Finally

t’s only really now from today onward that the season has finally and firmly begun in earnest for many a player and manager.
That window tends to distract the unfocused, uncertainty hovers over every club until the official slamming shut, and today while we will be happy with our business there’s fans out there will be crying into their cornflakes this morning having lost their star for less than what the support deem acceptable.
Commiserations.

Although the wished for left sided centre back never arrived we did manage to bag ourselves a player that looks a bit of a coup on paper to be honest.
Diego Laxalt will take over the left flank and replace Greg Taylor no doubt, and I think its fair to say we have got ourselves and upgrade here folks.
The chap certainly wanted to come, always a bonus, plus he was a closet admirer who woulda thunk it.
Lenny will be delighted with this upgrade and soon there’s a good chance we will also.

Fiinally here we are, playing pool assembled (easily the best squad in the land) and now begins the task of getting the best from the options available, exactly what the gaffer gets the big bucks for.

Finally we have replaced KT, if only for a season but I don’t think anyone would mind if it helped deliver the big prize.
This should also allow us to vary play on that wing, perhaps begin swinging it in, something that we seem to have moved away from.
A dangerous left winger may also become double teamed just as we are seeing happen to young Jeremy on the other wing, and the gaps that double press leaves can be exploited by a tuned in team.

Finally we know for certain Odsonne will be with us to spearhead this campaign, something I didn’t think would happen myself so I will give a hat tip to the PLC for strongly resisting the temptation to cash in in order to achieve a bigger goal.
In doing so they gain a little respect.
It’s now up to our main man to motivate himself, and ideally fighting for his position will bring out his best side.

Finally ‘our talisman’ or perhaps ‘our lucky charm’ Leigh Griffiths in back in the Hoops with a wee spring in the step, hopefully desperate to bring unprecedented success to the club and more importantly the fanbase that has accepted he is a flawed character, but he’s our flawed character with one hell of a knack for finding the goal just when we need it.
Having the Griff motivated a during would be fantastic, and a success story considering many though his last transgression the last.
This excites me no end.

Finally we see a transfer strategy that has deviated from the plan to reflect the reality of the situation, that we need ready made players for the here and now, not more punts that one in five could be said to succeed. Our signings have been excellent, the correct age group, most from bigger leagues which intrigues, and some of the correct resume, stature amd character to have a positive hopefully inspirational impact upon the dressing room.
Again hat tip to the PLC.

Finally, we are in the position to go on and find some form now to match the points. I know this has been vexing the support bigtime but a team in transition needs to get to know the sum of its parts ie each others strengths and weaknesses before it can truly gel. I could write an article about how we shouldn’t have faced such changes this year but we are where we are and as such must deal with the reality of the situation.
Putting yourself in Lennys shoes he clearly wanted a new left back with more to his game than Greg but has only just got him, only now can begin the training ground routines which will result in goals later in the season.
Plus now he knows Odsonne is staying for sure, making him one half of a partnership like last season will be very tempting.
Now the departures and arrivals have ceased a settled starting eleven should emerge with specialist subs ie closers such as Sorro and Nir plus goal getters like Leigh and Patrik, maybe even Tam Rogic.

Finally, the team have the chance to show me, you, and the world exactly what they are about with the upcoming derby game and lay down a marker. As a support we are hugely varied in our opinions on the team right now with no one camp able to claim success.
The fact we collect the points keeps the glass half full folk going but each discounted performance leaves the glass half empty Tims with more angst and ammunition.
This derby game offers the chance to firmly nail colours to the mast for we all know we wont be considered truly tested until we face them. This despite dispatching two Euro teams that had many worried and a Hibs team that showed its a good outfit by winning against at the weekend, helped by future Celt Nisbet.
A scrappy draw would be the spoiler though, continuing this purgatory of not knowing what type of team we have under the hood, fearing when the question gets asked we get an answer we don’t want.
The current anxiety levels surrounding the footballing department may be considered irrational by some as we are delivering on paper, but with one big statement win we could replace that anxiety with ecstasy, taking the momentum in this historic title race.
It’s an opportunity we should take advantage of.

Finally, enjoy the rest of your day. By Mahe.

