New Tricks
Morning, all.
Forget about The World Cup, folks. The biggest football show on earth arrives today for a whole eleven weeks, eleven weeks of unbridled joy for Celtic fans as DD & Co get busy bringing in the players that MON and his staff require to make a major push for European and world dominance. Yep, that’s right. Today’s the grand opening of the summer transfer window.
We already have vast amounts of money squirrelled away in a savings account, with more to be confirmed when the year end financials are signed off at the end of the month. This is known in some quarters as a warchest. At Celtic Plc, it is a rainy day fund, only to be used in the most dire of emergencies. Here’s a thought-why not use some of the stash to avoid that dire emergency instead of waiting for it to arrive and having to blow the lot?
Radical, eh? There’s some out of the box thinking for y’all, and no mistake.
Of course, you’d have to be out of your tree to think that our club will change the habits of a lifetime just because some eejit with a keyboard thinks it makes sense. The Keynesian school of economic planning ain’t their roadmap to success. No sirree, cut costs and to hell with the quality-or the consequences. So what if spending an extra £100k might have got us the player who brought us European or even domestic success? That’s hypothetical, innit? The £100k saved is real, and that’s what matters.
I listened to the thoughts of Chairman Wilson the other day, and I have to admit I found him more encouraging than similar interviews over the years. He wasn’t confrontational, he held out hope for a more progressive future, and mentioned that changes in structure were on the way. I’m not entirely sure whether this was all cleared with his boss first or even if he was telling it how he’d like it to be rather than how it more likely will be.
Time will tell, just as time will tell whether the manager will be given adequate funds to buy the players we already need as well as quality replacements for those who are probably heading out the door. But as things stand, we need all of those PLUS a Director of Football, staff for a revamped scouting and analytics department, and a clearout of Lennoxtown coaching and medical teams. Not to mention adequate contracts for Martin’s two most trusted lieutenants whose continuing unconfirmed status is a disgrace.
I want to be pleasantly surprised this summer with signs of real activity on all of these fronts. We all do. Celtic FC cannot continue to be divided by those who want the best for the club-that’s the fans who provide every penny of its income, remember-and those who still live in the days of the £20 maximum wage-that’s the board and their lackeys who control the expenditure. The latter cannot continue to treat every penny as a prisoner, they must not continue to downgrade the quality across the board.
Because we, the fans, can play that game too. We can also tighten the pursestrings, as was shown last season by the Not A Penny More campaign. If they refuse to spend the money, we can easily refuse to provide it. And once again we will have a division in our midst next campaign, one which will continue to grow with time.
Celtic Plc know exactly what the manager, the players, and the fans want. They have eleven weeks to learn new tricks and provide it.

“…Shaun and Fozzy this Friday, signing the next Friday”
————————-
Hi MAHE
’The ‘next Friday’ is June 26, 18 days before we play Sporting and 36 before the start of the season! Why on earth would we deliberately procrastinate, delay, delay, delay? We keep compressing our window, while our needs are urgent, and our record of recruitment under the mute sock puppet is slower than an arthritic sloth who needs email consent for everything from someone who is not present at the stadium or even in the City.
We are the most seriously fucked up excuse for a business in terms of efficiency and organization I have ever seen.
HH
INIQUITOUS IV😊
I guess this World Cup isn’t doing nighttime games!?
Stupid imo.
Haven’t seen a single minute and like most natives dont care.
Talk about an own goal, everyone is working at these timeslots ffs.
Amazing that Cabo Verde committed only one foul today. Don Robertson regularly penalizes us over 20 times per game ( and we are the attacking team! )
Mahe, don’t disagree, but there is room for both, I see Kelechi as a squad player rather than starter.l
Is there no VAR ruining this WC?
INIQUITOUS IV
True, but he did penalise Hibs only the once in a game against us. And waited until the last minute to do so.
IQ4,
I get it, the clock is ticking indeed, work needs done, yes it does.
But let me pitch this idea,,,
Everyone needs a break sometime and as you cannae have it during the season the first two weeks of June are the traditional football weeks off.
Shaun & Fozzy just went on vacation.
Now you might say they shouldn’t have.
They just recently found out Martin was staying, just recently discovered their services were wanted again, just recently returned from their summer break and need to get their heads back into the game.
I might be forgetting the fact they are probably under contract until the end of June, so technically an employee.
Like I say I see us competing for the headlines come the weekend. They will unveil Derek on Friday, we counter with the Double winning dream team back at the helm and darn the hare we care.
Hail Hail
Iheanacho is a good footballer, but not a good goal scorer. Simply doesn’t score enough to be Celtic’s number 1 striker. Especially, if the team plays the same goal shy style as this season
but there’s no comparison to Lukaku
lukaku has scored more goals (90 in 126) games for Belgium, than Iheanacho has scored in his entire 11 year professional career (75 Goals in 324 games)
Iheanacho is a Great squad player, if he can stay healthy. But that seems to be a big if.
as Mahe says, they need a number one striker who can score. Including at European level. They aren’t cheap. Which I think makes it unlikely Celtic would opt to pay Iheanach’s wages for a back up (I heard he was on around 35k per week)
unless Celtic miss out on targets 1 -5, in which case they make go for Iheanacho at the last minute
1-1 final score.
Personally, I think Iheanacho’s goals were as important to us as Maeda’s. Makes no sense not to keep him.
Celger,
Financially there isnt room for both.
We use a one two three system ie main striker on good money, backup on middle wages, and third choice on the lowest tier fighting to get the next tier money.
They wont be breaking that, not with Osmond looking good on a third tier contract. If anything he should get the pay bump and a longer contract.
Hail Hail

