Wrong Again, Jacko!
Morning,all.
I had the pleasure of another visit to Celtic Park on Sunday, and I have to say it was time well spent. Obviously because of the family and friends that I was with, but also the performance and the result. Everything from back to front was a pleasure to watch, and much anticipated beforehand when we saw the team.
At the back, we had the return of AJ. No offence to Big T, but AJ is our right back and he let us know it. Scalesy kept his place, and Valle got a well-deserved runout. Up front, kinda sruggling for choice due to injuries, Yang got another go at the right wing berth. But much as I really want the guy to succeed, I’m of the opinion that he can’t quite hack it.
Maeda was Maeda, we ain’t gonna change him, and to be honest, the same could be said for Kyogo. Try as much as you like, they play how they play and do what they do.
As MAHE mentioned yesterday, the big deal was in midfield. CalMac was given a rare day off, which meant Reo, Arne and Paolo in midfield. And boy, did they make hay. But, as I said, this has already been covered,so let’s move on.
Sunday’s result meant that we had only lost twice in 2024, an achievement which we should recognise. No, it isn’t quite up there with the Invincible Season, of course not. But I saw a graph of our number of losses since Fergus took over, and the previous record was only six defeats. It also includes some really surprising numbers from the likes of arch-pragmatist WGS with 13. Even more surprising is that Postecoglu had the same number in 2021, though that is obviously skewed with the couple of months of Lennon at the start of the year.
What cannot be disputed is the twelve defeats in 2018, which is BR Mk I. His last year with us. Has he learned that pragmatism, or is he still going gung-ho due to the gap in quality between us and the rest of Scottish football? I don’t know, and I genuinely don’t care either. As long as I’m allowed a wee smirk every so often.
The next game is on Thursday, which is the first match of The New Year. I know that you are all looking forward to it as much as I am, and I’ll preview it on the day. Not much point really in any of us pretending otherwise. Not so much do or die, as shit or bust for the huns. I can’t wait.
Less than a week after the senior football writer in the Daily Record told us that the title race was back on, Keith Jackson was forced to eat some humble pie. Some going, Keith. Last week you had to eat humble pie because you’d been telling us all for months that Clement was a dud but hey, maybe not-then lo and behold you had to eat another large portion because you were right all along! Tough gig…
Me,well. A fourteen point lead going into 2025 is just fine and dandy. No lead is ever big enough as far I’m concerned. But you know what? As long as it isn’t 3-3 and another moral victory for them on Thursday, I’ll be happy enough.

If it were up to little old forgiving me I’d still hang SDM for the crimes he committed against Scottish Football and Scottish Society in terms of cultural harm and financial harm to services that would have been improved by the money that went into his and greedy players pockets.
I’d also jail those in the media who have covered it up to line their own pockets.
Calton…a good few years ago I read an article in the Herald’s money section. A company started by Murray and his son ‘bought’ Rangers off themselves for an amount I can’t remember but think it was £1m but the sale terms contained a clause that it could only be sold on for £160m. I would reckon this was about 10 years before they folded. It probably partly explained, not completely, the length of time that SDM took to sell RFC. I’m not looking to open up the discussion on this old, old story especially when we’re riding high and they’re struggling but yours and Bad’s comments about Butcher and Woods etc sparked a few memories!

PB- a farcical situation, should have been settled before a ball was kicked this season, Aberdeen should have kicked up fk,and should have pushed for Barron not to play until they were paid,at least not against Aberdeen
McCaff.
SDMs testimony to the First Tier Tribunal about why he used ebts to buy players was completely ignored by LNS.
The reality is so bad, it is difficult to take in the full extent of his corruption.

Unlike you.
Watch him and don’t believe the (un)hype
Auldheid…as I said earlier I didn’t intend to open up a discussion about them. But…I think it’d be easy to take in the full extent of the cheating and corruption – if we knew the full story. Murray was a lying, cheating arrogant charlatan, that much we know. How far into society, government his influence stretched will never be known, there’s undoubtedly big names who’ve been involved. You don’t get to have his kind of wealth, real or imagined, without friends in high places looking for a wee backhander. Just ask Sir Kier Starmer…

“When was the last time the Huns won a Title that was without financial irregularities? 86/87??”
When you think about the huge amount of money they spent to win that title, your answer is probably 77-78.

