Battle in Brum
Who woulda thunk it?
Here we are on matchday 8 already going through, string of big results in the bag, ready to go to battle in Brum,,,with a single striker.
Of course Maeda can slot in, but he’s unavailable. I don’t even know if Kenny can play, either through registration or Cup tied. Kuhn might be an option but with no Boy Wonder (he returns!) in the squad nor Jamsie fit, the German is needed on the right more than ever because the left will need respite.
Decisions, decisions.
Adam is in for a very tough, long and tiring night, and now Jota is officially signed it’s clear either or both of Yang and Palma shall depart, but ironically they’ll probably play tonight having been deemed lacking. Jota is a big step up from either, and now he shall have a big Baptism of fire in the knockouts.
The managers team talk should be straightforward, put any thoughts of already qualified away, you’re representing the badge and Calmac will preach the same message.
I would say Celtic don’t play for draws, but apparently we have in this competition. A forward planner might opt for using this tough away game as a dressed rehearsal for the knockout phase away game we shall play. With that in mind, plus the players unavailable I just see the usual approach, I think the occasion calls for a very workmanlike performance, nonstop pressing and running trying to match them or make an option. I’m thinking Bernardo over Reo and getting Luke on the pitch at some stage. Engels needs the experience.
Very tough position for Greg to be in,,certain to be targeted with his personal Samurai bodyguard missing in action,,,there’s no point playing Valle as he’s off soon and there’s still a chance GT could sign the new improved offer that’s widely rumored to be on the table.
I recall absolutely biting my fingernails going down to Old Trafford under Fergie, who later asked Van Der Saar ‘Are you buying that wee Japs DVD, because you’re f#$king in it twice!’ (another reason hes never Jocks peer, he couldnt/wouldnt acknowledge a fantastic from range free kick but ironically later cheered when his own CR7 scored a bucketload). Similarly when the much applauded Pep came to Parkhead with his soon to conquer Europe galatians of Mancessity.
I recall a Bambi on Ice striker called Amido Balde putting a Brendan Rodgers Liverpool side away, I recall Arsenal needed to cheat to best the Bhoys under the much vaunted Arsene Wenger who is an alleged football purist but he never seen it when it came to the unsavoury nature of his team.
Although I often fear the worst, our record against the EPL is respectable, in my opinion.
But here’s the rub, the EPL (and I’m an avid watcher) has changed a lot, it’s a different kettle of fish that’s moved from a 4-4-2 physical setup into a rapid technical game.
Any side in that league would cause us problems, the best young talented athletes that would outperform our lot in sports science tests.
If the group pulls anything out of this, they are better than I thought, and I’ll gladly eat humble pie plus hand out praise.

PSV 3 Liverpool 2.

Totally agree
I think Taylor is playing great
Trusty is anything but
Calton get back on here
First two shots in 5 minutes produce two goals, unusual to say the least
The horse tranquilsers are starting to wear off.
As it stands Villa,13th Celtic 20th so we’d go again in the next round.
Five minutes in,who saw that coming? Even thirty minutes. But what a turnaround.
Need to get a bit closer to good players, or they will play around you easily.
As soon as we made a couple of tackles, totally different game.
Work your sox off closing down and we can emerge with a good result.

Well that was a superb turnaround! Please, Celtic, keep your shape and composure in the second half and give us a chance!!

Well said. Exactimundo. It would be a real shame to waste a recovery like that first half.
Absolutely world class run from Taylor behind the full back, stunning ba’ to him from Reo, great ba’ into the box…the wee deflection from McGinn sees Adam adjust and swivel to finish beautifully for a wonderful team goal! Stunning!
Frodshambhoy 👋🏻
There’s a draw for the play-off round.
At the moment our possible opponents are Villa or PSV .
Updates may follow. Or not .
HH💚🍀
For 5mins after we equalised Villa were rattled. Falling down at every tackle just to break up play. Ref fell for the tactic unfortunately. What a comeback after first 10/15 mins. Keep the heid now and finish off the game without losing.
Just test that big lump of wood in their goals Celtic. The goals will come
They adjusted and made a couple of changes when Cash went off, it seems to have upset them. They’ll come out looking for revenge in the second half. Keep it cool, Celtic, and turn them over!
I wish Celtic were wearing the hoops
Bloody commentators obviously rooting for Villa.
Time for Montgomery, Murray, Cummings and Ralston?😅
City equalise
Daft from Yang.
Taylor absolutely lost against Bailey.
Cektic playing a good pressing game but Villa are moving well, nice wee triangles! So far for me Yang needs to give a bit more!
Yang had his man pinned in there in the corner, but did diddly squat. Aaarrrghh!

Yes, he is being rag dolled.
C’Mon Celtic! Hang in there!
Auldbhoy, Taylor stood him up (when he got his composure). I thought he looked like he’d lost it but did well to stop him using the space!
Brendan having words with Emery on the touchline
That was a foul on Engels
Come on Celtic!
I counted 11 in the box there
tactics?
City 2-1 up
Man City 2-1
I would hook Yang or Yank…..
Shit, 3-2 Villa
Prestonpans bhoys
Agreed
I’d Yank Yang
3:2 break away Villa
Quick break catches us out.
Fuck 3-2
Really amateurish from Celtic, caught needlessly too far up the park!
Too loose in midfield, should never be getting caught 2 v 1.
McGinns arse wins
celtic never feckin learn, feckin does my nut in,,another true story👍
Schmeichel bad error, makes up for it with a massive save.
Kasper twice now caught out passing oot

Exactly! What was Scales doing miles out of position. No game intelligence whatsoever.
McGinn uses his arse to good effect.
It’s now shooting practice.
Penalty to Villa.
Shocking error, great recovery save by Schmeichel. Now,pen Villa.
That is never a penalty, but you know VAR won’t overturn it.
That’s no penalty, twice touched the ball before the player went down.
Ridiculous penalty, but no less than we expect.
Penalty in the stand
Watkins double hits it, free kick to Celtic.
Watkins slips and skies the penalty!!!
