Hmmm,,,

Morning,all.

My partner in crime,MAHE,told us on Saturday how much the next five games could mean to us in what we all hope will be an historic season.

He was bang on then, and he is still bang on now. This is a season that few who saw us doing the original nine ever dreamed of-after all,it was unprecedented. When the huns tried it,could any of us have dreamed of being in such a position a few decades later?

I know I couldn’t. I just wanted to win just once,as The Saw Doctors sang. Winning just once gets most of us through some bad times in life, and it sure as hell did in 1998.

So,will losing just once destroy us? Hmmm,naw-but it will piss us off. But it’s maybe too late to worry about the reasons why IF it happens. Nothing worse than some eejit who has never been right looking back and saying-Told ya so. So far,the Cassandras have maybe been right in the symptoms but way wrong in the final diagnosis.

The patient is thriving, against all the odds.

So MAHE told us on Saturday how much the next five games meant to us,how much those five games could define our season. And he was correct then, and he is now. We got off to a flier with perhaps our best performance of the season,a game which many of us viewed beforehand with some trepidation.

CalMac eased the fears after eight minutes, but I know better than to count my chickens. Been there. But,honestly? Hibs hardly had a look in,and we bossed that quite severely. It was a very impressive display, and both teams deserve the credit for an excellent game,as Hibs had to play on the front foot looking for an equaliser.

So five games and one down? Well, yes. But I think it’s equally likely that the five days from our next match tomorrow could be just as defining. If we win against Sarajevo,we are into the Europa League group stages-very much the poor relation, aye, but better than a poke in the eye wi a sharp stick. And with a couple of League wins against St Johnstone and the huns,it would put us well on track for that ten.

The fifth game,of course,is a throwback from last season as we continue our quest for another Treble. Can’t wait,to be honest. I’ve only seen one Treble in my lifetime prior to this one, being a tad too young in 1969. But the pain of my friends in 2001 made it all worthwhile, trust me. I’m like that.

So,my point? Five games to put a marker down for the season? Surely that’s been covered, and very well indeed by MAHE on Saturday. And indeed it has,but Thursday is also the first of the last five days till the end of the transfer window. And these are very unusual times,so unusual in fact that I won’t criticise any sales. Any player with less than two years left on his contract is up for grabs, and that has long been the case if they don’t sign a new contract. We can’t afford another Boyata situation because of a pissing competition, and I don’t care whether it’s between PL and the manager or PL and an agent. If a player wants to leave,or refuses to sign a new contract, punt him.

Few have left us over the years and gone on to better things. None has been irreplaceable. I’ll give you Henrik on that one, btw, but there was and is only one Henrik. There’s none in our team like that now.

Five days, our future in Europe this season and a notoriously difficult fixture in Perth, followed by the last day of the transfer window. Many of our players have been talked out of the door by the SMSM but how many have left? The same SMSM have been trying desperately to flog the garbage from Ibrox, but for different reasons, and with vastly different valuations.

Morelos is worth more than Edouard, anyone?

Well,at the moment, neither of them is worth a monkey’s. Morelos is a long-time sulk, thinks he has been there and done it,should be playing for Real Madrid or whoever because the SMSM were bullied or cajoled into saying it. It cost them a few salary increases, the law of unintended consequences. I’m not sure if Eddie is in a sulk at the moment, because prior to now he has never given us less than 100%-and I remember telling everyone on CQN in October of his loan season that we should just sign him now.

He is a great player. He was then, has been since, and will only improve. He is still only 22yo,after all. But if his heart isn’t in it,hmmm… same for Ryan Christie, who has stopped playing for the team,IMO,and also for Ajer who will never be as good as his agent thinks he is.

Tomorrow is crucial for us,and so is the three points in Perth on Sunday. The following day? Maybe not so much, because those three points are probably more important to our season than those three players will be the following day.

Remember we used to get Twisty posting about now?

Margaret McGill

What happened to Twisty?

Margaret McGill

jimthetim53
let me paraphrase the question.
What happened to Twisty?

Uber Tim who is STILL Neil Lennon

Morning JtT, and aul Mags.

Just peaking in as usual.

Am sure Twists will be back. Sometimes good fellas like that need a break from the internet, innit.

Hope ou’re keeping well big Jim.

I’ve been researching how to fold 7 foot men into hackneys and they tell me, that best advice is, to avoid the need to fold them into taxis.

