No wonder it’s addictive
Football, bloody hell.
Within the space of 24 hours we experienced the best it has to offer, and one of the worst feelings it can conjure up. Little did the worldwide audience realize they were witnessing the final act of our greatest actor of the last 3 plus years, in typical unselfish fashion he kept it schtum, allowing the club and supporters to bask in the evenings glory, it’s now heartbreaking he didn’t score on the night (his eagerness to do so now explains away the extra offsides) nor a very well deserved solo lap of honour, jersey into the crowd etc.
Yet we got the old one two trick, the classic managerial review tactic, the magicians trick of don’t look there, look over here!
Bad news, good news. Only it’s more than good news, it’s one hell of a plot twist.
I can’t really say I agree with signing players with one exception to the rule, a good native player elsewhere wants to cone home. Signing KT, who’s a homebird, was always on the cards, just a question of when.
In saying that my yes or no rules are flexible, had it been anyone else I doubt I would have said yes. For him though, I’ll make an exception.
A foreign player returning to Celtic suggests ‘I want to play there again, I miss it’
Then put yourself in the players shoes,,18 months to make it to the World Cup, his last big chance, and this club offers not only the platform, an immediate starting berth, an EPL defender behind me, and I’ll have a knockout game to really announce my comeback. His plan should be clear, grab Celtic by the scruff of the neck and become it’s biggest star again. Not only that, he knows the city (cue a roll of eyes around the world) but it’s true. He’s got better players around him, a good manager, I can see it working out, really working out with a left flank that’s an upgrade on Maeda and Taylor. We can’t complain about upgrading, KT and Jota already gets the juices flowing.
A Jota with less miles on the clock than to be expected.
The show must go on, and the post Kyogo Furuhashi era begins today.
We are at home, and I would remind you how much of an advantage this is except,,this little thing called the weather has only went and got in the way. Does it not know there’s a game on?
The Irish bhoys ain’t making it, many natives won’t make it, the fixture itself might not make it.
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly,,that’s what footballs thrown at us in the space of four days. It’s no wonder we are addicted.
I must discuss the man I assume will be our new first choice striker, Adam Idah. I’m of the belief he needs the starting berth, needs every game, to fully emerge. I backed him as the seasons top scorer, here’s his big chance.
Daizen,,it’s a tough one, and he must be hoping to experience the World Cup so second fiddle out wide or up top doesn’t really suit him.
Starting striker? I know he runs all day but give my beating heart a rest.
Someone mentioned the breakup of the Japanese trio, when one goes all go. Stranger things have happened.
On paper its a home win but if this game goes ahead, there will be no silky football, it’s a just get it in the net more than them day, and I actually think Adam is that kinda striker. More of a finisher than a footballer like Kyogo. I think he suits the fixture.
In bad conditions the local lads more used to it are helpful, that’s Luke in with a chance. Possibly Tony Ralston. And Greg of course, current custodian of the left back starting berth but not for long. I think he should stick around as his new master is often injured but can offer tips and advice to the underling that replaces him. He will play big games, and not be scrambling down the back of the sofa for coins.
When you’re ‘keeper is Scandinavian, freshly committed thus bought in, and just made several saves which earned you ten million smackeroonies you don’t bench him.
Don’t be surprised if Liam Scales is brought in to be a port of shelter in the storm, literally and proverbially.
Today’s game and the next one are almost meaningless,,we’ve been pulling out the results so constantly that we actually face two dead rubbers towards the end of January. We could lose the next two and still achieve our (lofty) seasons targets. It’s so nice, very reassuring, to be in such a position of strength rather than otherwise.
As I type I haven’t factored in any new/forthcoming signings into today’s team, which isn’t good news for Raith Rovers as on the 8th of February they shall more than likely face all our Winter signings at some stage.
As a father I’m now a worrier, if it’s at all dicey, just stay in the house. The internet can work wonders and that central heating isn’t bad either.
Celtic will survive and fight another day, all of you are irreplaceable.
Stay safe my friends.
Look after yourselves and look after each other.

