Cool Hand Luke
Morning,all.
My goodness, that was a terrific game of football last night. Yes, it should have been well beyond Dundee long before they equalised late in the first half, and yes, we did retake the lead not long after the break, but they threw the bloody kitchen sink at us for that second period, and I thought we were fortunate to get the late point.
I don’t often say that.
I did point out in yesterday’s article that the home side weren’t to be taken lightly, that they would come at us a lot more than their near neighbours did about three weeks ago. But even I wasn’t prepared for the onslaught they unloaded on us. And this was them with multiple absentees from their squad due to illness and injury!
Tony Docherty can be well proud of his charges. But in truth, so can Brendan Rodgers. Under the cosh for so long, Celtic still managed to keep driving forward even to the last, and it took an added time penalty, a clear handball, for us to get our first equaliser and the final goal of the contest.
I reckon every Dundee player last night will be very pleased indeed with their own performance on the night. I don’t think the same can be said of every Celtic player. I’m not going to name anyone, as that is unfair. But it is worth pointing out that when players are responsible for missing sitters at one end, or causing chaos through dreadful defending at the other, or misplacing nearly every pass they tried, then it makes life bloody difficult for everyone else. But these players have shown their true selves on many other occasions, so a quiet boot up the arse from BR will probably suffice.
As will a changed line-up at the weekend.
To the goals, and there were some damned good ones. Five minutes gone, a deep cross from Taylor works the one-two with McCowan. Rushing in on goal, he has the option of heading square for Kyogo, but wisely decides to put the header into the far corner past Carson. An absolute beaut, and didn’t Luke know it! He must have been knackered after that celebration!!!
We then settled down for half an hour of Celtic doing what Celtic do in these games. Bore the opposition to death. Yes, we created a few chances. One or two should definitely have been taken. An air shot from Idah and a powerful header off the bar from Bernardo were probably the pick of them. But the next goal came when we got a corner with five minutes remaining.
This isn’t the first time I’ve pointed out that the opposition are more dangerous from our corners than we are, but that’s what happened. The usual garbage saw Dundee break like lightning, seventeen seconds it took them to put it in the net. A beautiful finish too, edge of the area to the opposite corner. At that stage, it was against the run of play. But then, fannying about on a 1-0 lead is never too clever.
Second half saw us regain the lead, a bit of a stramash-remember them?-leading to a close-in header from Yang. This time, we didn’t have time to fanny about on our lead. Dundee just whipped up the park and equalised, the basterts! The ball was cleared to our left back area, on the touchline near halfway. All Trusty had to do was put it out for a throw, let the players regroup. Nope, that’s too much for him, he’ll just do nothing and let the home player waltz past him with the ball. And pass it to the corner of the six-yard box for his pal to put it in off CCV. Really really bad defending, no other words for that.
After that, it was Celtic’s turn to be under the cosh. Sure, we were still dominating possession-yeah,like that’s so important these days!-but Dundee were creating more chances and looking more likely. And when they got a corner with about fifteen to go, they just crowded the area, and waited for us to make an arse of it. The impressive Donnelly, only signed last week, rose above Trusty and planted it. I thought he was holding Trusty down, but Robertson wasn’t interested.
Now Celtic were up against it, and we had already used all five subs too. What made it even more difficult was that Dundee were hardly sitting back and defending their lead. We tried shooting from distance-to no effect. We tried the cute pass inside the box-to even less. We tried the through ball to Palma in acres of space-you can guess how that ended. Eventually Kühn tried a shot in added time, his first since he came off the bench. Mo Sylla-no,not that one!-slid in to block it with everything he had. Unfortunately for him, his raised arm was what did the trick, as clear a penalty as you will see Don Robertson give us. Arne Engels is the Cool Hand Luke you want in these circumstances, and he duly obliged. Our second Cool Hand Luke of the night!
This was as hard a game as any of the provincial clubs have given us all season, I reckon. And credit is due to Dundee for a performance that really deserved a bigger audience than turned up on the night. The local public need to give themselves a shake, because they don’t know what they’re missing.

INIQUITOUS IV
Clancy as ref,Walsh on VAR. Aberdeen are getting heehaw tonight.

Hi Bobby:
That was already obvious from the 8 minutes I watched!
HH
Iniquitous IV😊
The Huns don’t need the mibs to help tonight, the sheep defence is doing it for them.
16 what’s your take on the ceasefire?
Sleepy Joe or DT ?
Aberdeen are woeful. Everything they were doing right at the start of the season, they’re now not doing at all. Their left back is as effective at defending as ours is.
Rennes knocked out of French Cup by lower league team Troyes.
Jota did not feature. Neither was he on the bench.
Is he even still with Rennes? Maybe he has been loaned out?
1-0 Spurs
Son scores for Spurs, 0-1.
The difference in this game is the huns get the ball forward extremely fast and have a load of runners getting into the box.
It could also how the sheep set up against them

Drumpf’s followers already claiming he stopped conflict in 24 hours by threatening Netanyahu. That will be the lying drumbeat from now on, until the truth dusappears.
Sheep almost score from the halfway line.

