Bolingoli-Why

Morning,all.

No doubt what today’s article was going to focus on once I got out of my scratcher. Bolingoli’s crass and selfish behaviour hasn’t just jeopardised his career-I think he is such damaged goods now that if Celtic sack him,he’ll be lucky to get a job delivering pizza for Deliveroo, much less waltz in to a new club somewhere-he has jeopardised our quest for Ten In A Row,jeopardised the remainder of the season, and as a result jeopardised the entire future of a great many clubs throughout the country.

Make no mistake about it,if this season is cancelled a lot of clubs quite simply won’t survive. The rest will be on their uppers for years to come, and the national game will be unrecognisable from where it was only a couple of years earlier.

But is it fair that he should carry the can for all of this when not only is he not the only one in the game to have ignored the rules? Why is he being singled out in the media and in the Scottish Parliament when the rules are being flouted en masse on a daily basis all over the country? We’ve all seen the photographs of lemmings crowding onto the beaches at the first sign of that big yellow disc in the sky, punters shoulder to shoulder in crowded pubs up and down the country. People might look at these and shake their heads at the idiocy of such behaviour, the Scottish Government might even publicly state their disapproval, but the biggest outcry has been saved for one man. Hardly seems fair, does it?

Well, aye it does. Not everyone is in the privileged position of being able to jump on a plane at the drop of a hat and bugger off to Spain for a lousy couple of nights. That’s Spain, practically the most high-profile country on the UK’s highly-publicised list of countries high demands that anyone flying into the country from there self-isolate on their return. I’m not sure whether this was rank stupidity, selfishness or if he just CGAF. And it doesn’t matter either,as the damage is done.

The Scottish Government have been quite grown up in their response,to be fair. They have warned Scottish football that one more breach will mean that the game’s a bogey and that the game will be halted, but they have also said that any past indiscretions which come to light via social media will not be included. The players need to realise that they will be putting at risk not only their own health, not only their own future, but that of potentially a large number of their fellow professionals, their employers, and the game as a whole.

Yes,it is THAT serious!

However, this brings me back to another question-or two. Should the club have been more stringent in its application of the post-lockdown directives? Were they made sufficiently clear to the players? Should there have been a daily check-in by every player via a zoom call or a simple,time-stamped,photo of them at home? Should we,in fact, not be holding player passports in the company safe for safe-keeping,as I believe used to happen throughout the game in the past,a move designed to prevent the players from turning up at the airport for a European tie without their passports? Seems a bit draconian now,but no-one had any problem with it in the past.

I don’t pretend to have the answers here, but then I don’t have to. I’m not the one who gets paid the big bucks to think these things through, either in advance to prevent such problems arising in the first place,or when dealing with the fallout afterwards. I do know though that measures have to be put in place to prevent a repeat.

***

And this brings me to another question. Not what Bolingoli was doing in Spain last week, but what he was doing being awarded a fat juicy contract at Celtic FC in the first place. This is a player who I can honestly say that I have NEVER ONCE seen have a decent display for us. In fact,I’ll go further. I’ve never once seen him do anything during a game which makes me think-nice one, son. His performances so far have been one long rinse and repeat of him running up the left flank and then either losing the ball by running into an opponent or passing it and standing there watching hide the move peters out. Either way,he is consistently caught out of position when the opposition break, stranded up the field and unable to help his fellow defenders out. I thought Olivier Tebily was bad,but at least he could tackle and clear a corner-it was his concentration which was a problem, give him time on the ball to think and he would invariably make the wrong decision.

Mark Viduka made us a profit and scored some goals for us,but I wish he had never been near the club, and don’t get me started on Rafael Scheidt. And I can probably go back to Jim Plumrose in 1983,for instance,as another who could come into the picture for that accolade, our worst-ever signing. Our readers will no doubt be able to rhyme off a lot more contenders, but for me Bolingoli has exceeded all our expectations in this one.

Our worst-ever signing, made all the worse by being the replacement for our best left back in half a century. It makes me weep, and I hope that whichever processes were followed which allowed his signing have been drastically tightened up so that there is no repeat of this fiasco. The question isn’t whether he should be sacked,it’s what he was doing wearing The Hoops in the first place.