Re Kyogo’s imminent departure
Whilst many posters and pundits have raised good points and queries around this move, incl questioning the timing and ambition of the club/player, only those with inside knowledge will have all the relevant facts. Every thought on the rationale behind this move is pure speculation at the moment.
There are too many unknowns.
It’s akin to sitting in a jury room at the start of a trial, and discussing whether we think the accused is innocent or guilty before we’ve been given all the available evidence to assess.

I believe Brendan has decided this time around that no player or anyone outwith his pay grade / control will fk him around like happened in his last tenure. Dembele / Edouard/ Boyata /Nicham all threw their toys out for one reason or another and so any player not happy this time can go. I have no problem with that at all and in my own decades as a manager our supervisor I had that attitude. Unhappy people cause more unhappy people. For all we loved Kyogo if its true he was unhappy then that would eventually grow throughout the team and the support also.
Hes gone. We wish him luck and thank him for his time and effort.
Time to move on to find the next superstar who will take over the mantle.
Kyogo changed agents in the summer , to get a move.
His agents then put out a story about Man City being interested, which was rubbish and done to try and drum up interest.
Celtics valuation wasn’t met.
It now has been and he moves on.
As Brendan said a couple of weeks ago . If you don’t want to be here, there’s the door.
Game rescheduled for February 5th
ATOB, I totally agree, Kyogo didn’t fit the system or even what we all know a BR striker looks like. We all seen this with Leigh Griffiths.
I would also agree that the bedding in period could be helpful, but this is only if we win the league. We all know its not a done deal yet and to think this way, could be dangerous.
I hear that Kyogo changed agents, but agents are just sale people.
Could celtic not have sold the ambition and where we as a club want to be, and how he would play a major part in this.
As ATOB said he didn’t fit the system, so it’s all on BR.
He’s the manager and it’s his vision we are watching.
The end

For me I think Jota will hit the ground running.
He left an adoring set of fans. Playing infront of if lucky a couple of thousand people.
He then goes to Renne and doesn’t play. Jota must have got a pay off from the Saudi outfit. £10 million a year and a 4 year contract. So one can only imagine he received at least £20 million to get him aff the books.
Time to start again.
If we get KT and Jota back, they will be 27 & 25 . So the reality is, they both should be in their prime with many good years ahead of them.
Even Matt is questioning going to Brighton, a 30K capacity and a fanbase of hand sitters.
Feel the love, play for the supporters and enjoy your time here.

I’m wary of going down this route but the significance of symbolism and the relevance of certain numbers is apparent when you go looking.
Just Sayin’
Pitymevin- I don’t think Jota was in Rennes team for a few weeks, might be a bit rusty
I notice a distinction in BR’s willingness to discuss Jota with the media, yet he recently shut down an interviewer who asked a question about KT, saying he was another club’s player.
Mmm?
HH
BADA, he would still have been training, and as been pointed out, maybe the manager knew he wasn’t in his plans and therefore wouldn’t play him.
Kyogo, on the other hand, was our best striker and needed to play.
Only time will tell, and your theory is more realistic than mine. I’m trying to be positive, and I know my heart is ruling my head. But he knows what he’s walking into, and the welcome he will receive should make for a good day/ night when he walks back onto the pitch. The stadium will be rocking, of that we can agree 👍
If Jota comes back (still unconfirmed), my glass half full side sees it as a massive upgrade on Yang/Forrest/Palma for a wide berth slot in the team.
My glass half empty side recalls too many games during his last stint that he started on the bench (and he wasn’t being rested, from my recollection). Who was keeping him out of the team? Has his absence made our hearts grow fonder?
Regardless, my glass will be emptied at some point and immediately refilled. Every player signed deserves our support.
HH
PMN/SES,
I don’t want to keep any player who doesn’t want to be here. Kyogo is a great wee guy and was massive for us but he wants something else so I move on very quickly. Who we get in is all that interests me now. BR is obviously confident he can get a decent replacement, maybe better than Kyogo and I trust him to do that. I believe he nursed us through last season and we would not have won the league without him. Close season we took too long to get Idah so he couldn’t let Kyogo leave. This is going to be his team even more now and once, as JS suggests Hatate leaves too in the summer it really will be his team. Exciting times. Of course all this falls on its arse if we don’t win the league and that is no gimme if we are bedding in anew striker and Idah is our main man!!
If jota comes today, I think the club should announce his time of arrival, so some of the supporters can turn up and welcome him back. Make him feel the love again and reconfirm his decision.
Give some of the young team something to do today, rather than just sitting in the pub.
Remember last summer, when we were linked with numerous strikers? The assumption was that we were after Idah OR a.n.other to join Kyogo in the squad.
Perhaps the plan all along was to get Idah AND a.n.other striker in and sell Kyogo, all within the same window? Kyogo changing agents may have been part of the plan, however no buyers were found who were willing to pay a desirable fee. Hence why we never signed another striker.
Kyogo’s recently signed contract will likely have a release clause (most do). Maybe Rennes have met it, or at least offered an amount close enough to it that is deemed acceptable. Perhaps we had a replacement lined up in the summer, with selling club and the player willing to do a deal, but it never transpired as Kyogo’s agent didn’t have a buyer lined up?
If one of our summer targets now signs in this window to replace Kyogo…
Speculation, eh? lol

