Eagerly awaited

Jeez, it feels like only yesterday we failed to peel those Tangerines, mind you the game was at their midden, and was technically last year, so the chance to set the record straight has fallen pretty quickly which is timely.

As is the weather, temperatures will swing a massive 8 degrees between daytime and nighttime, which is one way of saying it will be Baltic at Parkhead tonight, today, until Spring at least.

While conditions may be poor, there’s always something special about a midweek game under the floodlights. Nighttime games just have a nostalgic feeling, and the pre-match libations usually help deliver a lively support seeking that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with watching us play the Celtic way. How we play, how we are playing I should say, has been somewhat of a source of debate even spilling over into a bit of public spat, which by itself makes tonight’s clash that bit more interesting.

Brendan made a rod for his own back in hitting out (in his own way) at the support, which in turn leads me to believe the support will hit back (in their own way) should the occasion call for it. A Green Brigade banner reminding those in the corridors of power the Celtic support are permanent whilst they are temporary wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. Dull uninspiring play may well draw statement howls from a support feeling entitled to hit back, as would another bit-part post match lap of honour.

There’s one way to cast all that aside though and move forward, literally and figuratively. A rip roaring performance that leaves no questions, fast free flowing football that’s pleasing on the eye, a plain old fashioned thumping of the opposition would really help everyone to get back on track and send a large message of reassurance that this squad is getting better and the good times will roll on despite our nose being bloodied at Ibrox and the verbal slap down that’s got Celtic cyberspace in a tizzy.

Easy enough then, one really good game to reset the narrative and leave all feeling rosey again, football’s equivalent of buying the missus flowers and/or a box of chocolates. But as some idiot once said, when it comes to chocolates you never know what you’re going to get, and that’s certainly the case in football with its beautiful unpredictability.

Having got my team selection completely wrong at the weekend, it’s time I just acknowledge we don’t have a settled 11 you can hang your hat on, Kasper aside nothing surprises me anymore. I suppose that’s a good thing, we have more depth than any other team, perhaps more depth than any other time from the past, but there’s various angles at play with regards to team selection. I’ve a feeling the manager needs to see his summer purchases really shine in order to continually assure those holding the purse strings, plus the Greg Taylor situation has been allowed to snowball into a potential problem. Here’s my take on that.
Basically KT’s desire to come home would have been known, was known, which lead to no agreed fee to buy Valle, no pay rise to top tier wage bracket for Greg as he will be second choice behind his fellow Scotland International, and EBT Arteta is loathe to help out the Leather Belts by accepting any fee in January. It’s not an ideal situation, was such events are part and parcel of football. But I do hold a degree of sympathy for GT here, any subpar performance will be met by critics saying he’s protecting himself to get a big Bosman, any top drawer performance will be met by critics saying he’s only playing well to get a big Bosman, any backpass rather than forward pass gets met with howls of derision. Its a bit damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t, while the threat of injury and unemployment if injured hovers. But if KT and new back up (he will be needed) turn out better than GT and Valle, then alls well that ends well.

Call me old fashioned in my belief energetic players are called for on a frigid night, call me naive if I say it might be a game to rest a few legs as we approach our biggest European games in years, but given all the current circumstances and side-angles involved, this game has taken on more importance than usual,
Eagerly awaited?
Aye, sounds about right.

The number of places you visit that are closed when you arrive……
Maybe someone’s calling ahead to let them know you’re on your way?
Mind you, arriving in Ardrossan and finding it closed is a bonus.
Did I ever tell you about the time I short circuited the Electric Brae?

Mahe I enjoyed your leader again.

It’s going to be a cold one tonight at the game so wrap up well Bhoys with your half and half Wolves/Celtic scarf while applauding every backwards pass, and chanting the Last Christmas/Ange Postecoglou song. 😀

What’s not to like though 13 points ahead, a cup in the locker, possible treble, and CL beyond Christmas, it’s great to be a Tim, mon the hoops ☘️

Plenty of valid points being made regarding Taylor and St brendan tactical approach?
Just hope neither are reading as another outburst awaits.

