The never ending story

Cor blimey that was a Rollercoaster of a Cup tie, but we march onwards and hopefully upwards. Aim achieved, let’s hope Wednesday brings more of the same.

I’m increasingly of the opinion Celtic need a jolt, like the one last January delivered,,a few fresh faces and more competition for starting berths. But a jolt can arrive in other ways, kudos to the poster who remarked we are as likely to get a doing than hand one out.

Our reaction since Dortmund, our reaction since Ibrox, has been professional, stinging defeats did not derail us and we responded to defeat with subsequent victories. I like what I see as far as team unity goes, I like the fact they celebrate heavily as a group, and I admire the fact this bunch truly tend to turn up when needed, those Champions League points and commanding lead, the Cup, none of those came easy but were earned out on the field of play.
Well, they’ve earned a spot in the 5th round, earned the right to be in contention to go through in Europe.
By supporting our club you’ve earned the right to experience this colossal week and the highs and lows it might deliver, to witness a part of our history being written live.

Kilmarnock are now in the past, and history will record a home win, but there was much more to the story. We write our own story some bloke once said, the latest chapter was certainly fascinating, and we are approaching the stage were the grand plot is unveiled, either genuine heroes or valiant contenders shall emerge, our season to date is one hell of a page-turner. As the page slowly turns to the next, perhaps the defining chapter as the bigger picture gets laid out, I await with giddy anticipation. Sign of a good story.

We are very fortunate in that regard, to follow a team that gives us glory and plenty to talk about, to follow a club that has a history that would make you cry and has put itself into the position to rise up the football pyramid through wholly legitimate means. It’s taken many steps including the slow lane, the old one step back for two or three steps forward routine worked out,,from spending a fiver to be met with a tenner spent elsewhere,,from Koki Mizuno to Arne Engels on the sliding ladder of quality,,what a journey it’s been to reach this point.
We took a step of that journey at the weekend, on Wednesday we can take a giant stride.

Havent been back to Florida in 30 years, but when I was there, the only football was the American variety. Baseball was huge with the Dominican and Cuba ex pats…. but soccer was viewed as something akin to a Communist plot.

Mike, I watched a Micheal Moore documentary and the term redneck comes from a Labour union and the guys on the front line wore red banana’s around their necks and faces to cover them up from the hired thugs paid to break up the strikes.

We move on 80 years and the term redneck is a derogatory term for uneducated and racists.

It’s funny how the narrative changes and names can be turned into what ever the press publish.

IQ4…58 seconds in, corner to Dundee, a wicked cross to the front post sees Simon Murray flick a header into the goal. 1-0 Dundee!

In the 1300’s there was a period when the college of cardinals split, and two rival popes claimed primacy … one based in Avignon in France and another in Italy …before the Benedict/Francis thing, this was referred to papal historians as the period of the Two Popes…

I wonder if the future will refer to the Trump/Musk period as the period of the Two Presidents….

“on the way down, we stopped at a roadside place for dinner …. the lady twigged that we weren’t locals (y’allll have the funniest accents’… ). She pointed out a christmas tree that was in the restaurant, and said ‘that’s a Christmas tree. D’yall celebrate Christmas up in Canader?’… not joking. evidently, Xmas is an American holiday.”

Hi Mike:
Your post struck a chord. In 1984, in Louisville, Kentucky, and really struggling to make myself understood, I was asked, “D’yall celebrate Thanksgiving in Skattland?”

I said, “No, we’re all pretty ungrateful.”

I’m always amazed at Americans appalling knowledge of both history and geography. Around 1986, in a Detroit bank, I was exchanging sterling for dollars. There was one Bank of Clydesdale note among the Bank of England notes. After the teller had silently examined it, and held it up to the light, then the Branch Manager doing the same thing, I was asked, “ Sir, where is Clydesdale?”

The thing is Billy Bhoy, he never actually blew! I think it was him that did that same thing in a R2ngers game? He pointed for a foul but never blew…as if the players knew what he was thinking.
It’s some game, though, a hunner miles sn hour and end to end!

Overhead in the Snake Mountain Boardroom:

Belgian FA Representative: “We would like to discuss terms for Philippe Clement becoming Belgian National Team manager.”

Patrick Stewart: “We would be most reluctant to lose him and would require considerable compensation”

Belgian Rep: “What level of compensation did you have in mind?”

Stewart: “At least £9M pounds sterling.”

Belgian Rep: “Are you willing to negotiate?”

Stewart: “ Perhaps. What kind of figure did you have in mind?”

Belgian Rep: “Zero. No compensation.”

Stewart: “Okay. It’s a deal.”

I heard it slightly differently …

When Stewart was asked about compensation, and said 9 million, the Belgian FA asked ‘are you willing to negotiate?’, to which Stewart said, ‘fine, but we wont pay more than 10 million for you to take him. and there has to be a confidentiality agreement as we dont want our fans to know’

Some sequence of events….ball comes in, Dundee and United players holding each other, so no action. Ball goes over them to the penalty spot, 2 Dundee players wrestle a United player and stop him getting to the ball, should be a penalty to Utd, no action. Ball then bounces about, Utd and Dundee players tangle, Dundee player falls to the ground, ball falls to another Utd player who puts it in the net. Ref gives a foul to Dundee. All in the space of 20 seconds.
Poor decision making by the ref.

A few facts emerged later that I don’t know were reported in the UK.
The youth got off 8 shots before being fatally struck by the Secret Service.
He had been recently punted from his indoor Gun Club for consistent poor marksmanship.
Several expert marksmen stated he had made no allowances for being outdoors with a slight crosswind.
Had he allowed for the very slight wind, Drumpf would have been past history.

Drumpf is the luckiest man alive. If his followers had assassinated Pence on Jan 6, and they came very close to doing so, he would have been impeached, then prosecuted for corruptly trying to alter the Georgia results.

Sol…i think the push on Murray was by his own player, and the foul was actually given for a subsequent foul on another Dundee player on the orbskty mark after the ba’ came back in!!

Hibs (10) vs Celtic (4)
