Vacant position needs filling!

Sack The Kitman!
An important game on a Saturday night and he only went and forgot the scoring boots for the whole team!

It was one hell of a game to watch with a little bit of everything thrown in, an action packed spectacle to behold, for better and for worse.
Opening at a frantic pace, being paused, re-opening at a frantic pace, after Celtic scored the opener the first 13 minutes alone was worth the admission money, and now the early goal was achieved, now the Bhoys were clearly in attack mode, the game had statement victory written all over it. There was a statement made alright, but not the expected one. What transpired was as infuriating as it was mesmerizing.

We walked off at halftime drawing, leaving many thousands in disbelief.
A team that had stupendous amounts of possession. carved opening after opening, played and passed their best in weeks maybe months,,,heard a smattering of boo’s heading down the tunnel.
Whilst that might sound harsh, it only occurred because there’s no noise invented yet for ‘what the actual f#$k is going on here?’

By the 60th minute I was thinking to myself I’m glad MacInnes walked away from R2ngers because his tactics can cause us real problems and with a better standard of player he could have our number. They had man-marked Engles out of the game, Reo generally had two quickly around him, and after they pushed up the field around 35 minutes they were a thorn in our side. But not the main thorn.

As for their equalizer I’ll return to an old footballing cliche,,you can tell by the players (collective) reaction. Our players seen the handball, and instinctively stopped and raised hands as a unit. They were fully convinced, wholeheartedly, no argument.
Two weeks ago Ange was the victim of the same situation, I wrote about it. The Aussie wasn’t impressed, now we all know how he felt.
Incredibly a handball in the box is allowed in certain circumstances, phase of play etc.
The clear problem is that players (ours on Saturday) instinct kicks in, and they see a handball and automatically envisage a free kick, because it’s been that way from time immortal, until this season. Some things get done away with and the players can consciously change their game and mentality, things like the keeper picking up a backpass or two footed tackles,,easy enough to phase out. Having players ignore handball is a completely different kettle of fish. It goes against their nature, all they’ve learnt and experienced. It’s a ridiculous rule that needs scrapped ASAP!

When the subs rocked up I thought here we go, these bhoys will fix this. Incredibly, the same ‘disease’ infected them upon entering the field of play, typified by an Adam lead 4 on 2 attack fizzling out.

Murphys Law said ‘can’t miss ‘em all’ and sure enough on the 70th minute Daizen stuck away the winner.
We held on, we progress.
But my goodness,,,,
I don’t think I shall ever witness such a game again.
On another day it would have been 7-0, and that would have flattered the opposition. I firmly believe I’ll never again see any Celtic team squander chance after chance after chance after chance,,I could go on.
It was ridiculous verging on laughable. From good to bad, over and over again. Good play and build-up, bad finishing to say the least.
It was our season in a nutshell, ultimately emerge on top but showing a big flaw.

With all that in mind, the fact we created soo many chances is a real positive, I thought we were excellent at times, crisp and zippy, really dangerous. Young Boys may laugh, but Celtic actually played well which is a bonus heading into Wednesday, as is staying in the Cup. It was only an off-day upfront, of epic proportions which won’t be repeated, couldn’t be repeated. It came in The Scottish Cup not in Europe or the SPL, but we won.
Where’s Harry Kewell, we miss him.
Call Harry Potter too, we need a potion to cancel that spell that infected us.

I called for Reo, I was granted my wish and watched him closely. He should have had a goal and an assist, pulled out a few lovely passes and justified his selection in these eyes.
Kuhn and Kyogo should have bagged a hat-trick each, but it was telling that Brendan turned to Liam to make the left back area more secure. Greg was fine on the day, very attack natured, if anything AJ was quiet.
Kudos to both ‘Keepers for some excellent saves.

But Brendan, from all of us to you, can you please hire a striking coach, because we’ve all lost our voice after yelling “PUT IT IN THE BLOODY NET MAN!” for 90 plus minutes.

Mahe

Was a very pleasing performance, except for our finishing, so very welcome overall.

Think kuhn had won the motm award after 30 seconds, with leaving a hun flat on his back in pain at paradise, always a welcome sight in my book.

Shame the same wasn’t applied to the kille hun scum manager also, which would have happened if our players had put there goal scoring boots on.

Hatate still split opinions on the previous tread, but like yourself mahe, along with a fair few others, I was in team Hatate camp today also.
Boo boo to those who weren’t.

Finally think Trusty deserves a mention also.
Personally was against him starting tonight after his last few performances.
But repaid the trust Rodgers showed with sticking with him.
Nothing spectacular from him, but showed great character today, by not panicking and keeping things far more simpler for himself, within his own game.
Hopefully that’s the confidence boost he needs for Wednesday taken care of, maybe more so for ourselves all the same.

If any game was to give up so many missed chances, possibly tonight in a cup match is the best option, if a choice was offered imo?

I thought we were great today… I know missed chances etc.