Whenever a popular player leaves, against the wishes of the fans, there is always a narrative that the move was engineered by the player.
Believe nothing that you hear and only half of what you see.
Is the Celtic game off because of weather conditions?
Every other SPFL game is going ahead,as well as the Championship, League 1 and League 2 games.
Think I read yesterday on the blog that the notoriously, rickety roof got damaged by a gust of wind?
Embarrassing if true.
Rumour KT medical Monday, seems he won’t be in Arsenal squad today?

Yes, you’re 10:22 post suggested that Kyogo was the instigator, and was looking for a move by changing agent and getting himself linked to other clubs.
My post was thinking more from the club’s angle, and suggested that the club may have been encouraging such a move last summer.

Stadium damage it is, according to the official website.
Shocking.
The boardroom gombeens need to address this ongoing issue as a matter of urgency.
What is it going to take for them to invest in much needed improvements?
Someone to get injured or worse?
If the council removed the stadium health and safety certificate, then perhaps they will be forced into talking action?
I’m not one for getting involved in boardroom politics, however it’s disgraceful that they won’t spend money on the stadium.

Sorry, but I don’t share the embarrassment or shock that you sustained as a result of our game being called off. This was due to damage caused during a red alert weather warning.
What do you suggest/expect the “boardroom gombeens” do, improvements wise, that would ensure the stadium with stood a red alert weather warning occurrence?
HH

I appreciate Lawwell thinks he is god but cmon. There is no way even he could predict damage to the stadium . Train – planes – boats cancelled roads closed all for public safety but due to a game being cancelled for crowd safety its shocking.
Quite a statement there.

It needs a new roof, because it’s leaking all over the place.
How come this red weather alert warning only damaged Celtic Park?
Auldbhoy67 – Look at the fixture list chief – every other game is going ahead.
Perhaps that couple of square mile area of Glasgow was effected more than anywhere else?
I don’t know.
If Celtic Park area got it worse then the rest of the country, then I will admit to being wrong and delete the post.

You’re being unfair here. The two big club stadiums in Glasgow suffered damage yesterday in unprecedented storms.
Elsewhere, across the west of Scotland all major bridges, rail tracks and roads were closed and 100,000s went without electricity as gusts reached over 100mph.
This was the strongest storm in over a decade. Thousands of homes, businesses and vehicles have been damaged. Yet, you blame the Celtic board for roof damage??
16r
Castle Greyskull had some of its roof ripped off also but they dont play until tomorrow. That gives some leeway to do some repairs or make the area safe for people to enter. We as a club didnt have that extra day. I am very surprised the Ayr Partick game is on as the wind here was over 80mph gusts. My daughter who lives close to the stadium has guttrrs down roof tiles off and fence down. Its not always about how much you dont spend.

I know all about the storm having had to walk through the worst of it at 5 in the morning.
Why is it only the Celtic game has been postponed though?
Nobody has answered the question.
16R…I’m gonna play Devil’s Advocate on this – Celtic Park is the biggest stadium, damage to the roof and facades needs to be properly investigated to ensure it is sound and unlikely to come down during a game. Can you imagine the furore if the game went ahead and a loose bit of cladding came down on the crowd entering or exiting the stadium or flew onto the pitch during a game.
Celtic are absolutely correct to put everyone’s safety before a game of fitba.
No worries lhads.
If I’m wrong, I’m wrong and I’ll admit that I’m wrong.
This has happened before though.
It was just disappointing to get an alert on the phone that the Celtic game has been cancelled.
Then when you scroll through the fixtures expecting a raft of postponements to find that ours is the only game not going ahead.
What’s preventing the board from investment £20-£30million minimum in the ground?
We are Celtic for crying out loud.
Aff oot.

