Your Call

Morning,all.

The last couple of articles have brought up a number of unpalatable issues. Quite frankly, the one on Tuesday from ONEMEMBERONEVOTE was hardly the kind of thing anyone wants to read over their cornflakes or porridge in the morning.

It showed in bald detail how we have regressed from a point of supremacy, dropping income by around 40%,and allowing them to catch up to the extent that their income is no longer dwarfed by us,but nearly matches it.

Now allow me to hypothesise here. I was aware of financial troubles at RFC as far back as 2004. In actual fact,it didn’t take a genius,it just took someone with internet access. As I was neither of the above,I spoke to a colleague at work about it,who put me in touch with someone in our Scottish branch.

Hey,good for me,eh? That’s not the point. The people in charge of Celtic were aware of it too.

And don’t dare tell me they weren’t,because Brian Quinn is on record of warning Murray that his payment methods were illegal.

So,here’s the deal. We knew in 2004 that the huns were a busted flush. We knew too that they were playing fast and loose with HMRC. And after another wee Treble in 2008 what did we do?

We allowed that utterly odious character to return to Ibrox and become a legned. Aye,we can laugh, but he won a Treble.

Then they eventually went bust, our major shareholder cries into his golf cart and our micromanaging CEO signs off the 5WA despite denying it an AGM. He should be struck off the register for that. By law.

So,are our board complicit or incompetent? It’s a weird thing that people in power can shrug off a question, but they find it difficult when asked two opposing questions.

It’s either,or. But I’ll cut them a break on this one and say both. And damned both ways.

MAHE and I set this site up two years ago to give Celtic fans a place to talk without getting the usual fandan pantywetter nonsense that we see on other sites. That’s not a go at CQN,I’ve got a lot of respect for Paul. But it is true through nearly every site on Timternet.

Now,MAHE and I have had a lot of mails over those years requesting that certain people be removed from the site. PAUL67 had plenty about me! We always refuse,no rules are being broken and if we see something that doesn’t sit straight,we will say so.

We are providing everyone with a platform to discuss the future of our club. We have made that plain from Day One. And yet some of our posters cannot be bothered to discuss such a matter of import because XYZ poster annoys him. And mails us to tell XYZ to eff off or he himself is leaving.

You can guess the reply, regretful as may be.

So what I’m saying to you all is,this board might be doing in our collective boxes, but it is no time to be getting out of dodge. That’s our team,we might not be too happy about the people in suits, but the guys in the HOOOOOOOPS are us. And if your ego is so fragile that you run screaming into a corner and don’t want to have your say on here, cool. Your call.

I am in a different time zone and most of you are getting ready to get up and face the day I am just getting ready to go to bed, but before I go I would like say I can’t say enough about this site the posts the many great bloggers the thick skinned , the thin skinned, the comedians it all adds up to a great Celtic Place to hear our many different opinions all very Democratic
Thanks guys for keeping us going through trying times

Noel Skytrot

BMCUWP and Mahe, I don’t like how the pair of your monikers look so could you please remove yourselves or i’ll not be back on here. Lol

If people are pishing their pink frillies due to disagreements or differing opinions by others on here maybe this isn’t the site for them. I don’t always agree with posters opinions but wouldn’t ask them to be removed. For me, its simple, if you don’t agree about something posted, have a respectful debate and don’t take it personal. I echo the Tic’s sentiments, it’s a good site for expressing how we feel about something most of us have a deep affinity/ emotional attachment too. I like reading the articles, the comments whether a critique or praise, hearing people’s experiences following the club that span generations, the showing of solidarity among many on here for each other when the chips are down for them etc My only criticism is some of the music posted is shocking. Lol Anyway , just my two bobs worth and if you don’t agree please don’t ask for my removal. Lol So to you all, thanks and keep it going. Hail Hail

