With crisis comes opportunity

Its been the best International break of recent times. Plenty to discuss and none of them laughing matters.

Last Sunday morning Derek would have been the waking up laughing and once he heard Rangers were in the news he would have believed praise was coming. His feel-good factor got blasted out of the blue (pardon the pun) and now all the current players are properly aware of the past I hope. It was hard to turn anywhere but their name was getting dragged into a comparison chart with England’s team in blue.

The Parkhead bigwigs may or may not have been laughing at them being unexpectedly dragged back into the uncomfortable past, but the smiles would have ceased upon hearing Brendan is visiting the supporters for an evening of chit-chat. Ahem.

The attempt to shift the narrative was as transparent as it was pathetic. They dragged a young ex-players race into the mix, then our well known links to the City Group was deemed sufficient evidence of guilt by association.

Nothing will happen up north, we all know that, but it’s delicious knowing some must squirm when quotes like “tainted titles” and “we all know” are given much airwave time.
The debate between them and the “we lived the moment” crowd is very interesting and revealing.
Its also frustrating because each camp is correct in their view, if anything it could be said those that celebrated the winning got more out of the tainted years as yes they own those memories.

But football is not just about the memory. If we whallop Motherwell 5-0 you would probably say that was money well spent and a good memory. Football should never been squeezed soo much that the memories of a single game or games surpass the highs and lows of the entire journey from start to finish. Aguero was a fleeting moment, the Tommy title was the trip of a lifetime.

It’s good to see the sport truly and properly kickstarted into action over club ownership and rule changes will be proposed by the supposed 15 who would vote City out per the rags. Introspection and restructure is called for at club level, better guardrails and more grassroots help from Gov.

It didn’t happen in Scotland, but there’s a world in which this City malarkey really helps tie the rest together and form closer bonds.
It’s too early to say if this is the best thing that ever happened to them, but there’s a chance. With crisis comes opportunity.

Rook,

I’m glad some are at least letting Desmond know how we feel. Do I think anything we do makes a blind bit of difference to him? I wish I could yes.

I know some would be happy to see guys like me either let go of my feelings on the man, or just clam up and disappear, I’m sorry to disappoint them but I’m in for the long haul, and the hope that I’m still able to enjoy Celtic long after he has fecked off and found another thing to toy with.

BP,

AHH, the trombone? Yeah, I was right, I don’t remember reading that at all, very interesting.

It’s a real shame you both didn’t meet 30 years earlier when you were both musically active, or we might have had another Beatles on our hands, eh? Jim on the brass etc, and you doing your thing on the drums, all you’d have needed was me to bring my Fender along and away we might have went .. straight on to top of the pops! 😊

We don’t need to know the exact details of what happened between Brendan and the club to know Desmond used the situation, and Brendan’s name, to shift any focus that might have been on him or the board.

And without knowing exactly what went on in the relationship between Desmond and Brendan, I know which one I’d prefer to break bread with.

I know but would that have happened if the club had stuck to its founding values?

No house divided for a start.

Celtic as a whole club lost its way when those responsible saw it as a money maker.

An accusation that remains today although to exist Celtic has to make money but not at the price (I mean division) that is being paid.

Its sad to see how much joy has been sucked away from being a Celtic supporter.

You know fine well that the comment you selectively harvest described on field chaos.

Ex M -;nope you will have to enlighten me as to
Which comment? What am I harvesting?
In short whit ard you havering bout?

“The same coaching team, the same formation, tactics and personnel deployed with the inevitable head scratching substitutions – what possibly can go wrong?

ExM I look forward to you asking MoN those questions with the same vitriol and disdain.
£100 to Mahes charity if you done that to his face lols, good venting but I know if you even attempted to speak like that to MoN youd be popped.lol good typin tho mmmm

Hoping for some sort of miracle transformation but expecting the grinding tedium of a hopeless, failed system.” A shitshow. I stand by that opinion.
Off field the obvious, dysfunctional, failed operation can also be fairly described as a shitshow.

ExM I have seen worse and stuck by my team.no walking away here.

You feel differently about it – good for you.
Celtic legend he undoubtedly is but MoN is yesterday’s man – I referred to him as an Capn Mainwaring/ Corporal Jones mash up I think – and said he should retire gracefully, he’s become a caricature, hence the description – sadly we’d be left with the gormless Private Pike & extras

Ex M thats it let it all out, show that typing prowess and try very badly at having a go at our manager, dont stop there but mind nae kicking tellys

If I had a seat number I wouldn’t give it to you for fear of being stalked, but would happily chat over an overpriced pie and Bovril at half time at one of the many quality food outlets our club provides around the crumbling concrete concourse.

Ex M oh be quiet, your paranoia and delusions are unfoundedtho not as funny as your view on MoN.which borders on the disgusting

Why are you dishing out grief to a fellow Celt when you go yourself?,or is your head fried you dont go to games, but do go,boycott but dont boycott, its all very wishy-washy and meaningless bland.

saying it forever.

only another owner changing sides and voting against desmond makes a difference.

same as itwas in 94.

====
Its not the same as 94 . Celtic are no where closure and although we complain about lack of squad spend and selling our best player for a profit that profit is recycled into football earnings.

It is that policy that will enable Celtic to maintain and perhaps increase spend as far as FSR SCR allows.

Next season like this one our income will come from what the supporters spend at home and Europe and UEFA EL income.

To that will be added around £34m from player trading from Engels, Maeda,Hatate, Kenny and Nawrocki.

The issue is getting bang per buck in recruiting with better balance between football needs and finance so that football helps the finance.

Next summer our profit will depend on how much we get for AJ and Nygen Bauer. Duran will hopefully not need to be sold but unless we do see players in the squad raise their game enough to attract high bids then we will need every penny not spent to stop squad wages falling and with it football quality.

I wonder if he now recollects the differences between how the EPL are dealing with Man City and how the SFA lied to him.

I hope you and others can find time to read the article and letter at.

Who knows the effort made back then might still have an impact now.

Alex Thomson too remembers the events well and why he gave up pursuing after the Supreme Court ruling as it was obvious to him by the Scottish football is a bent as a nine bob note.

Yet as Mags occasionally reminds us folk pay a lot more than that to watch a circus, which to be fair does occupy our attention.

————————-
Hi Mike:
Respectfully disagree with you. For example, I think that there are only 6 Scots in possibly the toughest league in the world, the EPL, and they all feature today – McGinn, McBurnie, Hickey, Gannon-Doaks, Robertson and Christie. I can remember when the top English league had Scots in almost every team, with several teams having multiples. Leeds with Bremner, Jordan, Lorimer, Gray, Man U with Crerand, Law, Morgan etc.

Most of today’s Scots EPL representatives are on the downside of their careers, and I can see a future EPL with no Scots at all. The French academies are turning out dozens of potential internationals every year, the EPL is spoiled for choice, and the world is their oyster.
