Battle in Brum
Who woulda thunk it?
Here we are on matchday 8 already going through, string of big results in the bag, ready to go to battle in Brum,,,with a single striker.
Of course Maeda can slot in, but he’s unavailable. I don’t even know if Kenny can play, either through registration or Cup tied. Kuhn might be an option but with no Boy Wonder (he returns!) in the squad nor Jamsie fit, the German is needed on the right more than ever because the left will need respite.
Decisions, decisions.
Adam is in for a very tough, long and tiring night, and now Jota is officially signed it’s clear either or both of Yang and Palma shall depart, but ironically they’ll probably play tonight having been deemed lacking. Jota is a big step up from either, and now he shall have a big Baptism of fire in the knockouts.
The managers team talk should be straightforward, put any thoughts of already qualified away, you’re representing the badge and Calmac will preach the same message.
I would say Celtic don’t play for draws, but apparently we have in this competition. A forward planner might opt for using this tough away game as a dressed rehearsal for the knockout phase away game we shall play. With that in mind, plus the players unavailable I just see the usual approach, I think the occasion calls for a very workmanlike performance, nonstop pressing and running trying to match them or make an option. I’m thinking Bernardo over Reo and getting Luke on the pitch at some stage. Engels needs the experience.
Very tough position for Greg to be in,,certain to be targeted with his personal Samurai bodyguard missing in action,,,there’s no point playing Valle as he’s off soon and there’s still a chance GT could sign the new improved offer that’s widely rumored to be on the table.
I recall absolutely biting my fingernails going down to Old Trafford under Fergie, who later asked Van Der Saar ‘Are you buying that wee Japs DVD, because you’re f#$king in it twice!’ (another reason hes never Jocks peer, he couldnt/wouldnt acknowledge a fantastic from range free kick but ironically later cheered when his own CR7 scored a bucketload). Similarly when the much applauded Pep came to Parkhead with his soon to conquer Europe galatians of Mancessity.
I recall a Bambi on Ice striker called Amido Balde putting a Brendan Rodgers Liverpool side away, I recall Arsenal needed to cheat to best the Bhoys under the much vaunted Arsene Wenger who is an alleged football purist but he never seen it when it came to the unsavoury nature of his team.
Although I often fear the worst, our record against the EPL is respectable, in my opinion.
But here’s the rub, the EPL (and I’m an avid watcher) has changed a lot, it’s a different kettle of fish that’s moved from a 4-4-2 physical setup into a rapid technical game.
Any side in that league would cause us problems, the best young talented athletes that would outperform our lot in sports science tests.
If the group pulls anything out of this, they are better than I thought, and I’ll gladly eat humble pie plus hand out praise.

Teams up
as kick off approaches, do I go under the couch, go behind the couch, no im going to sit on it and remember what the great jock stein said, go out there and give your all thats all you can do👍👍❤❤❤
San Luis
Now that’s got a nice ring to it
Billy,
I’ll be surprised if that is true.
Would soften the blow of a loss!
Looks like we are wearing that “camouflage ” top tonight !
As usual, the closer we get to kick-off,the less optimistic I feel. The problem about this one is that I was never too optimistic in the first place-even from when the draw was made-and this has only got worse as our pool of available players got smaller.
Wednesday-Maeda red card, which means he is out (and also for the next game.)
Thursday-Kyogo seen boarding a private flight to France.
Tuesday-Manager reveals that CCV will miss yet another European tie.
Add the departure of our cover at left back and we are struggling to form a quorum, much less a competitive opposition at this level.
Of course, our history is littered with tales of heroism and valour, often against the odds. We will need to stand on the shoulders of giants if we are to get anything from this tonight.
Frodshambhoy…wouldn’t you agree it also shows a weakness in Brendan’s setup and tactics?
We’ll need to be disciplined tonight and not give the ball away cheaply at all.
From what I’ve seen of Villa they look like a good team …
And even though we haven’t been sparkling at times this winter, our record in England in big games isn’t bad 👍
It’s Celtic ..anything is possible!
2-2 and a great game 😉

As I said it was just an observation. I first noticed it under Ange and it has continued.
I get it that he doesn’t play as a conventional fullback.
Celtic fans getting battered next to the stadium, no cops around….
Lots of theories re our next opponents. Things will change as games progress so I hope we do as well as we can in the match.
9th plays 24th, 10th plays 23rd etc. The numbers add up to 33 so as it stands we are 18th and would play Bayern Munich in 15th place.
Frodshambhoy –
Nearly right. Its 9th or 10th play 23rd or 24th, etc. The draw is on Friday. Positions 9th to 16th will have the 2nd leg at home.
Frodshambhoy 👋🏻
next round draw a wee bit more complicated than that.
9th/10th paired V. 24th/23rd etc …
Anyway I tried thon predictor thingy .
Robert De Niro was waiting.. talking Italian
Paired against Juventus/Atalanta .
Next up Inter Milan .🤷🏻♂️ ciao 👋🏻
HH💚🍀
p.s. my 18 team accumulator is under threat already. Slot playing Liverpool reserves at PSV. Andy Robertson central defender.🥲
Here’s what you could have won 💰
The Bench:
Subs: Sinisalo, Bain, Palma, McCowan, Nawrocki, Bernardo, Montgomery, Murray, Cummings, Ralston
And we are aff ⚽️
Inq IV , should have played the bench team. = 2 Goalies 😂

BR’s career record against Villa 9 w, 4 d, 6 l.
1:0 Villa
Fuxake. Three minutes.
Villa score. AJ not doing his job.
Embarrassing really.
Ist team of 36 to score -Aston Villa
2:0
2-0. WTF are our defenders doing?
I think you’re going to need a bigger boat
1-2 then ripped apart .
Two attacks 2-0
Switching off 🤬
And again. Four minutes. Back to our old habit of losing goals in quick succession.
Deflected off Scales
Tellt ye
Tottenham 4 Aston Villa 1
Sevco 1 Spurs 1
Aston Villa cricket score possibly coming up.
Whole of Europe watching as well.
Yang doesn’t have a tackle in him
Hopeless corner from Engels, well over all heads.
No support whatsoever for Idah there.
when attacking, Villa pass the ball to where the player is going to be. Celtic pass the ball to where the player is. Fast. Slow.
Martinez could be in a hammock or deck chair, for all he has to do.
Reo fluffs his lines.
Rubbish attempt by Hatate
Bloody hell,Reo. Just chip him.
Weak as water from Hatate. Pitiful attempt at goal.
Villa hit post. Shooting practice.
Two shots on target by us, both rubbish though
Poor attempt by Engels. Our shooting is just horrendous.
Desperate defending. Villa going through us like we’re not there.
AJ needs to remember his job is right back
A wee bit of belief and composure in front of goal could get us back in this game. Too starstruck at the minute
Atalanta proven to be the outlier in decades worth of Champions League away games.
We are no closer to being able to go away from home and not panic and lose goals in quick succession against top tier sides.
I say top tier, but Villa are nowhere near a top side , but just like Dortmund who currently sit mid Bundesliga, they don’t have to be against a collective team who wilt at the first sign of aggressive play and press.
Just ask the Huns about us.
John McGinn always had a big arse. Looks like the rest of him has caught up.