I don’t know if that means avoid taxis, or find a bigger taxi.

I’ll go with the latter. 😁

In all seriousness, as we approach lockdown 2, just mind, I’m not far away if you need anything. BMCUW will kindly give you my email.

My fee will be 6 bog rolls to the pound. 😁

Is this bloody game tomorrow getting televised or what btw ???

Uber Tim who is STILL Neil Lennon

BMCUW,.
All fair and wise points as usual.

I rarely can disagree with you on anything.

Tomorrow is a massive game.

If you follow our Euro adventures over the last 10 years, we are weak as f in the qualifiers (insert bizarre risk management strategy here).

Now it’s the norm.

Premier Sports must love this strategy. They are guaranteed euro games from a massive subscription support.

Then, true to from, and for me, this is where Lenny is massively let down by the support, he always gets it sorted.
And he does it relatively quickly, no matter how frustrating it is to us.
Posterity will show he has been the best manager we have had since MON.

He’ll deliver the result tomorrow night. It might be ugly, it might be beautiful, but he will do it.

Like me, he see’s our place as competing in Europe, not concentrating our time on a fanny of a league, fucked up by corruption and uselessness that even UEFA find embarrassing.

10 in a row means fk all to me.
It’s an unnecessary stupid pressure put on the team, while also giving opposition huns a fire up their arse to work harder, which they are clearly now using to their benefit, along with their Bobby Madden penalty mad hun referees.. It’s a digging of our own grave, for something that is essentially worthless now.

F#ck this league in a ruined football environment. Jock saved these cunts and made us leaders in world football. How did they respond?? They financed the.huns to incredible corrupt lengths, so much that Murray borrowed £1000 Million pounds, and the tax payer ended up funding it, and he walked away scot free,a hero, and they still obfuscste about it.

Feck this league. Europe is where we belong. NL gets this imo. Me too.

Try explaining that to the abbacus-managing, self-PR specialist accountant, though 🤦‍♂️
And sadly, the supporters that let the usual media get them worked up about it, and making us a competitor with some stupid Sevvie crowd.

Noel Skytrot

The next game against Sarajevo could be one of those turgid, fighting for everything jobs or we just wallop them. One game at a time and lets see where we are. Reading back on some of the last blogs comments about where we watch football. I’ve always personally called it Parkheid, but heard others calling it Parkhead, Celtic Park, CP, the Holy Ground and Paradise.

I’ve never heard it being called Parkers and if I did, they would get pelters. That sounds like a word someone living in Glasgow’s West End would use. Probably by a guy named Gavin or Cameron who drinks twenty quid coffees and gets loaves from a granary, fuck off.

A thing of beauty

Noel,
Thanks for the laugh this morning. Parkers indeed😡😡
Bmcuwp is right in my opinion. If players, Eddie included, don’t want to sign and have less than two years left they need to be punted. These are strange times and we need to ensure we don’t end up in financial peril. Also the manager himself said he was fed up with players who don’t want to be here. Thanks and goodbye would be my motto.
On another note. I am now convinced having listened and watched the debate around the sevco penalties at the weekend that this is their new tactic. Both Of their players ducked out the way of a fast moving ball meaning the defender is set for them making contact and has his body in position to allow for this. They duck, ball hits hand, MIB does the rest. Utmost sleekitry and nothing less than you’d expect.

A thing of beauty

Oh and special mention for twists. Missed greatly by me. Loved his chat in the mornings about visiting his mum and her feeding the birds. As well as the chat about the footy of course.

JimmynotPaul

Noel/ATOB
Parkers is definitely a thing.
There was a survey on Twitter asking the question what do you call the home of Celtic Park?
Parkers was one of 4 options and received 9%.
The others were Celtic Park, Parkhead and Paradise.
I think a lot of the young team call it that, I’m sure it’s to wind up and annoy old timers, like me.

Noel Skytrot @ 7:15 am

LOL 🤣. Indeed keep the Finlay’s and Cameron’s away from Celtic Park. Sure Billy Connolly did a piece when he ripped the pish out of Scottish people with surnames as first names😆

jimthetim53

Mags, Uber, sorry for not replying earlier. I went back to my kip after I posted at 5.22am.

Uber good to see you posting again, I hope you are well pal. Mind and be at the next hoot – whenever that will be – in case I need help to get home! 🙂

A very powerful letter sent to the SFA by Joe O’Rourke on behalf of the CSA.

