Aberdeen 3 – 3 Celtic

Morning,all.

A difficult take yesterday. Was it an improvement or another disaster? Well, the disaster was that we dropped another two points, the improvement was that we scored three goals against a very good side.

Take it which way you like,I thought it was a curate’s egg. Decent up front, dreadful at the back.

Good in parts,in other words.

But guess what? When you leak as easily as we do at the back,it is very difficult for the front guys to actually make up for it. It’s difficult to criticise the lads on the front foot as they all went into every door. They tried, threw the balls in,gave their all going forward. Every one of them, and that includes the midfielders.

Having got ourselves a goal behind,CalMac evened up the scores. That’s what he does. What a player. His minime Ryan should pay attention, but he didn’t kick a ball all day. No sooner level than a goal behind. And sometimes I really do despair.

I suggested on Friday,I think, that certain players needed taking out of the firing line. Well, you all saw the goals today. Shane Duffy will hurt as much as us,but I don’t get paid £25k a week to apologise. This has gone on too long,he has been responsible for about 80% of our goals since he arrived.

The first penalty? Why was Ntcham there in the first place-well,that’s because Frimpers was late on parade. That’s not a 4 at the back when the right back thinks he’s attracted to the opposition box

We were superb at times yesterday-that goal from Griff was outstanding-but until we sort out our defence-good luck with that,Neil-we will win sod all.

Hola fae Dundee!

Friesdorfer

Canny get ma head around the defensive situation at present. Frimpong needs rested, he is being overplayed, and is never a RB anyway. Ajer and Duffy need to play where they are meant to as CBs, we are continually getting caught out with defenders too high up the pitch. It goes against the grain, but don’t concede and you won’t lose, and less likely to draw if you have decent quality players. Onwards to Thursday.

Garry

Our defence is killing us. We don’t have one yet. Crazy

Garry

Why are our Manager, a defensive, holding midfielder, and his assistant manager, an excellent Centre Half, unable to attend to our defensive deficiencies. It is a defensive problem from front to back.

Good morning all and Packy.
Just came on to say I’m getting better, not out of the woods yet but hopefully soon.
Can I say a big thank you for all the best wishes posted? You are a fine bunch of people. I got huge support, daily, from Big Packy via email, a terrific bloke. Likewise Mahe & Bobby. apart from running a fine site you have hearts of gold.

I’ve lurked every day even in the worst days, Thank God for the blog. Even although in the circumstances it was not very happy clappy it was never not interesting!

I’m only easing my way back on but felt i needed to pass on my gratitude.

Take care everyone.

Morning all and especially you Jim the Tim! Glad to see you back posting. Take it easy, a man of your age has to be careful! 😉

Cosy Corner Bhoy

Great to see you back, Jimthe Tim53!
Well done to all who kept up your spirits , with a special mention to big Packy, Mahe and BMCUWP.
To the Don’s game….. Improvement? Sadly not in my eyes. Points-wise yes… the arithmetic tells me that, but, performance hardly at all.
Bain… little to do ..not to blame for goals lost.
Frimpong… can’t do the wing back role..on the wing or on the bench at best
Duffy…. Where is the Duffy we have seen play for ROI and Brighton? A footballing centre back he is not, and I’m sure he knows it. Who asked him and why to be one.. We, that’s us the supporters, thought/knew that’s what we were buying. Possibly having to cover for Frimpong too often but THAT ball should have been put out for a throw.
Ajer…. Pass marks, just.
Laxalt..Thank God for a player… at least till our coaching staff change him.
Nitcham… A good player has got lost somewhere.. Between mince and average.
McGregor. The man is a passer but couldn’t tackle a big breakfast. He has no conception of positioning
himself before effecting said tackle, hence fouls or PENALTIES…
Christie….Every pass is over hit or occasionally under hit
Rogic… The man can’t do a full game so why wait till so late to sub him? Pass marks definitely.
Elyounoussi. Jeezo.. Does he know what he’s trying to do because the rest don’t and therein lies the problem.
Ajeti…. Had to come so far back to look for balls it’s criminal. Why is he brought back for corners? Another signing asked to play differentl
Neil Franci Lennon… A legend in danger of destroying his status. Stand down now when you have the status. For whatever reason the first managerial Lennon has disappeared.
The back room staff are just that…back in the room! I see NO communication between any of them. It’s like no-one wants to suggest something. What do we pay them for.
Still not lost hope for the Ten but that’s because I’m still a Happy Clapper….just. 77 years of it does that to you😁
Hope springs Eternal!

Good to learn your on the mend a chara & HH

CCB. Totally agree, saw little in the way of improvement. True we scored 2 cracking goals but in truth that was it as we were the usual poor caricature of a well organised team for large parts of the game, as we have been for most of this season. Not sure where the solution lies but at the moment Lenny isn’t inspiring any confidence he has the ability to sort out the mess.

Great to see you back posting Jim. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Great summary of where Celtic are, as we approach a tough November.

Hoping to be singing this song on Friday morning!