My apologies for the tardiness of the article. It was like trying to sleep in a sauna last night, and has been for a while. Anyway,I understand the frustration that many of you are experiencing while trying to get onto the site.

Internal server problem at WordPress. If making a comment, might be an idea to c&p it first,at least until they sort it. Or put two bob in the meter. Also,if you get a 404 or 504 etc message, just refresh it and it should clear.

I honestly don’t know why they are taking so long to sort this. Maybe their servers can’t cope with the heat anymore than I can!

Garry

I only have one question. Who scouted this guy and thought he was an adequate replacement for Kieran Tierney?

Garry

BMCUW
I have a few posts from last night that did not send. Also got the server messages. Eventually gave up. Seems much better this morning. Maybe last night’s incredible thunder and lightning storm has cleared the air?

GARRY

Our apologies, mate. And to everyone experiencing these problems. Genuinely out of our hands. It’s happened to me often enough too!

Garry

Hopefully the silver lining in this cloudy issue, is that we sign a proper left back to replace this fraud. Kieran Tierney is a far better player than Bolingoli and Taylor combined, by a huge distance.

jimthetim53

Another annoying thing I read this morning is that Bolingoli had previously went to France recently. The club were not pleased and warned him – personally – no more foreign travel. So he cannot have any excuse. It was a flagrant, deliberate fingers up to the club. In my understanding this is gross misconduct and a sackable offence. There is red tape to adhere to but it is sackable. With no compensation.

Garry

Absolutely no need to apologise M.
As we both know, shit happens sometimes. Glad that Mahe and yourself are on the case and show a level of concern and care for the site’s quality. Cheers bhoys ?

I personally think that Bolingoli is working his ticket, and has probably succeeded. Sack him, sign a proper left sided defender, and concentrate on the task ahead. Starting with smashing the Icelandic Champions next Tuesday.

Jim. Bang on
This is from Paul The Tim.
Not the first time he’s broke the rules “We have been bitterly, sorely let down by the selfish actions of one individual. He came back from Paris on a commercial flight. We gave him an extra night and he had to isolate for a couple of days and missed the Hibs game pre-season.
For me, that does it, a second offence, he’s a goner, he knew exactly what he was doing, he just didn’t give a damn.
I still think why the need for 2 days off, the players are supposed to be in their bubble, what were they going to do, he could have given usual one day off and had the in next day, just for light work, shaping or remedial stuff, they need it.

We now have too many games it will catch up with us.
Lenny has to make a decision and fast, here’s mine.
If we achieve a quadruple treble that is incredible, we don’t need 5 consecutive trebles, we do need 10, though.
So, give up on the league cup, this season, squad and youth players only.
That will give senior players a needed rest and if we are knocked out, it will free up some dates and who know squad and youth, may be good enough, anyway.

I think there will be a few schedules of Saturday,Tuesday,Thursday,Sunday IF we get that far.

M6bhoy

Is it true that Bolingoli headed back to his home in Glasgow when he found out he wasn’t in the squad for a match at Rugby Park last season? If that did happen, you have to ask why he was still in the first team squad this season.

jimthetim53

M6bhoy, I heard that. He wouldn’t even sit in the stand! Who the hell does he think he is?

M6bhoy

jimthetim53, Cheers for response and I have heard this story from many different sources. If he didn’t stay with the rest of the squad and made his own way home before the match started, you have to ask questions about any manager that would allow any player who would do that to remain in the squad after that. Leaving aside the fact that Bolingoli is a complete dud ( and I remember watching his first game and saying to my son, “I hope we kept the receipt…”), no player should be allowed to disrespect his manager like this and expect to get away with it. Like I say, if if did happen but sort of explains his actions to ignore Lennon’s instructions about not going out of Glasgow on his days off though.

McCaff

Who does he think he is….Gary Gillespie!!!
My mate went to an away game to Falkirk back in the day and on the way up to the stadium entrance met Gillespie on the way out! ‘ Awrite, Gary! Wherr are you off to?’ ‘ I’m not playing today do fucked if I’m hanging about!!!’
Prima-feckin-donnas springs to mind!!!