But, we didn’t stop attacking.

Left the house at half time as link wasn’t working, went round to Traders and they had the game on about 6 x TV’s in the bar. By god you should have heard the slaughtering of our players, WOW. One mad female.

Now, I’m a positive person but, listening to the loonies in Traders I’m thinking these CUNTS don’t deserve CELTIC. PERIOD!

Not long in from the game. I thought Hatate had his best game in months today. He missed an absolute sitter which I am now away to watch again on the highlights but that aside he should have had four assists today but was let down by the forwards. It would not have been a stretch to say we should have had 8 goals today and I agree with Bada that it’s the best we’ve played for a long time, maybe since Aberdeen semi.
We do have to learn to deal with a high press especially from pish like Kilmarnock though. The players just seem to get spooked. One minute they’re coasting as the opposition are passive, the next it’s panic stations. That can’t happen and we need to be more confident to play through the opposition. I have to say that Schmeical did not help. His distribution today was the worst I’ve seen. Even the straight forward pass to CCV or Trusty was often just a touch behind them. That’s not like him.
Two final things. Trusty was excellent today given his disaster on Tuesday. He won every header. Also it was great to be back again at the game with CCB. He’s going for three in a row on Wednesday. No bad for 86.
Excellant summary
i crossed swords with 1 or 2 on the other channel because I saw the game differently…after reading your post I’ve come to the conclusion I may have been watching Kilmarnock rather than Celtic….i hate watching on tv because you don’t see the whole of the play…I definitely missed Hatates contribution through the game…watching through my fingers doesn’t help either…
we do though labour under a high press….surely…just to vary the play now and again…we should launch the ball when under pressure?…

Johnno,

You’re right, I thought Trusty was the better of the two centre half’s today, he deserved a mention.
Greg was good, no question of playing reserved lest injury strike. There wasn’t a bad player, we were just bad in the final third, and I’ll take that over not getting into the final third.
If I were Young Boys I’d be xrapping my pants, we score two thirds or half of those chances on another day, 6-0.
And Wednesday is another day 😉
Hail Hail and loving your contributions by the way.

Plenty of swash not enough buckle.

Great to be in it to win it, after a fresh family type night atmosphere in Parkhead, Kilmarnock parked up in the same old way and we set about them in the same old way. Free from the tedium of winning like ‘robots’ 4-0 in the  league, this Scottish Cup tie had an identity of its own, as old friends rolled up Celtic way.

BR reverted to his preferred eleven starters who came up short in a first half of missed opportunity and the single counter attacking close call equaliser after  captain Calmac’s sweet strike. Possession whatever its level of intensity becomes a worthless statistic, no prolific chance takers in Celtic’s style of play which dictates you have to score, and keep scoring.

Celtic regular scorers struggle through the law of averages to get to their goals which are spread through the squad, midfielders have had as much chance of being top scorer, as strikers. Not a bad thing, but with no prolific player, wastefulness can add up. Daizen Maeda always a preferred starter, might miss but revels in his own constitution that he won’t, and it’s made him a same net and staunchion finding hero of the Parkhead faithful.

No player to ‘put a foot on the ball’ and slow down ‘intensity’ has been the case for the last four or five managers, not seasons. The style, remains to pass, and it becomes like two touch, only Nicolas Kuhn keeps the ball, where he comes off the wing to be our biggest threat. Small wonder he is wrapped in cotton wool instead of trying to play the Brendan way, which at the moment seems like every other day, where even the cost of the Paradise Windfall tots up to a small fortune.

Did we ask Ange Postecoglu to ‘change it’, or was his, we never stop style duely lapped up, nobody ever wrote to the Celtic View to chastise Jock Stein for being too beautiful at his football, odd that BR who has also been successful elsewhere should come under the microscope. I blame the internet, which feeds a board verse manager division that might not even exist, other than in the fertile minds that don’t like one Celt and would prefer another.

MOM Calum MacGregor

Special mention for the Jungleside linesman that couldn’t keep his flag down, long enough to make Daizen a victim of the offside rule, maybe he just couldn’t contain himself.

Morning all,

I also thought we played well yesterday and although we missed a stack of chances, we did create them, which is a good sign.

For Jobo, This could be the trickiest one yet as our better players missed the best chances.

Trusty did well as did Kuhn but my 3 controversial selections are ;

Kyogo
Hatate
Calmac.

It’ll certainly be an interesting read when the results are published tonight.

Hope you all have a Beautiful Sunday 💚💚💚

I have to say that the players around him helped Trusty enormously regain his confidence on the ball yesterday. Can honestly say having seen him play every game so far I cant believe that he has had more touches than yesterday. This shows real team building attitude where others help a guy who is under pressure to perform.
Well done to all.

