If you’re going down, go down fighting!

I’m going to be brief for once, as there’s really nothing to say. My words mean next to nothing, Celtic will do their talking on the pitch, and no doubt give us plenty to talk about rendering a lead article virtually useless.

I don’t want this journey to end but chances are tonight is Parkheads last European foray for the season.
Chances are we get beaten.
Chances are the enormous gap in both clubs finances shows itself when the final whistle blows.
But chance itself is a fickle thing, never to be relied upon, but to be fully celebrated when it smiles on the unfavoured, the underdog, the lucky recipient. I’ve seen bigger clubs than Bayern walk away from East Glasgow stunned. Watched much better players than Harry Kane leave empty handed. Saw 11 heroes in Hoops leave European football shocked and bedazzled.

I’ve only one wish, and it’s not a win or even a draw.
It’s a simple wish.
It’s that we truly give them a proper game tonight.

If the Germans progress they progress, but I want them to be made to work for it, to be forced into digging deep.

Leave it all on the pitch Celtic, walk off that sacred turf knowing you truly gave it everything you had, and let the footballing God’s deal with the rest. If you go down, go down fighting.
We’re all behind you, you’ve made us proud.
God Bless you Bhoys.
You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Why is Schmeichel f’ing about with it at the back when they need the ball forward, and everyone is covered?! Ends up turning it over. Sometimes, just pump it forward

That goal is huge. Down 0-2 would be difficult to overturn. But the first 30 seconds show that all it takes is a half chance … so even down 1-2, there is still a chance in the return.

Not disgraced.
Disallowed goal and penalty refused
Hope second half gives us a bit of belief for next week.

We had the ball for the last 2 minutes and played square and backwards.
What is that all about.🤔🤔🤔🤔

Brilliant performance against one of the best teams in Europe, we need a couple of upgrades, but defensive shape and defending for 44 minutes was excellent, I don’t think any teams in Europe lose so many goals in first 5 minutes, or right before and after HT,still in the tie

When we lost 2 goals to the Sheep at Hampden with crosses to our far left post, we should have done something about it then. We did the same against Hertz, Killie and others that season.
Fail to plan, Plan to fail.
Typical Celtic.

You can’t stand off good players.

As soon as we were braver we managed to get a foothold in the game.

Just need to go to Munich and win.

One offside from us tonight and boy was it telling. We got diddled out of three corners. Possession count was good. It wasn’t a penalty but Bayern would have got it. It’s a tough ask to judge how much respect you give to a £850m squad.

Glad the tie is cosmetically not over.

Well done to everyone tonight. Especially Taylor it’s not his fault he’s too small.

I’ll be surprised if Alistair Johnston is with us next season.

Kuehn needs to be more decisive and less predictable.

We need a number 10.

So looking forward to my triple reunion next Tuesday.

Given Bayern possession the final result not as bad as it could havr been.

The team who has the ball most is more likely to score than team with little possession.

The second goal killed hope until Maeda scored.

To lose that 2nd goal so quickly as result of losing possession was disappointing.

I don’t like singling any of our players out for criticism, but tonight surely must be the last time we see Greg Taylor starting for Celtic. He was at fault for both goals and passed the ball straight out of play on numerous occasions. Schlupp’s introduction resolved the left back issues.

BR said tonight that Celtic want to grow into European football again and I believe we can do that after tonight. Tonight’s game I thought we stopped believing in the system after 10 minutes ( or maybe the shape changed deliberately) but the progress in Europa depends on 2 things
. 1 Brendan stays to see it out and 2 The board back him. We are making progress.

200+ games I’ve been telling people how pish Taylor is as a player.

Motherwell or Munich produces the same result …he’s just not a very good football player!

Bayern are a good team, but I dont think they were great tonight. But they didnt need to be. Celtic gave them too much respect. The last 15 minutes, Celtic showed they can compete, but they need a bit of belief. No good starting to play after 75 minutes.

I think that like most games where Celtic looked weak, the two Scottish players were by far the weakest links. Play the new LB from the start, and Bernardo in Calmac’s role, and it’sa very different game

but I dont think BR has the stones to make the necessary changes

I wouldn’t bitch about any of the squad if I were you lot. Yes I think even Taylor stood up against the blistering pace and precision we saw tonight. If your 21st Century vision is to stay abreast and fund domestic hunnery then you will never beat Bayern Munich

We need 3 midfielders that can tackle.

