Celtic FC
Morning,all.
A big few days ahead for our players and the manager as they continue the defence of the Scottish Cup. You might be forgiven for thinking that the emphasis would be on the midweek game when we host Bayern Munich, and I would agree that should indeed be the case. However, “the suits” in our boardroom, the people who control the purse strings whether we like it or not, clearly think otherwise. How else do you explain our failure to bolster our strike-force?
Our spearhead in attack is now any one from three. Idah, who is looking sharper since the departure of Kyogo. Kenny, who has been out on loan for so long that some of us were wondering whether or not he had a future with us-and with only one short appearance since his return, that is still a valid question. And Cummings, who has decided that his future lies in those bright lights of London, and has rarely been trusted with an appearance.
Additionally, it appears that Taylor has signed a pre-contract with Dinamo Zagreb and Adam Montgomery has gone on loan to Queen’s Park, leaving only the on-loan Schlupp as competition at left back. Of course, we know Scales can do a job there, but he can’t cover that position as well as centre-back.
Anyway, there’s little point now in fretting over another shocking transfer window, is there? BR has effectively been left with a worse squad than at Christmas, despite “always aiming to come out of each transfer window stronger.” Laughable sentiments, to which they barely pay lip service. I’ll get over it eventually, of course. I always do.
Doesn’t mean that I forget though.
So a teatime kickoff for tomorrow against Raith Rovers, who are struggling a bit in the Championship. Nearer to the relegation play-off than the promotion one. It should be a comfortable enough evening, though we can never be complacent. Giant-killing still happens, and we’ve been on the end of a few ourselves. I think the manager will use the game to get some time into the likes of Schlupp and Jota, while resting the likes of CCV and Kühn. He might even take the chance to give CalMac a wee break, leaving him on appearance 501 until Wednesday. That’ll be CalMac, who scored for us the last time Bayern came to town.
Apart from those and maybe a spot of mix and match in midfield, I don’t expect any tactical changes to the starting line-up. Just strategic ones, because whether the suits agree or not, our focus should be on midweek. Yes, we play one game at a time. And no, we won’t be weakening our side too much by resting some players. Win the game tomorrow and get cracking on the plans for Wednesday. A big task is ahead of us, and we need to embrace it. But it should be about winning, not damage limitation. About results on the pitch, not on the Glorious Balance Sheet.
I’ll always offer praise where it is due, but Celtic Fc is a football club, not a bank. The clue is in the FC part, it doesn’t stand for financial colossus. We know it, even if our board believe otherwise.

I’ve been in awe of you from way back in the CQN days of old right up to the present time. I’m now even more in awe of you given that you’ve given so much of your time to try and educate and clarify things even while you’re going through a tough time personally.
So, thanks for everything you’ve done and continue to do. You are an incredibly inspirational guy!
I hope you enjoy another Joy Of Six evening tomorrow!
Hibs take the lead in the 86th minute.
Apologies if it’s already been mentioned but the latest Celtic Underground podcast is exceptionally good. Harry Brady has Ross Hall on (the scout that is) as they pick the bones out of the window.
Top notch stuff and far too many bones to pick the meat off here but basically our plan is we have no plan and it’s all laid out in detail. They lay out how each of our first XI in turn came to be at the club. It’s frightening.
Alan Morrison was also very good on the huddle breakdown on Tuesday and I mind Paul John Dykes on Acsom in the summer insisting that he had heard from a scout that Celtic are well known to be hard to deal with, not from a bargaining point of view but the strange way we go about our business.
But if you have a spare hour or you are out a walk or whatever I woukd thoroughly recommend this

Maguire scores injury time winner for Manure.
Thought he looked well offside.
Replay shows well off, but no VAR.
Linesman at it, should be sacked 😁

I don’t think it was handball for the free kick that led to the offside Man U goal.
Need to see it again.

