Score Early, Score Often
Morning,all.
After all the midweek excitement as we battled Bayern, it is back to the nitty-gritty of the league campaign today. That almost makes it sound like a distraction, but nothing could be further from the truth-winning the title is our No 1 Priority this season, as it has been in every season since Adam were a lad.
The reasons for this are obvious. Winning the title assures us of our best crack at The Champions League, which next season will see us enduring “only” one qualifying round. Win it, and we are once again in with the big boys, in with the big bucks which supplies the income for investment in players. It also gives us another four home games to the backdrop of the rousing Zadok The Priest, a harmless little ditty which drives our hun friends mental when they hear it as our ringtone!
But that is for another day. Today is all about the visit of Dundee United. When we last played them at the beginning of January, they were on a bit of a roll. Since then, they have one win in five. Our last game against them was fairly comfortable, the gulf in class showing that day as we ran out very straightforward winners.
However, only two weeks before that they held us to a 0-0 draw. None of us who watched that will want to see a repeat-indeed, none of us could bear to watch a repeat. It was a bloody awful match, the kind that makes you want to take up knitting instead. For that reason, they aren’t to be taken lightly.
BR doesn’t tend to take any opposition lightly, and even with the second leg of our CL tie against Bayern on Tuesday, I expect to see a full-strength side named. Our full-strength, of course, still offers some variation. Will Maeda play through the middle, or will that role be entrusted to Idah? Will Maeda start at all, given that Jota still needs game time? Or Yang for Kühn? Will Scales start at centre-back, and if so, which of the two incumbents will be rested? Is it Taylor or Sclupp at left back? Will McCowan get the nod at the start, allowing the boss to rest Engels or Hatate? What about Ralston?
Although that looks as though we have a capable and adaptable squad, and there’s no doubt that every other manager in the country would give their eye teeth for such selection dramas, there is little doubt that we are significantly short in midfield. We went into the season with five players, and while we had up till now been very fortunate with injuries, our luck had to end some time. And it has, with Bernardo being ruled out for around six weeks. So, down to four then. And that is something which should definitely concern us.
I’ve been rooting around our B team and youths for possible replacements, and I’m afraid there doesn’t appear to be one who looks remotely capable of stepping up. We will just have to hope that future injuries in that department are avoided, for we have no other option. This obviously needs to be addressed in the summer, and I’d expect us to be looking at one or other of the midfield regulars for other Scottish clubs.
While that probably brings us back to the hardy perennial of Lennon Miller, there are other options available. Including a former colleague of McCowan at Dundee. It would be harsh on Tony Docherty for us to take another of his players, especially given that a third has agreed to join up next season at Ibrox, but that’s the harsh reality of football nowadays. Hand out short-term contracts and they can come back to bite you in the rear end! Either way, whether we concentrate on finding a suitable signing in Scotland or elsewhere, we cannot go into next season so short in such a vital area of the pitch.
But back to today. In form opponents or not, we should be looking at three points from this one. That’s not to say it is a gimme, for I fully expect it to be a hard-fought ninety minutes. I’m looking forward to watching it, that’s for sure. Two things I want today then-three points and no further injuries. It’s hard to say which is more important.

Down with that sort of thing! We can’t be having this type of cynicism and negativity on this fine blog!

Iniquitous IV😊
Hertz deservedly equalise from a corner.
Hearts totally dominant
1-1
Beaton doing his best for his team now.
Chelsea must be having second thoughts on Jefte
Beaton playing a blinder for his team
Hearts pen claim denied and Huns go up other end and score
Hearts denied clear penalty and Huns go up the park and score. Seen this movie before.
VAR didn’t get involved so nothing to review. Just a two handed shove in the back

😀 very amusing 👍🏻
Auldheid…re the chat from earlier. An example of VAR not getting involved when it should leads to a Huns goal from breakaway and a might-have-been penalty for Hearts dismissed. It won’t be looked at in the VAR Review but it was a potentially result-changing decision by VAR.
“Not long before that Rangers goal, there was a coming together in the visitors’ box with Clinton Nsiala getting close to Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland and Shankland claiming for a foul as he went down. Nsiala did win the ball in the air and seemingly the officials didn’t think it merited retrospective action.”
That Katanga is awful …..
Another own goal by McCart ffs
McCart on a Hatrick

Hearts diddy up front Cannae score.
Big diddy at the back Cannae miss.
If you wanted a great example of the officials changing the course of a game, you won’t find a better example than today’s game.
Absolutely BAD
Just never surprised by it. Will anyone call it out? Of course not. It’s a joke League.
BAD
That was absolutely shocking. I’m sure Kris Boyd will call out Beatons performance!

