Such A Pleasure
Morning, all.
There’s little doubt that Sunday gave us our best performance of the season, and probably the calendar year, so far. And it even gave us the chance to play our own Ode To Joy, the Theme from the Magnificent Seven! What was on paper a very awkward proposition turned into a stroll, and don’t be fooled by the SMSM pointing their fingers at a shocking defensive display. They are simply up to their old tricks of refusing to give us credit for anything while trying to sow doubt and discord in our ranks.
The SMSM knives were definitely out leading into this match, with the chopping block being prepared for players and management alike. Had this game gone as they wished, it would have been a bloodbath with accusations being thrown at everyone. I mean, that daft old codger Keevins had us finishing the game in third place had we lost, blindly ignoring the facts as usual. Which were that no matter the result on the day, the league positions of the top three would remain unaltered with Celtic at worst maintaining a slender advantage. It takes a special kind of warped mind to make that the gist of your weekend article, yet there it was in black and white. Makes me wonder if they still employ proof readers at his failing rag.
Callum Osmand again seized his chance to stake a claim for a regular starting position while assuring us that he can be called upon when required. Camilo Duran made his own point about where his best position is by turning his defensive opposition inside out. Total panic anytime those two got near the ball. Hassiem Hassan had his best game, leaving his markers for dead rather than simply running into blind alleys at every turn.
But while Baur also had a game to remember, I thought the midfield and defence were guilty of allowing Hearts too many opportunities at goal. And the one they took was down to our old failing of leaving the D unmarked for an opponent to stride into and line up his shot while under no pressure. In other words, I think it’s too early yet to say for definite that we have turned the corner, that our frailties are behind us. But it is a helluva good start!
The games are coming our way thick and fast with the constant weekend-midweek-weekend programme which takes its toll on minds and bodies. Our midweek opponents will obviously face the same problems, but our domestic ones won’t-apart of course from Hearts, our weekend opponents just gone. In other words, every weekend will see us playing a fresh team, one which hasn’t had the grind of a long midweek flight plus a tiring ninety minutes against quality opposition. There’s little doubt that we need European football, nor that the players look forward to it-but ask them about it on a Friday morning and they might not be quite so enthusiastic!
But don’t think that I’m pissing on everyone’s chips after a tremendous display and trying to downplay it. Not at all. I’ll be rewatching Sportscene a few times come what may, it’s such a pleasure to hear the pundits congratulating our team through gritted teeth, etc. I hope it has given the players a real confidence boost for the weeks and months ahead, reminded them of who they are and why they are wearing our jerseys. I would certainly rather be basking in a 7-1 hammering than sulking after another doing!
We move onto our next two matches, at home to Celta Vigo then away to Hibs, with a new found spring in our step. It may be too that MON has some thinking to do regarding his best XI, especially now that Jota looks ready for his first starts. I might be inclined to leave that for another week or two, but probably not if the only other option is Tounekti. Meantime, he can focus his attention on our midfield, which I don’t think is the finished article just yet. Put that marvellous old brain to work, Martin, and dredge us up a winning formula. There’s a good lad.