Listen guys
I’m going to be honest. I’m not sold on BR2!

I said at noon that I would not have started GT. But he did. And he cost us both goals!
Plus, with Bernardo unavailable I can’t believe he didn’t bring McCowan on to bolster the midfield with the 3 starters wilting as the game went on.

I’m VERY disappointed with his coaching tonight!

Bluegrass Celt
February 12, 2025 10:27 pm

Not too disappointed with the result considering they played us off the park first half.
Taylor should never have started that game. Simply not good enough.

Need to stop trying to play out from the back, we lose too much possession too often.
Brendan needs to ditch the 60 minute makeover. After 45, if youre keech, you’re hooked.
Kasper needs to punt a few long balls, if only to get us out our own half.
And we badly need a commanding number 6. Callum is not that man

And an other thing…

We might not need a No 6 – a Neil Lennon or a Wanyama – for our domestic schedule but if we’re going to have to play 10-12 games in the CL then it’s a MUST!!

We’ve got the money – get it FUCKING sorted!!!

Johnno

So disappointed with the manner of the 2 goals conceded.
The first was poor enough and right on the stroke of half time.
The second was worse than ridiculous, starting with giving a stupid corner away, that still not convinced kasper got a touch?
Even then kane totally unmarked?
AJ had the role in the first half, was there some sort of change made at half time?

You can’t be given such poor goals away especially at CL level, and expect to win a match?
Add in such a passive display for 70 minutes as well.

Only good thing to take from tonight is getting a goal back to still be in with the slightest outside chance of progressing.
Expected ourselves to be far more competitive than we were tonight, especially playing at home.

Just came home, cracked a cold one and read back.
Wow.
Thanks again everybody who helped make it as good a read as a loss can be.

Sitting here now I’d say that’s a good result and a sign of progress, having penalties and goals disallowed plus coming into the match, as posters say, haven’t seen it. Catch any of those three breaks and hey presto.
It’s a big summer window coming up but question is do the board go big on buying players for a manager who is officially working his one year notice come summer?
He doesn’t hold the aces despite clear improvement.

Yesterday I had a nagging thought that I would be reading about GT tonight. Didn’t want to type it.
I also feared for Reo, as mentioned before hes my go to guy in a one off must win game, has done it the majority of times, but when he’s poor he’s clearly poor. I’m glad to read opinions that he wasn’t, and glad not to read his name much in post match reviews. I’d like to keep him for another few years, has he developed more? I think yes.

Daizen is our most important player, and deserves the MVP award. Kuhn nearly pipped him, it was a good tussle, but the samarai takes it, imo.

Hope all are well.
Best wishes Mrs Rebus.

February 12, 2025 10:41 pm

Mags…so very correct we never get anything from Spanish officials. I don’t understand why our 28 second goal was disallowed, Idah didn’t touch the ball. The non penalty was a judgement call and the linesman called everything against Celtic. All very suspicious, but I concede they deserved to win. I like Taylor going forward but this was never a game for him, he is a very poor defender. If he’s finished with us he shouldn’t be played, we have Schlupp and Scalesy.

Mahe

We were absolutely horsed tonight. The final score is very misleading. Apart from our ‘goal’ in 30 seconds we were never in it. Both goals came from the weaknesses of Greg Taylor who is as fitting to be a Celtic LB as Trump is to be POTUS!

In addition to that our famous 12th man was posted missing until we scored in the 79th minute!

Mind you, as I boycotted the game due to Parsimonious Pete maybe I don’t deserve to comment on the pitiful lack of atmosphere!

Just watched highlights of Everton – Liverpool. Zero tippy tappy from the back, right from the start. Check it out. Get it into the opponents box, fight for second balls, cause defensive chaos.

Now I’m not saying it would work for us, because we are nowhere near physical enough, but we definitely should try to vary our play and surprise our opponents. Why were we faffing about at the back the last 4 minutes, when we could have had Daezen terrifying Eric Dier chasing long balls?
