No wonder it’s addictive

Football, bloody hell.
Within the space of 24 hours we experienced the best it has to offer, and one of the worst feelings it can conjure up. Little did the worldwide audience realize they were witnessing the final act of our greatest actor of the last 3 plus years, in typical unselfish fashion he kept it schtum, allowing the club and supporters to bask in the evenings glory, it’s now heartbreaking he didn’t score on the night (his eagerness to do so now explains away the extra offsides) nor a very well deserved solo lap of honour, jersey into the crowd etc.

Yet we got the old one two trick, the classic managerial review tactic, the magicians trick of don’t look there, look over here!
Bad news, good news. Only it’s more than good news, it’s one hell of a plot twist.

I can’t really say I agree with signing players with one exception to the rule, a good native player elsewhere wants to cone home. Signing KT, who’s a homebird, was always on the cards, just a question of when.
In saying that my yes or no rules are flexible, had it been anyone else I doubt I would have said yes. For him though, I’ll make an exception.

A foreign player returning to Celtic suggests ‘I want to play there again, I miss it’
Then put yourself in the players shoes,,18 months to make it to the World Cup, his last big chance, and this club offers not only the platform, an immediate starting berth, an EPL defender behind me, and I’ll have a knockout game to really announce my comeback. His plan should be clear, grab Celtic by the scruff of the neck and become it’s biggest star again. Not only that, he knows the city (cue a roll of eyes around the world) but it’s true. He’s got better players around him, a good manager, I can see it working out, really working out with a left flank that’s an upgrade on Maeda and Taylor. We can’t complain about upgrading, KT and Jota already gets the juices flowing.
A Jota with less miles on the clock than to be expected.

The show must go on, and the post Kyogo Furuhashi era begins today.
We are at home, and I would remind you how much of an advantage this is except,,this little thing called the weather has only went and got in the way. Does it not know there’s a game on?
The Irish bhoys ain’t making it, many natives won’t make it, the fixture itself might not make it.
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly,,that’s what footballs thrown at us in the space of four days. It’s no wonder we are addicted.

I must discuss the man I assume will be our new first choice striker, Adam Idah. I’m of the belief he needs the starting berth, needs every game, to fully emerge. I backed him as the seasons top scorer, here’s his big chance.
Daizen,,it’s a tough one, and he must be hoping to experience the World Cup so second fiddle out wide or up top doesn’t really suit him.
Starting striker? I know he runs all day but give my beating heart a rest.
Someone mentioned the breakup of the Japanese trio, when one goes all go. Stranger things have happened.

On paper its a home win but if this game goes ahead, there will be no silky football, it’s a just get it in the net more than them day, and I actually think Adam is that kinda striker. More of a finisher than a footballer like Kyogo. I think he suits the fixture.
In bad conditions the local lads more used to it are helpful, that’s Luke in with a chance. Possibly Tony Ralston. And Greg of course, current custodian of the left back starting berth but not for long. I think he should stick around as his new master is often injured but can offer tips and advice to the underling that replaces him. He will play big games, and not be scrambling down the back of the sofa for coins.
When you’re ‘keeper is Scandinavian, freshly committed thus bought in, and just made several saves which earned you ten million smackeroonies you don’t bench him.
Don’t be surprised if Liam Scales is brought in to be a port of shelter in the storm, literally and proverbially.

Today’s game and the next one are almost meaningless,,we’ve been pulling out the results so constantly that we actually face two dead rubbers towards the end of January. We could lose the next two and still achieve our (lofty) seasons targets. It’s so nice, very reassuring, to be in such a position of strength rather than otherwise.
As I type I haven’t factored in any new/forthcoming signings into today’s team, which isn’t good news for Raith Rovers as on the 8th of February they shall more than likely face all our Winter signings at some stage.

As a father I’m now a worrier, if it’s at all dicey, just stay in the house. The internet can work wonders and that central heating isn’t bad either.
Celtic will survive and fight another day, all of you are irreplaceable.
Stay safe my friends.
Look after yourselves and look after each other.
It’s been one hell of a week to be a Tim, but You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Tough crowd on here today.

Storms are an act of nature, none of us , regardless of wealth can prevent it from doing it’s work. We can prepare for it but we can’t stop it. That includes Celtic FC.

As for Kyogo leaving, let me say that since Paul McStay retired, every single idol I’ve had at Celtic has left us. Not one has remained and, you know what, we always seem to cope and find new idols.

It’s the way of the world, just don’t get too attached though.

Kane scores again for Bayern. They paid £100M for a 30 year old. I guess they don’t think he is immediately going to fall apart before he is 31.

But then again, Bayern are an ambitious club.

How many celtic players have left us and improved their careers? Taking money out of the equation, in my time as a celtic support this is my list.
Cleland
Macari
Dalglish
McClair
Collins. Maybe.
Larsson
Can’t think of any others.

