No wonder it’s addictive

Football, bloody hell.
Within the space of 24 hours we experienced the best it has to offer, and one of the worst feelings it can conjure up. Little did the worldwide audience realize they were witnessing the final act of our greatest actor of the last 3 plus years, in typical unselfish fashion he kept it schtum, allowing the club and supporters to bask in the evenings glory, it’s now heartbreaking he didn’t score on the night (his eagerness to do so now explains away the extra offsides) nor a very well deserved solo lap of honour, jersey into the crowd etc.

Yet we got the old one two trick, the classic managerial review tactic, the magicians trick of don’t look there, look over here!
Bad news, good news. Only it’s more than good news, it’s one hell of a plot twist.

I can’t really say I agree with signing players with one exception to the rule, a good native player elsewhere wants to cone home. Signing KT, who’s a homebird, was always on the cards, just a question of when.
In saying that my yes or no rules are flexible, had it been anyone else I doubt I would have said yes. For him though, I’ll make an exception.

A foreign player returning to Celtic suggests ‘I want to play there again, I miss it’
Then put yourself in the players shoes,,18 months to make it to the World Cup, his last big chance, and this club offers not only the platform, an immediate starting berth, an EPL defender behind me, and I’ll have a knockout game to really announce my comeback. His plan should be clear, grab Celtic by the scruff of the neck and become it’s biggest star again. Not only that, he knows the city (cue a roll of eyes around the world) but it’s true. He’s got better players around him, a good manager, I can see it working out, really working out with a left flank that’s an upgrade on Maeda and Taylor. We can’t complain about upgrading, KT and Jota already gets the juices flowing.
A Jota with less miles on the clock than to be expected.

The show must go on, and the post Kyogo Furuhashi era begins today.
We are at home, and I would remind you how much of an advantage this is except,,this little thing called the weather has only went and got in the way. Does it not know there’s a game on?
The Irish bhoys ain’t making it, many natives won’t make it, the fixture itself might not make it.
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly,,that’s what footballs thrown at us in the space of four days. It’s no wonder we are addicted.

I must discuss the man I assume will be our new first choice striker, Adam Idah. I’m of the belief he needs the starting berth, needs every game, to fully emerge. I backed him as the seasons top scorer, here’s his big chance.
Daizen,,it’s a tough one, and he must be hoping to experience the World Cup so second fiddle out wide or up top doesn’t really suit him.
Starting striker? I know he runs all day but give my beating heart a rest.
Someone mentioned the breakup of the Japanese trio, when one goes all go. Stranger things have happened.

On paper its a home win but if this game goes ahead, there will be no silky football, it’s a just get it in the net more than them day, and I actually think Adam is that kinda striker. More of a finisher than a footballer like Kyogo. I think he suits the fixture.
In bad conditions the local lads more used to it are helpful, that’s Luke in with a chance. Possibly Tony Ralston. And Greg of course, current custodian of the left back starting berth but not for long. I think he should stick around as his new master is often injured but can offer tips and advice to the underling that replaces him. He will play big games, and not be scrambling down the back of the sofa for coins.
When you’re ‘keeper is Scandinavian, freshly committed thus bought in, and just made several saves which earned you ten million smackeroonies you don’t bench him.
Don’t be surprised if Liam Scales is brought in to be a port of shelter in the storm, literally and proverbially.

Today’s game and the next one are almost meaningless,,we’ve been pulling out the results so constantly that we actually face two dead rubbers towards the end of January. We could lose the next two and still achieve our (lofty) seasons targets. It’s so nice, very reassuring, to be in such a position of strength rather than otherwise.
As I type I haven’t factored in any new/forthcoming signings into today’s team, which isn’t good news for Raith Rovers as on the 8th of February they shall more than likely face all our Winter signings at some stage.

As a father I’m now a worrier, if it’s at all dicey, just stay in the house. The internet can work wonders and that central heating isn’t bad either.
Celtic will survive and fight another day, all of you are irreplaceable.
Stay safe my friends.
Look after yourselves and look after each other.
It’s been one hell of a week to be a Tim, but You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Celtic squad has been deficient for 22 years and the youth academy is basically defunct.
Essentially what Brendan has achieved domestically and this year ( as well as wee proddy Gordon Strachan) is over achievement in Europe. The Celtic squad for 22 years has been only what I call “ hun commensurate”. The Gombeen and his ilk get that and the associated BS that comes with it. Selling Kyogo the week before Aston Villa proves everything I’ve been saying about Celtic in the 21st Century.Sold to the highest bidder. In this case Rennes. We just cannot get away from bigot buck. I have always hoped this would not be Celtic supporters destiny but tbh most Tims don’t give a fuck. Ask Auldheid

Alf,

FSR, Champions League structure revised, improved payments, improved Solidarity Payments. All conveniently ignored of course.

During Brendan’s last tenure we held onto Moussa and Boyata. It got us nowhere. Like everyone else you have no knowledge of exactly what went on with Kyogo. All we know is that he’s probably gone and Jota is probably returning.

Celtic wouldn’t be anywhere near qualifying for the Play-Offs without the careful management of resources for years. Youth Academy? There is no pathway beyond the Under 19s in Scotland.

Stop making stuff up in the hope of causing a bit of controversy.

You have maligned decent paying Celtic supporters for years with insults like w***s. You have called Dermot Desmond and ‘Irish c****’. This week you continued with unacceptable comments against players from Latin America.

And despite all the pretence you’re glued to Sevco in Manchester?

It’s boring

Kyogo Furuhashi DESERVED a lap of honour to celebrate the goals/joys he gave us, especially in big games, Kyogo is an excellent finisher whom we’ll struggle to replace, unless Brendan has already unleashed the mighty Nicholson to track down and capture our next goalscoring sensational striker

I suspect Reo will definitely move on in the Summer, and I’d say it would be the right move for him and us.
We need new parts in the engine room- creative and robust ones.