To be honest I don’t know the disciplinary ins and outs of a ‘contracted’ employee compared to more ‘normal’ contracts of employment. The performance related route is usually a/ Verbal warning b/ written warning c/ dismissal. (Simplified). But in cases of gross misconduct it would typically be a/ Suspension b/ Investigation including interviews c/ Decision – Dismissal.

But with contracted footballers it could all be in the minutiae of the contract.

I still strongly suspect it is a ‘sackable’ offence all things considered. I can only assume he has broken the terms of his contract. Otherwise Celtic need new lawyers in the contracts dept.

It was suggested to me late last night that I have a look in on CQN,which in fairness I sometimes do anyway. So I saw this, from a good big pal aka The Mental Dental. If any of you know a gas fitter/engineer,please mail me on

and I will pass on any info.

Thanks

Hi folks this is non-football related. I’m looking for a favour if possible. My son has just qualified as a domestic gas engineer (couldn’t get a job with his engineering degree and retrained) but lacks experience, he has his Gas Safe Card.

Do we have any gas engineers on here who would allow him to shadow them for a period in a bid to get his knowledge up and some experience under his belt? He is presently staying with us in Forres but could easily travel from Glasgow, where his sister lives. Obviously he is not looking for any form of payment if it involves practical experience.

jimthetim53

Just read JohnJames. So my guess about a WAG being involved for an overnight in Spain might be true! The only two things which made ‘sense’ were a WAG or a meeting with another potential club. Maybe both LOL 🙂

Noel Skytrot

Bolingoli’s actions have lead to the editors and journalists * writing for the fish wrappers to have a right go at the club, they’ll have been rubbing their hands and stroking their Macbooks with utter delight when this broke, they hate us and lets not dress it up if something negative is in the mix for us, they’re right on it. I was listening to the song by the Quadrofenians called- Thugs and Thieves the other day, its a pretty solid sumnation of how we are viewed.

I wish they’d just admit it and tell us we should pack our bags – Quadrofenians

(Our worst-ever signing, made all the worse by being the replacement for our best left back in half a century.)
Why?
Simply because he matched our criteria of being young and cheap with potential for resale.
When an accountant is your chief decision maker on recruitment this will be a typical outcome.

Oglach

Biblical floods in the NE last night, 17K lightning strikes recorded in Alba yesterday. Now BT broadband down – tell me it’s going to take 42 hours to sort (WTF). I take it all as a sign that the almighty is not at all pleased with the ongoing shambles at Celtic (his club of choice btw).
Does anyone believe we will sign anybody of worth or a player who falls into that category will want to sign for a club that could possibly see its season curtailed indefinitely? Nah me either

Story I heard was that Bolingoli was visiting his mother in her Malaga holiday home, for a surprise birthday visit. Came from my son.

Garry, if that was true surely he could afford to fly her over to Scotland. Besides if true, Celtic’s PR people would have had that version of events out long before now. Damage limitation etc. Would still be in the wrong btw.

Been in touch with Pog, with a suggestion for his son. Thanks for posting that link to his post on CQN.

Garry, one of the BBC pundits just said Graeme Dott also practices with the gang up in Glasgow (he means Clydebank I presume).

Garry

Have seen Anthony McGill, Alan McManus, Stephen Maguire and John Higgins in Lucky Break snooker club Clydebank practicing on a few occasions. Have never seen wee Dotty.
They would be a good 5 a side snooker team mind you. ??

Do you remember ex Scottish snooker pro John Rea from Clydebank. He is the owner of Lucky Break snooker club Clydebank. A great guy and another good Tim.

Cheers, Garry. I hope all’s well along the road.

Rebus67

Good article, Bobby.

To address some of your points. Why Boli and not other idiots? Well, firstly Boli deserves it. Secondly, let me tell you about a $140 speeding fine in Saskatchewan. There I was scooting along over tge limit because the kids were tired and needed to get to bed. A cop car travelling towards me, saw me and turned round. Lights, camera, action…….$140 cheque signed off. I said, “Why me? Others were going faster!” He said, “when you go fishing, you do not expect to catch all the fish, do you?”