Would love Ange to win this one, but Ah hae ma doots.
IN IV, aljasera did report this morning that Trumps envoys have been travelling around the region for the last two weeks, before the ceasefire was announced. 6 am GMT
As I said 18 months of genocide and nothing, if anything the war lost its news worthiness, and why was that ?
Inter Milan 2-1. Incredibly fast, lethal counterattack. Lauterno.
Hagi is a cheating bassa. Sheep player makes a clean tackle, Hagi kicks his shin and goes down like he’s been clattered, sheep player gets a yellow card.
1-1. Arsenal rare goal from corner.
Arsenal equalise ….. from a corner.
I’m one of those left wing nuts that 16 Roads talks about. But not so stupid that I just believe a man that has all the power on the planet took over 18 months to bring peace to a war his country was suppling the bombs for.
Nobel peace prize anyone?
Arsenal 2-1. Poor goalkeeping, let it go through his arms.
2-1 Arsenal. Spurs caught upfield…and you could see the rest coming.
Got to laugh, reds TV say no consistency from the ref.
Most consisten ref I’ve seen all season, everything for the huns
Arsenal 2-1 now but, 1st goal was clearly a Spurs goal kick.
VAR should be used at incidents like that.
Rebus,
I’ll stick to saying things you can agree with. It’s easier. I think most would agree that allowing a player to run down his contract and have him playing for the first team is not a good move.
I’m joking about Hatate though. He’s not kicked a ball all season. A creative midfielder who gives the ball away for fun but has only managed one assist. At left back he’d be worse than Bolingoli.
Moyes second stint off to a clanger. Everton lose 0-1 to Villa.
Sheep offering nothing but Huns not much better.
Sevco with 19 shots on goal with one third of game to go.
Ferguson on for Bologna. Now Inter 2 Bologna 2.
Tierney coming on.
Barca and Atletico cruising towards Copa Del Rey last 8. Barca just back from a 2 game Super cup tournament in Saudi. They haven’t missed a beat. Up 5-0 after 78 minutes vs Betis.
Inter finish 2-2, 3 points behind Napoli, but with a game in hand.
Aberdeen subs have made a difference
Celtic women up 7-0 vs Ewes.
Looks like a twin disappointment today.
Arsenal win.
Sheep collapse.
Only the 10 or 11 added time tonight and Huns score twice in that time.
What’s the opposite of a New Manager Bounce?
Asking for a worried Sheep 🐑
We haven’t been playing well recently.
We need to strengthen.
I don’t think we will buy in this window. I think we will be looking at loan deals.
I hope we don’t blow it against Young Boys.
Sevco had 29 shots on goal today, compared to our 12 yesterday. They advance the ball faster than we do, and with about one shot every 3 minutes, they are currently creating more scoring opportunities than we are.
It is also a tad surprising how few goals their makeshift back 5 is conceding. It looks like they are following the adage “The best defence is a good attack.”
Keeps the clown in a job, rather than getting someone in who knows what they’re doing
What’s happened to the Aberdeen team that competed for every ball, and kicked everything that moved at CP in October?
We beat them 6-0 in the league cup semi. F….d them good and proper,it seems. Sad,really.
Billy Bhoy & Auldbhoy67 Why should people not mention a fee when discussing players.
Also I have never compared his transfer fee to past players, even though I could have said we paid more for him than we did for French Eddie.
His fee was above his worth (again imho) because as usual Celtic leave everything to the last minute regarding transfers and we are left scampering at the last chap to try and find last minute players.
Norwich were happy for him to sit on the bench or go out on loan as he wasn’t cutting it there……… maybe that shoulda told us he wasn’t rated highly….. but hey ho.
ASWGL
The reason IMO that the price being mentioned is irrelevant is because the seller puts a price they think the player is worth not the player. We as a club set big prices on KT- Jota – Matt – Ajer – French Eddie and as a support were content to take it when the buyers accepted. Not one of those guys lived up to the price tag. Not a single one but now the same supporters complain because we paid over the odds but that was the asking price .

My own view upon the money spent on idah, is currently we are seeing the player with idah, is the one many of us were expecting to see, when he joined us on loan.
That was supposedly the 3M mark.
Even with him doing far better than I was expecting from him, it still didn’t warrant the fee we ended up paying imo.
Once it went above the 5M mark, then it would have been better looking elsewhere?
But Rodgers made it clear enough Idah was a top target of his, so we lost the negotiations before they even started.
Hindsight is easy, but it doesn’t excuse Rodgers in wanting idah so badly, that he’s struggling to get a tune out of him currently.
For that sort of money, along with Rodgers demands of wanting him, you would have thought that the striking department would have been built around him, and not a bit part player providing very little?
What is done is done, so maybe Rodgers has got change in mind, with changing the structure of the team?
Could apply to Trusty also, or maybe I’m living in hope more than reality?
I struggle to understand how a manager gets players in on long term deals. And yet in return don’t fit into the structure of the team that well?
Not unless Rodgers at some point thinks that Trusty can do a job in a 3 man defensive line, and idah can be 1 of a 2 striking position in future?
If not, very little signs of saying money well spent on show imo?
Lyon knocked out of French Cup by fifth tier amateur team on penalties after extra time.
Just amazing.
C’Mon The Broch! ( That’s Fraserburgh, btw 😊 )
My sens is that Celtic overpaid for Idah, as they expected Kyogo to be sold, and so Idah was brought in as his replacement as the new number one striker
