Paradise Regained
Morning,all.
We are back in action today with a home match against Motherwell, our first time at home on Boxing Day for some time. Which is nice, because I’ll be there in person. Events have conspired against me this year and this is my first trip home since last Christmas-hopefully that won’t happen again!-so it will be my first time at Celtic Park since 2nd January. And that’s too big a gap anaw.
Of course, no matter how long any of us stay away or even if we are there for every home game, there is always that special feeling when The Holy Ground finally comes into sight. In my case, it is as I am walking down from Duke Street and those amazing high stands appear. I might be into my 60s now, but I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck rising just as they did when I was a wee 4yo seeing the floodlights peeking through the gloom as we came in from the Dalmarnock approach. It’s such a special feeling, and I hope it’s not just me!
Strictly speaking,we come into today’s match on the back of three successive draws. But since one of them includes the League Cup Final victory on penalties, who cares? (Actually, our opponents do, and they seem to be taking it rather badly, but I’ll briefly discuss that near the end of the article.) So we could probably do with a wee goalfest today just to settle the nerves a little, get our forward line back into the habit of hitting the back of the net, our midfield back into the habit of playing with their backs to our own goal rather than that of our opponents. It’s the start of a wee run of four games in ten days, three of which are at home. And they are the perfect opportunity to set us up for the second half of the season.
Apart from the importance of the three points, today is ideal for checking up on the progress of one of our rumoured transfer targets. Motherwell undoubtedly have one of the rising stars in the Scottish game, the 18yo Lennon Miller. While he is a midfielder, he is too young yet to have his “own” particular settled role there, being used right across the middle by his club as events dictate. And even at that tender age, he has captained the side, been called up to the national squad, and been “linked” to various clubs across England and the continent.
Is he someone we should be looking at? Of course he is, it would be foolish to say otherwise. And while we already have five players for the three midfield places, injury and suspension can soon make that look threadbare. I’ll pass on the likelihood of us signing him, other than to say that he probably won’t be at Motherwell too much longer. BR knows the type of player he wants, and the board have recently shown that they are happy enough to back his judgment.
Of more importance is the personnel we will be fielding today. Sunday saw us drop two points at Tannadice, due in no small part to a hugely depleted squad as injury and illness took their toll on us. I’m never in favour of fielding players who aren’t 100% fit, even when their replacements aren’t of the same quality. Let players recover fully before putting them back in the firing line; partially fit players rarely do themselves or the side justice, and can set back their recovery by some time. There may be no certainty about the starting XI or the result, but in football there never is.
Except of course there is always the certainty of our Ibrox-based rivals releasing a statement on the back of their latest temper tantrum! This one arrived at SFA HQ just in time for Christmas too, doncha just love them. Peace and goodwill to all men, etc. They are still slightly miffed about being awarded a free kick on the edge of the box last Sunday, and instead of blaming the two, possibly three, officials with most responsibility for that-it’s one, actually. Beaton blew the whistle for the foul before any penalty box controversy-they have now focused in on the lowest ranked official on the day,the VAR Assistant.
The hierarchy of matchday officials is:
Referee
VAR
Asst Referee 1 and 2
Fourth Official
VAR Assistant.
Blaming the VAR assistant is a bit like blaming the school janny when you fail your O-grades, but commonsense and the huns rarely go hand in hand. I doubt Frank Connor, for it is he, will be too bothered by it all, but it will be interesting to see how his career progresses from here. For a club which has only one voice and one vote at the table, same as every other club, they don’t half seem inclined to use it more often than any others. And the fact that they have yet to face a disrepute or similar charge just encourages them in their quest to steamroller their way through any and every regulation applied to the rest of us.
If the SFA and other member clubs are as fed up with it as we are, then they have a strange way of showing it. Throw the bloody book at them, same as they would any other club, manager or player who came out with this even once. Otherwise, get bloody used to it.

BR knows what he is doing.
Makes best use of the squad available for selection.
Perfect example today.

Better second half. Subs made an impact. I’ll happily take that
Engels MoM award looks like a wee bit of psychology to boost his confidence.
Hope it works.
Possibly the only way to break down these teams that are determined to sit-in and defend, with 11 players behind the ball.

Thanks for that revelation!!!
And I thought in the first we were just demonstrating our training regimen ?
Second half we moved ball into areas easier to score from with positive subs.
Quite a different second half! More creativity and faster movement forward.
Engels MOT??? Pourquoi?
only negative Kyogo did not score. He deserves one.
Hatate and Calmac played very well together. Taylor played more forward passes.
Here is a question. If some team offered us 9 million for Idah and 11 million for Engels, should we take either of these offers?
It won’t happen of course!
Rebus
Auldheid – True.
I’m always complaining about Brendan, playing the same system/formation each game, however I’m beginning to understand why he does this.
What else can you do, when the opposition are so negative?
And I’m not blaming the other teams, playing this way – it’s understandable to a certain extent, because if they try to attack they’ll almost inevitably be obliterated by half time.

