No wonder it’s addictive

Football, bloody hell.
Within the space of 24 hours we experienced the best it has to offer, and one of the worst feelings it can conjure up. Little did the worldwide audience realize they were witnessing the final act of our greatest actor of the last 3 plus years, in typical unselfish fashion he kept it schtum, allowing the club and supporters to bask in the evenings glory, it’s now heartbreaking he didn’t score on the night (his eagerness to do so now explains away the extra offsides) nor a very well deserved solo lap of honour, jersey into the crowd etc.

Yet we got the old one two trick, the classic managerial review tactic, the magicians trick of don’t look there, look over here!
Bad news, good news. Only it’s more than good news, it’s one hell of a plot twist.

I can’t really say I agree with signing players with one exception to the rule, a good native player elsewhere wants to cone home. Signing KT, who’s a homebird, was always on the cards, just a question of when.
In saying that my yes or no rules are flexible, had it been anyone else I doubt I would have said yes. For him though, I’ll make an exception.

A foreign player returning to Celtic suggests ‘I want to play there again, I miss it’
Then put yourself in the players shoes,,18 months to make it to the World Cup, his last big chance, and this club offers not only the platform, an immediate starting berth, an EPL defender behind me, and I’ll have a knockout game to really announce my comeback. His plan should be clear, grab Celtic by the scruff of the neck and become it’s biggest star again. Not only that, he knows the city (cue a roll of eyes around the world) but it’s true. He’s got better players around him, a good manager, I can see it working out, really working out with a left flank that’s an upgrade on Maeda and Taylor. We can’t complain about upgrading, KT and Jota already gets the juices flowing.
A Jota with less miles on the clock than to be expected.

The show must go on, and the post Kyogo Furuhashi era begins today.
We are at home, and I would remind you how much of an advantage this is except,,this little thing called the weather has only went and got in the way. Does it not know there’s a game on?
The Irish bhoys ain’t making it, many natives won’t make it, the fixture itself might not make it.
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly,,that’s what footballs thrown at us in the space of four days. It’s no wonder we are addicted.

I must discuss the man I assume will be our new first choice striker, Adam Idah. I’m of the belief he needs the starting berth, needs every game, to fully emerge. I backed him as the seasons top scorer, here’s his big chance.
Daizen,,it’s a tough one, and he must be hoping to experience the World Cup so second fiddle out wide or up top doesn’t really suit him.
Starting striker? I know he runs all day but give my beating heart a rest.
Someone mentioned the breakup of the Japanese trio, when one goes all go. Stranger things have happened.

On paper its a home win but if this game goes ahead, there will be no silky football, it’s a just get it in the net more than them day, and I actually think Adam is that kinda striker. More of a finisher than a footballer like Kyogo. I think he suits the fixture.
In bad conditions the local lads more used to it are helpful, that’s Luke in with a chance. Possibly Tony Ralston. And Greg of course, current custodian of the left back starting berth but not for long. I think he should stick around as his new master is often injured but can offer tips and advice to the underling that replaces him. He will play big games, and not be scrambling down the back of the sofa for coins.
When you’re ‘keeper is Scandinavian, freshly committed thus bought in, and just made several saves which earned you ten million smackeroonies you don’t bench him.
Don’t be surprised if Liam Scales is brought in to be a port of shelter in the storm, literally and proverbially.

Today’s game and the next one are almost meaningless,,we’ve been pulling out the results so constantly that we actually face two dead rubbers towards the end of January. We could lose the next two and still achieve our (lofty) seasons targets. It’s so nice, very reassuring, to be in such a position of strength rather than otherwise.
As I type I haven’t factored in any new/forthcoming signings into today’s team, which isn’t good news for Raith Rovers as on the 8th of February they shall more than likely face all our Winter signings at some stage.

As a father I’m now a worrier, if it’s at all dicey, just stay in the house. The internet can work wonders and that central heating isn’t bad either.
Celtic will survive and fight another day, all of you are irreplaceable.
Stay safe my friends.
Look after yourselves and look after each other.
It’s been one hell of a week to be a Tim, but You’ll Never Walk Alone.

the way man citys new 20 year old defender played at the start of the game maybe explains why its not always a great idea to throw young players straight into a big game as soon as they sign.

he sold chelseas goal early doors, then got booked nearly selling another one shortly after that, and just looked generally uncomfortable and a bit lost.

Thank you BAD.

Celtic fan would like billionaire owner of the club to invest £1billion in a new stadium.

If any Celtic fan had that sort of capital at their disposal – Who wouldn’t??

What’s he going to do with the money anyway?

They don’t make pockets in shrouds.

Wishful thinking pish sure.

Newcastle made a profit despite the view they’ve spent lots. They’ve bought well. Sold well.
Pretty well run club looking at stadium options, planning ahead.
Should hit 500 million income this year through projected income and the sale of Izaac. He’s some player.

He was supported by old money.