Very Good Summation of the Window Mahe,

Totally agree, though I’m not at all sure I’d be patting the backs’ of the Board just yet.

However in…

Ajeti

Barkas

Turnbull

Duffy

Laxalt

We no doubt have had our best window for a while.

We have deviated in strategy and it seems we allowed Nick Hammond to do his job and Lenny a say in who stays and who goes.

Every time Desmond Dermot “interferes” good things happen, NO’N, Brendan Rodgers and this window has his fingerprints all over it.

Let’s hope “moneyball” or at least Celtic PLC’s version of it is dead. The nearest thing we have to a prospect is Turnbull and I think we can all live with this sort of “punt”.

First team ready players was a must, as was players that do what it says on the tin, we’ve got that.

“Finally, we are in the position to go on and find some form now to match the points. I know this has been vexing the support bigtime but a team in transition needs to get to know the sum of its parts ie each others strengths and weaknesses before it can truly gel. Well, after the good news the crux of the matter…

It is of course well worth an article. Firstly this window has nailed the lie that last summer’s window was excellent. It was poor, I said so at the time and got pelters for it, I repeated it at the start of this window and again got pelters for it (not on SC may I add).

This window was challenging, it required deadwood out, first team players in, that’s exactly what’s happened.

Yet you have said it, we are still in transition, a situation that has saw us ejected from the UCL, stutter across the line in UEL qualification and puff and pant our way past SPL mediocrity.

We must now become better than the some of our parts and quickly.

It was a situation I feared, this policy of being just better than Rangers, comforted by the “fact” we can out muscle an improving Rangers financially at any time, was flawed in my book.

In my mind I likened it to us being the supreme long distance athlete who is miles out in front, a competitor starts showing a bit of form – no worries, we have the best sprint finish in the race. Yet on the penultimate lap, the competitor finds a burst of speed, as you approach the bell for the final lap he’s on our shoulder.

What happens now?

Buoyed by his excellent form and superior speed over the last few laps does the adrenaline and momentum take the competitor past us and through the tape?

Or do we up our game, find that other gear, smoothly shifting up the pace to finish the race with a sublime sprint burst?

Not always easy after cruising for serveral laps.

It was never going to be as easy as throwing money at it, when the Rangers appeared.

Still, it’s a challenge we should all enjoy.

Hail Hail

On the face of it, it must be said that the Board have allowed the football side to come first. The fact that it is now rather than even two months earlier when, for some there was more to play for , ie the Big Ears Cup, is a discussion for another day.
Can’t imagine big DD finding the time to include the Celtic in his daily routine of remaining a billionaire, checking his portfolio then the weather for the golf. No matter, the Happy Clapper CCB thanks whoever did this year’s buying and NOT selling. Maybe the theorists of the ‘The Board’s strategy can’t allow us to win ten ‘ will recognise supposition when they see it😁.
Anyway, happy bunny here, but it’s all on paper for the moment, and title fight still to be won.
Always knew the 5th October was a good date…..married 59 years yesterday. What a great pressie from Celtic😁.

A few astonishing things that have to be said.

A great window. Well done the PLC but the question remains why back Neil and not Brendan ?Seems obtuse. A hun challenge I suppose

CCB,

congratulations I hope you are not just remembering 🙂

A thing of beauty

A very good window it has to be said but as the champion of the glass half empty camp I think we will regret not getting a left sided centre half. I really worry about our defence. But then I worry about all sorts of stupid stuff so I’m probably not the best barometer.
If we truly believe we have the best squad, which I am not sure about, it is up to the coaching staff to deliver the ten. Starting 17th October. Though from the way things are looking we’ll not be allowed out our own houses to watch it. Interesting times.

Bmcuw- I got a text from a pal who spoke to someone who works in the Vogue, they’ve been advised not to order stock for next weekend, as pubs will be closed…..

Can’t remember exactly when I said it but I suggested that was likely about three weeks ago. The cops will be raging-I’ll bet they were so looking forward to inspecting every Celtic pub within the first ten minutes of the game and closing them because of social distancing infringements.

I’d say that’s a fair summation of events so far. I also agree with ATHINGOFBEAUTY that we really should have signed a left-sided centre back too. Apart from the fact that we don’t have one,if we want to play three at the back it helps if they are all centre backs in the first place!

