Not a season for the faint hearted

During the off season a discussion with a friend and fellow Tim convinced me to switch my stance for this campaign.

Firstly it was pointed out that what has seemed like a never ending cycle of board bashing was likely to fall on deaf ears for this special campaign, or grab little attention among a fanbase obsessed with a common goal, the next game.

Secondly, that the fans probably deserve to be left alone solely with the league to focus on and no plans or plots should distract from a season that will surely live long in the memory no matter what happens. Our big years tend to get viewed, memorized, and reminisced to death after the fact, like Seville I guess.

Thirdly, the chap was insistent that no matter how much sense you spoke or what you said, the heightened tensions surrounded this tenth campaign, which many thought they would never see let’s face it, would bring many Tim’s to throw reason and rationale out the window through their nervousness, and that ‘phenomenon’ would only increase as the title race got tighter.

All three of these reasons have lead to a purely football approach from myself these days but recent days have shown just how true that third prediction would become, uncannily foreseen by a bright mind.

The above table shows that as of right now we are outperforming the last three title winning teams in every possible way, yet you wouldnt know it by perusing Celtic cyberspace.

If told the strikers are numerically the best we’ve had at this stage for five years would you have agreed or queried the fact?
Similarly would you easily accept the true fact that if unbeaten at this stage of the season we go on to win the league every single time under Lenny?
Despite our points tally at this stage only being equaled once over the last decade can we appreciate the fact we are in a great position which could be bettered only by being absolutely perfect?

At the weekend our manager threw his own little jab back regarding those detracting Broonie after our captain had a good game in the Hoops.
It shows that social media is getting viewed and can get under the skin, which Neil might have wished to keep private.

But that’s not to say he doesnt have a point, whether you agree with little digs at the support or not.
He will know and see the above table, and surely it will give him reassurance that we as a team are on the right track for this title defence of all title defences.

We just had the first game of our mini block of five go well, and as shown are we on track domestically. Pushing Sarajevo aside wont be easy I imagine, but should the team manage it that should only further cement the fact we are nowhere near as bad a team as some would have you believe.
And it would also point to the fact that alongside this league points haul which is impressive and usually a precursor to victory, our manager and team have their affairs in hand and under control.

Most of us would agree the team hasn’t really found its feet yet, and there’s further disruption on the horizon with Eddys future unclear, Ajeti injured, and a new left back admittedly being sought. If I had given you that option before the season began to be in this position, unbeaten in the first eight games whilst statistically our best form in five years, you would no doubt have accepted it. So would Neil, so would the team.

Plus if this is where we are at while finding our feet, what will we look like when we hit stride? Perhaps it’s that very point that is striking fear into our rivals, for eight games is just under quarter of the season played and still with all their woes the mighty Glasgow Celtic are unbeaten and on target.

As fans we are all invested, sometimes far too much, but Lenny would be quite correct in asking for some breathing space considering these stats.
The league is going according to plan, despite squad upheaval, despite losing the twelfth man, and despite all the pressures this one campaign brings.
This should be recognized.

Keep the faith and let’s watch our bhoys continue stacking up points hopefully remaining unbeaten as we emerge from this mini block of games. If they don’t, the support can and will question but everytime they do is one step closer to the Holy Grail.
Lenny can sort out the men for the ten, but he just can’t sort out the nail biters, especially this year.

Why has no one questioned the referee s .
If the ball hits the referee the rules state .
A drop ball.
Or the team that kicked it gets it back.
Twice a Celtic player has kicked the ball and it hit the ref, he gave the award to our opponents.
We should be speaking out about it. (I mean the leaders of our club when I say we ).

Thanks for your article, Mage. A good read.
We are apprehensive, I think, on 3 fronts at present. Firstly, the pandemic. Are my loved ones safe? Next, who are we gonna lose in the window? And third, the gnawing ache of the ten. It would be some body blow for us if we don’t win the ten that our nerves sometimes get us into panic mode. That’s not to deny the weaknesses in the team, or the management structure, or everyone’s right to opine on them.
But there’s no doubt that the stylish win on Sunday has definitely calmed the nerves.
A solid performance on Thursday, please, Celtic.

Good Sober analysis of what is going on Between the team and the internet fans. We thought that after they were in administration then bankruptcy that the league was there for the taking for as long as we wanted it. The guardians of our club decided not to go for cheated league pennant s and cups that should have been withdrawn from the cheating team. This gave them enough air to reconstruct and claim they were the same team and going for 55.
If we get 10 in a row they will crumble again into the debt pit as before
That’s why we are all on edge, we know 10 is fatal and We also know they are getting extra help to avoid us getting 10
We want to know that the guardians of our club are with us this time
Well are they?

I’ve been rattling on about this for a while how some of the supporters on social media are crazy. I know we all like to express our opinions on the team, tactics etc but its remarkable how many on these sites who have no experience whatsoever of football management, transform into football managers, coaches, fitness and injury experts and psychologists etc I know we’re fanatical but some are just spouting nonsense.

