Starting Over

Morning,all.

This has been an unusual international break, has it not? It’s almost been interesting for a change! There have been the usual Covid outbreaks caused by the ludicrous method for transporting our valuable players across continents and oceans-pubic transport,natch!-and even a Euro Finals qualification for Scotland!!!

To put that into a bit of perspective,my niece is in her final year of a five year course at uni and it will be the first qualification in her lifetime. Congratulations,of course, are due.

Then there’s the news-as yet unsubstantiated of course-that a certain southside institution owes millions to wur wee pal Hector. Possibly adding another reason as if any were needed for ensuring that said institution win the league this season and get their mitts on a Champions League crock of gold. Not forgetting two important issues arising from the much delayed announcement of the date of the Celtic Plc AGM. Firstly that it will be a virtual AGM held via Zoom and secondly that no questions from the floor will be permitted. Only written questions submitted in advance will be given airtime. I wonder which ones will be considered suitable for the occasion…

The big talking point,of course,is the latest resolution put forward by the shareholders et al who supported the original Resolution 12 in 2013. And that the board do not consider it worthy of a response, much less action, merely broadcasting that it is dead in the water already.

Shameless behaviour. From originally trying so hard to derail Res 12 in order to cover up their complicity in the alleged actions, they now can’t even be bothered to hide it! They know that not sufficiently enough of the fans are invested in this, due to the policy of Omertà by the SMSM,who would normally have a field day ripping our board to shreds over such a blatant and longrunning corruption,or collusion at the very least. (I used to cut them some slack by suggesting that they were simply outwitted, but fair minded as I am,I can no longer clutch onto that straw.)

But then to damage Celtic, they would have to explain what it was all about, and that is a can of worms that everyone involved wants to see deep-sixed altogether.

But that is for another day nearer the time. It is back to the proverbial bread and butter stuff this weekend, with a difficult trip to Easter Road. Once again, the TV companies have given our fans a contemptuous boot in the balls with their preference for the live match that day being a visit to their spiritual southside cesspit. Any Celtic fans wanting to watch our Bhoys live on TV will have to cough up £15. That’s the third time this season,I believe, while the hun hordes have been able to keep their hands in their pockets. And they call us paranoid?

To the football itself though. No-one can say that our team has excelled so far this season, although our home performance against Hibs was probably our best of a dreadful season so far. There are perhaps a number of factors behind this, including the unscheduled break due to Boli buggering off to Spain against the regulations at the time. Then there’s the absences due to Covid isolation as well as perhaps the worst run of injuries-even by our standards-that I can remember since the 77-78 season. But if we are honest, the biggest factor has been the form of those players who have been on the pitch. There really are no excuses,we have a big enough squad for a reason, and that is to be able to cope with absences and poor form. Everyone who is near to a place on the bench is capable of holding down a first team place.

Frankly, too many who are holding down a first team place are being found seriously wanting, far less their potential replacements.

So why is this? There are a number of theories, from a lack of coaching,a drop in fitness standards, poor tactics or team selection. All of these can be laid at the door of our manager, because players NEED to be coached and to know that they are always being taught how to improve. They NEED to be pushed that extra yard to take them out of their comfort zone, and they sure as hell need to know what is expected of them and their colleagues on any given day. But the biggest problem as I see it is more straightforward, even if unpalatable. We simply have too many players who do not want to be at the club any longer, players who a year ago were expecting their big move at the end of the season.

Two problems, though. Firstly, the club decided that The Ten was more important, that we would hold onto our best players and in fact sign a few more. And secondly, the Covid crisis meant that we would be unlikely anyway to achieve our target sales price for those players. Both of which are very good reasons indeed for holding onto our stars, and I have no problem with that. Indeed,it could be argued that we did the players in question a favour,as they would be expected to sign a long-term contract for any new club but would be unlikely to receive the wages that they might have expected pre-Covid.

But too many of them seem to have brought their grievances about this onto the pitch with them-or not,as the case may be. Those players who are perceived to be in the group who would prefer to be elsewhere are playing way below their usual high standards, the standards that might have attracted suitors in the first place. Others seem reluctant to risk themselves after injury, despite hightailing it to join their international squads immediately afterwards. One or two,in fact, appear to bother their respective arses as and when they feel like it.