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2026-27*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #15 CELTIC 7 HEARTS 1 (Tierney, Nygren(2), Osmand(2), Duran, Own Goal)*
Good evening, friends.
On the eve of the 69th anniversary of THAT League Cup Final win it was excellent planning to secure yet another 7-1 win!
We got a wee late bonus on Saturday evening when Sevco decided that they would, yet again, have a tricky October, dropping a couple of points to in form Dundee. So we were able to go into what we expected to be a tricky game knowing that we’d still be top regardless of the outcome. But 10 minutes in and that outcome was no longer in doubt.
With just 6 minutes on the clock, A Baur corner to the front post was flicked on by Scales to the well positioned Tierney to nod home. 3 minutes later, another corner from the same left side was partially cleared but hooked back in by Murray for Nygren to volley home.
The next 25 minutes were just shaded by Hearts in terms of possession and goal attempts but with no real tests for Sinisalo. Having scored our first 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes, we decided to go one better this time. Osmand was brilliantly slipped through by Duran and finished well. Then Duran nicked possession on the half way line, headed towards Hearts’ box and after having his shot saved, chipped the rebound for Osmand to nod home. 4 goals in 37m 20s and joy overflowing from the stands. Well, most of them.
Hearts’ only goal of the game came from a move started by a throw in 20 yards along from where Hassan had played the ball out. Our defence could still have done better I suppose. Anyway, right on half time and our 4 goal lead was restored by Twinkle Toes Baur who expertly jinked past a couple of Hearts defenders before playing the ball across the goal for 2 other defenders to create an own goal. They all count!
The second half began with the introduction of Jota for Osmand and we were treated to a really good 45 minutes from our returning superstar. It looks like it won’t be too long before he becomes an automatic pick for our starting 11.
On 49 minutes Tierney did well to steal the ball on half way and progressed with it through the middle before feeding Duran for a well placed finish into the corner. 6-1. We then had a 5 minute spell that saw 3 Celtic players, Jota, Baur and Donovan, all booked. Mika’s was the one that annoyed me most – why pull a guys shirt on half way when we are leading 6-1 knowing that a card would certainly come?
With 10 minutes to go we completed the rout. Good hold up play by Høgh then resulted in a perfect pass through to Nygren for his 2nd goal of the game.
And that was that. Fans streaming out of the stadium with smiling faces and singing a Joy Division classic mad for a rather beautiful Sunday.
Celtic have now played 15 games, winning 10 and losing 5. We have scored 33 and conceded 20. We sit 4 points clear at the top of the table.
If ever a game was going to generate a voting frenzy it was this one. So my deepfelt thanks to the 124 who submitted their nominations for this one, the joint 2nd highest turnout of the season so far. Another £3 to our nominated charity, taking this season’s total to £30.

Stats as given on BBC match report
FYI, the BBC match report has now awarded our fifth goal to Baur, assist by Nygren, rather than the og originally reported. Good, a quality piece of play like that merits some recognition.
Lost in the miasma… the way Duran took his goal was top quality.
Had it been Mbappe or Messi we would have had someone on asking why we have no one who could do that !
Bobby
Surprised the BBC have allocated it to Baur, from my view in the standing area it looked like the shot was going past the post and not towards goal!
PRESTONPANSBHOY
I couldn’t be sure either way, but the creativity to even get the shot away deserves the recognition, as I said. I think we have a real talent in him, and I hope he sticks around for a while.

No idea who on here would possibly do that🤣.
Celta are a strange side. Lots of draws and a big home win v newly promoted Santander sees them in top 10 of La Liga. But they really struggle against well organised sides.
If we play too openly, they’ll punish us, but if we go for it, we will definitely score a couple v them.
I think , given the poor EL start, we have no option but to go for it.
The Europa league should be used to develop and refine our footballing system.
with no fan expectation the coaches should concentrate their energy on this.
I’ve not yet given up on progression in the Europa League.
Regardless of our own form, when the draw was made Benfica away was already seen as our toughest trip. No points were expected and losing by 3 wasn’t the battering that many of us feared.
Losing at home to Fenerbache was very poor and we can’t afford any more home slip ups.
There’s every chance that 10 points are required to reach the play off stages. We need at least 7 from our 3 remaining home games.
Long way to go.
Fan
After the defeat in Lisbon I would have tended to agree with you about writing off the EL campaign and use it in the manner you suggest. However, I’ve just had a look at the table and there are 9 teams (including us and Celta) on zero points and another 6 on only 1 point.
Given the fixtures we have left, and that arguably the toughest two are at home, perhaps all is not lost yet and qualification can still be possible?
However, I’ve just had a look at the table and there are 9 teams (including us and Celta) on zero points and another 6 on only 1 point.
————
they absolutely need to treat the fixtures as a league position outcome.
we finished 21st last season to sneak into the playoff round. 3 wins 2 draws, the rarer spotted away win being one of them, 11 points and minus 2 goal difference.
we can still progress, just dont get pumped ,
btw, vigo are bringing 3,000 fans.
meanwhile celtic plc are once again pricing out families from attending, NO CONCESSIONS for Under 13s,
bloody disgrace.
faithful through and through, my arse.
Embdae seem Hargreaves? Celtic fans attacked on The Celtic Way on Sunday, no statement ( no surprise), another overpaid cronie, hiding under a desk for a living, the Club is riddled with them

MK Dons (franchise F.C.)😂v. Luton Town.
St.Stivs , think your Ferencvaros was autocorrected to Fenerbache . Still support your optimism though 👍🏻

