is visiting the supporters for an evening of chit-chat. Ahem.
The attempt to shift the narrative was as transparent as it was pathetic. They dragged a young ex-players race into the mix, then our well known links to the City Group was deemed sufficient evidence of guilt by association.
Nothing will happen up north, we all know that, but it’s delicious knowing some must squirm when quotes like “tainted titles” and “we all know” are given much airwave time.
The debate between them and the “we lived the moment” crowd is very interesting and revealing.
Its also frustrating because each camp is correct in their view, if anything it could be said those that celebrated the winning got more out of the tainted years as yes they own those memories.
But football is not just about the memory. If we whallop Motherwell 5-0 you would probably say that was money well spent and a good memory. Football should never been squeezed soo much that the memories of a single game or games surpass the highs and lows of the entire journey from start to finish. Aguero was a fleeting moment, the Tommy title was the trip of a lifetime.
It’s good to see the sport truly and properly kickstarted into action over club ownership and rule changes will be proposed by the supposed 15 who would vote City out per the rags. Introspection and restructure is called for at club level, better guardrails and more grassroots help from Gov.
It didn’t happen in Scotland, but there’s a world in which this City malarkey really helps tie the rest together and form closer bonds.
It’s too early to say if this is the best thing that ever happened to them, but there’s a chance. With crisis comes opportunity.

Seeing Celtic is a complete shitshow is it?
I disagree.still a lot better than internationals.
Drop your seat number and I will pop round and discuss it with you!
Did you and i not have previous run in over MoN? His age,his health etc and i said i stand by him, would like him to retire on health grounds but he is definitely his own man.
What is MoN complicit in? -in whatever way? Do tell? Iirc my main point to you then
was your use of language, you would never in a million years directly ask him with such disrespect imo.He is a Celtic legend.

You know fine well that the comment you selectively harvest described on field chaos.
“The same coaching team, the same formation, tactics and personnel deployed with the inevitable head scratching substitutions – what possibly can go wrong?
Hoping for some sort of miracle transformation but expecting the grinding tedium of a hopeless, failed system.” A shitshow. I stand by that opinion.
Off field the obvious, dysfunctional, failed operation can also be fairly described as a shitshow.
You feel differently about it – good for you.
Celtic legend he undoubtedly is but MoN is yesterday’s man – I referred to him as an Capn Mainwaring/ Corporal Jones mash up I think – and said he should retire gracefully, he’s become a caricature, hence the description – sadly we’d be left with the gormless Private Pike & extras.
If I had a seat number I wouldn’t give it to you for fear of being stalked, but would happily chat over an overpriced pie and Bovril at half time at one of the many quality food outlets our club provides around the crumbling concrete concourse.

Interesting article.
Nothing in it that wasn’t already known, but it is a clear exposition of a lot of stuff that people were either unaware of, or have chosen to ignore. In particular the share hoovering operation. I just can’t see what that is supposed to achieve. I’d file it in the ‘pointless busy work/something must be done, this is something, then that is what we must do’ bin. At least it will have plenty of company in there.
Two points though. Although it mentions the possibility of a dilution/tactical withdrawal by Mr Desmond it mostly assumes that that won’t happen and that any sale will require a purchaser to be able to buy the whole caboodle. Maybe, but maybe not.
And there’s no suggestion that Mr Desmond is driven by anything other than financial gain. I’m not sure that’s entirely accurate. I suspect part of his motivation in acquiring Celtic was to boost the esteem in which he is held among his peers (the Coolmore mafia and other such big swinging dicks). If his association with the Club is doing the opposite and reducing his esteem he might decide it’s time to get out of Dodge.(There’s an obvious parallel here with the sportswashing at Man Cty)
What can fans do to bring that about? Maybe it’s time to rip off the sticking plaster and do the unthinkable.
The Shares My Father Bore.
Like many Celtic shareholders I bought my 1750 shares along with my two sons when Fergus offered them to the Celtic support on two separate occasions. They hang, framed on my bedroom wall, along with my other Celtic memorabilia, I had a choice, to buy more Celtic shares or more Celtic memorabilia, I chose the latter. I made the right choice, getting much more enjoyment out of Celtic shirts of various players especially the 67 players shirts and medals’. Celtic FCs history is both long and with varied success, it just happened by chance that I was born 78 rpm years ago which included the most successful period in Celtic’s history, thanks Da’.
In the years since we have watched our greatest rivals allow their club to die, pictures of wreaths, hearses and wringing of hands, poor auld Face Painter. Although I went to a few AGMs I quickly realised that my shares meant SFA in the bigger picture. I determined to obtain the full list of Celtic shareholders and so I did.
There in October 2021 was 28,335 Celtic shareholders in Celtic plc. The full list contained the names and addresses of all the Celtic shareholders with each number of shares purchased and the date when they were bought. My good lady printed of all of the above information on A4 sheets and she put them into a large plastic box, and we forgot about them. The list had to be approved by the Celtic board and the reason why I wanted them before they were released, I stated that it was for my own research although I also said that I might contact them later to get their opinions on. Its also covered by the 2006 Companies Act, so you have to be careful who you pass the names and addresses too. Honestly, theirs no-one so far who I would pass them onto, its a question of who to trust.