Auldheid, hope your alright.
I also get the FSR and what they are trying to achieve or say they are trying to achieve. But the minute some of the biggest clubs start to flaunt the rules, and uefa need to make a decision about having the best players or biggest clubs on the planet in their competition. The rules will go out he window. Mark my words.
===========
One of the truths that we do not want to face in general terms is that Res12 has revealed that what we believed about Celtic as champions for fair play against the foe malign simply is not true , and that the game is rigged.
So why continue to watch? I suppose it is to find something to enjoy in what we continue to watch, after all it brings the community together even if to fall out occasionally. It does not stop us going to the Shipbank to enjoy the friendship aspect.
With regards to your Mark my Words prediction I disagree FSR will be ignored because UEFA’s future depends on it being applied, otherwise why have rules, why have UEFA?
It is the clubs who are complying who will ask that very question if they see breaches being ignored. They would have every right to sue either the club in breach or UEFA.
Another reason is the idea that the owners of the clubs who pay the high wages who agreed to FSR are quite happy to continue to empty their bank accounts and fill those of players to keep supporters happy.
That is not how capitalism works. Owners want control over wages and FSR provides it.
We have got so used to big clubs with money to burn, burning it we forget the other clubs not in that position have rights enshrined in FSR that they enable them to challenge clubs in breach.
FSR introduces rules that did not exist before that allowed hyper player wage inflation to occur. Rules which clubs can now use to bring errant clubs to account.
I wrote about how players took control at Evolution Soccerntv.doc – Google Docs and I think the consequences created FSR that the big club owners agreed to.
Having said all that delighted we have reached places to agree on.

Thank you, to inspire in biblical terms is to breath in and breathe out the Holy spirit.
Ive witnessed it in action along with other witnesses. It is overwhelming.

I hope we meet up one day with Hugh to share something I shared with him that does raise the possibility I am deluded.
This ‘n’ That.
Duran is not slow off the mark. Scores 2 in his first game in Saudi. No acclimatizing for him. Ronaldo makes it 3-0.
Ivan Toney scores 2 penalties in his game.
As does Harry Kane. I made the mistake of watching Bayern dismantle Werder Bremen 3-0 in a game brought forward by the Bundesliga to help Munich on Wednesday.
Bremen are no mugs, lie 8th, and are only one point out of the European places. Apart from their keeper, they hardly got a kick of the ball. Bayern had 75% possession, 21 shots to 2, with 12 on target. They are scary good. One oddity was Oliver Burke coming on for Bremen with 3 minutes to go. Still fast, but I don’t think he touched the ball.

Hello again, Auldheid.
Yes, get what you’re saying, and the article was a good read. But bringing community together? That’s a different cultural argument altogether.
Football is tribalism, but sport should be about bring people together. It’s a divide and conquer tool. Rugby is different, if only it wasn’t so shite😁
We now have sports washing and national powers manipulating the football markets, and with this, global football wages are going through the roof.
I have always been an advocate for a share of gate receipts, as without the opposition, you have no one to play against. I believe this rule was changed in the late 70s. And considering its now over 40 years since a team outside us or the hun won the league, why would any TV broadcasting organisation pay for a two horse race? And now one is handicapped with having to play by the rules. Even more justification for bringing it back.
What do we want?
A competitive game?
Or total nomination?
Having just watched HHH’s celtic underground link, we are as far away from progression as ever. I have been asking for years that the youth set up is not just another job for the bhoys, but instead” world class”.
Remember that phrase? The last guy to utter those words was swiftly booted out of the door less than 6 months into the job.
We have no significant transfer policy. Let’s see what happens, or pure blind luck.
We have no real youth development.
So what ?
Celtic is not doing that well, and as someone said, it’s the board that is the entitled ones in all this. They don’t even need to try and work for a living.
Turn up and collect a massive wage.
3 squares a day.
Back home to the wife.
All the away trips you can eat.
The donkey work was all done by Fergus, and now they are reaping the rewards.
In business terms, they have not in any real sense improved in over 20 years.
It was only the downfall of our opposition that created our success.
GNGB.
Done.