Wonder if Tounetki turned up today after storming out at the weekend when he was dropped from the squad. I mean does he think he is a first pick rather than 4th choice behind three injured players.
European involvement hampers our league chances.
We do not have the squad to compete in SPL and Europe especially with certain players struggling for fitness.
Prioritise league and use Europe to refine system and let players we. Are going forward with get used to better quality opponents
If we prepared for and built for Europe properly the league would take care of itself.
We should never be thinking Europe gets in the road of the league.
BAD,
You sent me a very fine message yesterday. I do not want you to think I ignored the kind thoughts. It is now one week since I got the news and I have been doing things around the house and garden enjoying the burst of good weather.
We live in a neighbourhood that has grown old together. The houses were built 15-20 years ago and most were occupied by retired or retiring people. Most phases of life are interesting but I have just experienced the 65-80 one. You go into that as one person and emerge as another.
One benefit of getting older is that you inherit a broad span of experiences that can be used to benchmark where you/we are today. Call it old fartism, if you like!
When applying that to Celtic, the outcome is pretty grim and made worse by the present day fumblings. However, I am reminded of an Irish educator who I met in Dublin in the seventies. He was “organising” the most chaotic conference ever. It was held in a nuns’ college, St Pats. Delegates were arriving to find nuns still in their rooms. Every breakfast was an adventure on whether there would be anything there, or whether this guy would take orders for the Kentucky Fried Chicken across the road. The program was mailed out one month before the start but it was not included in the envelope, so everybody got empty envelopes.
I had the best time at a conference, ever. Once I went into the pub next to St Pats and found my friend there. I said to him that things were a little heated back in St Pats. He replied, “Rebus, things are impossible but not serious!” We just sat there and enjoyed a pint.
Enough ramblings for today, hope you have a good one.
Rebus
H3 @3.40,
Absolutely agree. It is so obvious. It makes sense in both financial and footballing terms.
I wonder if this lack of foresight is due to neither DD or his Board having football experience.

BADABING
Obvious, even at the time.
Good lead mick . I listened to the comments on the game not one gave the team a glowing report . Halliday was just pure bitter all you can say about him .typical bbc how they are allowed to continually get away with there anti Celtic agenda . Then It moved onto the words of the skys authority on all things rangers ,he can’t talk about anything else , he went on and on about the hearts defence , what credit he gave Celtic was through gritted turkey teeth . Then it was the turn of that Ewan guy , it’s my own fault for listening to them . We get bad press from them all but yet they get welcomed into Celtic park with open arms , I suppose we deserve what we get from them , they should have been banned many years ago
Ultimate conman…
Bada Bing @4.15pm,
I did say during the game that I would like to see where the throw in was taken from compared to where the ball went out.
Thanks for posting that. Proves I’m not mad and imagining things.
Can you imagine if we had done that and scored?
It would have been super analyzed at half time and all subsequent media outlets.

I am pretty casual at the best of times. Summer its tshirt and shorts. Winter, add a sweater. And since retiring, i gave become even more casual. I think i have worn a suit once this year (to my pal’s funeral). Shave if and when i want. On an almost daily basis, mum asks me when im going to shave.
Two days a week, i volunteer at a homeless shelter/food kitchen. It’s not in the nicest part of town, so i tend to dress down.
I was volunteering at the food kitchen/homeless Shelter this morning. Volunteers have to sign in and out at the office, so have to enter and exit through one set of doors. The residents/people who are eating enter and exit the dining area through a side door.
As I was leaving today, one of the security guards stopped me as I was going to the office and said I should use the side door. I hadnt shaved, and was in a scruffy old pair of jeans, so He thought I was homeless!
Eventually, i had to get someone to vouch for me!
Mum keeps saying I need a shave. I guess she might be right!
MIKEI
I suppose that if you don’t need to dress to impress, you just don’t bother at all!
BMCUWP
The security guy was so apologetic, but i thought it was hysterical. But it did make me realize i have maybe let a few things slip a bit!
Rebus
”Things are impossible but not serious”. Love that! If you and your pal dont mind, i may have to steal that line!
Scottish refs appear to have decided to unilaterally rewrite the Laws of the Game for throw ins.
There are only 3 points for them to control in the procedure for taking a throw in. Dickinson ignored this on Sunday, leading directly to a goal for Hearts. Someone must have pointed this out to him at half time, as Hearts tried the same trick again but this time he spotted it after the ball was thrown into play, and stopped play. He then ignored the Laws again by moving the throw in back to the correct place but not awarding a foul throw to Celtic.
On Saturday, Duncan Nicolson penalised a Dundee player for delaying the taking of a throw in, but failed to give the mandatory 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown, thereby penalising Dundee who were about to take a long throw into the Huns penalty area.
Unsurprisingly, no commentator picked up on these decisions.
For those who responded!
I have been permanently disappointed at Celtics European collapses as I always expected us to compete.
Unfortunately Despot and the Lackeys made it virtually impossible impossible.
This season the league has to be a priority.
Unless in the unlikely scenario we strengthen in required positions we lack resources to compete in SPL and Europe.
SOLKITTS
I thought the whole process of penalising delayed throw-ins didn’t apply to long throws. Specifically to allow the home team to get their big men forward.
Benjamin Nygren was the best player on the park in Sunday’s game,by a country mile.
It wasn’t even close, seriously.
This is why we must scrutinise the stats also, and watch the game.
Contribution is the key word.
Take Liam Scales, for example – also highly rated:
7/11 duels won.
5/6 aerial duels won.
9 clearances.
7 recoveries.
1 block.
Progression:
Accurate passes 89/103
Accurate passes into final third 7/12
Accurate long passes 6/10
Touches 117
Progressive carries 17
Progressive passes 11/19
Also Scale assisted one goal, and created one big chance which is very decent contribution for a defender.
Please bear in mind Liam Scales was slaughtered on these pages, last night for reasons that were simply not true.
The captain on the other hand – stats were abysmal – only had 35 touches of the football in 60 minutes, this a midfielder!!
Food for thought, possibly considering in future voting?