Send the U19s to Lille get the first team to Lennoxtown, have a greeting meeting, get the issues out in the open, get on to that training pitch, and get a formation coached in to them.

Great idea about the U-19s but we have to pick from the squad we submitted. Personally,I would tell all of our international players that it is unsafe to attend, and use that fortnight to get them drilled.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Btw,still not feeling any better about yesterday’s performance. Yes,it was a vast improvement on the previous week, but there are still too many empty jerseys and liabilities in that team. I will say that none of them are bad players, but the time has come to put whatever they are bitching about behind them.

JIMTHETIM53

Good to have you back, and on the mend too.

HH

Cheers folks, many thanks.

Friesdorfer, Certainly hope it’s not an omen! Maybe Lille will have an ‘off day’ and do us a favour? The ‘Auld Alliance’ and all that! 🙂

bada bing1

Wee Nicola said current Central Belt restrictions, will be the equivalent on Tier 3

Mahe

Great to see Jim the Tim back.
I’ve nothing add, just seen highlights not full game. We can’t be confident of going anywhere and getting the win, still don’t know our best eleven, still starting players who have failed us repeatedly, can’t spend our way out of this, and getting a new manager is zero guarantee.
The ten has been a shitshow right from the jump.
We won’t forget this campaign.
Hail Hail

Lille (A). Aberdeen (N). Sparta league (H). Motherwell (A). Hibs (A). Sparta Prague (A). AC Milan (A). Celtic’s next 7 fixtures. No home game until 6th December.

Oglach

Oh the irony, we sign an Irish international from a EPL team and he has in the main been a disaster waiting to happen in a Celtic strip thus far, we get rid of the very much maligned Jack Hendry on a loan and he is winning plaudits in the Belgium league. Who’d have thunk it!

A thing of beauty

Celtic Champs Elect

JTT hope your feeling better mate

As for the Celtic you take the good with the bad we will still win the Ten and the Quintuple treble

A thing of beauty

So 2 AC Milan players test positive three days after playing is. I am very confident none of our team will have it as they clearly were not close enough all night. Welcome back jim, so glad to hear you’re on the mend.

Jim the tim,

I am not writing this to influence anyone but merely as a statement of one person’s journey with a lost love. Yesterday I cancelled my CelticTV subscription. I had decided to wait and see how the management team responded to the reverses against Milan and Sevco, as well as the struggles to defeat poor opposition. I had decided that I would cancel if we played a back three, irrespective of the result because it would have signaled that nothing had been nor would be learned. To give credit where it is due, NL did start with a back four, but most of the old problems were still present…….a team incapable of playing two halves of decent football, individual errors, uncertainty of roles, and poor game management. So, I am out. Last season, I could see the writing on the wall in key games in Europe and versus Sevco. The trip to Dublin before a crucial game, the game management against Cluj and Copenhagen, the treatment of Mikey Johnson……all combined to give me a concern for poor decision making and a lack of grasp of competitive threats. At one point, last season, I just stopped watching CelticTV broadcasts of games, even though I had paid for them. Withdrawal kicked in and I returned to the fold to see out the season. This season, I subscribed on a monthly basis because, sadly, I felt that the roof would cave in. To my regret, IMHO, the season has been one of severe regression, despite the apparent great transfer window. I accept that leagues are not won in October, but they can certainly be lost! In a season that is likely to be extraordinary, it was important that we established a lead early on because there is a real fear that it will be curtailed. Right from the start, there have been failures. Despite scoring five in the first match, the defence looked fragile with the opposition hitting bar and post and passing up chances to score. The managerial response to this was to give the squad a couple of days off! (at the beginning of the season!) What did this say to the players? Despite playing poorly against weak opposition, you get two days off! The holiday is quickly rewarded with two dropped points versus Kilmarnock plus a lackluster display. Secondly, despite using 352 in the second half of last season and prospering from it, we start this season with 4231. Why? Does it seem rational to you? Performances are dire at the start of the season and the cry goes out, “play two strikers” so eventually there is a switch back to 352….the results of which we saw versus Sevco. In mitigation, we did suffer the loss of two CBs forcing Duffy to play beyond his natural position…….but why try three at the back at this trime?
There is a lot more but it has all been said before. Let me finish by mentioning the Sevco threat. Was it truly a surprise? They have had the influence of Beale for two seasons. Their format of play is well known. They produced in prior games against us and neutered our tactics. All of this was known well in advance and what is our response to counteract it? Nothing, is the answer……la meme chose! Remind me, what is that definition of insanity?
Sorry for the rant, but this hurts. I know what needs to be done but I fear it will not until it is definitely too late. So, all I can do is withdraw my humble pence from the coffers and make my views known.
Some may respond, OK, smart arse, who would you pick to replace the manager? My reply to that, after a lifetime in Marketing, is I am the consumer, it is not my job to design the product that I want to buy. The Marketer identifies the need and develops a product/service to satisfy it, in a mutually beneficial manner. At the moment, all the benefits flow one way…and that is away from the consumer!
