We’ve Had Better Days!
Morning,all.
Well, we’ve had better days. We went into that game yesterday knowing that a victory would send our opponents into meltdown. We didn’t come close to it. Knowing how our opponents would set up against us,how they would press us throughout, that they would target our captain. We did nothing to prevent their gameplan ticking along very nicely thank you for the entire game. Knowing how close they had come to beating us in the last three games away from Celtic Park, and doing nothing whatsoever to prevent them actually achieving their holy grail.
To call it a shocking display doesn’t even come close to how bad we were. Not kidding, there isn’t a single positive that we can take from yesterday. Not even the coin-throwing incident at the end of the game, cos that’s just huns doing as huns do. It wouldn’t matter what the scoreline was, and it probably only happened then because it was our first corner at that pocket of the ground, with Engels a standing target. Though there were a few of our players guilty of standing around at other times during the game.
All day long, we resorted to the easy and predictable pass. All day long, the opposition were primed to intercept it, moving to cut off the next out ball, swarming us at every opportunity. Barely at all did we look for the long ball over the midfield to cut them out of the play and bring in our pacy wingers to take on their makeshift defence. Mind you, those wingers with so many goals and assists between them this season were bloody awful all day. Did either of them beat their fullback once in the entire game? Or attempt to take them on the outside instead of cutting in? Ffs, Maeda was up against a left-footed right back in Yilmaz and didn’t even try that simple party trick. I mention Maeda not to single him out, but as an example of what went wrong. And in truth, it all went wrong. All day.
Ach, I could go on. I won’t. You all watched it, and I’d only be prolonging the agony for you all by refreshing your memories. But our players and manager have to learn from this that there is no room for complacency. Not in these games, not ever. Not even with a fourteen point lead, now reduced to eleven. Some of us are old enough to remember leads of that size and more being thrown away in the past, and I’d rather not go through that again.
We move on to Sunday, a home match against St Mirren. While I want us to learn from today’s very hard lesson, we can’t afford to dwell on it or to let it define and destroy our season and all the good work we’ve put in up until now. Let’s get our side back on track, back on song. The hard work starts now, hot on the heels of an outstanding 2024. There’s a treble up for grabs along with continued participation in Europe. A lot to be happy about and a lot to be hopeful for, and we need to remember that. We are feeling the pain at the moment, but we have a helluva lot to be happy about!

Rooting for the vast underdogs Valencia here.
McManaman just can’t hide his pro-Madrid bias.
Madrid are superb at pass and move.

You should post that tooth up to Parkhead and have it displayed in the trophy room next to the Big Cup and the Inter Milan shirt.
👍
21 players in the Valencia half most of the time. They have won just 2 of their last 24 La Liga games, but hanging on like grim death here.
*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #29 SEVCO 3 CELTIC 0*
Good evening, friends.
In my opinion we have just watched the worst performance of Brendan 2.0’s reign, even eclipsing Dortmund. In my head I was ticking off each individual player making unforced errors and about 30 minutes in I was able to shout ‘full house’. Despite thinking we couldn’t play as bad in the second half we gave that our best shot! When the highlights are 1 brilliant tackle and 1 real moment of genius that was from an offside position then we truly didn’t deserve anything from the game. It could have been worse than 3-0.
The total votes shown below don’t reconcile arithmetically with the number who emailed their nominations. Many voters only suggested 2 names, several just nominated 1 and a few more just wanted me to know that they always try to vote but simply couldn’t offer any names for this game. And thanks to the voter who made me smile by nominating ‘Trusty, Palma and Ralston’.
We have now played 29 games this season, winning 21, drawing 6 and losing 2. We have scored 79 and conceded 23 (domestically it’s 69-13 and in Europe it’s 10-10).
Thanks this time round to the 49 who voted. The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.
Schmeichel: 34
Johnston: 6
Carter-Vickers*: 46
Scales: 0
Taylor*: 16
McGregor: 5
Bernardo: 4
Hatate: 0
Kuhn: 1
Kyogo*: 7
Maeda: 0
Idah: 0
McCowan: 2
Valle: 9
Engels: 0
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Triggers Broom FC are –
Carter-Vickers – 5 Points
Schmeichel – 4 points
Taylor – 3 points
Valle – 2 points
Kyogo – 1 point
And the overall positions after 29 games played are –
47 points – Kuhn
41 points – Bernardo, Scales
36 points – Hatate, Schmeichel
34 points – Maeda
33 points – McGregor
28 points – Engels
22 points – Carter-Vickers, Trusty
21 points – Johnston A
17 points – Valle
16 points – McCowan
14 points – Kyogo, Taylor
7 points – O’Riley
5 points – Idah
4 points – Forrest
3 points – Welsh
1 point – Yang
0 points – Holm, Johnston M., Nawrocki, Palma, Ralston, Turley
Next up is a home league game against St Mirren this Sunday with a 3.00pm kick off.