Not only is this unprofessional and disrespectful to both the club and to the fans,it is simply not in their own interests in the long term. Or even the short or medium term. We saw some of our players performing superbly for their international sides during the break, showing all the attributes that made them the heroes of the Celtic Park stands. So we know that the skills and the desire are still there. But for the players in question to get the move that they want,to a club of the expected stature and commensurate wages, they need to be doing it week in week out at club level. They need to get those buying clubs interested in the first place, and they can only do that by their performances for Celtic.

If they aren’t interested in doing it for the fans or for the immortality of being part of a legendary Ten In A Row side, then surely it makes sense to at least do it to improve their own prospects? I don’t care what reason is needed for them to up their game and get back to the level we know they are capable of with their eyes shut. Celtic needs them to get back to their previous high standards-even if they are only doing it for what they can get out of it.

Starting at the weekend.

Chairbhoy

My deepest condolences to Fairhill Bhoy. May his father R.I.P.

Good morning Celtic bhoys and ghirls, great to see Scotland in a major Championship, a wee trip to Wembley to boot… well done Steve Clarke and the boys!!

BMCUWPS…

Haven’t been on much recently so loathed to return in disagreement but disagree I must.

“They know that not sufficiently enough of the fans are invested in this, due to the policy of Omertà by the SMSM, who would normally have a field day ripping our board to shreds over such a blatant and longrunning corruption, or collusion at the very least”

For me these issues have little or nothing to with the SMSM. Celtic hierarchy utilise the SMSM as much as anyone.

Let me give you an example.

Many, not your good self, blamed the SMSM for the Bolingoli affair, seriously, we are depending on the SMSM bailing us out, if they don’t it’s all their fault.

Insanity. The problem with this nonsensical blame culture is it feeds directly into the incomptetence and underachievement and lame excuse culture that allows the toxin in our club to survive.

Instead of blaming the SMSM for the Bolingoli affair we should have been asking…

Did we have a Covid officer? If so what were they doing, if not why not?

Did Bolingoli have a mentor? If so what were they doing, if not why not?

Did Bolingoli have a team buddy? If so what were they doing, if not why not?

We should be asking how come our players have enough time off at a crucial time of the season to go on a trip abroad? How no one in our organisation, friend, colleague, coach, manager had any idea what the players get up to.

Why it takes a week to discover several major breaches of protocol. It’s incompetence of the highest order within the Club…

The modern Celtic supporter can trust few “news”, punditry or “comment” outlets.

We only need to look at the fit-up job our manager done on Griff at the begining of the season.

The truth decay on Big Pedro’s partial web site.

The division wrought on social media platforms.

We can see they will even stoke up sectarianism among Celtic support to keep the smoke’n mirrors that keeps the myths going…

A well run Club… Look at the accounts

A Club like no other… look at the “corruption and collusion”

A Generation of Domination… who did we dominate?

A top performing CEO… name one sustained achievement in 17 Seasons.

Celtic supporters should dissect every piece of blame, every excuse and stand up to the lies been fed. The SMSM aren’t going to sort out Celtic for us, the opposite in fact.

The SMSM is just one conduit for the disinformation foisted on Celtic supporters from the many – be wary, be aware.

Good to have you back, old son. If I may say so,I think you are disagreeing with the wrong bit! My point about the MSM wasn’t Covid-related,it was to do with the resolutions and the 5WA.

IMO they would usually be tearing us apart over it,with cracked crests everywhere. For me,their silence speaks volumes because as I said, to damage Celtic, they would have to explain what it was all about, and that is a can of worms that everyone involved wants to see deep-sixed altogether.

Your other points about Boli, etc, are bang on.

Howdy,folks.

The first twenty weeks have seperated the wheat from the chaff, with the Premier Division going for the big money and the First Division playing for the minor prizes. The relegation places were tight as was expected, and mention must be given to VALLEYBHOY,who napped a 33/1 shot only to see it come up just short in second place.

An extra length and he would have been lying in second place, about a tenner behind our pacesetter RAYMAC! Such are the margins…

Three winners this week from CELTICCHAMPSELECT-16/5-MAHE-2/1-and JIMTHETIM53-4/5 so here is the updated table.

Agree with all the points in the article but its not like we can actually be surprised by any of it. Football has been running away from us for years now, calling football the working class game is frankly a joke. Celtic PLC, Pistol Pete treat us with the same level of contempt as any other team out there. We are consumers to them nothing more nothing less, the disconnect between fans and clubs widens every year. Fans are emotionally invested and that’s what they play on over and over again.