I wouldn’t like to see Daizen go but can see that happening, as the three amigos are broken up.
He is the most difficult to replace. His attributes are obvious.

However, a new double act on the left will change the way we play. A KT/Jota combo has a lot to recommend it.

A first choice no 9 in place too and we would be ready to start again next season.

I’m still trying to make sense of our latest transfer out.

after 3 days of thinking about it, I can’t say I’m any nearer to understanding it!

We are being told Kyogo asked to leave.

Fair enough.

but …

Celtic to Rennes because??

Caps? been told by some he’ll get more recognition by playing in France.

fighting relegation with a club who have NEVER won their own lewgue? Mmm

Money? Does Kyogo seem the type to move just to earn a few more shekels? So, that doesn’t make much sense either.

Change of scenery? Better weather? less physical? Maybe play 1 or 2 years longer? That makes about As much sense as anything else.

Maybe we’ll read the truth in 10 years time when someone writes a book?

I know I’m no closer to understanding it.

Thanks for info on inspection. I’m torn on whether the game should go ahead or not. We don’t want a fixture pile up and we don’t want the Huns to get any nearer to us but I think the players and the fans need a rest. We’ve had so many games in the last 8 weeks, it’s exhausting!!

Mags: Is there such a being as a ‘bad’ Celtic supporter? I would say the answer is a definite no. In almost 82 years of watching, and still gratefully going to games, albeit less frequently, I’ve never seen a bad Celtic supporter. Bad behaviour? Countless times. The problem with recent years is that the league has become a two horse race. What’s the league? The major prize in Scottish football. The problem with a two horse race is that second is last.
In my early- eight years- Celtic won nothing.. zilch, nana, bugger all! In those days the only thing supporters had to look forward to was a victory, out of two then only, over the Glasgow enemies, and I can assure you they really were the enemy. Not only the supporters but the club. Look up your history book. The Rangers of the war years and for many years after really, really did not like Celtic – they hated our existence! For lots of them that hatred still exists despite their signing policy having changed.
To label Celtic supporters, of whom presumably you are one, as cretins, wankers, idiots is more than crass. You, nor anyone else-thankfully none- have no reason to resort to the language used by you.Could I suggest you use the phrase – misguided supporters in my opinion- instead. Alternatively, you could always just not post the shite and bile that you do

Just on kyogo leaving.

I mind jamesie or calmac (canny mind which) when asked why they didn’t want to go elsewhere, said that they have known so many to leave for supposedly better things and only then realised what they had.

Got me thinking of players who came to us after playing in better leagues first, like Sutton Lennon Hartson and more recently big Joe and all became massive Celtic fans despite having played in the types of teams previously that players now see us as a stepping stone for.

Big Chris Sutton makes some very good points in his article today in the record.

Lack of ambition
Leauge is not finished
We did hold Kyogo contract
Kyogo never downed tools

The lack of ambition is the real question.

We have qualified and the next day Kyogo is away, like that’s our target reached and we don’t need to think past that.

You can’t really argue with anything he has said.

What’s the much heralded ‘Dr Football’ doin’? Doesn’t take too much footballing knowledge to know KT and Jota can do a job for Celtic. Perhaps his analytical’s ain’t working otherwise what’s he doing at Celtic 🤔

The apparent haste in which he left suggests full cooperation by all parties.

I don’t understand him keen to go to Rennes either. Surely one of the better French teams, playing in European competition, would benefit from his talents.

This is a small provincial team that Jota is keen to leave.

Maybe that’s the reason- cost neutral balance sheet purchase/sale- assuming Jota is coming here.

Question is why would Kyogo play along with that. His keen desire to leave Scotland at any career cost?

Glen Kamara ( remember him?) is there.
Maybe he’s always wanted to play with him!

Thoughts on Kyogo’s departure. Could it be that we were told that Jota was looking for a move, we were looking for a winger, Kyogo was offered to Rennes in a simple swop as he intended to leave anyway, we’ve already got a replacement lined up…..🤔

I have no doubt kyogo wanted a move. No one asked him to change agents mid transfer window in the summer.
I also have no doubt that Rennes wasn’t top of his wish list.
Jota being there has seemed all too convenient,

There was talk of Jota didn’t want to come back in summer. Why has that changed. Has circumstances forced his hand and if so are we getting a hungry player back?

The timing doesn’t surprise me. There are probably various moving parts to the squad to sort and only two weeks to register players for the next stage so best get on with it.

Sutton for me is bang on,as someone said, getting through the playoffs would be the equivalent to the cost we got for Kyogo.

Instead we need to get a player in, bed him in and then see if he is as good as Kyogo.

I like the idea of getting Jota back, but would have liked it even better if we just went and bought Jota outright, especially mid-season.

PMN,
It is hard to disagree with what Sutton has said this morning but I’m looking at it another way. Now it’s a gamble because I think there is still work to do in the league but has BR taken that gamble in letting Kyogo go so he can get 6 months with a new striker to bed in before Champs league qualifying next season. I know he said Kyogo fitted the system perfectly but I think he’s being a bit disingenious there. He didn’t and we could see he was struggling. Let’s see who he brings in. I’ll bet he won’t be a mirror image of Kyogo.

Dermot doesn’t get close to joining that club.

One imagines money will have played a part in the decision to leave. No point in being naive about that. However FSR limits club spending to a % of income levels.

As a lower level team perhaps the wage structure allows one off exceptionals and Kyogo is getting substantially more than he would anywhere else.

Would explain the apparent lack of options available to a player of his calibre, and the smooth nature of the transition.
Perhaps Peter Grant isn’t wrong.
