With crisis comes opportunity
Its been the best International break of recent times. Plenty to discuss and none of them laughing matters.
Last Sunday morning Derek would have been the waking up laughing and once he heard Rangers were in the news he would have believed praise was coming. His feel-good factor got blasted out of the blue (pardon the pun) and now all the current players are properly aware of the past I hope. It was hard to turn anywhere but their name was getting dragged into a comparison chart with England’s team in blue.
The Parkhead bigwigs may or may not have been laughing at them being unexpectedly dragged back into the uncomfortable past, but the smiles would have ceased upon hearing Brendan is visiting the supporters for an evening of chit-chat. Ahem.
The attempt to shift the narrative was as transparent as it was pathetic. They dragged a young ex-players race into the mix, then our well known links to the City Group was deemed sufficient evidence of guilt by association.
Nothing will happen up north, we all know that, but it’s delicious knowing some must squirm when quotes like “tainted titles” and “we all know” are given much airwave time.
The debate between them and the “we lived the moment” crowd is very interesting and revealing.
Its also frustrating because each camp is correct in their view, if anything it could be said those that celebrated the winning got more out of the tainted years as yes they own those memories.
But football is not just about the memory. If we whallop Motherwell 5-0 you would probably say that was money well spent and a good memory. Football should never been squeezed soo much that the memories of a single game or games surpass the highs and lows of the entire journey from start to finish. Aguero was a fleeting moment, the Tommy title was the trip of a lifetime.
It’s good to see the sport truly and properly kickstarted into action over club ownership and rule changes will be proposed by the supposed 15 who would vote City out per the rags. Introspection and restructure is called for at club level, better guardrails and more grassroots help from Gov.
It didn’t happen in Scotland, but there’s a world in which this City malarkey really helps tie the rest together and form closer bonds.
It’s too early to say if this is the best thing that ever happened to them, but there’s a chance. With crisis comes opportunity.

I think Jesus would be a great footballer for Celtic.
For starters.
He knows how to nail a cross.
…. I was around when Jesus Christ had his moments of doubt and pain….
When I type online … he was also good on real life, pretty sure we shared a shandy in McChuills with the BMCUWP & crew on

Didn’t Jesus physically throw people out of a temple and chase them from it ?
I suppose he could have just left them in there and forgave them.
Perhaps throwing them out and chasing them away and then forgiving them ?
Is it ok to throw people out of certain places and chase them away if you are a Christian? And then forgive them ?
I’m more your Buddhist type, though there’s a good argument for Jesus being a proto-Socialist I believe.

He was indeed which is why I would like Celtic to be truer to his values – all of them.
When I say Celtic I mean as a whole not how it is now where a meaness of spirit has taken over.
No wonder Jesus wept.
All that sacrifice fur nuthin.

I think having players play at a higher level cant help but improve the team. Dont think it will change things dramatically overnight, but I do think it will eventually help.
but, then again, I am the blog’s resident little ray of sunshine, so I would say that…😆
Oh dear its McGills time of the month.
He’s got an advanced A’ in bitchin.
The only ones that will salivate at that will be the gutter press and the Blue Huns.
I say blue to differentiate from their Green friends.
A song for Margaret – Oh he’s a fanny a fanny but dinnae tell his mammy his mammy.

Note to the Celtic Fans Collective.
Celtic, aka in this instance, Dermot Desmond, does not mind peaceful protest (as long as you’ve bought your ticket).
This sort of performative nonsense will not be tolerated.
BADABING
Re that statement-“Celtic Football Club has never sought to prevent supporters from expressing criticism of the Club, its Board or its shareholders. Supporters are entitled to disagree with decisions, to make their views known and to protest peacefully.”
Does that extend to the right of Celtic fans to have their legally required say at an AGM?
Does it include the right to display banners critical of the board, or the club in general?
Does it include the right to express an opinion of any kind which displeases the board?
Or are any or all all of the above likely to lead to alleged perpetrators being barred from Celtic Park without any need for proof nor right of appeal?
Big Packy

The Club has repeatedly sought engagement with supporter groups
You’ve got to laugh….
BADABING
There were a lot of words in that statement. None of them made me laugh. Despair? That’s another matter. Quite simply, neither side has any idea of how to sort this out. It’s all black and white, and none of the grey areas that are a starting point for discussion.
GFTB
You been on the sauce.
Because your spouting a lot of shite, as usual
“The Club no longer accepts that the Celtic Fans Collective can credibly claim to represent the wider Celtic support. Those responsible for today’s events certainly do not speak for the many thousands of Celtic supporters who express their views passionately, peacefully and responsibly.”
——————————
This is of course patent nonsense. I joined the Collective and believe it represents a huge swathe of the support. The weasels on the Board say they met the Collective recently. Aye, two lawyers and the ‘head of fan engagement.’ No principals. The meeting was held solely for show. Where has the ‘fan engagement’ been the past 2 weeks? Stony silence from an hermetically sealed Executive Office.
That said, I think the Collective made a tactical error. They presented the Board a gift to dominate the narrative. Strategically, the Collective should have focused on making regular press statements consistently outlining the Board’s manifest deficiencies, and their intransigence in making any effort to rectify them. The press would lap it up. Hit the bastards where it hurts, and don’t give them opportunities by own goals like today.
And where precisely do the “Many thousands of Celtic supporters express their views passionately, peacefully and respectfully?” Utter bullshit. There is no avenue to express your views in such a manner. The Club does not reply to letters. It does not reply to emails. The Executive does not speak. He is invisible and hiding. If the Club has received through the ether these passionate, peaceful, respectful comments, show us your response. Oh! right! There’s no response.
Them’s my 2 cents.
St Tams