I think they are playing a very dangerous game now though, one they maybe cannot pull around this time. The Covid pandemic is going to focus people like never before and once the 10 has come and gone (successful or not) how will they convince the fans to keep pouring money in, money a lot really wont be able to afford. Watching sevco financially dope their way to another title and possible European riches while our board don’t speak up about any of it, and actively encouraging the ‘Old Firm’ mantra as its good for business should be soul destroying for every Celtic fan out there.

Eight years into fighting this bullshit and the huns are pulling the same stroke again when does everyone say enough is enough, we haven’t even got answers from the first con job, how many ratners moments do the support need to wake up and see our club for what it is?

Billy Bhoy

Hi Guys

Me again – with another wee update on the Record Fantasy Football stats.

I didn’t expect to be doing this again quite so soon!

This is for last nights game:

John McGinn – 5
Calmac -6
Christie -7
But once again no one can touch Ryan Jack who was MOTM with an 8.

This was the fawning guff that accompanied the rating under a headline of

FLAWLESS RYAN JACK IMPRESSES ON A NIGHT OF FRUSTRATION

RYAN JACK: He’s getting better with each passing match and his big-game experience for Rangers in Europe certainly helps. Tigerish in the tackle and classy in possession – you can see why he’s become an automatic pick. 8

If only Calmac, Christie, KT, Robertson and McTominey could get some of that big-game European experience, eh?

BTW in the accompanying match report Jack got ONE mention. He dummied a ball from McGinn which ran through to O’Donnell to sclaff a shot wide!

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

AYRSHIREBHOY

Correct about how the fans are viewed now-not as fans but as customers. This completely ignores the emotional investment involved in supporting a side. Honestly, how many people do you know who have changed allegiance from one side to another after, say, they hit puberty?

Damn few,I reckon-because they would get the pish ripped right out of them!

Worse would be to refer to the fans in the way that the head of the German FA did after their drubbing from Spain the other night…
***
“That may be natural in times of pandemic but even before lockdown Germany didn’t always fill stadiums and TV figures were falling. Attempts to remedy that can feel forced: Bierhoff talks of stakeholders not fans, a growing sense that he is more CEO than centre-forward.”
***
Unless and until the people in charge remember that we are FANS,not customers or stakeholders or whatever, this downward corporate spiral will continue. Clubs and nations are NOT an equivalent of Asda or M&S,where we can simply decide to take our business elsewhere. It is easier to get a divorce than to desert your team, and considerably more socially acceptable.

It won’t happen until the moneylenders are thrown out of the temple, but there will be one almighty hallelujah chorus if it does.

Thing is football is becoming a money pit and how much longer (post covid) can people go on stumping up is debatable. Being an armchair fan costs nearly as much as a season ticket nowadays with having to pay sky, premier sports and bt if you want to see all the Celtic matches. Football players are as detached from the average supporter as they have ever been. Overpaid spoilt brats jetting to spain overnight, birthday parties during covid restrictions, guys on international duty getting girls sent to their hotels, and meanwhile struggling fans are paying these idiots wages. Compare that to story I read yesterday about Peter Grant heading to a supporters club in highlands immediately after winning the league at Love Street, can you imagine that happening nowadays.

The overall costs involved in being a ‘consumer’ are beyond a joke. I watched the entire tour de france, every minute of every stage for £6.99 and also had access to all other races that were on during that month. That price wouldn’t get me 90 minutes of football! I could build a holiday around seeing a few mountain stages of the tour, ride the exact mountains the pro’s ride and give the family a great break abroad for less than a season ticket and all the extra costs involved.

Bobby, Great article as usual.
I was thinking of the players who want away and are playing below par as a result. If Neil & the club know this for a fact, why are they getting a game? Drop them! I’d rather we play fringe players who have passion. I don’t buy into this idea that we need to keep playing these want aways to keep them in the shop window. I’d rather lose several millions in transfer fees than risk our results. Of course that might affect Pete’s bonus and the big shareholder’s dividends.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

AYRSHIREBHOY

The costs involved to watch football nowadays are ridiculous,as you point out. As an example,a Celtic season ticket is c£700 for 19 home games. Add in another ton for three EL group stage games, another ton for the four qualifiers. Yet another ton for the domestic cup games on average, plus say £150 for the four semis and finals.

There’s £1150 right away, and you still haven’t got there yet! Travelling from Kilwinning is roughly £10 or so by train and that’s another c£450. And then there’s the Sky,BT and Premier which all told I’d be surprised to find there was change from a grand a year.