Thanks for taking time to reply.
Although it had to be addressed to me as I pointed to what might govern the thinking at Board level and higher.
There was no suggestion of tinkering in my post only what Celtic at Board level have to consider what supporters do not.
In any case at the higher level UEFA have already taken steps that cannot be described as tinkering in increasing the Solidarity Payments to clubs who do not receive CL money.
That increase would be agreed by member clubs and associations so when something is done as a result of sound principle to help football grow through competitiveness I wouldn’t call following a sound principle ” tinkering”.
I thought bringing the interdependence factor to attention might lead to a better appreciation of Board decisions and actions taken which you have mentioned.
No idea why you would think I was advocating tinkering quite the opposite in line with your thinking.

Sparked a nice wee NYE debate here.
If I’m being generous, the 87 Title, despite spending money and obtaining debt to do so, I’d count as legitimate, if only in keeping with the spend, spend, spend attitude of Tories of the time.
Ironically, by starting the spending boom in 86 they had to sell and thus enter into the greasy palms of SDM. Without him, Rangers would probably have been a very different animal indeed. Alive, but different. In a way, Marlborough and Holmes facilitated the death of them.
I can live with that one.

OGLACH from last night, apologies for not replying to your post. had to put the wife to bed👍now the song the merry ploughboy ive sung it at parkhead never sung it at celtic park😎 tannadice, dens park, east end park, Ibrox fir park, love street, rugby park, the list is endless but we used to sing the bayonets slash the orange sash to the echo of the Thomson gun, now you being a proud oirishman might disagree with that, but did you ever sing it in the jungle at parkhead, let me know👍
Steve,
No, you’re right.
it’s a crass thing to say about a Celtic player anyway 👍

Id be starting Valle regardless. His pace matches up better against Cerny
and Im hearing Tavpen asked Santa for an anvil for Xmas, which he promptly dropped on his foot! Apparently, he has taken so many whippings from Maeda that he just couldnt face another one, so was looking forward a way to avoid having to face him again

Rooney “mutualled” at Plymouth.
———————————
Hi Bobby:
Good to see you oot ‘n’ aboot without adult supervision.🤣
Rooney getting canned this season by Plymouth was forecast the day he was appointed by a certain US poster on here with a daft moniker. Canny mind who it was.🤔
After totally disastrous spells at DC United, then Birmingham, it was completely inexplicable why Plymouth appointed him. He has zero management talent whatsoever, not one single iota. I used to watch his post game interviews at DC United and think “Good grief!” The way the US journalists hung on t his words reminded me of the great Peter Sellers movie, “Being There”, where everyone thought the simple gardener was some kind of guru. Plymouth obviously did no background research, because from time to time we would see him in Irish pubs, so pished he couldn’t speak, and that’s when he was playing!!
I’ll say one thing about Beckham. Despite being inarticulate, and not being the sharpest tool in the box, just like Rooney, he was savvy enough to know he would never be a successful manager. He didn’t even try, despite knowing his name would open the doors at many clubs. He also probably figured out that it would take him several attempts to earn his badges, just like Slippy G.

I’ll be extremely surprised as well if Valle starts tomorrow, as the games on Thursday 😜😃
As much as I’d have complete confidence in Valle to start and do well, like McCaff I think Brendan will go with experience, then unleash Alex when and if required.
He’s going to be a very good left back for someone, no doubt

Holyhead Road in County Cov — very posh once you were past the Retail Park.
Lots of nice houses built in the 50’s — car industry was in its pomp and paying good money.
Times change though.
Cov has lost it’s IKEA.
The old Taxi plant is gone.
The retail park was once the Alvis works.
The Massey Ferguson office block went in 2012.
The station area has been transformed.
Whitley has doubled in size and is now connected to the airport.
Cov Uni has grown like topsy but will struggle if they allow in fewer overseas students.
Town centre is still a shrine to 60’s planning — as in a *hit hole.
Plus Flannelly’s on Holyhead Road has closed.
Watched some challenging Euro performances in there back in the day.
Seemed to be a local institution.
Wayne Rooney vs Football management — discuss …
He should have bought himself a sheepskin coat and hired some good quality coaching support.
He seems to love the game but just doesn’t have what it takes to be a manager.
Dipped into Hollow Hollow to see if rumours about Tav (pen) were correct. Seems so, but the optimism spouted by some is astounding.

Doesn’t look too bad. Score 2-3 quickly and then hang on for our lives would be my approach.”
————————-
Strange to say, I actually feel a bit sorry for Tav (pen). He comes across as a nice guy, with no sign of the bitter enmity towards us held by many of his predecessors. I am sure he is under instruction to not refer to Celtic by name in any interview, and am slightly disappointed he does not have the intestinal fortitude to ignore that. From his point of view however, he is a family man with a short career, and obviously does not want it to end prematurely by incurring the wrath of his bigoted fan base.