Never forgot that and I try to get value for money when I can!

The club are smart and taking their time over action……and I am sure there will be action. The real issue is how and when Boli will leave the club, not if. If he is cut adrift, he WILL find another club, and bet a nice signing on fee. Better to try and recoup some of the 3 million wasted on him.

Questions do need to be asked about how he was scouted. As you say, from day 1 he was a disaster. The issue is broader than Boli……..Bayo, Shved and Boerighter also come to mind. Oops, Amido Balde, Bangura and, perhaps, Rasmussen should be added. Pay peanuts, get monkeys!

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM, came out the dentists this morning and my tyre had gone down again even after putting the glue in ,phoned a mobile tyre fitter and he met me at the house when i got home, took the tyre off and there was a small screw stuck in the tyre, there is your problem he said and if you had not put that white stuff in your tyre i could have fixed it for a tenner instead of 70 quid for a new one, i was beelin, anyway he hears my accent which are you he says celtic or rangers, listen mate do i look like a hun he started laughing, then says what the feck was that bolingoli doing going to spain for one night what an a—–e, you took the words right out of my mouth, he is the talk of englandshire ?

Noel Skytrot

Following on from my earlier comment regarding how the media despise us, I see Gordon Smith stating that if clubs breach the Covid regulations they should possibly forfeit the three points. I never heard a thing from this clown when it was Aberdeen in the firing line, but when its us he’s spouting his shite, unbelievable when you take into account that he was involved in a criminal conspiracy when the huns imploded. Only in Scotland.

Mahe

Good morning troops.
God Bless all those with health issues plus those less fortunate than ourselves.

Only a public flogging can settle this now, it’s gone that far. Fork did we let Johnny Hayes go for?
A signing will focus the fans, surprised it’s not happened yet.

Mahe, Packy has got health issues. He went to the dentists today and got a flat tyre. Wee soul.

Jim I always catch up in the morning first before posting.

A flat tyre? Why not change the wheel? If no wheel go to scrap yard and buy one for peace of mind.
Weve a flat battery in wife’s car needs removed, brought to shop, and reinstalled.

Changing house colour from eggshell to green with white trim believe it or not!
Two weeks time we move out for a week to let them get her done. Trump paid for half.

Ok, gotta roll. Look out for the fuzz, cuz.

Mahe that’s the first good thing I’ve ever heard about Trump! I take it it’s one of these schemes to get the economy going again. Like eat out to help out.

jimthetim53

Not in a bad way Packy. If you didn’t laugh at your car sometimes you’d cry!

Mike in Toronto

Remember when Celtic signed Mo Bangura? The official story was that he was recommended by Henrik Larsson, but there were rumors was that they had meant to sign his strike partner (cant remember his name now), and that Celtic had signed the wrong striker by mistake.

We all know about the striker Romelo Lukaku … the Belgian striker who now plays for Inter Milan, and used to play for Man United. But did you know that his name is actually Romelo Lukaku BOLINGOLI (I shit you not), and he is the cousin of Celtic’s Boli.

Does anyone else think that, maybe, the numbnuts that run our club thought that they were signing the Belgian striker, and only later realized that they had signed a (sort of) left back instead?

🙂

jimthetim53

Mike, totally believable!

big packy

JIM i forgive you , for your penance, 5 hail marys 2 our fathers and a good act of contrition, how does that sound,? do you want to hear the kelvin hall story or not, ive got a waiting list hear of people wanting to hear this true story??

Rebus67

MIT,

Not very likely! Lukaku never played for Rapid Vienna and presumably Celtic mgmt knew that they were in Austria rather than Italy or England.

It is more likely they were trying to sign Roger Lukaku, 53, by enticing him out of retirement ?

Rebus

Rebus67

MIT,

I think that I see the family resemblance between Boli and Lukaku. Boli looks very like Lukaku’s left leg…perhaps, a little taller!
