Treble dreams

It’s funny how things workout sometimes, in life and in football. I’ll throw some examples out there.

Many of us would have wanted Sinisalo for the Cups,,Brendan didn’t agree and I understand opting for continuity but now the Cup change has been forced upon him.

Goals,,many of us feared a drop off after losing our number one striker but as it turns out but we’ve just scored 9 in two games, and with lower league opposition today there’s a proper chance of a another high scoring game,,,as soon as we get shot of Kyogo our goals per game average increases?

Greg being tempted by Zagreb,,who woulda thunk it? It’s not as if they were sitting around thinking we could really do with a Scottish left back, and the player himself will be exposed by a lack of height, technique, and pace in a nation that produces quality players, a highly scouted nation that produces so many players I’m wondering why recruit from outside? Still, I’m reminded of telling my dad I was moving to New Zealand and he replied there’s nothing out there, how wrong he was as I had the best year of my life showing one man’s spurred opportunity is another’s heaven. I hope he does go to be honest,,it’s a beautiful place and he will learn, and I personally like the idea of Schlupp and KT taking over the position. As Schlupp will be on a free, we’ve managed a try before you buy, if you wish. But his high wages will be an issue, we won’t have both left backs on top whack, or will we because he’s free? I’m hoping he puts the club into that position, starting properly from today.
Throw in Scales, Ralston, and Murray that’s a completely new back five! I’m not expecting that though, Trusty and Scales would get the nod, Murray given the entire second half if the games wrapped up please gaffer.
We need a good look at him, everyone wants a new youth product breaking through.

In the middle it would be normal gking on sensible to leave out some Bayern starters. But I get the feeling Engels is growing better, more accustomed with every passing minute, and I’ve seen dropping Reo have an effect before, yet the game is made for Luke. Callum will want to Captain the side in every round until hopefully lifting the actual Cup. Brendan doesn’t do himself favour’s with regard to budget when his try before you buy midfield signing Bernardo can’t nail down a first team place but look like a player who needs consistent gametime to progress. Its a tough one,,if I were King I would select Reo, Engels, Bernardo.

In attack everyone assumes Maeda starts on the left given the circumstances but I’m not convinced benching Jota or Kuhn for that matter benefits the player. Keeping those two on the pitch for a half also allows Kenny to start as there’s still goals in the attack. Idah doesn’t need to play the whole game, but I reckon if given minutes he will have a serious appetite to score more than Kyogo, hit 20 or so, just to make a statement he’s the top dog.

Lower league opposition in an early enough Cup tie equals something a bit different, a tinge of mystery, and of course the chance to impress not just the Parkhead faithful but the manager. One might opine a stern test before the sternest of tests is good preparation, but I’m in the take it easy camp. As long as they don’t go out to leave their mark on players, I’m happy with what should be another high scoring home win with all five subs used. Then it’s just a case of repeating it on Wednesday.

AULDHEID, the information you have been providing is brilliant, but do we think the standard and strategy are good enough ? That’s the question!
===
it certainly is but you have pointed out that unless those who complain boycott (and it would only take one game as you suggest) we are shovelling green steam.
My view is that if knowing the game is rigged, knowing Celtic have been party to the rigging as the http://www.res12.uk Archive evidences and that the current Chairman is not to be trusted is not enough to go to the car park , nothing is.

Where is our collective sense of self respect?

Just one game with justification for boycott would do it and the likes of ACSOM could take the lead, something I put to John Paul Dykes with no response.

Perhaps others raising the same concerns with ACSOM who are broadcasting the equivalent of green steam might result in desired action unless they see more profit in the green steam.

A SC blog dedicated to the failings of Green Steam in the Celtic blogoshlere to bring about change might get a response ?

BAD…I’ve not walked through Brigton for years but did last night after the game as we were heading to the Gallowgate for a couple beers. A crowd of Ultras, it was difficult to discern who they were – Celtic, Huns or otherwise – ran out of Olympia St just a few seconds before we reached it. We heard them before we saw them. Anyhoo, they were throwing punches and kicks at anyone in their way and ended up outside the Liquor Barn fighting with 2 young Celtic fans. I thought they were Huns but there was no colours on show, i told the wee guy to cover his scarf anyway. To be fair, I was kinda worried as there was about 30 of them but they soon ran off down towards the toon. We ended up walking with 4 or 5 young Raith fans, 2 of them had cuts on their faces from being attacked. Anyway, it turns out the group were all Raith supporters and they’d just come out of Olympia St and started hitting anyone, regardless of who they were, even their own fans!
It was all a bit feckin nuts really, and I’ll no be walking that way again! I’ll just go the long road in future.

Apparently Stevie G will sign a new $40K per week to manage Sevco this week…

notwithstanding that he made over $100K per week in Saudi, he is going to have to pay tax on that money, and as a result, Slippy G simply cant afford to pay more than $40K per week to coach Sevco now!