When Martin arrived in June 2000, he arrived with the perfect plan to deal with hurly burly nature of Scottish football – fill the team with proper men, not 20-21 year olds bought simply based on the possibility of making profit on them 2 years later.
It seems he found out, this summer in particular, that Celtic managers aren’t in complete control of the football department, and the rat and his board now decide what kind of squad we are likely to end up with at the close of each window.
That is just no way to run a football operation.
Of course, selling some players for a nice profit at the correct time is necessary given the environment Scottish clubs find themselves operating in today, but it seems our model is now completely unbalanced, and because of it we can NEVER actually build a team due to our best players being sold regularly at around 18 months to 2 years.
Although I have a lot of sympathy for the manager’s predicament, I’m not naive enough to think guys like Martin don’t understand exactly how the game works, and what they are letting themselves in for by signing any contract king rat puts in front of them.
So, why are we now here? Why does Martin now have to take time to decide if he wants to continue .. simply cause we have had a few bad defeats? Don’t ALL football clubs lose matches? I always try to be understanding of any man’s position but have to admit to being totally confused about wtf is going on at our club.
Some seem to think guys like me aren’t entitled to question anything the club is doing anymore, simply due to the fact I’ve stopped putting money in king rat’s pockets. Nothing could happen, good or bad, that would ever diminish my love for the team …my love for the team is deep in the marrow of my bones, and will be there till I take my last breath.
My boy (Fast becoming a man) has taken up that very same love and goes to see Celtic, so if I make absolutely no attempt to influence him in any way not to follow his heart, I am hardly likely to spend my days trying to influence a bunch of strangers, on a wee football site, not to go watch the team.
Even if my decision somehow managed to make another man stop and question his own choice to attend, that man ending his own love affair with the club would give me zero pleasure, I made my decision based on what I felt Scottish football has become ..and put more simply, because I wanted to be able to look myself in the mirror and still respect the guy who was looking back.
To each their own.

My general position on anything is that we never will know enough to be certain of anything. So dont really know what will happen
Having said that no matter what emerges about the past it is highly unlikely the SPFL or SFA will want to go back to what could be an honest future.
Nevertheless Celtic supporters, if they read what took place and how matters were contrived in 2012 to acheive the desired result, they will be in a better position to decide whether or not our game, not just Celtic is worth supporting so we’ll see.
It wasnt just Celtic supporters whose beliefs about our game as a support changed after 2012. The 5WA rankles with supporters of other clubs.
So it all falls into the we’ll see category.

It makes arguments I’ve made against the CSL objective and will be as welcome to David Low as a fart in a space suit.
It also covers my point about the self harm in the not a penny campaign and suggests the kind of questions to put to The Board to address supporters concerns.
It is an opportunity to reconsider how the support can have a united independent say, which my Membership Service proposal that DD thought was well thought out, would provide if the support want to pay for that independence.
King rat’s utterings get taken apart. Talk about being out of touch with reality and having zero self awareness.
Every time I see him try to blacken the name of our great manager, who should be held in the highest regard, it turns my stomach. I hope, when the time comes, Brendan proves that your sickening attacks on him were only done to try and shift the focus ANYWHERE bar where it belonged, on YOU!

No denying the fabulous contributions made by MoN, not least last season’s triumphs, where only a few of us had “ blind faith” that we were in the right hands at the right time facing off the perennial Hun chokers and the careerist loser in McInnes.
Unfortunately we are now seeing a man lost in confusion, without a system and a team that has no idea what is going on ( Ccv’s words) stagger from one unfathomable performance to the next.
It’s chaos and shambolic.
I’m not sure who I hate more – the rat who acts like he owns us, or the even snakier types who spend their days trying to influence the fans to forgive and forget all he has done.
Given we rarely hear from king rat, why did he think it was a good idea to go out his way to let us know how much he respects the very bastards that spent years cheating us ..and everyone else involved in Scottish football??
Like I said, talk about being out of touch while having zero self awareness.