Not if being a football team is our main priority.
But if I am honest not convinced Idah was worth it.
Engels has some growth potential so wouldn’t consider selling.

It’s possible Motherwell began to tire, because they were chasing after the ball so much?
Don’t think Ange will have a job come 8pm tonight, but as it’s the EPL i’m sure he won’t have to wait long for another job offer to come his way.
Peter Grant saying Hatate made the difference.
Crucially pointed out he gets criticised when his forward passes get intercepted but if they are not attempted then it’s risk free passing that gets us nowhere.
Comfortable come the end once we started to lift heads and play passes into space as opposed to where players are. Job done and on to Sunday…

Suggest you watch first half again if you are implying they’re chasing tired them out.
They basically held position as our side to side and backwards pass so passing allowed them to set comfortably.
When subs with forward intent came on in 2nd half that’s when they started chasing.
Not sure I’ve ever seen the possession stat so high. We finished the game with 84% possession yet only 7 shots on target. Another weird one was Motherwell only committed 10 fouls but had 5 players booked and they couldn’t muster a single shot on target the whole game.
Fan- Ok.
The manager got the team selection wrong.
People have been complaining about Kyogo and Hatate for months.
Kuhn is arguably our best player, however he’s been injured therefore it’s understandable as to why he didn’t start the game.
Ah well, all well that ends well (no puns intended).
Just back and reading back..
hyper critical on here.
Bobby jinxing it first half.
A penalty and three breakaways !
’Well consistently fouling as a tackle.
Ref bloody dreadful.
Buddies penalty. Goal, 1-0 St Mirren.
Was there much difference in our penalty compared to St Mirrens in terms of the goalkeeper committing the foul
Where the hell did the ref find 6 added minutes at St Mirren?
Sol Kitts
In his wee blue book.
Or in a lodge directive?
Well player should of been booked for simulation

Just seen Butland’s challenge at the penalty. Stonewaller and should have been a red card. If that’s not endangering an opponent then nowt is.
The St Mirren player should have stayed down acting injured as he was clattered, the Hun would.
Why did VAR take over 3 minutes there? For a valid goal?So they can add on 8 minutes
Amorim’s replacement at Sporting already been fired after just 8 games. Have to wonder how much time Amorim’s will get. And think Guardiola will jump if not polished.
Wonder what odds you would have got at the start of the season if you had bet Sporting, United and City would replace their managers before the New year ….
Uh oh.
St Mirren score a 2nd in the 93rd minute.
Get the ball in the box – 57 touches – result is goals and goal scoring opportunities.
Motherwell less adept at defending at Celtic Park than D Utd at home, in horrendous conditions and with our weakened squad – quelle surprise.
Same again on Sunday and we are well set up for our visit to the Hate factory in a weeks time.
The same worriers who had little confidence in a league victory last season, when we struggled for a time as the Huns put together a few results, although their deficiencies were all too apparent, are full of know better criticism and angst again.
Time to rein in the monotonous negativity?
Maybe find some festive cheer?
Just put the radio on haha
Some hit that.
Butland beaten low to his left. Imagine that 😂😂
The huns get 16 mins added to their game, 8 each half.
In our game there were 5 subs each and 3 goals in 2nd half and only 3 mins added. Mmmm.
2-1 St Mirren in Bobby Tait time 😁😁
Had a feeling it was gonna be one of those days 😉
12 points clear.
Thon Dickinson is one cheating bassa.
Big Audio Dynamite
😁😁
Well, well, well…this shit Celtic team are currently 12 points ahead of the chasing pack!! Who’d’a thunk it!!! 🤣🤣🤣
If Carlsberg did Boxing Days 😁😁
The Huns really have had a crappy Christmas haven’t they 😂😂😂
Just Sayin’@7.40…don’t be ridiculous! 🤪
Baldemort talking to his assistant there with hands over their mouths.
Me thinks he’s asking ‘Are we really this close to the Airport?‘….
Win against St Johnstone and we can send the B Team to the Bigotdome.
GIRFUT
12pts and 26 goals ahead
McCaff
Who on this blog has said Celtic are a shit team?
What a tackle to win the ball

Fan…no-one, but if you happened to drop in during a game that’s what is being described in some of the comments. Not pointing any fingers but…🫵😁
Craig…i doubt the Hun ref thought that’d lead to the winner otherwise he’d have pulled it back for a foul on Sterling!
3 Huns chasing guy who crossed initial ball.
No wonder the central area was unprotected!!
I did post their fixture list after Tannadice.
St Mirren exceeded my draw expectations but I would be surprised if Motherwell take any at weekend.
However Hibs away is no gimme.
If we go to Ibrox 12 in front a draw is a result.
One thing noticeable about St Mirren was their physique.
Big laddies who win tackles.
Mc Caff
Witty.
Problem with this site is anyone dissenting with a certain groups opinion gets pelters.
Never reasoned debate to their points just finger pointing and accusations of being negative supporters
McCaff i’m surprised he didn’t blow his whistle.
Still 30 mins of sportscene left, should be a laugh