TET does not post on blogs any longer but his wife whom I’ve met a couple of times including a marvelous weekend stay in their cave posts on Facebook and I think it was TETs birthday the other day.
Old Grumpy the term I use when replying to her comments is doing fine although they are thinking of returning home.
Anyone want to buy a cave with a swimming pool with the Celtic Crest on the bottom?
If I were 20 years younger I’d be up for it.
Game being played at frenetic pace. Galacticos now frantic. Look as if they have 12 men rather than 10.

Hi Youngheid:
Is it Plato’s Cave?🤣😂😅

Modric equalizes 1-1.
Determination, pinpoint passing, and the brilliant, evergreen 39 year old scores a belter.
Madrid are like Liverpool. Makes no difference to them going down to 10 men.
AULDHEID thanks for the info👍👍👍❤
Bellingham is a tremendous talent, but I see a fair bit of Real’s games, and he seems like such a smug prick, it is hard to root for him, even with all his skill. Apparently was not liked by the players at Dortmund who thought he was too much ‘me, me’ and not a team player. Mind you, Real have their fair share of talented egos, and they somehow seem to make it work
AULDHEID now have you heard from KOJO recently😎😎😎😎

One other thing…
I don’t think our midfield would have been so utterly dominated if we’d started with Engels, Bernardo and McCowan.
I think the days of Cal and Reo both starting should be coming to an end. They both lack the pace required. That was a horrible watch yesterday and those two were largely culpable.

I would go along with that as all will improve from playing but can they snarl?
HI MIKE nice to see you posting, hope you and seamus are well👍👍❤

Eccentric character who may well not be coming back either.

Hi Mike:
Agree 100%. Lost any respect I had for him when he cynically applied for an Irish passport, simply to help Madrid evade some rule on EU vs non EU players.

For a boy of 17 ,to go on that stage and do that is unbelievable

Extraordinary that Johnstone did not once try to find Maeda the same way. I am sure he is instructed not to even try. This makes us predictably one dimensional.

Just one of the extraordinary things about yesterday that generates conspiracy theories.

Bassa Bellingham scores winner. Sickener for Valencia. Came from Taylor/Scales type pass in dangerous area. Suicide.

