Another Tough Trip
Morning,all.
Another game tonight against Taysiders, seems we play them every second week these days. This time it is a trip to Dens Park to take on Dundee who are in a decent run of form. Two wins and a draw in their last four games has certainly been an improvement on the form they had shown beforehand, and they are not to be taken lightly.
As was shown in their last game, a rather enjoyable draw against some plucky visitors from Ibrox who may just have benefitted from a dodgy refereeing decision just before they equalised. But every match is a whole new ball game, so to speak. We may have more than double their points tally, but that will count for nothing when the whistle blows. Neither our manager nor our players will be approaching this in a complacent frame of mind-at least, they had better not be!-and we will know that we are in a game.
I expect this match to differ in two very important aspects-even apart from the result-from our last visit to Tayside just before Christmas. Firstly, the game will not be played in a howling, swirling and unplayable gale. Secondly, the home side might just try to get out of their own half. Dundee United only had one plan going into that game-to keep the score to nil. For both sides! Hell knows how they are currently third in the table, that was the worst ninety minutes I’ve sat through in a long time. Dundee though at least try to play football, and their coach wouldn’t have it any other way.
They had ten players missing on Thursday night, and will be hoping to have a few of them at least available tonight. To be honest, I hope they do. Especially Lyall Cameron. He and his midfield partner Josh Mulligan have both been impressive this season any time I’ve seen them, which is usually against us or in the highlights round-ups at the weekend. That should, you would think, give manager Tony Docherty hope for the future. Sadly, Dundee seem to have adopted a policy of keeping most player contracts to a maximum of two years, and both of them are out of contract at the end of the season. Neither has shown any intention of signing a new contract either, which means the club will likely lose them for the dreaded “compensation fee” that is the curse of the lower clubs these days.
Of course, Dundee have used the system to their benefit in the past, most obviously Luke McCowan from Ayr United a few years ago. They have also benefitted from the Bosman ruling, so there is a strong element of biter bit here. But it must be bloody soul-destroying to watch your youngsters come through the ranks and walk away for peanuts, having established their credentials in the game. Let’s hope they don’t build on those tonight!
Celtic are likely to have Kühn back, though whether he will start is a moot point. I think he will probably come on with about twenty minutes or so left. Expect then a similar line-up to Saturday in Dingwall. Give that “new formation” up front another look, huh? And let’s hope too that we get to see young Johnny Kenny make another appearance in his favoured Hoops. He looked bright and eager against Ross County, and certainly had many of us wondering if we have nurtured a gem.
The most important thing about tonight of course is three points. In any league match, those three points are paramount. Formations and performances and even returning players are only filling the minor places. Get this one out of the way and look forward to a difficult Scottish Cup-tie at the weekend. And who knows, maybe even some new signings, seeing as it’s January.
Maybe someone should send Michael Nicholson a new diary to remind him.

McCowan gial
yesssssssss
Goal even
McCowan 1-0
Boom!!!
Great deep cross from GT but what a header from McCowan!!!
Made in Ecosse! 🏴
Wish Trusty would stop these brain fart moments
Kyogo coming short asking for the ball and not getting it. Aaarrrghhh!!
Dundee playing heady tennis.
Hope that’s Trusty’s only bomb scare moment tonight 😡
HH
Yang tried to beat the full back for pace on the outside early on, and was caught. I hope he doesn’t give up trying that move.
Idah should have scored that.
Kyogo great ball in, Idah misses what looked like a sitter. 😡
Forest 1 Liverpool 0.
Idah of last year would have scored that.
Two great passes from Yang and Kyogo-wasted.
Think Idah had his eye on that goalie
Hope we don’t regret these misses.
That’s a strong bench
Yang cuts inside, has great position on the 18 yard line to shoot, and doesn’t. He has scored 1 goal in 50 odd games. No end product.
Think it’s made of oak 🙃
Bernardo header onto the bar and over.
Good work from Yang there.
What a move!!
Bernardo header off bar.
Yang given licence to roam. That’s a good thing. Confuses the defence.
Bernardo off bar.
Shoulda scored. Another great cross from AJ
All Greg does is give the ball away!
We should keep feeding Yang the ball. Dundee have only one man on him, so he has lots of space. Something good will come from his cutbacks.
But then again, maybe not.🤔🤣
Weak shot from McCowan.
81% possession from us but only 3 shots.
CCV pulled to the ground at our corner.
Ref gives Dundee the foul.
Cheating, the easy way.
HH
Should have been a pen.
Robertson gives a fk to Dundee
Yang’s initial 20 minutes impressive but now cuts inside instead of going down the line.
Our spacing at corners is just abysmal. Acres of space from the middle of the goal to beyond the fat post with nary a Celtic player to be seen. Instead, we have a mass confused scrum in the middle, everybody in each others way, and giving Robertson an excuse to blow for a foul. Effin shambles.
Dundee goal from our corner ffs
1-1 Straight from our corner.
McGregor gets in the way again but not the only one to blame.
Good finish tho. 🤬
Great counter from Dundee. Terrific goal.
And of course, their main threat is from our bloody awful corners.
83% possession now, 4 shots to Dundee’s 2. Why can’t we translate that possession into shots at goal?
The disappointing thing is 4 men were surrounding the guy when he scored. A good breakaway to be fair.
INIQUITOUS IV
Dundee are, like every team, packing their defence against us and hitting on the break.
Against the huns they were wide open.
Take it as a compliment😁
We don’t half flaff about in front of goal. There were 3 or 4 good shooting opportunities there and not one taken up.
That said, are were playing well enough, have created a couple of good chances and can’t believe VAR never got involved in CCV penalty incident. A stonewaller.
Shocking from Mcgregor at Dundee goal
Oh ,and the ref is a fkn cheat
All too easy after the early opener. Celtic happy to probe to little effect, while Dundee were always trying but getting nowhere. Then THAT lightning break, and boom-game on!
get Idah off and khun on🙏
I’d bring Kuhn on for Yang
San Luis,
The fk against us at our corners is the easy get out for refs.
it’s not the 1st time Robertson’s done that this season.
It won’t be mentioned anywhere 🤬