Philip Clement’s Top Five Favourite after game quotes

“We get today the most shots on target of all season. No, not on target, most shots towards goal. Of all season, we have 12 on target but we didn’t score, not even a penalty. “

”We lost our cool in the second half to make the right decisions in the box. And we had a goalkeeper against who probably played the game of his life also. So you need to take that on the chin and it’s a hard one to take.”

”Maybe the team wanted too much in the second half to score it and because of that lost composure. It’s nothing to do with the work that the team has been doing the last couple of months.”

so, they lost because (i) it was the opposing goalkeeper’s fault for having the game of his life, (ii) it was his players’ fault for wanting to win too badly, and (iii) for sure, the loss was not his fault, and it has nothing to do with him…

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #39 CELTIC 5 RAITH ROVERS 0 (MAEDA(3), McCOWAN, YANG)*

Good evening, friends.
My own pre-match concerns that we weren’t starting with our strongest team were very quickly dispersed when Daizen Maeda decided to show us how quickly he can adapt to his centre forward role. A beautifully placed stroke into the corner of the net in 5 minutes got us off to the perfect start. A wee 10 minute spell midway through the first half was our only sloppy period and it was during this time that Raith had their solitary chance of the game, a breakaway and decent enough chip allowing Sinisallo to make his first competitive save in a Celtic jersey.
On 36 minutes Hatate came on for the injured Bernardo and hopefully it was more of a cautionary move with Paulo being fit and available for our next game.
Shades of our midweek home game against Dundee, we again got our second goal in first half stoppage time. A brilliant breakaway goal with Kuhn feeding Yang who played it back across perfectly into the path of Maeda. Game, set and match.
The second half was still in its infancy when we got our third. Yang had his second assist in 3 minutes when his pass across the 6 yard box was clipped by McCowan into the net. And on 55 minutes Yang completed his best 10 minute spell in the hoops when he volleyed a wonderful Ralston cross into the net.
More substitutes followed with the departing McGregor, Kuhn, Yang and Schlupp replaced by Engels, Jota, Kenny and Nawrocki. Fortunately, Daizen remained on the park and in 76 minutes got his hat trick, and his 50th Celtic goal, slotting home a low cross from McCowan.
The Brendan Rodgers Scottish Cup love in continues – played 19, won 19! And hopefully both those numbers eventually change to 22. And this afternoon’s events certainly increase the possibility of that! I mean, even EKFC took Queens Park to extra time in the Challenge Cup semi final, coming back from 0-2!!

The full results are below but there’s something worth highlighting. In midweek, Daizen Maeda became the 9th player to receive 100% of the votes since I restarted this wee venture in season 2022-23. He now becomes the first player ‘ever’ to have received 100% approval in consecutive games! He has also been voted Man Of the Match 3 games in a row.

We have now played 39 games this season, winning 29, drawing 7 and losing 3. We have scored 110 and conceded 33 (domestically it’s 97-19 and in Europe it’s 13-14).
Thank you so much to the 68 who voted this time around. The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

Sinisalo: 0
Ralston: 1
Murray*: 19
Scales: 2
Schlupp: 7
McGregor: 8
McCowan*: 48
Bernardo: 0
Kuhn: 4
Maeda*: 68
Yang: 45
Hatate: 1
Engels: 1
Jota: 0
Kenny: 0
Nawrocki: 0

And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Raith Rovers are –
Maeda – 5 points
McCowan – 4 points
Yang – 3 points
Murray – 2 points
McGregor – 1 point

And the overall positions after 39 games played are –
59 points – Maeda
58 points – Kuhn
48 points – Hatate
47 points – Engels
45 points – Schmeichel
44 points – McGregor
41 points – Bernardo, Scales
31 points – Trusty
27 points – McCowan
24 points – Kyogo
23 points – Carter-Vickers, Johnston A
21 points – Taylor
19 points – Valle
14 points – Idah
7 points – O’Riley, Yang
6 points – Jota
4 points – Forrest
3 points – Welsh
2 points – Murray
0 points – Cummings, Holm, Johnston M., Kenny, Nawrocki, Palma, Ralston, Turley

*Goalscorers table*
21 – Maeda
17 – Kuhn
12 – Idah, Kyogo
9 – Engels
7 – Hatate, McGregor
6 – McCowan
4 – Johnston A
3 – Bernardo, Scales
2 – Yang
1 – Carter-Vickers, Jota, Ralston, Taylor, Trusty
2 Own Goals
Total Goals – 110

We now have the home leg of our Champions League play off round as Celtic aim to win through to the last 16. It’s an 8.00pm kick off on Wednesday evening against Bayern Munich. Do us proud, bhoys!