I’m only vaguely aware of what’s needed to produce and manage a Celtic fans’ blog, but I guess it’s a hell of a lot of work for both Mahe and BMCUWP. I also know that Auldheid and BRTH work tirelessly in an effort to get the truth out to us fans, or to raise amazing sums for charitable causes. There are many others who just make me breathless just reading about their various escapades.
Hat tip to all.
If people don’t like what they read, either make your point on the blog, or scroll by. If it’s that bad, then visit a blog you do like, or set up your own. See how easy it is.
I prefer this blog to others out there. I know some of the folk involved and I’ve even missed a train or two. Whilst disagreeing with some posters over the years, I’ve never felt threatened or unwelcome. I dont understand the animosity between some folk.
Anyway, let’s hope for the best tonight. As we say, Lille are no mugs. I’d be happy with a draw, failing which, a solid performance. Not many French sides lose at home.

A thing of beauty

Bmcuwp,
Good article. There are a few posters I miss and have expressed that several times but they are not here for a reason, and they may be personal rather than blog related. I hope they’ll come back and others will join but if not Cest la vie, I’m happy to yak with everyone who does come on here. As for the music, as Noel sky trot says it is shocking at times but never anything other than an education.
As for tonight Ger alludes that not many French teams lose at home. I think Lille haven’t won at home in 12 games in Europe. Fear not our French friends, the Celtic seive will sort that for you tout suite!!

McCaff

Morning all, the music is shocking at times…and I might have to accept the responsibility for some of that!! But the ways some views are expressed are way worse than the music!!😉🤣😂🤣

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Howdy,folks.

I realise-having read back-that the second part of today’s article looks like a bit of a moan at you all,and that was far from the intention. I’ve always said-and post it on here often enough-that any site is only as good as its members, and for that we are both grateful.

The site is incredibly easy to monitor, due to the fact that you treat it with respect and comment accordingly. Very rarely have we felt the need to delete posts or to draw attention to comments which we feel to be badly expressed,or worse. Hell knows,I’ve said worse elsewhere to the extent that I sometimes wonder why anyone still speaks to me!

(Including,of course, suggesting that there’s time for another pint before the train leaves!)

But the people who have decided to leave the site have done so for their own reasons. And yes,we miss their input otherwise I wouldn’t have mentioned it. We can’t always agree with each other, and life would be helluva boring if we did. But if I’m in the pub with a bunch of lads, one of whom frequently gets on my nipples,I don’t bin the bunch of lads. I just ignore the nipple grinder.

Back in the real world, looking at tonight’s game, all we can hope for IMO is that we return without further injury problems. It’s a biggie at the weekend, and I’m not sure that NL can survive as manager if we lose. Aye,it’s that important-or it should be.

Noel Skytrot

ATOB and McCaff big high five to you both for backing me up regarding the tunes. Lol

McCaff

Bobby, we should look at tonight’s game as a free shot on the road to recovery. It’s a highly competitive game but in the short term means very little. Of much more import is to get players back to full fitness and into a better frame of mind to head up the defence of the Scottish Cup and the history-making 10 In A Row.
As Garry said last night get behind the team and the manager…
Mon the Leather Belts!!!

Is Eddy ready?
Here’s hoping. With the added incentive of playing back home maybe we will see the Eddy we have missed recently. 🙂
Even half a match would be good.

Insightful lead BMCUWPS,

The numbers highlighted by OMOV are stark but unlike many other businesses Celtic will survive.

If not just follow Sevco’s lead…

Dermot spoke about his dislike years ago of Lazy Journalism. Writing that didn’t logically follow the facts but followed conditioned opinions and assumptions before reaching a conclusion.

The Blog’s strength is that it doesn’t follow that narrative. The floor is open to whoever feels they have something to say and a dialogue ensues.

The topics develop the author and the audience.

Celtic are going through a difficult time at the moment. There are no winners and losers in this. There’s only the truth.

Sometimes this can be painful. We’re all attached to Celtic. Things we’re attached to cause us pain.