Will he even get a reply?

Lenny press conference today. – https://youtu.be/z1GcxOWtxlo

Awe Naw

I thought Joe O’Rourke’s letter was utter pish.

Did Joe not notice the commonwealth games of 2014 ? Now that’s an establishment club no debate.
The scheduling for the SC is the exact same as the scheduling for the SPFL and with Celtic’s full blessing. English armchair fans come first. No wonder Res 12 got nowhere with that lot.

Awe Naw

jimthetim53

Awe Naw, you’re a hard man to please! There was more relevance than not in Joe’s letter.

JimmynotPaul

Awe Naw. 14.22.
I agree its all over the place.
Joe is complaining about another Sunday semi final.
I don’t think he’s thought that one through.
Look at the Europa dates.
Match day 2 is 29/10/20,
Group stage
22/10/2020 Matchday 1
29/10/2020 Matchday 2
05/11/2020 Matchday 3
26/11/2020 Matchday 4
03/12/2020 Matchday 5
10/12/2020 Matchday 6.
If we qualify, it would mean we would have to play Thursday then a cup semi final on the Sat, so obviously on this occasion Sun is better.
SEMI-FINAL SCHEDULE

Saturday, 31 October | Hearts v Hibernian | Kick-off 5pm | Live on BBC Scotland and Premier Sports

Sunday, 1 November | Celtic v Aberdeen| Kick-off 2.30pm | Live on Premier Sports

you guys are easy to please is more to the point… shooting fish in a bowl is how the likes of Maxwell and Lawwell must feel about it.

Does Joe want these expensive transfers ? does he want 3m pound bonuses ? .. aye he does so go away and stop fucking bleating about it.

Awe Naw

JNP,

Hopefully he is only representing himself.

Awe Naw

JNP,

aye Europa money as well as English armchair subscriptions if we win.

VST holders should be seen and not heard 🙂

Mahe

Good morning folks and happy Wodens day.

Jim theres real questions need asked of the SFA over that.
On Joe, I thought his role on paper is club customer affairs but he seems to have decided to fight battles that the club should be fighting.
I reckon you know who loves it.

Hail Hail

Big Audio Dynamite

Hopefully, the way Lenny is speaking, the club are serious about trying to keep our better players till the end of this window.

Also hope he has a 6′ 2″ , athletic LB up his sleeve! The idea of playing Taylor the whole season, doesn’t fill me with the joys of Christmas.

Eddy is simply vital to anything we want to achieve this year …selling him now would be insanity.

Mahe

BMCUWP ,
You’re very correct to point out that the five transfer market days are very important
I dont wanna lose Kris.
Could live with Tam and Ncham but not Kris.
Connell on loan a maybe but prefer another SPL team so we have sense of perspective around his performances. Hibs would suit me.

Bit worried about Mikey Johnson, not sure he fits our style. Up and down the left wing all night defending strongly as well as attacking,, nah.
Probably behind Taylor and Mo out there.
2nd striker might be his only chance, but that chance may never come.
Where for art thou Mikey.

Hail Hail

” same for Ryan Christie, who has stopped playing for the team,”

Really? From memory. Through pass after one controlling touch to put Ajeti through v M’well, great long pass to send Frimpers clear to lay on goal for Elyanoussi v Riga , puts McGregor in clear to score v Hibs then involved in second goal with great footwork in the box. Never stops running and not afraid to shoot (although not his strongest attribute).

What have the Romans ever done for us?

I’m not on the Ajer bandwagon either. He is prone to error which seems to be an attribute for a Celtic defender but I do not see lack of effort and I think he will improve as he matures.

The lack of forward planning, year after year, for the most lucrative money,is gross negligence, October tomorrow, and still fannying about for a left back.

Ryan’s defence splitting pass to Frimpong in Riga, that led to our goal, was brilliant. One of many great passes he has made this season. He also still looks like he is working hard. Outside of some wayward shooting, I thought he was playing well.