Quite appropriate based on today’s discussion
Ex machina,
As you know, I was one of those few you speak of, one of the few who never stopped believing we would turn things around and ultimately end on top, but this season somehow feels very different.
I can’t tell you what Martin is thinking, but I have to admit to being confused about why he chose to come back for another go this summer. I remember talking to my own son about this before we knew who the manager would be this season, and telling him I didn’t think for a minute Martin would be back.
I’ve seen the rumours about financial problems Etc, and in the absence of anything that makes sense to me why he came back again, I find myself wondering if money is actually the real reason he’s choosing to keep taking the headaches at his time of life.
Make it make sense.

CELTIC AT AN INFLECTION POINT? | David Low On Desmond, The AGM & What Happens Next@CelticExchange
I believe that if anyone is attending Brendan’s ACSOM organised chat in the expectation of Brendan finally’ telling it like it is’ in respect of the boardroom shenanigans at Celtic will be very disapointed.
Two probable reasons Brendan didn’t reply to DD’s character assasination of him at the time. One being that managers with a history of ‘telling it like it is’ may struggle to find employment with another club. And 2, being the more probable, a legally binding NDC / NDA. In the UK there is no default expiration date under UK law, meaning the exact duration depends entirely on what is written in your specific contract.
NDC
1. Standard Employment Contracts
When a head coach or manager is hired by a club, their written employment contract almost always contains a strict confidentiality clause. This legally binds the manager from sharing proprietary club information, including:
Detailed player tactical profiles, training methods, and proprietary playbooks.Ongoing internal transfer market targets, ongoing negotiations, and specific financial budgets.Private player data, including medical histories or internal disciplinary incidents.
2. Exit Packages and Settlement Agreements
The most common time an explicit, standalone NDA comes into play is when a manager is fired or leaves by mutual consent.
Because football managers sign lucrative, multi-season fixed-term contracts, sacking them early requires substantial payout negotiations. To receive their multi-million-pound lump-sum compensation packages, clubs require them to sign a settlement agreement containing strict non-disclosure terms. This prevents the manager from doing “tell-all” media interviews or writing books that reveal dressing room drama, board disputes, or private club operational details
Gordon,
I wouldn’t trust David Low anymore than I trust the Desmond’s. My guess is he is what they call controlled opposition, there to give you the impression there are people who challenge Desmond and his board.
From Governments down, it’s a long used tactic that stops you getting up out your chair to make a challenge, as you are kidded someone is already doing it on your behalf.
HH 🍀
WDS,
On the chances of Brendan turning up with a loaded shotgun ready to defend himself against the stuff that’s been said about him, I’ve a feeling you’ll end up right and fans like me won’t see what we’re hoping to see.
Whether it’s because of some non-disclosure contract, or because he just has too much class to get involved in a mud slinging contest, matters little in the grand scheme.

If we don’t change our playing style and formation, we will have learned nothing…..
====
I agree with you but the main problem to me is whatever we try we lack strength and athleticism to make us dominant.
Formation change could reduce defensive frailties to an extent but I see no one in the squad with the physical and mental strength to do it at present.
Funnily enough Donovan is the nearest in terms of attitude to meet that need, just needs to bulk up which he has time to do.
AJ will add some but we do not seem to have enough physical presence in the squad at present.
Auldheid,
You know you should just ignore me? Hmm.
How many years have I been asking you to do just that? And even after all those years of me doing that, and me keeping up my end to ignore you, I still somehow end up being accused of “Hounding” you – funny that, eh?
While we are talking then ..why would my feelings on people like Desmond even move you to comment? You’re always the only person who bites when I mention his lackeys, why would that be? You know, and have for years, that I don’t trust you, you know I don’t believe you, so why do you constantly feel the need to keep putting me in a position where I’m only going to be honest about that?
Why not just ignore each other? I have absolutely no interest in speaking to you, as no matter how much time passes, I’m never going to change my opinion about what you are up to, in fact the more time passes, the more I’m certain I’m right.
Because some (A very small minority) seemed to be shocked I would tell you I don’t trust you, I ended up repeatedly having to defend myself for something that should be just accepted as my right – others are free to judge you on their own ..I have little interest in what others see or believe, but I won’t be dragged into this again, where I always seem to end up the one having to explain something I shouldn’t have to ..so
I will ask you ONE MORE TIME, if you somehow can’t slide past my posts that have a go at Desmond and his lackeys, that’s on you, but I just hope that by making it crystal clear I have no wish to engage with you, you will finally get the message and see that it’s not benefitting you trying to give me messages about forgiveness …as far as Desmond, and the snakes who do his bidding, there will be NO forgiveness, no matter how much time passes.
I won’t be getting involved here as I know how this movie always ends.

