Ugly Rumours
Morning,all.
In football-apart from Celtic winning,of course-there is surely only one thing better than the huns getting beat. And that’s them losing the deciding goal in added time just after they had equalised. Hopefully it knocks the stuffing right out of them-it finally shut McCoist up at last, which is a blessing! A couple of additional injuries on the night won’t do them any favours either, but then, there are still about ten days left in the window for them to buy someone.
You won’t see me donating to the whip-round though!
The reason I start the article talking about them is really only to allow me to discuss our own dealings (or rumours, as business has been non-existent) this month. Few of us won’t have seen Wednesday night’s match, even if it was only a highlights package. All who did will have been mightily impressed that Kyogo hit a first half hat trick. Has he got his mojo back again,we wondered. Or is it just a faint echo of better times?
Of course, the question is academic on a number of fronts. Not least that all three were chalked off! But then came the news from the various rumour mills and “insiders” that he was over in France yesterday to put the finishing touches to a contract with Rennes. Surely one of our most puzzling transfer deals in recent years, especially given the timing. I gave my thoughts on this in Tuesday’s article, and they haven’t changed. I could accept him leaving in the summer-he clearly hasn’t taken to the role that BR requires him to play as it doesn’t play to his strengths-but to sell him now, with an important European tie in Birmingham next week plus two league matches against Dundee and Motherwell before the close of the window makes no sense.
If the rumours are true, and it now looks a nailed-on certainty, he will go with my best wishes. I’m sure that is the case for most of us. But the timing really sucks. It leaves us with only Idah and Maeda as two recognised strikers, neither of whom features there regularly from the start. Worse of course is that Maeda is definitely suspended for the Villa game, and quite possibly the first leg of the play-off. We also have the largely untried but promising Kenny and Cummings, the latter of whom still hasn’t signed a contract extension. I can’t in all honesty recommend this move whatsoever, and for a derisory €10m it makes less sense by the minute.
One rumour getting a fresh airing is the return of Jota, who is ironically unwanted at Rennes. That is the second club where he has failed to settle since he left us only eighteen months ago, but we all remember how outstanding he was in his two years with us. Just a pity that as a winger, he might find himself beating half the opposition then finding there’s no striker in the box for the final ball! Would I break the habits of a lifetime by welcoming back a player who had played for us previously? Well, I always want our signings to succeed, and he will be no different. But my indifference to prodigals remains. Wanting him to succeed and expecting him to match up to his previous standards are hardly the same thing.
The same can be said about another rumour, this time concerning Tierney. We all know the main reason he left, which was to avoid being maimed in Scotland with the tacit approval of the referees. I certainly didn’t blame him for wanting out, his career wouldn’t have lasted very long had he remained with us. He started very well indeed at Arsenal, and their fans certainly appreciated him. But then, for some reason, Arteta took a serious dislike to him and dropped him from his plans. I don’t suppose his various injuries helped; managers definitely prefer their players to be injury-free, not injury-prone. The rumour, as most of you will know, is that he has signed a pre-contract to join us in the summer, with the clubs currently negotiating a loan deal till the end of the season.
Signing a left back is fast becoming a priority for us. Taylor shows no sign of staying on, and Valle is rumoured-that word again-to be on the verge of leaving for lowly Como in Italy. I presume he likes lakes because they aren’t much of a side, but that is for him and Barcelona to decide. It leaves us with only Scales and the teenager Frame as left backs on the books, so you can understand the urgency. But those injury concerns won’t go away, even if none of us would wish it to be the case.
I don’t like discussing rumours, but the point of doing so in an article is that…
All in all, it has been a dreadful January transfer window so far. I wouldn’t go as far as to compare it to 2009, but it doesn’t seem to have been planned out in advance. So much for our new head of recruitment, for the manager with a plan and an eye for a player, for our CEO who is rapidly turning into the new absentee landlord. We’ve had an excellent season so far, and I’d hate to see it go up in smoke just because of some strange recruitment decisions. Every time I think the bad old days of ringing up the cash register at the first sight of a euro or pound note had gone, something always seems to bring them back into my nightmares. As ever, we have no say in the matter, no voice in the decision-making. But it doesn’t mean we have to be happy about it.

Reading back after Wednesday night, whilst we were all absolutely delighted about how things turned out, and maybe had a wee laugh about a certain score last night, I think the biggest result may belong to one of this site’s regulars. Delighted for you Rebus, great news for you, and no doubt your family too.
Good shout Billy, if you hit a golf ball today it’ll land with a British Airways luggage tag attached to it

Rebus as far as I can see the Ross Stewart rumour came from a WhatsApp group who are known to sniff copious amounts of bathroom cleaners.
Lots of rumours going around Kvistgaarden of Brondby, Barry of Villa, Osula of Newcastle, and an odd one of 17yr old Chris Rigg from Sunderland.
They are all rumours and none substantial, it’s a wait n see..
AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA ,rebus great news 👍👍❤❤ magua I didnt sleep a wink last night knowing the great Glasgow rainjurs got beat, and if you believe that you will believe anything😎😎😎now hard hat on, loved Kieran Tierney when he played for us was obviously dismayed when he went to arsenal, but here is the but ,every horrible clogger in the spl will be out to get him and he will get no support from the orange order referee’s in scotland if you think otherwise tell me❤❤

Official statement from Celtic, damage to the stadium…decision to be made in the morning about the match going ahead…