Mo Salah is positively ancient compared to Kyogo. He is two years older, at 32, and can’t stop scoring. He is on target again today. Celtic one of the few teams that regard 30 year olds as near the scrapheap.

I don’t think it’s baffling.

Kyogo was likely on something close to 20/25k a week here, his new agent possibly tried to drum up interest as from last year (see Man city story), but looked like, it failed to accumulate much interest and there were no solid takers.

Now at Rennes ex-hun Glen Kamara is on £35k a week, I’d assume Rennes are/were offering Kyogo 40/50k a week, plus bonuses, maybe roughly £1m signing on fee.

He’s 30yrs old it’s possibly his last payday, players need to look after their own short careers. So he was likely advised by said agent this could be his last chance saloon, so jump at it wee man.

San Luis I tend to agree with you and McCaff the club have a responsibility to make sure of fans and staff safety and the call off was merited.

Regarding players leaving, as you say, it’s just the way of the world players have always left, they (by and large) don’t have that lifelong affinity or love for Celtic in the same way that Celtic fans are for life, and new heroes will always emerge.

Hi ASWGL
”Assume” doing some heavy lifting there, mate. The Club is in Brittany, not the most prosperous area, has an average home gate of 27,000, and a capacity of less than 30,000.
Where are they getting the money to afford 50K a week and £1M signing on fee?

Not saying you are wrong, but the numbers are counter intuitive. We’re in the Champions League with double the gates, and we can’t get anywhere near these wages. Maybe we should send Peter Lawwell over there to figure out how they do it?🤣

“Or are you simply looking for ammo to bash the club?”
——————————————-
I don’t need to look for ammo. The Club provides plenty of it free of charge. James Forrest says it much better than I can. The following is an extract from one of his posts today.
——————————

“This argument that we’re going to hear—that our top target wasn’t available in this window—isn’t going to cut it with fans at all, because if your top target to replace your top striker isn’t available in this window then you shouldn’t be selling your top striker in this window. It’s really as simple as that.
That deal should not have been sanctioned unless we were 100 per cent sure—not 50 per cent, not 75 per cent, not even 99 per cent, but 100 per cent sure—that we could replace him immediately.
And by “replace,” I don’t mean scrambling around for a last-minute deal.
The replacement should already have been lined up, with all that was required being the pushing of a button. We either prepared for this scenario or we didn’t. We either have something ready to go or we’ve gambled and will apply a sticking plaster and hope that we get away with it, and in those circumstances, it will be the equivalent of someone putting the mortgage on red or black at the casino.

If it fails, heads should roll. If it works, we shouldn’t be applauding the people who took such as colossal risk; we should demanding that they at least have the good grace to admit what they did, pack their bags and piss off.
Right now, we are the club that sold its top striker just days before a Champions League match—one of the most critical games of the season—without having any possibility of replacing him. Worse still, one of the only other players who could conceivably play in that position is banned for the game.
In short, we are capable of any sort of breathtaking screw-up and I do not trust us to get the striker signing right, not one bit.
Selling our best player without having done the necessary work on his replacement would reeks of a momentous sort of negligence. Leaving it to chance, or worse, trying to fob off the manager and fans with some loan option as a stopgap, will be unacceptable. The manager expects quality, someone bought in the here and now, probably for big money, and too bad if that hurts the accountancy types.
There is no universe in which selling your top striker and replacing him with a short-term solution is the action of a so-called big club.

And let me be crystal clear: bringing ex-heroes out of the tunnel in their new Celtic kits with shiny new squad numbers won’t impress me one bit if that turns out to be what we do here. In fact, the very act of rolling out ex-players as marquee signings during a window where we fail in the principle task of emerging stronger will only solidify the view that this club is grossly unprofessional at times.
Under the current custodians, we’ve seen a pattern emerge. Only a couple of truly outstanding managers, with singular visions and the strength to impose them, have managed to drag this club forward over the last four years. They’ve been the exceptions in a building otherwise filled with mediocrity and stagnant thinking and if you don’t believe me consider this; If they had their way, Mark Lawwell would still be shaping the squad.”

The question about players leaving and bettering the careers.

VVD and every other player that left and doubled or triple their wage at Celtic.

Football is a job, and all about money, the same as every job.

They go to work to earn a living. That’s it.

I will welcome back KT if it happens, and until I see him in a Celtic jersey, then nothing is done.

Craig…seeing the guys abseiling off the roof reminded me of when the giant screens were installed. The screens were made up of 48 or 64 separate screens, CRT tv screens, that built up a load of heat when they were on (and cost a fortune to run). To save energy they were turned off after matches but built up a huge amount of condensation. So much so that when they were turned on again the condensed water heated up and blew the CRT causing blank screens within the larger screen. My mate was the engineer who replaced the broken tubes, and he was put through an abseiling course by his company to enable him to carry out the work!