The topics discussed here go to the core of our identify. We’re sailing into uncharted waters, that creates anxiety and an urge to control the outcome.

Some lash out, some circle the wagons, some run away.

If we don’t panic a doorway opens and the freedom we’ve been seeking is right there.

Hopefully tonight is a watershed. We’ve a squad worth £90m+ on paper (Transfermarket).

Early kick off 5.55pm.

Arsenal v Dundalk @ 8pm

France in lockdown, and we’re sending the team there ffs, that’s where Eddy got Covid a couple of weeks ago….madness

We can only hope both teams tonight are in a smaller, much stricter ‘bubble’ than the international games. For instance players will not be travelling as individuals with the increased risk of exposure that entails. I recognise of course that it is not risk free. There is an argument to curtail all foreign travel. But on the other hand you can catch it at home!

So, should all contact sports be stopped all together?

I could have cried-from laughter or frustration,I’m not sure which-to read that West Ham v Man City last weekend would be held behind closed doors in the huge expanse of The Olympic Stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions, yet fans could pay a tenner to watch it in the cinema-an enclosed and confined space,obviously-a few yards away.

A wiser man than I said that the law is an ass. I’ll add to that the lawmakers.

SOLKITTS

Now that my get-out clause of not having the app necessary to pay for the beer, etc,is no longer valid, and I can no longer freeload on my genial host,I’ve decided to delete your details.

Well, maybe not. Who else can I savour a decent whisky with? Puts me up-and puts up with me!-for a weekend? Allows me to treat their home as my own?

Actually, you should delete my details, mucker! See ya as soon as lockdown regulations allow. Off to London next weekend due to circumstances beyond my control and my return ticket to your place still being valid. That’ll teach them to mess up my Sunday.

Btw,the Monday in a pub near Paddington was interesting. The kind of day only I could find myself in,took me eight hours to get out of it. One guy,a Canadian, who before I told him to stop yapping on the phone and join us was asking his business partner to plead with the banks to hold till the end of the month-literally seeing everything he had worked for disappearing!-and another,Irish fella, whose business as a music promoter wasn’t doing too well for obvious reasons. We shouldn’t even have been sitting with each other, much less allowed out on our own,but by the end of the day the Irish fella had put the Canadian in touch with someone who “might be of some assistance” in his words and his world was set on its axis again.

Good for him, mine looked a bit funny and off-kilter when I left that night!

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Re the Monday in Paddington,I’ve got the business card of the Irish fella, look me up anytime, gimme a call if you fancy a pint, not like I’m doing much anyway these days.

Some lad, honestly a pleasure to meet. Of course,I didn’t ask him for the card but he was insistent that we meet up again sometime and in his opinion that was the best way to guarantee it.

The Canadian fella was offered one as well, and I genuinely hope he is in a better place than he was at noon that day. He took it,but declined to offer one back as-in his words-the phones will probably be cut off by the time you get round to calling. He just gave us his mobile number instead.

Btw,the reason I don’t use his name is that it is an unusual one and might identify him. It’s unlikely that anyone who knows him reads this site, but that is still a risk too far. Same with the Irish fella.

Dundalk are Celts too…Off topic but the magic of the game.

DundalkFC (@DundalkFC) Tweeted:

💬 “Thierry Henry was my idol when I was growing up. I asked for Thierry as my confirmation name. They said no at the start but the teacher came back two weeks later and said he was a saint and that I could have it!”

😂 Michael ‘Thierry’ Duffy.

Bobby and Mahe,

You run an excellent site. You should never doubt that! I have noticed that a few well known faces have disappeared and that is unfortunate. I hope they come back. I do not know the background to the reasons.

I do not understand why anyone would email to have someone banned, unless they consistently espoused hate or bigotry. I recall another blog which was roaring along when an amusing, at first, character appeared on it. In the beginning he contributed a lot to the blog, but then he started expressing extreme political views that bordered on bigotry. He is no longer on that blog….I know not why. Anyway, I simply scrolled past his comments and focussed on those bloggers that I enjoyed reading. It is easy to do.