A thing of beauty

Positive article from your self mahe. I understand why you are keen to point out the form as the stats don’t lie but it does not take into account the teams we have played. We haven’t played sevco which we ordinarily would by this time any other season. We also haven’t played Aberdeen. The next biggest challenge was hibs who we beat convincingly but again at home. I would suggest if the Huns had been handed the fixtures we have for our first eight games we’d be screaming about a conspiracy to let them get points on the board.
We also know from our own eyes that we have struggle in all parts of the field. To not discuss these issues on a football blog would be plain stupid. Why would you not discuss the issues the team are clearly having? We have known for years we need a left sided centre half and we haven’t bought one. Do we just ignore that and say how well kris Ajer is playing when he is clearly not cut out for that position? Same goes for brown in midfield who has clearly struggled. Again to say he hasn’t is plain stupid. Take Christie, we all know he’s playing for himself a lot of the time. Nothing wrong with saying it. Up front we’ve got a striker who is either not fit or not interested. Shall we just pretend we’re imagining that he’s been rubbish since the season restarted?
As for the manager. He has been telling us we’ve been brilliant when we clearly haven’t. When we did actually play well on Sunday he elevated the performance to the one of the best in his time. Really? A perfunctory home win against a team with about a tenth of our budget.
I know this is a strange season but it doesn’t mean that we have all lost our marbles. I will get behind the team but I won’t happy clap and say everything is great when we are clearly not.

I pointed that out on Sunday. McLean knows the rules yet blithely ignored that one. As he did plenty of others when it suited him.

Morning bhoys
A good result and performance on Sunday, onwards.and upwards to the 10.

Ajer looked solid enough in the role when he first came into the team, and seemed to be improving with virtually every game. That’s certainly not the case now. And I think you’ll get your wish of a rested Broonie on Sunday,as he is a booking away from a suspension.

I mentioned in yesterday’s article that Hibs were our strongest opponents to date this season, but remember that is down to the Aberdeen game being postponed. I wish we had played them then,as they have significantly improved since. Your points about Eddie and Christie are merely opinions, but that’s definitely how I see it too, sadly.

Thanks for your kind wishes from last night. New job is going well, apart from my body feeling the pain of physical exertion, after 6 months idle.

Lack of recent exercise and being mid 50s is showing on me. This is my 5th shift. Getting easier every day, and is good for body and mind after 6 months lockdown. Praying that you get sorted soon too mate.

Been saying it since the beginning of the season, I really don’t care much for performance, I only care about winning!

Neil’s record is incredible in every way, though you wouldn’t know it reading some of the pish written about him.

NFL: 79 games as manager, with only 3! Domestic reversals, along with an 80% win rate!

Big Audio Dynamite

Congratulations Garry 👍

In reality, yup I know the land we fear to tread, Saturday’s performance is no more indicative of the title’s destination than v Riga.

I heard NL give an explanation for the Riga performance that was close to one I’d expressed on here a day or 2 before NL spoke.

Basically we had to limit Riga’s goal scoring opportunities to the minimum by denying them the ball in a one off game of high importance.

Now if he repeats that approach and so perception of performance but gets a win, will our anxiety levels, title wise, rise or fall? If we lose anxiety will be expressed in anger.

One game at a time folks. Enjoy what is and dont fret about what isnt (says me fretting over the lack of truth and accountability. Thus proving it’s not easy to practice what we preach) but it is a habit worth trying to cultivate.

We just do not know for certain what anything means yet we desperately search for meaning to give us a sense of assurance.

Ach a story.

A guy falls over a cliff edge but grabs the root of a tree to save him plunging to (in his mind but with good reason.) certain death.

He cries out to God to save him.

” I’ll do anything you ask of me God if you save me” he cries.

The clouds part (they always do when God turns up) and God says. ” You’ll do anything I ask? Anything?”

“Yes” the desperate man cries.

“Ok” says God.

“Let go”

So according to some of the replies we should not post opinions on blogs where they could refute very same opinions but choose to attack the posters instead?
No blogger/supporters opinion is ever taken into consideration or acted upon by the club.
Just ask the Resolution 12 bhoys.
CQN tactics of attacking posters of different opinion rather than debating.
Not for me.

the Club should step in and make the game available to Celtic TV subscribers, and to VST Holders

jimthetim53

Packy, you sparked off a good number of posts on CQN last night on a couple of points, well done! All interesting and polite too!
Just for the record, I and my family & friends always said Parkhead rather than Celtic Park back in the 60s & 70s. I now say Celtic Park. Can’t remember when that started. But I prefer it to be honest.. Although don’t mind when people refer to it as Parkhead. 🙂

big packy

jimthetim53

Celtic Park is an exclusive location name. Whereas Parkhead can refer to the stadium but also the locale.

jimthetim53

Had a terrible nights sleep. Was up at 4.30 am. Back to bed at 7am. Up at mid day. Going down to the pub later for a wee while. A pal texted to say he his bringing me some of his home made curry. Yum yum.

B.A.D. When I left school at 15, my first job, I was taking a delivery in and the Glaswegian lorry driver said “Alright Jimmy?” I asked my boss, how does he know my name?

Big Audio Dynamite

When I was a kid growing up in Brigton, if you didn’t know an older guys name, you said mister or Jimmy, even though their name was probably William or Billy! They didn’t seem to mind Jimmy.
