Eagerly awaited
Jeez, it feels like only yesterday we failed to peel those Tangerines, mind you the game was at their midden, and was technically last year, so the chance to set the record straight has fallen pretty quickly which is timely.
As is the weather, temperatures will swing a massive 8 degrees between daytime and nighttime, which is one way of saying it will be Baltic at Parkhead tonight, today, until Spring at least.
While conditions may be poor, there’s always something special about a midweek game under the floodlights. Nighttime games just have a nostalgic feeling, and the pre-match libations usually help deliver a lively support seeking that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with watching us play the Celtic way. How we play, how we are playing I should say, has been somewhat of a source of debate even spilling over into a bit of public spat, which by itself makes tonight’s clash that bit more interesting.
Brendan made a rod for his own back in hitting out (in his own way) at the support, which in turn leads me to believe the support will hit back (in their own way) should the occasion call for it. A Green Brigade banner reminding those in the corridors of power the Celtic support are permanent whilst they are temporary wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. Dull uninspiring play may well draw statement howls from a support feeling entitled to hit back, as would another bit-part post match lap of honour.
There’s one way to cast all that aside though and move forward, literally and figuratively. A rip roaring performance that leaves no questions, fast free flowing football that’s pleasing on the eye, a plain old fashioned thumping of the opposition would really help everyone to get back on track and send a large message of reassurance that this squad is getting better and the good times will roll on despite our nose being bloodied at Ibrox and the verbal slap down that’s got Celtic cyberspace in a tizzy.
Easy enough then, one really good game to reset the narrative and leave all feeling rosey again, football’s equivalent of buying the missus flowers and/or a box of chocolates. But as some idiot once said, when it comes to chocolates you never know what you’re going to get, and that’s certainly the case in football with its beautiful unpredictability.
Having got my team selection completely wrong at the weekend, it’s time I just acknowledge we don’t have a settled 11 you can hang your hat on, Kasper aside nothing surprises me anymore. I suppose that’s a good thing, we have more depth than any other team, perhaps more depth than any other time from the past, but there’s various angles at play with regards to team selection. I’ve a feeling the manager needs to see his summer purchases really shine in order to continually assure those holding the purse strings, plus the Greg Taylor situation has been allowed to snowball into a potential problem. Here’s my take on that.
Basically KT’s desire to come home would have been known, was known, which lead to no agreed fee to buy Valle, no pay rise to top tier wage bracket for Greg as he will be second choice behind his fellow Scotland International, and EBT Arteta is loathe to help out the Leather Belts by accepting any fee in January. It’s not an ideal situation, was such events are part and parcel of football. But I do hold a degree of sympathy for GT here, any subpar performance will be met by critics saying he’s protecting himself to get a big Bosman, any top drawer performance will be met by critics saying he’s only playing well to get a big Bosman, any backpass rather than forward pass gets met with howls of derision. Its a bit damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t, while the threat of injury and unemployment if injured hovers. But if KT and new back up (he will be needed) turn out better than GT and Valle, then alls well that ends well.
Call me old fashioned in my belief energetic players are called for on a frigid night, call me naive if I say it might be a game to rest a few legs as we approach our biggest European games in years, but given all the current circumstances and side-angles involved, this game has taken on more importance than usual,
Eagerly awaited?
Aye, sounds about right.

We’ve had our warning.
All very pretty patterns, but if they do not culminate in an attempt at goal, what’s the friggin’ point?
twice AJ has been easily beaten.
His spacing from attacker is too large.
Trying to walk the ball into the net. Just having a shot occasionally would be nice.
Talking of empty jerseys enter Palma
Could do with a second goal. God knows where it’s coming from though.
BR knows best remember.
Pointless possession wears opponent out.
You can see Utd running out of steam.
Clancy, Utd’s best player.
Reo!!!!!
HATATE!!
Yesss. Hatate makes it 2
Hatate 2-0
Funny what happens when you shoot.
Brilliant by Bernardo.
Bernardo brilliant footballing brains there for that goal. Great pass from Palma and lovely finish from Reo
Bernardo with two dummies. First for Maeda to lay it,second for Hatate to finish. Clever stuff.
Good cross Palma and double dummy by Bernardo.
Great dummy by Bernardo 😁
Excellent cross from Palma,btw.
The greatest coaching tandem since Clough and Taylor?
Slippy G and Beale win the league in Scotland, but then both crap out after going their own ways.
Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq started this season 1-2-5, but have gone 3-1-1 since Beale has joined his coaching staff.
Maybe the dynamic duo will replace PC when he gets kicked upstairs
Clancy a complete asshole.
Kyogo has done more than that lump of wood Idah did in a much shorter time.
Mind you Kyogo has moved his feet.
Hatate right idea, but execution poor.
at the end of the day celtic supporters spend their hard earned cash to be entertained, that was not entertainment, sorry
“Martin O’Neill” being sung by fans. I cannot imagine a scenario in 20 yrs from now that BRs name is being sung, unless he leads us to European glory.
That must kill him.
Bernardo unlucky with shot from distance.
Palma unlucky from distance with last kick.
Comfortable enough victory. Unconvincing performance.
Tottenham advertising “Train With Spurs”
I didn’t realise they were that short of players.
Spurs one up. Maybe.
Nope. Offside.
A win, 3 points and a clean sheet, and that’s about it!
Onwards to Dingwall.

I thought 1st half we were as sharp I’ve seen us for a few weeks, high tempo, great movement against 2 banks of 5

Tottenham have confirmed Rodrigo Bentancur is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks after being stretchered off the pitch in the first half against Liverpool.

Cannot argue with that.

Well, there’s also the little matter of 16 points clear.🤣
INIQUITOUS IV,
😁😁😁
Didn’t want to upset any lurking huns 😁

Solanke showed great strength to hold off Konate.
One of those going through the motions games. Not a lot to be upset about and not a lot to shout about either.
We’ve all been there, cold night, feet freezing, just wanting to get back to the car or run for the train home.
I worry for Idah.

Bit unfair on Idah
Did you miss Kyogos first 2 touches when he came on
I agree the ref was at it. He set DU up with dangerous set pieces and ignored similar fouls on Celtic players. In the first half McCowan was elbowed in the face, he let play continue in the DU box and then called a halt. Then he awarded a drop ball to DU. It was a clear foul to Celtic at the edge of the DU box. Very poor, or very deliberate…you choose.
Did anyone else think some of the players looked spent? Johnson, McCowan, in particular looked done. Trusty looked vulnerable in the second half.
Palma looked like he wanted to impress. His cross for the second goal was impressive, although DU had abandoned the two walls of five by that point.
One big worry, if we get as much possession as we did in the first half, with much of it in and around the box, we need to score more than once. All of those crosses and only one goal. Against better teams we shall suffer for that.
Engels is clearly the real deal now. I rushed to judgement on Kuhn(last season) and Engels, so I shall stay relatively quiet on Idah, but I do not see anything there at the moment that can be built upon.
Have a great evening,
Rebus
St Tams
At least Kyogo showed for the ball.
He also forced the goalie into a good save.
Idah did none of the above.
Rebus,
I’m just home and missed game.
‘Engels is clearly the real deal now.’
Not only am I delighted to read that but I’m curious as to how he played.
I’m all ears if you fancy typing a breakdown but I’ll fully understand if you decline.
Smiling at the support singing for Martin. Smart, boxing clever.
Delighted to see Spurs win also.
Hail Hail