So £2600pa before you buy any food, drink, merchandising. Fifty quid a week. The way we are playing this season I’d rather spend that on booze and blot it all out.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

JIMTHETIM53

I suspect that one or two of our wantaways will opt next year to run down their contracts. That being the case,I’d not let them near the squad, even in training.

Rebus67

Bobby,

Enjoyed your article. I am amazed at how often we see the chicken and egg conundrum occur in life. Which came first?

Perhaps the reason that players want away is quite simply the managerial team who do not seem able to coach the players, design a shape that consistently produces results, and provides career plans for each player.

Some may critique that view by saying the manager is not the only problem and I would agree but he sure as heck is a major problem. It is Mr H all over again.

The break was the best time to institute change to save the league which is probably already lost anyway. Doing nothing means that the Board has concluded that NL is the scapegoat for this season. Almost certainly, NL’s current job is the zenith of his career and it will end in a melee of historic disappointment.

Sorry for the negative tone but I am fed up watching the club accelerate into oncoming headlights.

Rebus

Lose the 10 will be far more than Neil given the blame, if Pete thinks different boy he’s got a surprise coming

Rebus67

Ayrshire,

Used to live in Beith and Fenwick and enjoyed both. PL is smart as are the Board members. When you have a manager who consistently fails against your biggest rival, you have to have another reason for keeping him in position. Part of it is financial but there will be qualitative reasons as well.

Rebus

PS PL could survive the loss of the league but NL would not.

That’s why I mentioned about players needing to be coached, etc. You should hear ATHINGOFBEAUTY on the subject! There is no point in picking eleven players for a game if you are just sending them out there to do their thing. They NEED to know what their thing is,and that they can look forward to improving in each game and each training session.

Maybe even with a manager who uses every coaching tool available to him, instead of chucking them in a bin liner.

=========================
When you say cannot be bothered to hide it that is many thinking, with justification, that this undertaking from the Boards response

“The Company was disappointed when the Scottish FA declined to investigate the issues referred to and was surprised when the Scottish FA determined not to continue with proceedings, which it had itself opened. In respect of the particular issues now raised, the Board has engaged with the requisitioning shareholders and will engage with the relevant authorities as appropriate in the interests of the Company, providing an update when possible. In the circumstances, therefore, the Board considers the resolution to be unnecessary and recommends that you vote against it. RECOMMENDATION ON RESOLUTION 11 In the circumstances the Board considers the resolution to be unnecessary and recommends that you vote against it”

it is another long grass manoeuvre.

However if the finances at Ibrox (and I understand there is a judgement soon on how much Ashely is owed ) are as reported by Phil MacGiolla Bhain then Celtic will HAVE to engage with the relevant authorities to do what the original Res12 wanted i.e UEFA involvement (note shareholders have involved UEFA since May) in the hope that the results would be introduction of more financial control in Scotland, call it domestic FFP.
That makes it more difficult to avoid true engagement if The Rangers are paying players with money they should be paying creditors in a repeat of 2010/11 gamble that they lost when football karma stepped in wearing Malmo and Maribor jerseys.

The above response also confirms my interpretation of the recommendation to vote against Res11 which is Celtic are saying they are “on it” already.

The issue now is can they be trusted? Not on past performance but events might just force them to do what they have resisted since 2013 and revisit the thinking that led to the 5 Way Agreement that spawned the current version of Rangers.

What I can say on being trusted is that feedback from the Res12/11 Group is that the above “undertaking” to engage is too fuzzy and needs nailed down and the facility to pose questions is already being used to seek clarity and folk will be able to see what has been asked in run up to AGM, just in case Celtic decide it is not questions they wish to answer.

On your second point about not enough fans are interested and how the refusal of the media to investigate has helped keep the lid on, it is true up to a point because it is in the interests of both media and Celtic that no investigation takes place, I’ll post separately using a post on E Tims where the context was what would be needed to make Celtic pay attention to supporters concerns and where responsibility ultimately lies for Celtic not doing so.

Auldheid

Mahe

Me again.

The following is a post on E Tims where the subject was about how many supporters/shareholders would be needed to form a voice and how many would be interested in doing so. The 2000 figure is an estimate of the number of individual shareholders that exist used as a baseline and whether they would be replaced by 2000 ST holders on the waiting list.