Just catching up.
Has Boyd done it yet. What did he say 😜😜
On a serious note I read the BBC pages on the game. Critchley didn’t say a thing about the refereeing.
Beaton playing the system today, knows that the penalty decision won’t be included in Callum’s review because it wasn’t referred to VAR. Would love to hear the reasoning behind ignoring a blatant 2 handed push in the back, but I know we never will. Blatant cheating for his favourite team by a self-confessed Rangers lover. Only in Scotland 😡
Liverpool’s Jota escapes a yellow card for a blatant dive for a penalty. Ref initially awarded the penalty, VAR intervened and sent the ref to the monitor, where he saw an obvious dive by Jota. Reversed the decision but chickened out of giving a yellow card. If you need to know why players dive, the referee’s lack of backbone was there for all to see.
Great goal for Wolves.

Yes which should raise the question why? However an excuse might be VAR did not think it a clear and obvious error and will not overrule the referee for the reasons I gave.
It will be interesting to see if WC covers the incident in the WC review and says VAR was wrong not to call referees attention to the incident or says why VAR was right in deciding no foul had been committed.
It puts the VAR Review process itself on trial which is a reason to include in the Review.
Auldheid…I think you’ve missed the point of the VAR Review! It covers only incidents addressed by VAR. This means that the incident will not be reviewed ny Collum on the monthly VAR Review! And that’s the point I was making earlier today – incidents such as the potential penalty for Hearts are left untouched never to be discussed again, a classic ref’s decision is final despite having technology to revisit it immediately!
Compare and contrast the decision not to look at the penalty with the numerous shitey fouls Cheatin’ Beaton gave R2ngers, look at the incidents with Walsh at Parkheid yesterday where advantages to Celtic were denied as he preferred to pull back play.
I will admit there is a lot of subjectivity in decision making, and that is rightly so, but when you see stuff like today it’s too obvious that there are agendas at play.
Daniel Cummings agrees on pre-contract with west ham.
Beaton’s positioning probably made the push hard to see, but he had an assistant looking straight in on the incident who could clearly see the 2 handed push. In addition, VAR couldn’t possibly have missed what was a clear and obvious error by the match officials. However, by not getting involved, they made sure there will be no mention of the incident in Callum’s review, as McCaff rightly points out. Outright and outrageous cheating by all involved.
AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA craig76 thanks for posting that vid 👍👍❤ so the infamous rainjurs won again with the backing of the establishment ,nothing changes,,another true story👍

Funny enough the push was similar to the second foul on Engels yesterday which ATOB mentioned earlier.
The only difference was that Engels was tripped at the same time and that was immediately after another trip which Engels recovered from.
At least refs are being consistent as neither were given as a foul.
Hearts in this present guise will always be fodder for their big brother.
The normal tenacity and physical play is absent against the Huns as they are aware Scottish officials will not tolerate.
The normally tenacious Beningamme was like a timid kitten today.
Contrast todays performance to the ref aided snarling nasty mini’s in maroon the Celtic team face.
When football skill and a fair game plan is needed to win Hearts fall far short.
Shout out to Ex Celt McCart for keeping Baldermont in a job for another week at least.
Re the Celtic Graves: I recall the Saltcoats CSC bus in the 40sand 50s used to visit John Thomson’s grave whenever Celtic were playing near there but for life of me can’t recall Chic Geaton’s one, which is surprising as he was a member of BP’s favourite team which was also my Dad’s hence so many youngsters of the forties being able to recite it.
Great to see it though, thanks.
The Phlegm is quite obviously going nowhere. He has an Europa League to win and will remain in situ until such time as season ticket renewals indicate otherwise.