31003,
Thanks for the reply. We all see the game differently but I have to say yesterday has thrown up some really opposing opinions. That’s good though because it helps debate. Good luck with the golf swing. I went back to play woman’s recreational football at 53. It was people in their twenties and thirties mostly and the standard wasn’t great but I just loved playing football. Unfortunately what you think your body can do and what it can actually do as you get older never ceases to disappoint. I had to Chuck it as I was constantly getting wee injuries. It was really frustrating.

I am much more optimistic about the game on Wednesday than I was this time yesterday. I’m desperately searching for my natural optimism and exuberance. Like you,I was pleased with the quality and quantity of chances created, and while Kilmarnock are hardly CL standard,it is worth remembering that YB have lost 22 goals in 6 games.

But then that evil wee doubting bastert on my other shoulder says they won’t lose many if we can’t hit the bloody target! Killie’s sub keeper had only one save to make in the first half-and he could have blown it back at Hatate-and four in the entire match. That has to be a concern.

Just Sayin’
January 19, 2025 11:49 am

We could just as easily be on the end of a doing as being in a position to dole one out.

We are a predictable soft touch, lacking on field leadership, combativeness and quality throughout the spine of the team/squad that carries too many passengers. Even limited managers like McInnes can have his charges well enough organised to take advantage of our shortcomings. Our failure.
This has been obvious for months.

Kilmarnock played their way into the game after the very early upset of injury to their keeper. It clearly impacted their early performance.

Sure, we should have scored 3/4 before they equalised but we couldn’t. Our failure.

I’m more concerned about being on the receiving end of a beating ( which in Scottish terms constitutes a single goal defeat) than hopeful of the mythical “doing” some team is going to receive.

What a quality opponent like AV can inflict could be crushing.

At least on Wednesday we wont have to deal with a mib who is totally biased. Yesterdays display by Walsh must rate as one of the most blatant cheating within the rules exhibitions I have seen all season. It really is time for Nivholson to climb out from under whatever rock he is below and complain about this guy.
An absolute disgrace every game in which he refs ourselves.
He broke up more attacks yesterday than Killie defenders. The sad part is we now have a new breed coming through to back him up.

Afternoon all

Hope all well.

Bit of a mixed bag yesterday I suppose. 41000 crowd created a better atmosphere than a lot of the games I have been at of late and it was probably a far better game than a league game between the same sides would have been

Some of the play was pretty good too although Engels impressed me less than of late, Reo Hatate , although producing some grand moments, is a frustrating player and Kuhn took an awful long time to raise his game.

As everybody else has said our finishing was mostly terrible- though looking up at the monitors in the concourse at half time I wondered if Kyogo’s 1-on-1 miss would have stood as he might have strayed offside. Aside from that terrible 2nd half on Tuesday we have mostly played well post-Ibrox but we just aren’t killing games off and that is worrying. I hope Kasper S’ errant passing was a one off – but he was a bit Joe Hart or Craig Gordon yesterday.

Young Boys are an unknown quantity to me at least. Their record in the CL this year is terrible and 9th in the Swiss League suggests they are not too hot but since Neuchatel 33 years ago Swiss teams have given us real problems- other than the Bernese side itself in 93 I think we have always been beaten by them* With nothing to play for except ‘pride’ (and consolation points money) the Swiss might well be more relaxed than we will be. However, whilst, I am not an overly optimistic person I’ll admit there’s a voice in my head telling me that actually this mob is rubbish. I and we shall see.

Random Thoughts:

I was impressed with two of the Killie players yesterday. They were Mayo and Murray.

I have seen Mayo several times, mainly at RB rather than CB, and I thought he was consistently good. I am surprised he is still at Killie. At times he could match Maeda’s speed.

The second player, Fraser Murray, is worth highlighting even for his name alone! How wonderful must it be to have a son called Fraser Murray😀 In my case it is impossible for a variety of reasons, both nominal and contraceptive wise!

More pointedly, Fraser displayed great dribbling skills and crossing ability, from the left wing. His performance caused some worries to AJ who was forced to be more cautious going forward. I was surprised to see he is deemed a left midfielder rather than a wide player. Perhaps he is being misused by Killie. Anyone else got a view on these guys?

I am not suggesting that we sign them.

On incoming transfers, I doubt there will be any news until after the YB game.

Don’t tend to take much notice of other teams players, with putting far more focus upon our own.

However as it is currently a transfer window, that also involves planning for the future.

The 8 homegrown quota requirements still seems to be causing concern within a 25man squad.
Next season already, we should have in place hopefully,
Calmac, Tierney, Ralston, McCowan, Forrest, Murray or Welsh, not unless a change in formation, allows for both Welsh and Murray?
And that’s without maybe Anderson as a possible backup LB option.
And whether Johnny Kenny can impress enough to get a third sticker role.
And of course there is always the possibility of lennon Miller also.
And this without knowing where Bain and Monty fit into the plans, as only filling up numbers requirements this season.

So overall apart from the prospect of Liam Miller, I don’t see where we might be interested outside of what we currently could have in place imo?
