Sayonara And Bem-Vindo
Morning,all.
I think by now that everyone is aware of my aversion to prodigals, that “you should never go back.” Be that as it may, I can hardly be critical of stats-obsessed football commentators reeling off historical data which is of little relevance to the game we are watching if I pull the Bertie Auld rabbit out of the hat every time a possible return for a previous hero is mooted.
I groan every time I hear a commentator reel off this nonsense. Who wants to know that Melchester Rovers haven’t lost to Glasgow Gasworks United in sixty years when they have scored first after a missed penalty, or whatever nonsense they come out with. Usually greeted by a chorus of “Absholutely, that’sh for shoor and I’ll tell you shumshin elsh…” from his lobotomised jakey sidekick?
My argument in these circumstances is that each game is to be taken on its own merits, that current form may matter but stuff from sixty years ago sure as hell doesn’t.
I therefore greet the signing of Jota yesterday with loud hurrahs, cheering to the rooftops. After all, it is only around sixteen months ago that he was one of our top men, arguably the fans’ favourite-and for good reason too. He was just completing a treble-winning season to add to his double the previous year. And speaking of doubles, we could forgive him the double denim. Hell, he looked like he could carry it off, so why not?
I certainly didn’t grudge him his move to Saudi, arguing that in three years time he would be 26yo with £30m tax-free in the bank. And young enough yet to continue to make his career back at the top level. Never for a minute did I think that his time post-Celtic would turn out as it has. Never for a minute did I think we would see him back in our colours either, and certainly not so soon.
Signing a 25yo with only two decent seasons in his career to date would normally bring its own question marks. And I won’t lie to you, there has to be a concern that the months since he left will have left him struggling for confidence and even more for match fitness. We shouldn’t expect to see many MOTM performances from him in the early weeks, though with a player like Jota I reckon anything is possible.
So, welcome back. We love hunskelpers, and Jota certainly meets the mark on that score.
Speaking of hunskelpers, the downside to the deal is the departure of one. Kyogo. I’m sad to see him leave, and I wish him well. I hope the move works for him, and that he is a roaring success. And that he achieves his dream of a recall to his national team, which I believe is the main motivation for this otherwise strange move. And, of course, I stand by every word of my article on the subject a week ago. Especially the part about the terrible timing of the move.
The onus is now on our recruitment team to earn their corn by finding a replacement, and they have less than a week to do so. No pressure then! The reason for such a ludicrously short timescale is obvious-they have sat on their hands for the first four weeks of the window. Even though they were aware months ago that Kyogo wanted to leave (and that the club was happy to facilitate that) there have been no obvious attempts to get a replacement. And this time there is no Mark Lawwell around to point the finger at either.
It is entirely down to Nicholson, Rodgers and Co that we now find ourselves even shorter up front than before-and given the lack of goals so far from our striking spearhead, that is playing with fire. It’s bad enough that we head to Villa Park tomorrow night with only Idah and the untested Cummings available, but it is unthinkable that they and the equally untried Johnny Kenny will have to see us through till the end of the season.
So much for a well-run club,huh?

Mike you never can tell, most of these sites are more than likely going on guesswork alone, some have Kasper on as low as 12k a week, I doubt such an experienced International keeper would get out his bed for 12k.
Johno 8.03 pm
Agreed about our preparation, or lack there of.
Not sure what the club is thinking, however in Europe you never know. V Dortmund we were going in all guns blazing and got absolutely scudded. Atalanta and RB we surprised ourselves, Zagreb and Brugge we disappointed ourselves.
So, there’s no rhyme or reason to predicting what Celtic will turn up in Europe.
I always hope for the best, but expect the worst. However, the Huns have shown they the EPL is very overrated.
The advance party of the Kilwinning CSC are ensconced in Hennessy’s trying out the ambience and the expensive drink!
Leaving shortly for Nortons for further libations👍
CCB have a blast young fella 👍
Is “Dray” just the collective noun for red squirrels?
Mags Scurry of squirrels
Dray can be dragged or pulled too like a carriage
Ok I’ll bet on a draw at 3-1
I get Celtic win 5-1

ASWGL

Yeah Dray is a group of squirrels
I thought a dray was a nest of squirrels, and a bunch of them was called a scurry/
Mike yep that’s correct
So no immediate Jota?

Jota had a fling?
Jota is the thing?
Jota doesny Ming?

Jota on at Motherwell ?
Well might no be till spring ?
You guys could be right about the collective noun for Squirrels
I was trying to differentiate between UK English and American English
between red and grey
between Celtic lying fucks and what’s really going on.
Sorry.
A park near me in TO was home to apparently rare black squirrels (something like 1 in 10,000) and the even more rare white squirrels. Lots of news about them a few years ago. Only reason I knew what a scurry of squirrels was.
MIT
that’s the thing about you Canadians when it comes to squirrels. Racism.

Trusty and Scales for tomorrow😮. Trusty on the right is a feckin’ disaster waiting to happen, either Trusty and Scales on the left without CCV is just a potential disaster waiting to happen. So who is the sub CB going to be – who is registered to play in the comp?????
Bada

I believe that would be Nawrocki.😱
ATOB
Do you have tickets ?
Johnno
I’m sure Welsh would have made a difference 😉
Trusty and Scales were our centre back pairing when we kept a clean sheet against Atalanta.
lighteningtostriketwiceCSC
Trusty was the SenCel Man Of The Match. Scales was 2nd.
ST TAMS
No,they don’t. Hardly any left after corporate got their whack.
Here’s what I’m wondering about the 3 changes we can make to the 25 man CL squad for the next round.
Kyogo, Welsh and Valle are gone, so at least 3 openings.
Presumably Jota will fill one slot.
If we manage to get KT on loan, that will be 2.
The third is presumably a new striker?
In that scenario, if Palma or Yang, or Nawrocki, or any other player in the remaining 22 is punted, we can’t fill the slot. It’s pure brinkmanship. Celtic’s strategic planning here is not exactly sterling. This could be shambolic.
Monster munch
Celtic will do well to get a draw tomorrow.
I don’t think McGinns arse will play a roll?
IQV4
next round?
just say for sake of discussion that table standings remain as is. Next round is Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. I think we’re gonna need a bigger boat
INI if Palma and Yang go we can add 4 players to our 25
If five or six players from a List A squad are no longer registered with the club at the end of the January window, they can add four new players.
The deadline for squad alterations to be submitted to UEFA is midnight on Thursday, February 6
MAGS
Too many permutations to make a decent call on where we finish, much less who will occupy the spot of our likely opponent. I’ll wait till after the results come in before I read it and weep. Plus, even at that,we face a draw on Friday to decide which of two it will be.
Bobby
I bet you we get beat in both.
i don’t mind losing
ASWGL
Didn’t actually know that was a rule, as always thought that only a maximum of 3 changes could be made to the original 25man squad?
Hope your right as it allows ourselves more time and opportunities to make the changes that will be required for ourselves, before next season imo
Johnno I think I may have picked it up wrong and that wiggle room is only available to clubs in the likes of Norway and Sweden as their calendar year season is different, and ours is a summer to spring season.
Yeah looks like we are 3 only.