Billy Bhoy,
You are right, I apologise for the terse reply.
I’ve previously laid out what I see as the unfairness of the criticism ( and the amount of it ) surrounding GT so will leave that just now.
At times in games, depending on how it’s going, we do look 2-1-4-3.
Calmac taking it from the ch’s and playing from there gives us triangles and, depending on which side, four again in the middle.
This is invariably GT who plays in and across that middle.
We can and do then build further with options forward.
If those options are blocked off, nine behind the ball can do that, especially the first forty five and next ten-15 after the break, then it makes sense to keep it, move them and try other angles.
Doing that takes stamina…GT.
He, and others, are replaced because they are burst, new men on, keeps the tempo up.
Taylor’s job in there is not to be creative, more to keep possession, overlap our winger and create an overload there and further forward.
AJ plays a more orthodox overlap wide and is available for cover should Taylor be forward. The way it should be, the two of them in the middle crowds out our midfielders, particularly Engels I feel and is asking for it with a lumped forward clearance.
Opposition know this and, if they have the foresight, lump it to the area GT has just came out of.
Where’s Taylor is the cry !
If, for example, we have…CCV…Trusty…AJ…Calmac and more orthodox mid’s, we lack pace to catch breakaways ( GT is last man for our corners ) and could congest that midfield area.
Exactly what opposition managers want.
You could say Taylor may have returned to Trusty but he won the penalty being so far forward.
He’s not a midfielder, nor an accomplished defender but is an invaluable player in our system and success.
Craig 76,
Good on you 👋👋👋

I looked out the window at lunchtime and there was a sheet of plastic or something wrapped around my daughter’s car bonnet. I put my jacket on to go and investigate, it was a flexible plastic tray, about 4 feet by 3 feet and the wind was forcing it onto the car and under the bumper, I actually had to use a bit of force to peel it off! I’m not sure exactly what it was but as I pulled it off the car the wind caught it, took it 20 foot in the air and 100 yards doon the road…don’t worry, I’d already let it go!
Anyway I hope everyone’s safe and damage free!
Rebus…brilliant news re your health! A great start to the year, sir!

Good response mate 👍
I agree with much of your analysis there.
However, if GT is still our first choice LB at the end of the window I’ll be very disappointed.

Unfortunately today’s severe weather conditions have caused some damage at Celtic Park.
Our stadium and safety staff are currently unable to fully assess the extent of the damage due to the ongoing extreme conditions.
In light of this and in order that we communicate fully and openly with our fans, in the interests of supporter safety, we are unable to confirm at this stage whether the match tomorrow between Celtic and Dundee (Jan 25) will be able to proceed.
Of course, we will be doing all we can to ensure that it does.
A full assessment and decision will be made as early as possible tomorrow morning (Saturday) and we will update our supporters as soon as we can.
We thank our supporters sincerely for their understanding.

Said this on the other channel:
That game tomorrow should be off. Debris all over the place, trains cancelled till noon apparently, more importantly damage to the stadium. To be clarified tomorrow morning!
Doubt if I’ll be there anyway, 20 foot fence down all over the garden. May have saved my greenhouse, find out tomorrow if its in the garden or North Berwick 🙄
16 ROADS im forever grateful to BOBBY, he let me back on here exactly a week ago for posting absolute shite, ive never met bobby but spoke to him on the phone many times. an absolute gent❤❤❤
So if Brendan and Celtic knew for months that Kyogo wanted away, why wasn’t a striker brought in the first day of the window? As per usual, we have sabotaged our own negotiating position, which will become even more desperate as the month progresses. We will again have to pay well over the odds, which will subtract from the fee gained for Kyogo.
Another clusterfcuk omnishambles from our crack recruiting team.

Agree, I’m sure the reason we paid £9m for Adam was the club piss farting about….

I’ve got mixed feelings about the possible postponement of tomorrows game.
On the one hand it would give the players a good rest before the Villa game. On the other hand it would prevent KT, Jota and Kvistgaarden from bonding with their new teammates before Wednesday.

Sky saying that Celtic are trying to get KT on loan.
Craig 76,
One of CCB’s favourite sayings is the big man’s got it aw wrote doon. Certainly seems to be true in the case of that guy.
IQ,
Agree totally about our bargaining position now clubs know we need a striker. My only hope is we have one signed but are not releasing the news just yet.

John 8:7 CSC. 🙏🍀
I have a feeling that Louie Barry is our prime target, not Kvistgaarden.
Two Bundesliga clubs are interested in the Dane, Frankfurt and Leipzig. Frankfurt are very interested and have oodles of money from the Marmoush deal. I also think Kvistgaarden would choose them over us. Leipzig may lose Sesko so they are keeping the pot boiling on the Dane. Both of these clubs can outbid us.
Barry through the middle was the plan but AV are stalling. I know his preferred position is LW but his secondary one is CF. Maybe AV will loosen up after they play us. By then they will see what additional bids come in for him. I do not think there is any way they want to keep him as a potential first team choice. Having a choice of three from Kuhn Maeda, Jota, Barry, Idah provides lots of variations. Remember jota’s secondary position is as a secondary striker.
Now for a bit of heresy. Igamane from Sevco would be a great buy. Offer 6-7 million for him and see what happens. 😈
I am speculating but if Jota replaces Maeda on the left there will not be as much tracking back to support the left defence. Will BR drop the inverted role and use KT as a wingback? All will be revealed in time. Exciting, tho’, is it not?
Finally, not many would have predicted that Kyogo was for the off, on the basis of his effort in the YB game. He gave it everything. That was his farewell to the fans. He did not slack off one bit.

Hi ATOB:
You’s think we would have learned from the Idah-Norwich fiasco. I agree with Rebus67 that our chances of landing Kvistgaarden ( a far better player than Idah ) are slim, giving Eintracht have £57M to play with. We had our chances to get him over the past 2 seasons.
A bit puzzled by your last comment – why would we not release news of a new signing?
Cheers,
HH
