Use the sheep as a springboard

Rest in Peace Ebbe Skovdahl “Statistics are like mini-skirts, they give you good ideas but hide the most important things”

The good man had a point but there’s no hiding the statistic that a defeat tomorrow would be the third in a row, something most unCelticlike. And with a midweek trip to a Lille team who are on a hot streak meaning victory is unlikely, tomorrow offers the chance to avoid four reverses on the trot, something that no matter the manager is bound to lead to calls for change.

One small blessing could be the fact there’s no crowd tomorrow for some type of tribute to their former manager. The emotional buildup and silence generally only serves to fire up the home side in my experience.
The fact that I don’t want the Dons fired up more than usual kinda tells everything about the side currently.
We are still unsure of what type of side will show up, which on my behalf has now manifested itself in hoping the opposition isn’t motivated more than normal.
A concerning state of affairs.

To be honest I thought some comments surrounding Thursday defeat was harsh. I stated before the game the attitude and application from the players would be my markers, not the result, and from my perspective I did see improvement in those fields.

It started with the gaffer himself who seemed more animated than usual, did actually confer with the coaching staff, and made the maximum of his substitutes, a real bugbear of mine when it comes to Lenny.
We might have got a result, something he admitted and a pleasant surprise, as well as an admission the final ball is often poor and we need to improve on that front.
This shows at least on some level we are all watching the same game which reassures.

However if we are all watching the same game then the coaching staff will change the defensive shape asap.
Only a fool or blind man couldn’t see the three isn’t working or is too easy to counteract these days. Milan certainly has it sussed, which one should expect of the very tactically aware Italians.

The Dons may have less tactics but any half decent team can and will sniff out a weak defence and will pray upon it gladly. The Ajer, Duffy, Welsh backline is not solid, and will be breached by most teams that have some gumption.
To save the season it must be binned, there is little doubt.
Rebus nailed it yesterday,,
“If NL sanctions three at the back on Sunday, he deserves the boot, irrespective of the result” which shows that no matter the reputation, one expectation we all have is to address problem areas.

Tomorrow affords us an opportunity to begin addressing what many feel is our Achilles heel, and if we are going four at the back there’s no time like the present. There’s more than just points at stake on this one, there’s reputations, maybe careers.

I don’t really see the point in attempting a team sheet or prediction, though I would like to see the team and formation that finished against the Italians start the sheep game.
Ronnie Deila’s stint showed that winning isn’t everything, if it was he wouldn’t have came under pressure seeing he was delivering leagues, and on that point scrapping a one nil win would do very little to calm nervous Tims.
It’s a team that is clicking we want to see, a system that brings the best out of our bunch, some fluid attacking play rather than ‘just’ the three points.
That is after all what the Celtic manager is expected to bring to the table.

On our opponents, Johnny Hayes will be fired up (if he plays after hobbling off) as will Dylan who I quite liked as a Hoop but of particular interest to this Irishman will be the performance of Considine. He was absolutely over the moon recently about his International callup, is in the twilight of his career and plays the left side of the defence. Regular readers will know of ATOBs disgust we never ever address this area, could do with someone there now actually, so when ‘a local’ journeyman who knows the league is sitting under your nose for relatively cheap you wonder was he worth a punt.
If Fergusons da was anyone else I would be looking forward to a close up look, no point wasting time.
Derek was asked on the radio could he split the Glasgow giants this season, a sign of weakness on our behalf I admit, and although he didn’t bite I’ve no doubt deep down he would live to pile the pressure on the Lurganman.
I reckon the feeling is mutual btw.

There’s no a person on here doesn’t want Neil Lennon to lift that tenth title, it would be so so sweet. But equally we all realize by now that no one is bigger than the club and it must come first, full stop.
We should be capable of going to Pittodrie and winning, there’s zero question there.
Thats not to say overall we arent confident of victory, but we still aren’t sure which Celtic side will show or in what shape.
That needs to end.
If not it will cost jobs.

And the perfect time to end it is now, domestically, with an opponent we (luckily?) face twice in quick succession. We as a support can put the bigger picture first so a defeat to Lille shouldn’t have us blowing fuses, but a double with style over the Dons would do everyone the world of good.
Make it happen Lenny, then we kick on.

You said it for all of us , we are wishing Celtic to Ten, with Neil Lennon preferably As our manager.Thats good but we have to act fast if it doesn’t happen soon. Neil will always be a legend at Celtic no matter how and when this tenure ends. I was getting Down on MON near the end same with WGS ,RD and was just as fed up with BR and their style of play. Every Manager has a life span then things just don’t click as a Team anymore
We can’t keep a Legend in the Managers seat because he is a Legend Mahe said he noticed Neil was talking more to his assistants, was up yelling and more animated on the sidelines maybe he has perked up and realizes the players need a boot up the backside and also lots of encouragement. Let’s hope it’s a turning point 10 in a row is this generations once in a lifetime moment and at my age highly unlikely to happen again for me

The three isn’t performing the way we would like,on top of which we have too many players in front of them also not playing the way they can. The current three includes a rookie-albeit a promising one-a converted midfielder, and a centre half who isn’t comfortable playing it. Plus we too often defend facing our own goal-which we are bloody awful at!

On top of which,we have a keeper who won’t leave his line and who seems to guess which way an attacker is going to finish. Watch hime,he seems to be on the wrong foot too often. And he seems weak on his right, can’t get down fast enough and seems to dive with his hands in his pockets. I wouldn’t bin him yet,but I’d leave him out till the New Year and get some proper coaching into him.

Play a four for a while, even if we coach the three at Lennoxtown. Play Griff for an hour and bring Paddy on. The Yeti from the start. Ntcham,CalMac central with Christie and Rogic as the forward two of a four.

Might be a big ask for such a lot of changes but the current system is broken. Fix it and use something else in the meantime.

In respect of getting politicians who love football involved I recommend this Scottish Football Supporters Association article just published https://scottishfsa.org/chairmans-blog-23-10-20/ that is talking to politicians.

When SFSA became more public it was at my prompting and help.

It’s been a long road for them for the reasons covered in the article but they are an independent supporters association as opposed to Supporters Direct. who got SFA funding which compromises them.

Probably putting 2 & 2 together to make 5 but perhaps Lenny appearing more animated and interested during the game against AC may just have something to do with the ‘alleged’ bollocking he received from oul DD after Lenny’s teams pathetic effort against Sevco.

Still think Lenny was talking absolute rot post AC game – deserved something from the game🤨! AC had us where they wanted – our shots on goal and AC Keeper saves stats prove it. True we showed more effort than against Sevco but that was about it. Imo, AC were more than happy to let us have the ball in the second half but were, as shown, capable of ripping us a new one when they decided to change up a gear. But tomorrow is the game that matters – a convincing win required to restore a bit of confidence in the squad and support. Absolutely nothing less will do.

Barcelona host Real Madrid today in the first clásico of the season. The clubs have been playing for more than a century but this will be their first game in an empty stadium. Which of the two teams has won more of their 244 competitive fixtures?

I think it’s a draw at the moment. Is it 86 wins each?

There was an article somewhere about it the other day. Maybe ATHINGOFBEAUTY is right, and I do need to get out more!