Snap. I retired over 2 years ago, and the last time I wore a suit was at my leaving event at Royal Ascot. Since then my usual attire has been jeans in winter, tee-shirt, shorts in summer. Shaving is dependent on when Mrs Kitts notices that I’ve got a beard.
I think the next time I’ll wear a suit will be a wedding, Christening or funeral.
Hope it still fits.
Prejudice, you see.
Fans have favourites, and fans have players they simply can’t abide for whatever reason.
This why I remain neutral always, and vote without bias.
Paul McStay is my favourite player, and he retired years ago.

There’s nothing in the Laws that exempts long throw-ins from being penalised for delays. However, most referees make reasonable allowance for this. The point still stands, though, that the ref has to start the countdown by whistling and then signalling with his fingers. Nicolson failed to do this, so failed to follow the Laws of the Game.
EVENING ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA,magua just seen your comment from last night, we are ok buddy, she said to me last night about 9-o-clock, do you fancy an early night sweetpie by god I did turned out she wanted me to watch some videos on her IPAD 😎 never mind there is always next year ❤ 😎 😎 😎 SOLKITTS what a story that is, up there with even my best stories,BTW how did you know my name is jimmy 😎 😎 😎 😎

A true story of a dug.
Many moons ago
my wife bought a wire fox terrier and when we split up left it for me.
It was a bad tempered dug.
Since I traveled for work did not want to leave it alone with nanny and kids so I boarded it in a Wire fox kennel in New paltz.
Was setting out to take dog to kennels when my 7 and nine year asked could they come.
Stupidly I agreed but warned them about winding dog up as he gets car sick.
Set off in light snowstorm in my Jeep Cherokee.
The little runts start calling dog and suddenly
dog throws up on my sons shoulder and my son goes eeewww and immediately throws up on back of my head.
Daughter also in back says that’s disgusting and throws up all over my arm.
I was on NY thruway so pulled over onto shoulder.
No cleaning stuff in car so promptly took of shirts and used them to clean.
remember it’s snowing. Throw shirts away drive with windows down for smell.
Got to outlets at Woodbury Common and went into Calvin Klein topless to buy 3 long sleeve t shirts.
Took 20 minutes on phone to bank to convince them I was me.
That bloody dog was the bane of my life!!

16R…if you thonk Scales is a hood fotba player because of his stats that’s fair enough. In my opinion I think he’s a player without the confidence to play fitba the way we need him to ie hit an early pass to start forward play. The examples I gave, as your comment is obviously directed at mine from last night, were supposed to highlight exactly what I see from Scales in a game. As everyone is fond of saying when they feel criticised on here – I’m only saying what I see.
I stand by my criticisms but interestingly I also have voted for him, this season and last, in my Top 3 for Jobo, mainly because the quality of his defending has been better than the quality of our midfield and attacking play. His passing accuracy is a reflection of him not passing early when he has a chance to start the play.
He ain’t no Van Dijk, unfortunately!
I’m happy to say the McStay was by far my favourite Celt, too. We’re not too far apart in taste! 😉😁
