November S̶p̶a̶w̶n̶e̶d̶ Spurned A Monster
Happy November 3rd, or as it’s called here Election Day!
The first Tuesday in November affords the opportunity to engage in one of mankind’s greatest ever achievements, democracy.
The ruling families and aristocrats the world over where stunned when George Washington became the first man in history to knowingly and willingly walk away from a position of supreme power having had nothing whatsoever to do with choosing the successor, a task left purely to the people for the first time ever.
And thus the worlds first democratic republic was born.
That republic still functions despite those who had their misgivings, of which there were many. Never before had any and all races came together in one place never mind under one banner, but they did, continue to, and probably.always will.
Why is very simple, because they/we are all offered a chance to be a part of something, something beautiful by way of a harmonious melting pot who could and would choose it’s own path and direction.
For all of us, America offers something to buy into via the rights granted to all under the Constitution.
And today sees that very Constitution perform perhaps its finest act in allowing the people to choose a new leader.
You don’t need to ask which side of the fence I stand on but I believe we will see record turnouts for this particular election, for the very essence of the American dream is being challenged, the people simply do not like what they see and hear one bit, and will turn to their most powerful weapon.
Their Constitution and the democracy offered within.
It really is beautiful, something to be proud of, especially when viewed through the prism of those locked into life under a military regime lead by Pol Pot, Pinnochet, Idi Amin, Thatcher and numerous other tyrants throughout history.
Many would die for the opportunity afforded to all under that Constitution, unfortunately many did and some still do.
The Constitution was forged in blood, like many historic declarations. Chances are your own country was liberated from the Crown at a terrible cost, just like my homeland plus here, and therefore your own form of governance came at a very heavy price, a price that should never have been needed.
That blood was spilt exactly in order for days like today to take place!
This is the end result of all American history, today.
Today is when we en masse buy into the system, we sign up for it by way of choosing who rules. If we weren’t afforded the opportunity to do so, many would not and will choose not to come here, myself among them.
Democracy or I’m out, and I guarantee millions of Americans feel the same.
Alas for my club of choice, democracy is a dirty word. Many Tims including those in the boardroom will celebrate today’s election result and the clear message that me, my American family, friends, and neighbours send to the rest of the world that says we are not racist and we will sign back up to that Paris Accord asap so we can all start saving this planet.
They will clap their hands at it, raise glasses to it, talk about the good men that fought to make it happen, ensure that they live under it all their life, but when it really comes down to it, there’s not one bit of democracy at Glasgow Celtic.
Last November seen Res12 2013 swept aside due to voting block rights, and let’s face it what the top table doesn’t want they don’t allow to happen whether the fans wish it or not, its like that.
And this from a club that had a man who laid his life on the line to be free of the yolk of dictators come across the water to plant the centre circle thus cementing not only the bond between our nations but also the idea that liberty, the opportunity to be heard and self govern, is something worth fighting for ,, explain to me how that makes sense?
Democracy stops at the door of Celtic Park, but it and the battle for it is apparently fair game to be financially exploited.
What does that tell you?
Tells me they are Capitalists afraid of it.
Now I’m a simple Irish boy who happens to bump my gums on a wee corner of the internet, trying not to start fights or gain popularity but regarding our club of choice I have a lot to say so I went ahead and organised somewhere to say it.
Exercising my right to freedom of speech I guess, nought wrong with that right?
However a democracy could and I’m sure at some stage would pitch mine or a similar vision of Glasgow Celtic against Dermots much different vision, the green half of the old firm out for profit, dreaming of the Epl gold.
Under a democracy we wouldn’t be on this path at all.
That’s why its not happening and there’s no intention to introduce such a concept.
Put me on a stage to sell you my dream for that club against Dermot and its a no contest..
If its one man one vote that is, the very essence of democracy.
That’s why it ain’t happening.
The passion for some form of democracy at our beloved club has actually manifested itself into one poster adopting the very simple slogan ‘one member, one vote’, something not alien to football clubs at all, in fact Barca will vote in a new president soon on that basis, and Bayern have become arguably the best team in Europe under that system.
But its a step too far for us?!
I mentioned earlier but the only reason I’m here, physically here in the States, is because of the dream afforded, the opportunity that rides side by side with that dream, and the States has been very good to me I admit.
But at the heart of it, I wouldn’t be here if not afforded the opportunity to buy into it.
Which brings me finally to the club.
The AGMs afford an avenue of accountability by charter law, so in the event of a split the floor could question the top table. It always was thus.
However when that table holds the power to out vote the floor, one really must ask what’s the point?
Taken in reference to today’s election, you won’t need me to point out that people wouldn’t be queuing in record numbers if that vote actually meant nothing right!
It doesn’t take a genius to work out they wouldn’t show up if it wasn’t what was promised, wasn’t what was initially offered, if the dream wasn’t real!!!
And that’s the big problem.
It might pass our boardroom by, in fact it totally looks like it has so I best spell it out straight.
THESE DAYS, DEMOCRACY IS EXPECTED!!!
The club and its pensioners need to take a peek at the modern world. You want the next generation, the hardest ever to catch and keep in this Hi Def cutting edge world, then you offer more than bent refs, plastic pitches, and to top it all off gerrymandering the support when you’re actually caught red handed.
Stay on that path I ain’t showing up and neither are the next generation.
Great business eh?
Accept your lot?
Nah, the fans want an equal say in the running of our beloved club, and anyone stands in the way of that noble dream can and is considered a problem as far as I’m concerned.
There’s one course worthy of our club.
It’s also the course that guarantees survival, for people flee dictatorships these days, not flock to it and certainly don’t entice those they love into the trap.
The fans must be heard.
One Member, One Vote, just like Election Day.
BLACK LIVES MATTER!!!