At the moment,we have two centre backs, two converted midfielders and a right back to choose from. All right footed too. Far from ideal.

Most professional footballers are two footed and can use both left and right in fact Jullien is better with his left foot than his right

Suggesting a left footed centre back is absolutely outrageous considering the window we have

If Jullien is better with his left foot than his right, why is Ajer-who literally cannot use his left foot to kick a ball or tackle-stuck out there?

No criticism of NL here, bud. Merely pointing out that we don’t have a left-sided centre back in our favoured back three.

Celtic Champs Elect

Good players especially defenders can play anywhere across the back 3 or 4

Celtic Champs Elect

Back in the day in my junior career for the famous Lithgy Rose I was right footed but my left foot was as good as my right and I played left back both for my juvenile team and junior team so I see no reason why any professional defensive player cannot play in any position across the back 4 and as Packy says another true story

Oglach

Failte to our new LB Diego Laxalt. On paper looks to be a great signing – loads of experience playing in top level football both domestic and international. Strangely i find myself with little to moan about with regards to our recent transfer business (pinches self – yup i’m not dreaming) As many have already stated the task of moulding our collection of talented individuals into a cohesive footballing entity must take priority.

Oglach

Seems that Margaret Ferrier is well and truly feck*d. Not only did she travel from Glasgow to London and back while suffering from the Covid virus it has been alleged she attended Mass and gave a reading from the gospel at St Mungos on Sept 27th. No way the Scots will forgive her for being a ‘Fenian’ nationalist, Covid Maggie – might be forgiven – but ‘Fenian Covid Maggie’ – nah🤔🙄

Rebus67

Mahe,

It has, indeed, been a good window for the team. Several weaknesses have been addressed.

I admit to knowing nothing about Laxalt but his pedigree looks good. Is he a LB or a LWB?

More importantly, will he be subject to 14 days quarantine? If so, he will not be available for October 17. Trowing him in for that match may be a bit risky anyway, although Bauer stepped up last season and performed well.

The squad looks strong and lets hope that we can get two or three goals earlier in games to allow youngsters to come on to strut their stuff.

One final thought since “final” seems to be a theme. If we look at some of the incomers….Turnbull, Ajeti, Duffy, and, perhaps Laxalt……..they all have could positioning skills. Turnbull, Ajeti and recent arrival Klimala have good movement and positioning. It is up to the rest of the team to take advantage of that and get the ball to them as they move into space. It would make a world of a difference to our play.

Soro also seems to have this quality.

I hope we use it.

Right time to build a wall in the back,

Diego Laxalt – all i can say if he is 50% as good as the clip alleges then we have some player. Fast, skilful, strong and likes to take on his man. — WOW – could actually have us saying Kieran who?
Of course one has to question why AC are prepared to let him go!

Hope the bhoy adjusts quickly.

Mahe

Good analysis. I think the lack of a real threat from the left had much to do with poor performances.

It created an imbalance and increased circulation from left to right that was so frustrating.

Hopefully the season will run to end and whilst it would be nice to stuff them and put the media gas at a peep, and not turning on the gas at all helps in that respect, it’s a marathon not a sprint, so I would not put too much meaning on to the next game.

Re Jamesy. I thought that our ‘alleged’ interest in Snodgrass may have had something to do with Jamesy’s injury being a long term one. Probably going to be a couple of months before we see him back in the 1st team.

Correct, out of the 3, given their respective market values, only Duffy would be the one we would make a move to sign on a permanent deal – dependant of course on him wishing to stay. That is unless the board have had an epiphany and decided to reinvest all money made from players back into the squad. Could Eddy leaving (Jan / summer 2021) pay for Diego, Shane and Mo staying? 🤔

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM, what a day, had the police here twice today, the workmen are putting up a new fence next to the garage ,the psycho neighbour started throwing water over them and shouting abuse, next thing she shouts to one of them hey why dont you get back to where you came from, the guy is an indian chap, he said to her where do you come from, she said liverpool, then why dont you get back to where you come, from,,why she said dont you like scousers, he said no😍 next thing she pinches the keys out of the workmans van and would not give them back,,another true story, and we have tomorrow to come yet😍😍