Celtic Football Club statement

Celtic Football Club condemns in the strongest terms the deliberate disruption which took place today at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.
This was a premeditated action. The Club is aware that it was discussed and planned in advance at a meeting of the Celtic Fans Collective committee. Minutes of that meeting record a proposal specifically to disrupt the event at St Andrews using tennis balls and banners, coordination with supporters intending to attend, and an agreement that Collective funds would be used towards materials for the protest.
Following today’s incident, the Celtic Fans Collective published footage of the disruption on its own social media account together with a statement supporting the action and the message it was intended to convey.
Celtic Football Club has never sought to prevent supporters from expressing criticism of the Club, its Board or its shareholders. Supporters are entitled to disagree with decisions, to make their views known and to protest peacefully. What occurred at St Andrews represents a significant and unacceptable escalation.
A group purporting to act in the interests of Celtic supporters deliberately took a dispute concerning Celtic Football Club beyond Celtic Park and beyond football, to the home of golf, and disrupted an internationally recognised sporting event involving participants, organisers and spectators who have no involvement whatsoever in that dispute. In doing so, those responsible have sought to attach the name of Celtic and its supporters to their conduct on a public and international stage.
Celtic’s reputation has been built over generations, and our supporters have earned a worldwide reputation for the extraordinary passion, loyalty and commitment with which they support their Club. That reputation was built over many decades by generations of Celtic supporters.
Those responsible have brought shame upon the name of Celtic Football Club and upon a reputation which generations of Celtic supporters have spent more than a century building.
Over the past year, however, the conduct of the Green Brigade and those operating through the Celtic Fans Collective has increasingly threatened to undermine that hard-earned reputation. Repeated acts of disruption and escalation, culminating in today’s pre-planned disruption of an entirely unrelated sporting event, risk creating an image of Celtic supporters which is wholly unrepresentative of the overwhelming majority of those who follow the Club.
The reputation of Celtic supporters belongs to the entire Celtic family. It does not belong to any self-appointed group, and no such group is entitled to diminish it in pursuit of its own agenda.
The Club no longer accepts that the Celtic Fans Collective can credibly claim to represent the wider Celtic support. Those responsible for today’s events certainly do not speak for the many thousands of Celtic supporters who express their views passionately, peacefully and responsibly.
The Club will not be intimidated or coerced by organised acts of disruption. Nor will decisions concerning the stewardship of Celtic Football Club be dictated by those prepared continually to escalate their behaviour in an attempt to exert pressure upon the Club, its employees, directors, shareholders or others associated with Celtic. There is a line between protest and deliberate disruption. Today that line was crossed.
The Club has repeatedly sought engagement with supporter groups and, where restrictions have previously been imposed, has sought to provide a route by which relationships could be rebuilt on the basis of responsible conduct. Most recently, the Club met representatives of the Celtic Fans Collective in good faith in an effort to engage constructively with the concerns they wished to raise.
It is therefore particularly regrettable that, while the Club was continuing to engage in good faith, the Collective was planning and authorising further organised disruption. This follows the pattern of events surrounding the Stuttgart fixture earlier this year, when constructive engagement was similarly accompanied by plans for disruptive action.
Today represents a further and more serious escalation. This time, the disruption was taken entirely outside Celtic and outside football, intruding upon an unrelated sporting event and targeting an individual while participating in that event in a private capacity.
The conduct of the past year, culminating in today’s events, has demonstrated that the basis for constructive engagement has been fundamentally undermined. Accordingly, the Club will no longer recognise the Celtic Fans Collective as a representative body speaking on behalf of Celtic supporters and will cease all engagement with the Collective with immediate effect. The Club is examining today’s events. Any individuals or groups who are established to be involved in planning, facilitating or participating in this action will be banned indefinitely from Celtic Park.
No supporter requires the permission of Celtic Football Club to disagree with its Board. But equally, no supporter group has an entitlement to repeatedly disrupt events, intimidate individuals or seek to coerce the Club and then claim to do so on behalf of the Celtic support.
Celtic will continue to listen to and engage with supporters who wish to make their voices heard constructively and responsibly. There are many established channels through which supporters can do so, and today’s decision does not diminish the Club’s commitment to meaningful supporter engagement. But engagement requires responsibility. The Club will protect its employees, directors, shareholders and supporters.
The reputation of Celtic Football Club is non negotiable.

INIQ……I agree that the tennis ball action was not the best idea, bit stupid really. The Club’s response is even more stupid…no thought put into the reaction from fans, despite the limp soothing words. Last season they dragged out Brian Wilson to try and make peace, the Board have played all their cards, nothing left…….going to be big trouble from fan reaction.
As Jock Stein said “football without fans is nothing”.