Since I have ducked out of CelticTV, I expect I shall have little to say in the future. Perhaps that is a blessing because most of my recent posts have been negative. I sometimes wonder if my negativity is, in part, due to flagging interest in the team. Or could it be that I am less interested because of the negative performances? Chicken and egg paradoxes always get to me! Like this one.

In a village, the barber only shaves all men that do not shave themselves. If the barber is a man, who shaves the barber?

Good luck to the team tonight. They will need it.

Rebus

Rebus, I enjoy reading your posts. Because you no longer have access to Celtic TV doesn’t mean your worthwhile opinions will disappear! Besides you can still watch the highlights or, dare I say it, watch a stream?
keep posting buddy 🙂

Oglach

rebus67

JTT53 is correct ‘a chara’ sometimes decent free,😁🙄, streams available to watch the bhoys these days – the away games at least. Celtic TV seem to try harder than most others to prevent individuals streaming their home games.

Oglach, I wish our Board put as much effort into cleaning up corruption in Scottish Football as it does to blocking streams.

rebus67

Jimthetim,

Thank you. I enjoy your wide taste in music.

I hope you continue to feel better. I have found this site has helped when I or my wife have had a health issue. That alone makes it a worthwhile site.

Let me waste your time by telling you a true story that has nothing to do with anything!

When I moved back to Scotland from England, I hired my own removal van to save money. I shall not reveal the name of the rental company but let’s call it Avis, for the sake of argument. Most of my furniture was stored at my gran’s house in Knightswood. So, my father and brother and I drove over to gran’s and loaded the furniture into the van. My brother decided to sit on a swivel chair in the back of the van. To provide background he had recently been discharged from the old Gartnavel Hospital after suffering from depression. I had one more trip to make to my father in law’s flat at Anniesland Cross to pick up a chest of drawers. He lived in a high rise and there was a parking area at the bottom of the building. I drove into the parking area under a pedestrian bridge…….I had driven in there every day in my car. However, the van was a different matter, being higher! I remember the windscreen flying out of its socket and disappearing over the bonnet, as we became wedged under the bridge! I tried to reverse out but, fortunately, could not. Fortunately, because the sides of the van had burst open and my brother spun round in his swivel chair and been fired out through the burst side. He landed, somewhat bemused on the road and lay there as I attempted to reverse the van over him! Later he told me that it cured his depression since he always thinks back to that experience and tells himself that if he can handle that, he can handle anything. I have often thought of setting up a clinic for those suffering from the black cloud. The clinic would be based in an Avis van.

To this day, there is still a mark on the bridge where I impaled the van.

The police arrived and took down details and indicated that I might be charged with dangerous driving! Fortunately, I was not!

However, I learned that the fine print of van rental agreements indicates that you are not covered for damage caused by overhead collision! The van was one year old and had to be written off. I feared bankruptcy. Avis, or the rental company were magnificent. They came and pick up my furniture(and my brother) and took us over to my new house. They removed the wreckage and sold off the chassis of the van. My bill was 342 pounds, which was a lot of money to me in 1972 but not as much as it could have been.

Believe it or not.

The local Lille press state that a legendary football club is visiting the city tonight. They bemoan the fact that the Hoops supporters won’t be in the stadium to bring their songs and ambiance to the occasion. Lille have no one out through Covid or injury so have a full squad to choose from.( Lucky bs) Although they have an important game against Lyon on Sunday feel that a victory tonight will see them well placed to qualify from the group. We will be really up against it tonight, a draw would be an achievement.

Rebus, what a story! I don’t know whether to laugh or not!
brilliant. 🙂

McCaff

Rebus…superb story! I love true, funny anecdotes – they’re the fabric of our lives and even other people’s tales can impact on your own. I’m laughing at your brother lying in the road wondering wtf just happened then your reverse lights come on!🤣🤣🤣

rebus67

McCaff,

It has become a family legend.