Big Packy (for the day it’s in)

A new doctor is being shown round a Scottish hospital.
As they enter one ward, the nearest patient turns to him and says “Fair fa’ your honest sonsie face, great chieftain o’ the pudden race!”
Before the doctor can react, the patient in the next bed adds “Wee sleekit cowerin’ timorous beastie! O what a panic’s in thy breastie!”
And not to be outdone, the third patient responds “Some ha’ meat and cannae eat, and some wad eat that want it!”
The doctor murmurs to the orderly “So this is the mental health ward?”
“Och no!” replies the orderly.
“…it’s the Burns Unit!”

I’ll get ma coat……….

Is there, for honest poverty,That hangs his head, and a’ that?
The coward slave, we pass him by,
We dare be poor for a’ that!
For a’ that, and a’ that,
Our toils obscure and a’ that,
The rank is but the guinea‘s stamp,
The man’s the gowd for a’ that.
What though on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin grey, and a’ that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine,
A man’s a man for a’ that:
For a’ that, and a’ that,
Their tinsel shew, and a’ that,
The honest man, tho’ e’er sae poor,
Is king o’ men for a’ that.
Ye see yon birkie, ca’d a lord,
Wha struts and stares and a’ that;
Tho’ hundreds worship at his word,
He’s but a coof for a’ that:
For a’ that, and a’ that,
His ribband, star, and a’ that,
The man o’ independent mind,
He looks and laughs at a’ that.
A prince can make a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, and a’ that;
But an honest man’s aboon his might,
Gude faith, he maunna fa’ that!
For a’ that, and a’ that,
Their dignities and a’ that;
The pith o’ sense, and pride o’ worth,
Are higher rank than a’ that.
Then let us pray that come it may,
As come it will, for a’ that,
That sense and worth, o’er a’ the earth,
May bear the gree, and a’ that!
For a’ that, and a’ that,
It’s coming yet for a’ that,
That man to man, the warld o’er,
Shall brothers be for a’ that.

Surely Rennes must be aware that the guy they’re pinning their hopes on to avoid relegation has a long term shoulder issue?

If not, perhaps DD’s private jet will be whisking him back to Paradise and he’ll line up against Villa on Wednesday?

As things stand Idah is our only available striker in our CL squad!

Johnno

Hi all
Got totally battered in the west of Ireland with the storm.
Still without electricity and water, and phone only came back last night.

Have to confess that I was relieved our match was off yesterday, with no way of seeing it.
Been tough not knowing what was going on within our club, with the guessing games running muck.

No real surprise with the revelation of kyogo wanting to leave ourselves earlier than anticipated, and personally believe that he doesn’t like working under Rodgers as a huge factor imo?

Jota? Haven’t a clue what to expect from him now.
Brilliant if we see the return of the player we once knew.
But will he be that player after the millions earned with producing so very little?

Wouldn’t be surprised that Maeda is going to be the replacement for kyogo.
Jota to eventually be the replacement for Maeda, if not straight away.
So thinking Rodgers may well be looking for another wide right player, instead of a striker moreso, in the remainder of this window imo?
Yang operates better on the left, even though I expect him to be sold in the summer.
And we can call upon Maeda also.
Even forrest will jump ahead of Yang upon his return from injury.

So enough options on our left side, to see the season out.
Not so much upon the right at present.
Again forrest when he returns.
Even Jota and Maeda never looked as comfortable or as productive on the right, same with Yang.

So could it be a case of another wide right option, could well be more beneficial to ourselves, than the out and out striker, we are going to struggle to get mid season?

Expect Palma to be another of our changes allowed after the villa game, so maybe far more options available in an attacking sence, without the opposition actually knowing which 3 we could start and finish a match, could be the way forward from now on?

What makes you think that Kyogo didn’t like working under Brendan ?
Do you have any evidence of this

Chairbhoy
January 26, 2025 12:05 pm

St tams @ 11:59 am,

Hope all’s good…

Very salient point…

Here’s what Matt O’Riley was saying about Brendan – my feeling is “Rodgers” is very good with quality players….

He [Matt O’Riley] has struggled to get going so far on the south coast, though, and has recently reflected on his time in Glasgow, explaining how beneficial Rodgers’ management style was for him: “He [Brendan] put a lot of trust in me,” he said

. “That’s the reason last year came to fruition like it did. I had a manager that really believed in me – and he made me aware of that. That was really nice. By doing that, it allows you to have freedom on the pitch.

“I learned so much off Brendan, I try to be as open as I can be to improving.”

O’Riley now works under the current youngest manager in the English Premier League, Fabian Hurzeler.

The German is only 31, although O’Riley reckons there are some key differences between how he and Rodgers work: “Brendan has been around football a long time,” he said.

“Our manager is great but, respectively, he’s still very young in his career. Their approaches are always going to be different. But Brendan was great for me. He was always very approachable and you could speak to him any time.