Some very interesting views regarding Rodgers and his tactical approach?
Very hard to condemn his approach taken, when we have had such a successful first have to the season.
However it hasn’t been achieved by being perfect either, and numerous concerning issues have risen there ugly head at times, no more so than yesterday.
What is staggering at present, and has been in existence for some time now also, is that the baldy Belgium waffler is still regarding as no more than a clown?
Yet a fair few would like to regard Rodgers as an elite manager (maybe at Scottish football levels imo)
So how does a clown manager, still outdo a so called elite manager tactically, in 3 out of the past 4 meetings 7/8 months?
Now the theory of the Belgium waffler, might be finding a way of beating the best footballing team in Scotland, and therefore should become the best team in Scotland in return?
For Rodgers the theory of keeping hold of the ball constantly, means very little chance of goals getting conceded, and enough moments should be created to go on and win the eventually?
Now these 2 managers would be regarded as the best 2 within Scottish football, by some distance now?
And yet both operating with seriously flawed theories and tactical plans in operation imo.
Always had a problem with over coaching, with making players to robotic and unable to express themselves at showing there best attributes as players.
At times I find Rodgers guilty of doing so, with trying to over complicated matters, with thinking he’s actually better and more knowledgeable than he really is as a manager imo?
For the life of me, I don’t understand why our team haven’t got 2 team set up in operation.
Especially when we can be facing the quality of a CL team, to then a anti football SPFL team, trying to play for a nil all draw.
Yet a 433 formation will still be used in both games, against vastly differences in quality?
To me, this is nothing more than laziness upon a coaching front, and getting a robotic attitude at times in return?
Is it really that difficult to have a 433 with a 343 for instance in operation for ourselves?
Can’t players make the necessary differences required, that wouldn’t be to massive either?
And all this with 5 subs available these days?
Currently nearly every team we play now how we are going to set up, along with a good idea who those players will be, and knowing who to expect as changes within the game?
Would they be so prepared, if it was a guessing game upon how our team will set up?
Would like to think that with Tierney returning, it allows for a 343 to be maybe introduced, as this constant 433 is looking a bit jaded at times imo?
I fail to see how players can struggle to make adjustments, especially when they are mainly international players and have to make adjustments when at international level?
For clarity, I don’t have an issue with a 433 formation, but do for every single game?
Sorry for the long post, as this issue has been bothering me for years now, and the levels of our coaching and management skills, were shown up as been totally lazy yesterday, and believe we are entitled to expect better, for the money getting paid out to provide so imo?
Rennes lose 3-2 at Nice. They make 3 subs, but Jota remains on bench. They are 12th in Ligue1, 4 points above relegation play off spot.
Palace want to buy Doaks. Liverpool have told them the price is 30 million. Not a bad return on the 600,000 fee Liverpool paid to Celtic two years ago. Plus Im sure Liverpool more than already made the fee back from the loan fee Middlesbrough would have paid for Doaks this year.
Johnno:
Very good post. In effect, Sevco went 4-5-1 yesterday, with Igamane the point man. Both full backs overlapped, particularly Yilmaz, so we were simply overwhelmed from middle to back.
Why we didn’t respond immediately on change of possession to target Propper, or the gap left by Yilmaz is just baffling. We have zero counter attack ability, despite 3 greyhounds up front, and we are just so frigging ponderous and slow building from the back, it fries my brains.😱

Perhaps his record against other clubs, especially away is a reason.
I would not call 1 home league win, I LC loss, I Home dead rubber draw, I league loss away to Celtic and 1 SC loss as “outdoing”, although I think he is a manager who will gradually get more wins against clubs away from home than he has managed so far this season. (the result/performance v Hibs might be an indicator) that will reduce the points gap if remaining two league games see points shared and other clubs start taking motre points of us than they have managed to date.
As regards two formation approaches, until now what BR has achieved comes into “if it ain’t broke” category based on the players at his disposal.
I said until now because yesterday suggests he will at least match Celtic in points from games we play each other which makes results against other clubs of greater significance than they currently are.
I think it would easier to recruit a bit differently to cover the weaker areas we all see than try and adjust the formation for 4 games only given practice makes perfect, but either way it would be foolish to ignore that Clements is no mug.
He is clearly following R2ngers Board policy of a reducing wage bill and has their long term backing so Celtic need to look long terms too which is perhaps why it looks like BR is going to remain another 3 years trusting and backing BR.
The only reason the Board would not is not down to personal issues but to retain an element of competitiveness that football depends on to attract paying customers in person or via streaming services.