KT a sub again 😮
McCaff – We know and understand all of this, however if the a new roof had been installed I remain convinced that this problem wouldn’t happened.
What’s wrong with ambition?
Invest, invest, invest.
Watching drone footage of Everton’s new stadium,on the banks of the river Mersey.
Haven’t heard any reports of storm damage to it,as of yet. 🤔
Laters.
16R…i wasn’t aware we needed a new roof! On what basis would we need a new roof, due to some leaks here and there! I’m not sure any business would justify that although again, playing Devil’s Advocate, if the maintainenance ans repair programme is insufficient then we’ve been negligent.
Sending guys up on the roof, and abseilers of it, to inspect potential damage would’ve have an absolute no yesterday so daylight today is the earliest opportunity to conduct proper due diligence.
16 Roads,
McCaff has given you a perfectly reasonable explanation for why the game is off. Other games are not off due more to luck than anything else. Ibrox and cappielow both sustained damage as an example but as both teams are away this weekend their games go ahead. Don’t forget how high the north stand is. It was bound to get pounded. Now you all know I’m no board lover and my complaints about the lack of facilities in the stadium are well known but I’ve never heard anyone complain about the actual structure, aside from the main stand of course.

I think 16R is just letting off steam. He surely understands that even the larger clubs, with the larger stadiums and larger revenue, can succumb to Mother Nature at times like these. Hopefully a wee walk and taking a breather will help clear his head.
HH
Steve,
Now he was the greatest!
But Tyson was more my era, and he was absolutely brutal in his prime.
Have we signed anybody yet? Jan 25 and nothing.
Like many others on here, I am baffled by Kyogo’s motivation to go to relegation threatened provincial Rennes. The Monaco-Rennes game kicks off at 4:00GMT, so we will see how they fare today, and whether or not the wee man is on the bench, assuming he passed his medical. Unfortunately, I don’t have Fubo, Fanatiz or BEINSport, the 3 streaming services showing it over here.
What worries me is our apparent complete lack of strategic thinking vis-a-vis a replacement.
If ATOB is correctimundo, the following is all moot. The rumoured replacements are Kvistgaarden or Barrie. BBC Online is reporting today that Brondby now want £13.5M, and NOT the previously quoted £8M. Who would have thunk it? Norwich deja vu anyone?
Barrie is not a centre forward – he is more of a left winger who has been plying his trade at the mighty Stockport County. I have not seen the lad play, but to consider him a replacement appears to be stretching it just a tad.
But the bottom line is that if Celtic have let our talismanic best striker go without having a nailed on guaranteed contract for his replacement ahead of time, it would be an unforgivable display of negligence, and a monumental strategic blunder. Surely we could not be as stupid again as to get ourselves into the same situation we did with Norwich and Idah? Why am i not convinced?
As for Jota and KT, we have to be cautious in our expectations. Neither has set the heather on fire in 2 seasons. KT is on the bench again today, being kept out by an 18 year old, and having already played second fiddle to a whole succession of players, including Calafiori, Zinchenko, Tinder, Kiwior, and Tomiyasu. Whenever he returns, be it in 2 weeks or the summer, we need to besiege the referee en masse the first time he is blootered by a hammer thrower. Last time around, we just stood and watched, with zero reaction from the captain, players or coaching staff. I remember one abhorrent above the knee, studs up assault, nowhere near the ball, by a Motherwell player, who got a yellow, and we meekly accepted it.
KT will need a lot more vociferous protection than that.
Jota is bound to be rusty. I just hope he has not slowed up. He will need quite an adjustment to get up to speed, methinks. Despite the welcome return of both these players, it appears to indicate a lack in imagination in our so called worldwide scouting network. We have even been linked with Kvistgaarden for 2 years, done nothing about it, and could now be gazumped, unless as ATOB hopes, we have an agreement in place.