For my own tuppence worth, if you see potential problems arising, for which many have been raised, mainly along the same lines, then frustration grows, the longer they are left unaddressed?
The more frustration grows, the less tolerance will exist.
Always a job for the manager to address, yet currently nothing, except towards the support for the actions some might take, for what they continue to see?
So at present a vicious circle is potentially in operation at present, and only at the half way stage of a season?

Always felt that the inverted full back role given to Taylor, is more for creating overloads in the midfield areas, especially with only 3 in operation as midfielders.
3 of them 2 are used moreso in an attacking midfield role moreso, so Taylor accommodating Calmac moreso, with a box midfield in operation, within a split midfield?
Not anything special in a tactical ploy these days either?
Against the scum, it doesn’t work against the 4231, which leaves Calmac totally exposed, and could become an issue within CL and better footballing players, who will gladly expose the weekness, like the scum were able to do?

So Taylor is currently a very pivotal player, within how Rodgers sets the team up, which is currently no different to Ange really imo?
Yet we are operating with Taylor as possibly our least influential player in an attacking sence, along with possibly being regarded as our weakest link within a defensive manner also imo?
So fail to see how such a pivotal position is being occupied by ourpossiblyweakest attacking and defensive option with our team at present, and somehow Rodgers doesn’t seem to think that it’s an issue whatsoever?

Furthermore, all this talk of Tierney returning, is he going to be the solution to the existing problem, especially as he has never been used in such a role, that I can recall?
Such a tactical plan, will usually work within the SPFL, with a 5 man midfield will tend to use there wider midfield, to double up upon Maeda and kuhn, which makes Taylor role all the more important in trying to create the overload?

Simple enough tactical approach, especially when Calmac is being tied up more often these days.
Yet, are we looking for a better option than Taylor to do such a pivotal role for the team?
I believe we should, along with addressing this tactical weakness that exists imo?
Would a proper DM option, allow to free up Calmac moreso, with a proper back 3 in place, to cover the space better than we currently have in operation?
We have seen no change within the approach taken by Rodgers, yet teams are getting far too familiar with our set up, which hasn’t really changed that much in going on 4 seasons now?
Of course the claims will be, about the amount of success gained with having such a tactical set up in operation?
But that remains only at Scottish football levels, and not convinced that it will be good enough for CL, especially if the weakness in operation at present, isn’t addressed going forward within our season imo?
No excuse if not addressed, especially whilst a transfer window is open either?

Been called many a thing in my time, and a fair few of them unprintable, but being referred to as a scum supporter, is a very low blow indeed.
Anyway, it’s been a privilege to be hun scum zombies free zone, within emerald isle.
Or that’s what I thought until recently?
One is within our estate, undercover mind you, and best stay that way also.
But my son was over and went drinking, and came back steaming going on about this great fella he had a few scoups with while in his Celtic gear.

Now have to admit that our relationship has deteriorated somewhat, since that unfortunate encounter.

Evening all, selling down after a busy day painting outside walls in lovely 18 degrees winter sun here in southern Valencian region.

Listened to 80s tunes as I thought about BRs comments this past few days. I understand his frustration at groans in back passing but not his criticism of fans choice of songs or his contradictory position on GT.

On one hand he’s part of hierarchy at Celtic offering him a low ball deal, whilst seeking publically to court Kieran Tierney. Disrespectful?? On the other, he’s upset about the wee fellas feelings.

So, methinks KT is not coming in Jan, I’m certain of it. Secondly, he needs GT for now . Third he needs a back up LB till KT arrives.

As Rebus said, Penrice at Hearts would be a smart option. A no risk signing for £1m or thereabouts. £2m max.

Typed this question on Google there now:

Why does Brendan Rodgers always play the same formation?

This is what the result was:

AI Overview

+1

Brendan Rodgers has used a variety of formations over the years, including 3-4-3, 4–5–1, 3–5–2, 4–4–2, 4–3–3, and a diamond formation:

  • 3-4-3: A formation that Rodgers has been successful with, described as exciting and dominating centrally. However, some say it can be difficult for players to adapt to mid-game, and it can struggle to penetrate a low-block defense.
  • 3-4-2-1: A formation that Rodgers described as the hardest system he had ever coached, because it’s essentially the same system with and without the ball.
  • Diamond formation: A formation that Rodgers used during the 2013–14 season.

Lot of nonsense.

Unbelievable.