The useless centre forward let Hearts down, as did the prolific centre back. Otherwise it was game on.
Shankland apart they appear less cowed v the Huns. He is obviously a spent force and waste of a jersey v them.
The young lads Prentice n Wilson put him to shame.
Ludge influence runs deep.
It’s steadily lessening and as the Mother Lode weakens, their importance does too.

Good to have you back.
COSY CORNER BHOY, Kennaway, Hogg, Morrison, Geatons, Lyon, Paterson, Delaney, McDonald, Crum, Divers and Murphy,. that was my dads favorite team ,hope you are well buddy.H.H 👍👍❤❤
Sevco, Glasgow City, Cektic and Hibs all locked at 51 points at the top of the SWPL. Sevco leading because of a runaway goal difference, 107 for and 16 against.
If Spurs score stands, Man U remain 15th and Spurs go 12th. Oddly, Nottingham Forest lie 3rd, 17 points better off than Spurs, yet have scored 8 goals fewer.
For anyone still to vote, this is your 2½ hour warning and your opinions really do count – there’s currently a tie at the top. Go on, make a difference! SENCELPOTY@GMAIL.COM
Piteymevin and others.
I said I would post about supporter involvement and a prime barrier to it.
I’ll start with belief that Govt will not get involved in football matters.
As I pointed out the UK Govt is already involved and Holyrood have set up round table meetings with key stakeholders. Thus the belief of non Govt involvement is not accurate and the threat of British clubs being barred from Europe by an organisation whose leaders have been revealed as corrupt (including FIFA) is seen as a threat designed to prevent external oversight because it would prevent or reduce corruption. People in glass houses.
What brought UK Govt intervention was the Tracy Crouch report the the English equivalent of the SFSA took part in.
The connection about supporter action or inaction is that the English Support contributed to the TC report because they did not accept nothing would change and pursued change.
As result of my involvement on Res12 and after efforts to get Celtic supporters organisation engaged on SFA reform, I realised that the push need to come from a wider support, a valid point made by Rebus67 after I had reached the same conclusion and started work on it.
So I looked for a supporter organisation who could claim to represent a wider base.
So because I believe change can happen , even if gradually, I contacted and met Paul Goodwin who was the face of SFSA, who has to appear nuetral to appeal to every club supporter, to discuss increasing the SFSA membership by being more widely known and so I undertook to use social media as a means to raise awareness and push the idea SFSA had of getting Govt involvement but was something I would not have done had I thought nothing will change.
In the fullness of time the TC report came out and the question put to Govt Ministers was if the UK govt could get involved why not Holrood? I pushed for that although at an open door.
The SFSA decided to follow the route of their English Support equivalent and produced a report of their own setting out the views of Scottish football supporters.
That resulted in a Meeting at Holyrood created by MSPs with a love of the game.
The outcome of that meeting, after a telling point made by an MSP with a very English accent to the.Minister of no need to wait until Westminister produced legislation before the SG engaged with all parties, because not all issues related to the form of Oversight but to seek agreement on areas of issues more relevant to Scottish football worth pursuing.
The Minister accepted this point on the basis of which a series of Round Table Meetings with key stakeholders including supporters would be created.
Illness, just not mine, but of a key SFSA member has prevented follow up on what has happened since.
My point though is had I as an individual Celtic support held the belief the Govt will never get involved then I would not have met the SFSA guy and did what I did to help bring about Govt involvement.
A ticket boycott would send a powerful message about areas of dissatisfaction to Celtic but since that is unlikely to happen individual s who believe change can be acheived can work towards it in their own individual way.
This is not a look at me post, more of look at ourselves. What is stopping me from doing what I can?
Some who decided to stop buying merchandise and more are already doing that , but more are needed to act as individuals to make an impact. Changing minds that nothing will change is the starting point.

Maybe the Celtic Board should invest a bit more than they do in our Ladies team?
Juve v Inter going the same as Bayer v Bayern last night. No goals, but a great game.