Didn’t Jesus physically throw people out of a temple and chase them from it ?
I suppose he could have just left them in there and forgave them.
Perhaps throwing them out and chasing them away and then forgiving them ?
Is it ok to throw people out of certain places and chase them away if you are a Christian? And then forgive them ?
I’m more your Buddhist type, though there’s a good argument for Jesus being a proto-Socialist I believe.
BAD
I agreed with you on your recent posts about Celtic👍
Ex machina,
I read your posts all last season and know , like me, you are a KTF type ..(I like that)
But ..
When guys like us, attendee or not, start to lose that, alarms bells should be ringing all over, especially in places filled with people who should be sensitive to such things and care.
The fact there has been such little acknowledgement it’s even happening, the fact there’s been such a change in the faith we had as a support should have been alarming to those who claim to only have the club’s best interests at heart ..those that not only say they care what we think, but should show they understand who the most important people attached to the club are.
Events, like Desmond’s boy’s performance at the AGM, only seem to confirm to me what I’ve felt all along about guy’s life Desmond, that they are absolute bullshitters ..in other words fake as f#¢&.
I just can’t see how’s things are supposed to change as long as rats like him hold the reigns. We should be so much more than we are, and it’s people like him and his son holding us back from at least trying to regain our past respect in Europe etc.
It’s sore, really sore, watching what we’ve become on that stage, a stage where we once were kings.

A club founded on the values of Christ – but also one that very quickly forgot that in the pursuit of profit and wealth. Celtic FC has been a buisness far longer than it was ever an explicitly charitable organisation. The current iteration of the Celtic PLC has as much in common with Brother Walfred as Joe Stalin did, so let’s drop the B/S Christian stuff trying to make a point.
As for the forgiveness institution in Belfast (lol), I think you’ll find the Nationalist community in the North is more than willing to forgive and forget as long as those who inflicted the pain show genuine remorse and contrition. They are still waiting, and as the ongoing situation in the North proves, it seems they may well be for just a wee while yet.
Rook,
Religious historians confirmed Jesus did indeed
throw the moneylenders out of the temple.
What has only recently been discovered is that he had just returned from watching Nygren Morris dance around the midfield and Scales inability to pass it five yards.
Rook,
Danke.
I’m not religious, even in the slightest, but I am extremely soft hearted and have been known to forgive those that have been guilty of stepping on my nice suede shoes, so that shows the effect what Desmond did/said had on me.
The reason I use words like HATE in relation to him, and those that were happy to go along with the Rangers/Sevco lie fest, while giving the world the impression that meant all of us, club/fans etc, were happy to go along with it, it’s because I don’t just love Celtic, I always treated it as something super precious.
It may sound daft to others, I don’t know, but I have always felt Desmond didn’t care if he was responsible for taking that from me by sickening me so much I just couldn’t ignore it and carry on like nothing had happened.
Again, Just to be clear, I hope anyone who has been able to carry on going along to enjoy Celtic is having a ball, and I don’t want to be in any way influential in what they choose to do, I’m only speaking for myself.
All the best, buddy

Rook, its easy and not difficult,as I said to BAD I am doin what generations of my family have done since the good brother set the good ship afloat of the alter at St.Marys.
I am fully concious of what is going on at Celtic,I prefer activism like David Lows share conversion last week, other ongoing initiatives etc,but I would say you err associating DD with anything like the kellys,he is a different animal to the likes of ‘the pact” in 94
Ps. I have a great love of socialism and anti-imperialism but even though I truly truly cherish them I can’t say they are “pristine”. So I’m genuinely intrigued to find out how you maintain that stance.
Rook-I have a great love of Celtic.all things Celtic.it is pristine through good and bad times,my use of Pristine is from a long gone relative who attended for 50 years til the early 70s,the 20s,30s 40s,50s and our season in the sun, what would you have thought of Celtic in those decades? Its just me mate, how Celtic have been brought to me,and I try pass that on.
Apologies if I’m putting you on the spot and you find it’s too personal and no ones fecking business, if so just ignore my daft ramblings, God knows my family do lol
Rook absolutely no need for any apology and Celtic are an open book to me so ask away,I support Celtic but I am rational enough to say they dont put a dinner on my table.i have knowledge of accounts and running business with turnover similar to Celtics, not a fitba club tho.
Take care I hope you dont mind the way I insert into your post.

HI BAD yes jim played the trombone ,thanks for your kind remarks about him, and also your kind remarks about wee joan 👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
For those interested in junior fiba, a really entertaining all effort game at Cumnock under the lights last night in the Scottish Cup. Their first win over Auchinleck in 12 attempts featured a gutsy call from the lady referee.
A tremendous response to a 4-0 drubbing by the same team a week earlier. Wish we could have emulated it after our own Bigotdome collapse.🙏