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM, the builder who is doing our grooming garage /room /pod , dont know what to call it, just said to me in about 6 weeks time if we have a storm and your roof tiles blow off, you wont be able to get any, zilch in the whole country, dont know if he just means england and wales, true story

Cosy Corner Bhoy

Re Christie Team Player/Glory Seeker….Obviously like most other things, a matter of opinion.
Mine is that someone who has a shot from whatever distance rather than a pass is the latter.
The odds on actually netting from distance even without a keeper are far greater than a pass being executed. My observation is that Ryan chooses the more difficult option in a ratio of about 2-1 which amplifies the problem.
I fully accept the wonderful shots he nets but like his corners they are rare in comparison to the mediocrity which occurs more often.
A personal bugbear for me is that he is the cornerkick man for both sides which I can’t fathom at all. Does my nut!
My conclusion is Glory Seeker, but I’ll still jump up like a numpty if it’s in the net!

I hope we are not about to experience a cruel irony after our Sarajevo experience tomorrow. Last night our old friends, Ferencvaros broke a 25 year hoodoo and qualified for the CL Group Stage. After eliminating us they faced Dinamo Zagreb in a one-off tie. Their playoff game was an easier affair against Molde. The magnitude of their achievement can be measured, in part, by looking at the relative values of the squads of the above teams.
Dinamo are valued at 75 million euros whereas Ferencvaros are valued at one third of that. In the playoff their opponents, Molde should have been easy meat after their triumphs against Celtic and Dinamo. The Molde squad was valued at one half of that of the Hungarians. In the first leg away to Molde the final score was 3-3, and the Hungarians held on in their home tie to record a 0-0 draw.
After the first leg against Molde, the Hungarians were in a very strong position, having scored 3 away goals. All Ferencvaros had to do was avoid defeat at home and they did so by shutting up shop and limiting Molde to 1 or 2 shots on goal. It might not have been pretty to watch but the rewards far exceed the aesthetics. It was not easy for the Hungarians but sound tactics and superb effort by the players got them through to the riches of the CL.
Last season, Ferencvaros performed quite well in the Europa Group round, finishing third in a group consisting of Espanyol, CSKA Moscow and Ludogorets. Of note, they only lost one match, and performed well when away from home. Of course, this season they have progressed substantially by qualifying for the CL Group Stage. Congrats to them. They will need their increased revenue to re-build next season because they will probably lose their manager and their best players.
I take a lot of hope from the Hungarians’ performance. This season they have shown what can be done with modest playing resources and sound tactical experience from a coach. I wish them well, not least, because they are carrying the green and white into the CL.

JIM ,if your lurking true story, 1964 last year at our lady and st josephs, was in the cub scouts the 3rd coatbridge, it was the christmas party we all had to bring a girlfriend ,there were 3 of us in class that were cub scouts, myself ,jim cunningham and peter mcpake, they had got their girlfriends, there was a girl called mary bradley, long blonde hair lovely looking girl, i plucked up the courage to ask her she said ok, we all arranged to meet at the bus stop to coatbridge at 6-30, 6-00 clock comes and i say to myself whats the point, she will never turn up, so i went out playing football ,the next day at school ,mcpake and cunningham say to me ,what happened to you, mary was at the bus stop with us and you didnt turn up, she was crying her eyes out, good god jim i felt terrible i honestly thought she would not turn up,, now she lived 3 doors away from my aunt bella ,and her mother also called mary knew i went there every day, after school, she must have been watching me going in ,knock at the door my aunt bella answers, come in mary, she looks at me, bella do you this boy gave my lassie a dissy, now i cant remember if it was dissy or riddy, is that an old scottish word for your a plonker 😍,the older ghuys on here like solkitts and bmcuw and mcaff may know, another true story.😍

From Wikipedia

In 1945, the Kennedy family gave the castle and its grounds to the National Trust for Scotland (thus avoiding inheritance tax). In doing so, they stipulated that the apartment at the top of the castle be given to General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower in recognition of his role as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during the Second World War. The General first visited Culzean Castle in 1946 and stayed there four times, including once while President of the United States.

CL Qualifier

FC Midtjylland 4 v Slavia Prague 1

Slavia were 1 up and cruising. Lost an equaliser on 65 mins.
An absolutely shocking 2nd via a twice taken pen due to VAR and goalie off his line.
Collapsed losing two late goals.

I would expect Slavia to complain re ref and VAR to no avail.

Also watched Ferencvaros last night, very fortunate to get thru, Molde missed some absolute sitters.

This qualifying ain’t easy and, both will struggle.

CALTONTONGUES

Aye,but there aren’t many mugs left when we get down to the final qualifier. Or even,as we proved in the rounds before that!

The top leagues being guaranteed four spots each has wrecked it for the smaller nations. It’s little more than a lottery now.