About half the games kick off at 6pm and 9pm your time. It was two in the bloody morning for the Scotland game, and the next one is 11o’clock at night. You’ve got off lightly.
3.am. here in Spain for Scotland and midnight this week.
Bobby,I usually get home about 1pm West Coast, 4pm East Coast, and you guys are already watching the World Cup!? A 7pm on each coast? Nah, lets do it while the natives are working. Bloody joke.
MAHE
There are three or four games a day, spread over eight to eleven hours. Not easy to please everyone, nor for anyone to watch all the games.
Its catered to the European timezone is my point.
Ill stop moaning, for now.
MAHE
Trust me, it is not catered for European time zones.
I note Motherwell took their time, and narrowed it down to af well thought of foreigner.
We have a fresh challenge from ‘Well. If this manager is good we should snag some of their employees.

Mahe et al. Don’t disagree with the opinions on Kelechi. He cannot be number 1 or 2 and 35,000 per week is not an option. He is not a Lukaku but he can score when needed. He can be a forceful presence, as proven last year. If he is interested, squad player with reduced wage but performance bonuses. He doesn’t have a lot of options at this stage of his career, and we don’t either.
Hail Hail
Bobby, fair enough, I hold my hands up, its a timezone thing.
Hail Hail
MAHE
To be honest, it’s a too many teams thing. 48 is a joke.
Cheers Leggy 👍
Just arrived at hotel, cases dumped now time for some beer 🍺 🍺🍺
Wee bit disappointed that the Egyptian fans didn’t sing:
🎶Pharaohs a grand old team to play for 🎶
Isn’t it weird that we’re probably going to lose Engels for £25m+ yet Ratkin is playing at the WC and he isn’t?
Billy
No idea what Ratkin offers to Belgium, he had 4 touches of the ball, 2 of them were in the 86th minute 😳
BILLYBHOY
Some managers rate some players and others don’t. Matt O’Riley has hardly kicked a ball for two years, Kyogo for eighteen months, and Kühn for a year. Mind you, for years most players leaving us for decent cash found their careers going backwards. Between Dalglish and Petrov, I think only McClair was really successful.
BMCUWP
Won’t be able to sleep tonight thinking of other ex Celts who made it in England. Henrik? But I don’t think that counts. Just thought….Paddy Crerand, my boyhood hero.
Prestonpans Bhoys
in fairness to Raskin he put a great ball in to Lukaka who headed over when he should’ve scored.
Engels should be In Belgium squad but lack of team cohesion and settled position affected his game
CELGER
You could say that Bertie Auld made his mark. Got sent off on his debut for chinning Johnny Haynes (I think) then, on his way off, decked Fulham’s big bruiser of a centre half who wanted to have a quiet word about it!
Thinking this is not a game for staying awake. Probably means I’ll waken up to read about a late goalfest.
The Saudis have a strategy for their free kicks and corners.
And it worked! 1-0.
I have Spain, Argentina, Belgium and Uruguay in my pool. Thought I was home and dry. Was already counting my winnings. But looking like That Ferrari may have to wait another 4 years😫
Ugarte smacks post from 30 yards.
If Augustin Canobbio played in the UK rather than for Fluminense in Brazil, he would swiftly be christened Knobbio.
If the games so far are any guide, we might see Senegal, Iraq, Algeria and Jordan trouble the favorites tomorrow.
1-1. Araujo

Shirley the amount of money you make defending the rapscallions on here you’ve enough for 10 ferraris.🏎
At game start, temp was 31-33C with humidity on field making it feel like 36-42C.
Saudis under the cosh now.
Uruguay is an amazing football country, considering their population is only about 60% of Scotland’s.
The referees have generally been excellent, letting play flow, no fussiness, and with little patience with fake injuries.

One day I’ll post a story about Bertie Auld when I was back for the Lions 40 th Anniversary bash at Parkheid……what a great guy he was, the kind of Scotsman I really miss.
C76
now that Big Packy is posting less often, my SC workload has dropped by about 90%! That can’t be a co-incidence!
(I’m sure he’ll have something to say if he reads that! :). )
Goal Elijah!
Lovely first touch and volley.
Just buy him, Celtic!
If we don’t, the Huns will.

If I get on the mamajuana (not the stuff you smoke) I may be needing a lawyer the night 😀🤣🤣🤔🫗
Taremi crashes shot off the post for Iran.
Incredible attendance at this game. Must be a huge number of Iranian-Americans present. Crowd looks like 70,000.
C76
ill tell you what I tell most of my pals… if you are going to do something that needs a lawyer, please try to do it before midnight, as I’m getting too old to be getting out of my bed and traipsing about at all hours of the night.
🙂
1-1. Ramin. Ominous for New Zealand.
