Back to the grind

Rather than feel like a break the lengthy spell alongside the headlines almost had me believing Man City just plain murdered football and it had left this world.

Such a travesty won’t take place on our watch and so its back to the grind, and when I say grind I mean grind. A “testing” period lies ahead, and I’m not just talking about the boardroom/fan tussle, Celtic will be facing good sides. There are 9 games in this block before the November break, and to emerge with heads held high would take a standard of play thats yet to emerge this season.

This block of fixtures basically defines our season, really tough or not. Losing to Benfica is a given, Fir Park on Sunday is the only chance to squeeze a W in between for L’s in the recent form guide. Those at Hearts will be watching carefully because what is pulled out of the hat this weekend they face next, and supposedly the data and manager are in tune to find our gaps, gulp.

Clusters of games are often used as benchmarks, and it must be said the manager needs some type of response from the squad for them.
Whatever he has done over the last 3 weeks might be Martins last roll of the dice. If the players want him gone here’s their prime opportunity. On the flip side if ever the team needed home backing this is our prime opportunity and now we know for reasons beyond the players control instead of encouragement and songs the negative audibles with be amplified, great timing.

I’ve never known a straightforward SPL win to be so necessary and so meaningful. By hook or by crook we need to win this match but straightforward SPL wins and Celtic aren’t the best of friends recently, been on the rocks for a while actually. We need a ray of sunshine through the gathered clouds and some excitement injected back into our lives and theres only one team for the job.

On a footballing level Im happy to face Motherwell as they try to play which suits us, good surface, and the away fans in full voice. Its a pity our one and only gold medal winner (?) is injured, I wanted Yang to storm back triumphant like Caesar, and lead us to victory. Someone definitely needs to lead us to victory, Callum and the OX had a holiday then two weeks to prepare for this game, be nice to see either stepping up. I heard the left flank is very light but I still dont want Tonetki there, James if needed.

A non 3points lackluster performance will likely see the sky cave in on Celtic Park, Benfica will add to the pile in, leaving the Jambos as the ticking time bomb to derail us.

Please Sellic, deliver some respite to the masses. Bring those points home.

The one we have gone for is

You’d like to believe that the stay at home

“ leadership” group of Calmac CCV KT and even the experienced Ox might have got their egos/ heads together with our crack coaching team to produce something approaching a gameplan/strategy that all buy into.

I suspect not and it’ll be chaos and randomness at play.

A tired looking backline, inexplicably unimproved from last season, picks itself. The midfield muddle will continue, despite the three out three in changes, it looks weak and pedestrian.

As for the attack we still don’t know who

( Høgh) plays where!

Let the shambles begin.

We’d be as well with Abbot n Costello in the dugout.

Would you even take a loss or draw at Fir Park tomorrow if you could see the start of something resembling a cohesive way of playing? If we started playing as a unit with a plan rather seemingly relying on individuals? If big improvements were made in effectively breaking the opposition press when playing out from the back and no more panicked punts up the pitch to lose possession? If we left less big empty spaces and no more Keystone cops defending whilst ensuring opposition players don’t get free shots from our D ?
I dunno.

What I do know is blogs like this serve an excellent function when you are housebound with flu/covid, sniff.

Yeah, I would. Especially give we start the weekend 2 points ahead, I believe a coherent system would see us make up any shortfalls in the coming months.

Too much football to be played.

On the other hand, dropped points with no apparent change to system would just be another nail in MONs coffin.

A win ,win.

If we get something approaching what Rook suggests that will be something to build on.

The players have to step up a gear – even against “ formidable “ Motherwell. ( Three losses in a row, one win in six).
Good grief you would think we were about to play Real or Bayern according to MoN.

Time to get back behind the team as they attempt to get back to winning ways.

I’m a bit older then MON but have absolutely no experience of managing other than an under ten boys team when BMCUWP was but a lhad!
What I do have which we all share with MON is two eyes. Why his two don’t see what my two, and thousands of others, see absolutely astounds me.
We are literally weak in every defensive and midfield positions and easily knocked aside at almost all challenges. Throwing out a leg with the strength of a daisy chain achieves nothing and nothing is what it gets. Upfront Hogh and Duran look physical but in reality are also easily brushed aside.
Ive seen many a poor Celtic team and today’s is well up the list of the worst.
If you don’t have skill ffs show some commitment and doggedness and win some tackles. Stop leaving gaps like the Grand Canyon. Stop ball watching and ffs stop back passing!
im not asking for the moon just a committed workmanlike one hundred per cent effort for the whole game.
Let tomorrow be the new dawn.

It’s a reference to the who’s on first sketch.

I said we’d be “as well with” because our coaching team seem as confused as the comedy duo.
It is intended as a way of highlighting where our deplorable coaching is taking us. They aren’t exempt from critical observation.
CCV’s comments suggest the players don’t know what’s going on.

Greetings all:
Had a really busy morning so just logged on.
I would like to say that, despite being jet-lagged more than usual, I had a blast at the Shipbank yesterday. Hospitable hosts and really great company.
It was a real pleasure to put weel kent names to faces with a common interest. There was passionate argument without a shred of rancor, informed comment, lots of shared memories, and a barrowload of laughs.
I enjoyed myself immensely, and I hope indisposed lads like BBRB and Big Jimmy recover soon.
Thanks again lads!
Hoping to link up with FRODSHAMBHOY later in the month in Englandshire.

Yeah it does my head in when defending we just follow the opposition player who is getting nearer and nearer our goal but we don’t commit to a well timed intervention to get the ball back.

We need to be more positionally aware to and aware of who is where, so that you don’t pass or head it to an opposition player rather than a teammate, also keep a track of where the nearest opposition players are at all times so they don’t sneak up on you and pinch the ball or create space for a shot whilst you’re in no man’s land

Its about being one step ahead of the opposition and knowing what they will do before they do it. Is that done during team sessions where we study a teams players, their patterns, the feet they kick with and their managers way of playing? I presume so.