Part 2 of the story concerns the bankruptcy issue. As I said the truck was 1 year old and I feared that they would hit me with loss of earnings as the truck was off the road for weeks while they tested the chassis to see if it could be straightened. They did not deem it worth the effort and sold it on to a company that would straighten it and run it as a rental. The value had slumped from 2000 to 800 in one year of rental. They got 400 odd for the chassis and billed me for the rest, no charge for loss of revenue.

The lawyer who handled the sale of our house was consulted and he thought bankruptcy was very likely if they charged for loss of earnings. So, he devised a strategy where the house was transferred to my wife and we had to stall proceedings for one year to ensure that the transfer took the house out of my estate. He felt so sorry for us that he did not charge us for his services. How often do you come across that!

Later I heard he was struck off for mixing his client account with his personal investments. Until recently I still had the stamped cheque that I wrote. I had it framed and hung on my living room wall. Every time I hit a difficult time in my life, I would look at the cheque and remember how things did work out alright.

Rebus

Mahe

Howfy folks.

6 o clock kick off? Will watch tonight my time and aim to avoid score.
Treat it as a learning opportunity I say.
Good Luck Lenny.
Enjoy your game folks.

Hail Hail

McCaff

Rebus…I’ve had longterm issues to be dealt with and they can really wear you down. Your lawyer obviously done you a turn but I wonder which of his clients paid for his services to you! Anyhoo, it seems like it must have been a nightmare at the time, your wife must have been climbing the wa’ with worry!!
Funny in the retelling though!! 😁

McCaff

Mahe…yeah 6 o’clock! Our boys are training tonight 6-7.30 – in the pouring rain! We’re away for the weekend tomorrow so i’ve got loads to do when training finishes…I’m not sure how much of the game I’ll see even if I record it!
C’mon the Hoops!!!

Auldheid

BMCUW

The more that becomes transparent the more you wonder about how far back does the codependency go and if we should go there.

What would have been affect if WGS had gone on to win a 4th title in 2009 and 10 and 11?

I’ve probably provided link to a spreadsheet that shows that when W Smith arrived and with HMRC Determinations of back tax on ebts in spring of 2008 arriving at Ibrox Rangers went on a net spend of £11m and increased reported debt from £6m to £36m reduced to £18m from CL income by the time CW paid it off with future ST sales.

Some of the spend used ebts as a payment mechanism.

Were Celtic in no position to respond to that spend in 2008 or was a response going to push Rangers deeper into the debt doo?

One of the puzzles from Res12 is why Celtic avoided taking the lead given sufficient evidence in 2013 to make the non compliance charges eventually placed in 2018 , since abandoned because of the 5 Way Agreement.

Is the reluctance of Celtic to act on that evidence explained by what the other side know of Celtic’s help in keeping them treading water using CL money since 2008?

How far did that help extend to in 2011? How unsighted were Celtic on Rangers plight in early 2011 and why when Sherriff Officers called did they not commission an investigation of their own, or even ask UEFA Club Financial Control Body to investigate which would have been easy if my memory is correct that Brian Quinn served on it.

In respect of UEFA there is an interesting e mail on the Res12 Archive from SFA UEFA Compliance chap to Rangers giving them the good news that that the monitoring submission of July 2011 had verbally been accepted. It is dated 19 Sept 2011 by which time the Sherriff Officers visit of 10 Aug 2011 is public knowledge.

So were UEFA told the truth ie an overdue payment existed or did SFA spin UEFA a line that a liability not a payable existed?

Did the fact that by 19 Sept Rangers were out of Europe give UEFA and SFA a reason to ask no more questions on what was a false submission using the same excuse provided when the licence was granted?

My overriding point is that either I remove my tin foil helmet or the big lie is a lot lot bigger and older than we can absorb.