” Not if the reasons that made 2000 angry enough to delay renewing were good ones. I only use 2000 because that is a figure relating to shareholders but if cause of dissatisfaction was strong enough the number would be far greater.

The big lie is that Celtic have as much distaste for Rangers as the Celtic support.

Those in charge do not and go to extraordinary lengths to keep that illusion and them alive.

It is all set out on the Res12 Archive https://res12.uk/ with more to be added to take the timeline up to the AGM .

What Celtic say, is not what they do and they do not do what you would expect them to if the distaste was real

They are handed hard evidence that they were defrauded in 2011 and refused to handle it and then spin shareholders a line at the last AGM in 2019 about sanctions not applying, a line only possible by ignoring the fraud period they were provide with evidence of in 2018.

At the same AGM Lawwell denies sight of the 5 Way Agreement that was attached to an e mail to him from Doncaster in July 2012 stating no reply by next day will be taken as acceptance.

They are given hard evidence in 2014 that would see the LNS Commission overturned, the one that allowed titles won by 10 years of cheating to be kept, they accept an agreement that stops justice being applied to events in 2011 and do nothing to oppose the LNS Decision in 2013, in fact take a powder.

They stubbornly refuse to have the grant of UEFA licence in 2011 to go to UEFA. They misdirect shareholders down a judicial cul de sac created by the 5 Way Agreement they were party to.

The only beneficiaries of the foregoing are “Rangers” whose team who might just rob Celtic supporters of the joy of 10 in a row because of a failure to contain their financial recklessness in 2012 and their supporters who love the illusion of going for 55 enabled by the concealment of dishonesty, that allowed LNS to say “Whilst there is no question of dishonesty” and categorise 10 years of cheating as an administrative error.

Only ignorance of such events can explain the support being so docile or being treated as mugs is OK as long as the results are.

When Celtic say as they do when responding to Res12 that they will always act in the Company’s interest, if that requires lying to the supporters/shareholders then that is what they do simply because they have the supporters permission to.

Yep. And it really is a mystery to me that so few Celtic fans have that investment in events since 2011 or so when it became obvious that the huns were doomed, especially when they were resurrected with all their history and trophies as before. The vast majority of the population are internet savvy and connected, and surely our fans must flick onto a blog or two even occasionally? Or even one of their friends or family members.

Aye,it’s easy for me to blame the lack of coverage in the MSM,but I’m not sure that is the actual problem. Which might be that the lack of investment in the issue that I mentioned in the article is,actually,a lack of interest. A scary thought indeed.

And I don’t know where we go from that.

“Only ignorance of such events can explain the support being so docile or being treated as mugs is OK as long as the results are.

When Celtic say as they do when responding to Res12 that they will always act in the Company’s interest, if that requires lying to the supporters/shareholders then that is what they do simply because they have the supporters permission to.”

=====================
The only hope is more supporters see the connection between what makes them anxious (losing to Rangers) and what gives rise to that fear (Celtic Board allowing Rangers free financial rein) and our support realising they can do something about the latter.

In the early days I was talking to a couple of long long term ST holders, one of whom has been involved since in Res12.

Neither were prepared to even consider delaying ST renewal although the latter is much more aware of what he is buying into but its like giving up smoking to a heavy smoker.

I have become more and more aware that instead of bringing peace via the truth that is behind:

John 14:6 6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

lies the much more scary/worrying

Matthew 10:34 I have come to bring a sword. Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: ‘Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth: it is not peace I have come to bring, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. (and Celtic supporter against Celtic supporter?)

On where we go from there I have some lesson learning thoughts from Res12 to express after the AGM.

I’m glad you brought that up Bobby, the media coverage of res. 12 etc. Or should I say the lack of it. I was thinking about that earlier when Auldheid mentioned it, the low profile of Kevin McKenna et. al.

Everything I know about the Rangers saga I learned on line. From Rangers Tax Case to The Scottish Football Monitor, Auldheid and several other sites, including this one. The main stream media didn’t come in to it.

We laugh about the downward spiral the printed media are on. How small they are becoming. And yet we seem desperate to see their coverage of all the corruption in Scottish football. It’s almost as if we still desperately need them, even as we hate them!

Do we need the MSM to join us in our anger & outrage? Only once they are on board with us will we feel justified and satisfied.

Do we really need them to rubber stamp what we already know?

Will the major players in Scottish football only be forced into action when they see it plastered over the pages of the newspapers?

So the 4th estate is still powerful even as it gets smaller in numbers.