MIT
Man City are fighting for their lives and cgaf about football as a sport. Those who do and they vastly outnumber those who don’t , by which I mean supporters of all clubs, have the power to stop them. A bit like stopping the breakaway Super League or Sevco being parachuted into the SPL top tier in 2012.
Man City ain’t as powerful as the owners think. Even they have to abide by the 70% rule as I set out how it works.

Hello again, Auldheid.

We agree on even more than I thought.
My starting point is that the idea of being separate from each other is a mad one.All the evidence points to the opposite.
That is what makes the struggle for atonement so difficult.
Plato’s Cave allegory is an mind opener for those prepared to consider he might have a point.
Its a spiritual battle and we are right in the middle of it but for another day,
Do not despair, there is much good to be found in each other if we look for it.
All the best guys, take care and I mean that👍

Many good posts today, thanks everyone as without you we are nothing.
Auldheid, I agree with your assessment of FSR. It’s a gamechanger. In Scotland the second biggest club now sign potential players on pre contracts instead of bulldozing in with the HBS chequebook, in England the massive Manchester clubs cannot just buy the leagues best players anymore. I hear/read Newcastle value Isaak at 150m which now forces a top global name club/top 5 clubs in the world to commit most of their budget on one player.
Big gamble unless that’s the finishing piece in a completed squad.
The emphasis has been forced towards recruitment and wise spend. And recruit from within.
Pity Mevin,
When you say everything’s not great, it’s an argument that could be shot down, but some can see the pathways for Celtic to become better in all aspects, I suspect that’s what you are alluding to and I fully agree.
As a club we can be much better and thus bigger.
As a leopard doesn’t change its spot, as the old men have about a decade max left,,should we ponder what’s next?
Handing it over to the heir, surely a younger Desmond doesn’t think exactly like his dad, would be naturally more modern in his outlook?

Mahe – whats next?
This form CL will grow,.
remember in 1992/3 the CL had 8 teams
By its last was it 32.
This form is what we need to direct ourselves to for next 3 or so years
If we do that we can change the nexus of our budgetary strategy from Scotland to Europe
This form of CL will mutate into a european league
Then we will have to step away from the mermaid that is the sfa and its works team.
Can we adjust to that? Many cant, preferring hatred over love.

The Nabbla,
I can’t disagree with your opinion. But if young Desmond gets the reigns I wonder will he be a daddy’s bhoy or his own man.
On that front, how can Desmond just decide the heir?
There’s obviously going to be a period of retirements given their age, why wouldn’t the other major investors ask for strategic recruitment rather than a dynasty appointment?
The old men are just that, old.
The new wave ain’t that far away, but looks like Nicholson can offer continuity.

God that was a deep dive into the Plato philosophy.
My take is more simple and demonstrable. The shadows on the cave wall are result of the meaning folk give to them and debate based on what they believe to be so.
That meaning depends on the information each individual brings to the party.
I’ve demonstrated that what folk base their thinking on is not necessarily complete and sometimes just wrong. That’s the nature of being human.
By adding missing information which is what I tend to do , the purpose is not to say the meaning given to the shadow is wrong but to say think about this angle as it might make the shadow more real and truthful.
I might better understand the point being made in the article if I were familiar with Derrida’s views, but in the sense that we are individually responsible for the interpretations we put on events based on in dividual experience it might be an idea to leave room for uncertainty rather than die in a ditch to be right.
That is a choice being offered not dictated.
My stance is on the lines of
My business is to do my thing, to dance my dance. If you profit from it, fine; if you do not too bad! As the Arabs say,
“The nature of rain is the same, but it makes thorns grow in the marshes and flowers in the gardens.” taken from this item on Wakening Up.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/0B62m3ggkEX2RWUV3SS1zVWduanM/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107947982974245186134&resourcekey=0-ypdxU0PLK6bCkWiqPgPLBw&rtpof=true&sd=true
one of the problems I wrestle with in my thinking is that if it really is true, there would be no one left to shadow box with.
I think that is being true to my advocating we leave some wriggle room for uncertainty.
